"Mature couple with family.Stayed here in june and for 4 days of the 7 there was only us round pool. This hotel is used by coach holidays so they are out all day.Food was good but not a lot of choice.Staff helpfull except for bar staff who used to leave bar with no one serving and people waiting long time for them to appear again. There is no entertainment at all in hotel any time.Beware of rip off Taxi, will tell you one price when getting in then charge more at end.All in all would go back as its so relaxing hotel. No good if you want nightlife as this is a 10euro taxi ride each way."

"We're from Denmark and stayed in Hacienda for two weeks in December. We have never been at a more delightful wonderful place. You should go if you enjoy beautiful mountains and a peaceful nature around you. Its kind of a must to bring a car, unless you dont plan to go anywhere. The dogs are the cutest and you will have lots of fun with them, if you want. The houses contain everything you need + some. The outdoor spa... is the spa! The owners are highly flexibel, very helpful and cosy people. "

This hotel is about 10 minutes bus ride ...
"This hotel is about 10 minutes bus ride from Mijas Village in the Andalusia Mountains, about 20minutes taxi ride from Malaga Airport. It may be one of the nicest hotels I have ever been to, the decoration is beautiful and of very high standard, it is very very clean and the staff there are very friendly. Staying there with two young children, we through that on first impressions that we had maybe picked a hotel that would not be child friendly but we were wrong the children were allowed just as much freedom as the adults and they were very well catered for. Baby changing facilities were on each floor of the hotel, highchairs etc and the staff went out of their way to help with any request s we had. The pools were cleaned morning and night and the surrounding area was kept spotless, we had use of free comfortable sunbeds and shades. The food was buffet style with a variety of cold and hot meals, at times the meal choices on an evening were very Spanish in the way they were dressed with oils and sauces but still enjoyable. The village of Mijas is beautiful and well worth a visit (or two), it is much more relaxed than the larger resorts we visited and there are lovely places to eat and nice little gift shops. Tickled Pink - English ran shop is well worth a visit (just look for the large Betty Boop outside); it sells handmade jewellery and gifts. Overall we have a lovely holiday and people young or old would really enjoy both the resort and hotel."

"This was the second time I have stayed at Club Puerto del Sol and I will definitely go back the next time I visit the Costa del Sol. I originally stayed at this hotel in 2005 with a mixture of both friends and family. We came across the hotel by accident whilst browsing the web for a holiday and because of the very reasonable rates we booked-up with no great expectations. I think this is where some of the criticism for this hotel comes from - people pay more attention to the 4-star rating than they do the price. The lobby is clean, welcoming and nicely laid out, with piped music creating a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. Since my 2005 stay the hotel has undergone some renovations (which I believe are scheduled to be complete in the post-Christmas period in 2006) and though progress is unavoidably slow, the changes are very pleasing indeed. The new rooms have a laminate floor layout with a modern 'natural' theme running through the bedroom and bathroom. Rooms are equipped with TV, air conditioning and a walk-in shower with a glass blocks divide. The bathroom also has a convenient pull out mirror and hairdryer and is very spacious. The hotel itself has many facilities including both an indoor and outdoor pool, a gym (which is to be refurbished shortly), a sauna, tennis courts, bar/restaurant, outside terrace and sunbathing area, TV room and more. The outside area is in the process of acquiring a tiered sunbathing area which overlooks a fantastic view of Fuengirola. People who may be put off by the fairly remote location should not worry, there is a private hotel bus service which takes you into the neighboring areas (less than 10 minutes away) and there is a fantastic bus service that is literally outside the hotel grounds taking guests to either Mijas or Fuengirola for around 1 euro. During our last stay, we were waiting at the bus stop when the hotel manager drove past and after recognizing us from the hotel actually drove us down to Fuengirola himself. We were completely stunned by this extremely kind gesture and during the trip down were equally taken aback by how friendly and passionate he was about the hotel and its refurbishments. I can appreciate that in some people's eyes the hotel may not but 4-star, but the customer service most definitely is (if not more)! Breakfast is provided with-in the price and there is enough variety to ensure that everyone is catered for. I have to say that since the previous year the food has improved somewhat and an extra 10 euros enables you to receive full board which is definitely worth the money. Myself and my partner will be returning to the Costa del Sol in the very near future and although we have tried alternative hotels we will definitely be coming back here."

"We were there last year and we loved it, it was so very quiet and peaceful, just what we wanted, the road to the apartment is quite scary at times but after a few journeys it was easier to handle, the owners are extremely pleasant and had a wealth of knowledge about the area and what was available. The apartment was comfy and well provided for our needs, we could have stayed there forever !!"

"The owners are very helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is good and well equipped. The pool and gardens are lovely and well looked after. There is also a Jacuzzi at a very small charge per use. Security is very good. The location is very nice up in the mountains and not too far from things. There are 2 routes to the apartment the quicker of the two is a bit hairy so if you don't like scary roads its best to take the slightly longer route. I found the quick route fun but it's not to everyoneâs taste! "

Good getting better!
"We booked this hotel with the knowledge from trip advisor. What a great spanish hotel, not full of ignorant brits, but genuine holiday makers and business people willing to make an effort to mix with the culture. The hotel has just been taken over by an experienced hotelier, who doesn`t mind going back to the floor. The hotel isn`t quite 4 star at the moment but a refurb is planned within the next 8 weeks and I am confident that it will be a 4* plus. Great for real spain lovers."

Nice Hotel - Just right to use as a base
"We have just returned from holidaying in Mijas and used this hotel as a bed for the night. we stayed on a bed & breakfast basis. when we arrived we were very tired and requested quiet rooms. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful and gave us two lovely quiet rooms overlooking Mijas. The hotel itself is very basic and as one of the previous reviews says there are no tea/coffee making facilities. You would definately need a car. We couldnt get a meal in the resturant because it closed at 9.30pm which is quite early, but there are plenty of places elsewhere to eat. The breakfast was excellent and gave a choice of everything from continental to full english and was delicious. We would certainly recommend staying on a B & B basis. In fact we were staying in a villa up the road and was quite tempted to pop down to the hotel for breakfast everyday! Drinks were quite expensive but that was to be expected in a hotel but they werent stingy with their shorts! All in all we got exactly what we wanted with this hotel and would definately stay again."

"We just retuned rom a 3 night stay at puerta del sol and have to say it wasn't as bad as we'd expected (after reading previous reviews). We would have to say that it is definately not a 4* hotel, we would class it more a 2-3* hotel. Reception staff were polite, though at times it was hard to get their attention. The room was ok, though the shower and bathroom definately requires some attention. We stayed on a b+b basis and the food was so so, the breakfast selection never varied all the time we were there. The pool area is lovely and wasn't really used much by others whilst we were there. Unfortunately we didn't have a car so used public transport which was ok, but would recomend to anyone planning to stay here that they hire a car as there is nothing within walking distance."

Not a 4* in any way
"We booked into this Hotel for 4 nights and left within 4 hours. Drab is the only neutral word I can use to explain this place, not 4* by any means. Lots of flies and sparrows when eating on the terrace, no tea making facilities within the room, decorator and carpet fitter required for major refirbushment. I could go on and on but know that anybody with a young child staying here will feel the same. Maybe I expected too much but I wanted more than just a view air-conditioning would have helped as it was +30."

Simply not the best!!
"We stayed at this hotel at one of the busiest time of the year i.e. first week in August. We fully expected entertainment both for ourselves and our 3 year old child. There was absolutely no entertainment for the children and our entertainment occurred only twice during the week - and that wasn't the best. The food was very bland and uninteresting. The bathrooms were a death trap - especially for my partner - who is a reasonably big chap. He could not get in and out of the bath with ease because it was so small and the shower danced around the bath when you turned it on! All in all we would not go back to this hotel and wonder where the 4* rating comes from. The rooms weren't particularly clean either."
