disappointed with the hotel sultan club
"Sadly we were disappointed with this hotel. We went here after looking around the place last yearwith high expectation and excitement.Marbella is a wonderful place and this hotel is ideally situated very close to beach and walking distance to the town centre. However we were met by a very miserable receptionist and given no info about the many facilities the hotel offers. We were given our key and then really had to fend for ourselves. It was rumoured that hotel staff in the area were to strike soon due to poor pay,so this may be the reason. The hotel provides parking underneath, before going i was told it was 7 euros a day. However after 4 days i found out it was 10 euros with tax on top so this was rapidly cancelled. On going to our room(2 bedroom catering for 6)we found it was very spacious with upstairs bedroom and en suite there were 2 balconies and lounge with kitchen providing dishwasher, cooker etc.So initially we were pleased. However we soon found many faults-broken bed, broken ironing board, broken iron, faulty washing machine that flooded the apartment, only two sunbeds on balcony,no cushions, faulty toilet, leaking showers-so were disappointed.Complaining to the reception fell on deaf ears but when i said i was writing a review on the hotel things were finally put right on the third day.The bigest problem was no hot water for the first 6 days.We were fobbed off with the faulty hotel boiler excuse and was assured it was being fixed. After a week the boiler in the room was finally fixed, probably due to my constant complaining.Overall i was very disappointed with this 4 star hotel. It only really deserves 3 star award at the most.In general this was the quietest i have ever found marbella at this time of the year and even shops were closed down and empty.I have been going here many years and this year was by far the most expensive.I think cheaper destinations will now become more popular and spain is pricing itself out of the market which is sad as it offers so much. Will definitely not use hotel sultan club again. My 17 days here were very stressful and disappointing"

Lovely holiday - excellent accomodation
"Myself, husband and two children (16 & 6 yrs)stayed at this hotel last August for two weeks, after booking I read previous reviews and thought I had made a big mistake - but too late we were going. Upon arrival first impressions were great it was ideally located and the room was fabulous, a lovely corner room with lots of space and very clean, we took a walk to the beach just 5 mins away, to find some excellent restaurants and bars plus some small funfair things for the younger child, the beach was great and not crowded. The rooms were cleaned every day without fail and kept tidy and fresh, plus the air conditioning worked which is a bonus, we had sun all day at some point on our balcony but spent most of our time down at the pool which again has really bad reports but we found it excellent, shade if you needed it and sun if you didn't. It would help if the staff did speak a little more English but we got by without any problems and they were more than happy to help. I would certainly go back for another holiday"

Wouldn't rush back
"Wouldn't rush back to the Sultan Club. Hotel staff unfriendly and unhelpful. No information about the hotel in your room/in reception, we had to guess how to get to the indoor pool and jacuzzi! Rooms average - would expect more from a **** hotel. One plus point for the hotel - it was in a great location for the beach, restaurants and bars"

Comfortable stay ay the Sultan Club
"My family ( 2 children, aged 4 and 2 )and my husband stayed here in October 2005 for one week. The hotel is comfortable, spacious and airy, however Iam used to 5 star accommodation and i felt the decor was somewhat tired. the kitchen facilities were adequate, electric hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge ( only used the hob and fridge) there was no kettle in the room. Room service was satisfactory although the menu is limited and the reception staff are pleasant and very helpful. The location is superb, just a short walk 5 mins to a local supermarket, the marina and beach are less than 10 - 15 min walk and you are spoilt for choice for restaurants and places to eat A 10 minute taxi ride to Orange square ( marbella old town) is a must, with great restaurants and cafes"

"Had a fabulous holiday here in July 2005. Wonderful place.Apartment was spacious and clean. Lovely restaurants all within walking distance. 5 minutes from the sea. The promenades were all spotless.About a 15 minute walk to Marbella old town which is fantastic. It is also an ideal base for visiting other places e.g Granada, Seville etc. We have already booked to return in 2006!"

Well Positioned, Clean & Spacious.
"Myself, Husband, Mother and young daughter (3) stayed in the Sultan Club for 2 weeks in September 05 and we used this Hotel as our base while on holiday. Wonderful position, close to the beach within walking distance to all amenities, supermarket 5 minutes away. And the Old Town which I thought was amazing was only about a 20 minute walk. Also Puerto Banus was a 10 minute taxi drive which cost approximately â¬8.00 or you could take the boat trip which was a similar price. I also have to say that the cleanliness of the apartments was very good and the cleaning staff where extremely nice. The apartments were very spacious and the view from the large balcony was beautiful, Straight down on the swimming pool, then the sea and then the harbour at Puerto Banus. We had some doubts about the swimming pool aftering reading some of the reviews previous but we thought that the swimming pool was fine and our little girl was fine with the help of arm bands. We had only one slight problem with the apartments and that was that we felt they needed updating, we had a problem with the Washing Machine that leaked when we attempted to use it but the staff were extremely quick dealing with the problem. The kitchen facilities were very basic, cutlery, delph etc. and there was no electric kettle supplied. Definitely will be going back, had a fantastic time overall."

"This hotel/self catering apartment is about 200 metres from the beach on a tree lined avenue, and next to a dried up river, which can be used as another short cut to the beach. The staff in this hotel are very helpful, although the barman at the pool should learn to speak a little english. The room are very good, cleaned daily and well furnished but again, no British news, all American and therefore middle east news takes priority. The kitchen is well furnished, with a washing machine, fridge and dishwasher. If you are self catering there are two supermarkets nearby, one underground and the other on the main street, but make sure you get stocked up with fresh milk as the Spaniards seem to prefer long life milk. I have stayed in some very highly rated hotels, such as the Gatwick Hilton and the Royal in Reading, both very highly rated hotels, the Sultan Club is on par with these hotels. If you have a car or are hiring one it would make sense to use the underground car park 8 euro a night, as the standard of parking and the number of damaged cars in the area, 95%, would pay dividends when handing your hired car back as driving standards in this country are abysmal! I will certainly be back at this hotel Dave"

Beware the lack of sun!
"We have just spent a week at the Sultan Club & the appartment was fine, but a few basic extra would have made a big difference ie Knives that are sharp enough to cut, something to wash up with, a dish cloth etc. The dishwasher was just a rinser & didn't wash anything clean at all. Our appartment had NO sun morning or evening & we were unable to change room due to balcony restrictions with UK travellers. We were very disappointed at not having any sun, particularly in the afternoon. Otherwise it was a smart block fairly handy & not in the thick of it with regards to tourists."

Great Hotel but needs a few minor updates.
"My family and I have stayed in the Sultan Club twice over 2week periods in the past 2 years. We have found it to be excellent ie location, cleaniness, facilities, in-house food and staff. The areas that need improvement I would like to see are: Pool area very confined, better TV channel choice for english speaking guests and more nightly entertainment in the hotel for guests young and old. My wife and I and friends dined in the Restraunt in the hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the staff and food was first class. Well done Sultan Club."
