"I booked with Last Minute.Com. I went with a friend for a girlie weekend. we read the reviews and went with an open mind. I have been going to the Costa Del Sol for over 15 years and have stayed everywhere along the coast from 5* hotels to apartments from Peurto Banus to Riviera. This time we went so bothered we wanted to get away for a few days without husbands and children! we found it to be well placed for Marbella 1 euro 22 on the bus! and 16 euros in a taxi. Elviria 2 min walk with the bars that it has to offer. Don Carlos and Nikki Beach directly accross the road if you want that type of thing. The pool was beautiful and clean and well maintained as was the grounds and the whole hotel was clean and well looked after.
The hotel was a little dated, however, it was very clean and well maintained and the breakfast was good! the staff were friendly and the facilities were good. The hotel bar was not fantastic but we didnt go to sit in the hotel! Whoever said the pool was sheltered by trees must have been staying at a different hotel! great for a few days, i probably wouldnt want to stay for a longer holiday though.
Great and i would deffinately stay again for a short break!"

"Me and my boyfriend (age 20) booked to stay in this hotel on Tuesday 2nd October - Tuesday 9th October 07. When we arrived at the airport we got our bus to our hotel and it dropped us off at the front doors. First impression wasnt good. Was on the middle of a carriage way with what looked liked hardly anything near it to walk to. There was a big hole in the ground beside the doors to the hotel it looked like there used to be a swimming pool there but was took out and was over grown with weeds! It looked nothen like the pictures that i had seen on the internet when i booked it! The bus driver basically dumped us at the doors... which were closed.... we knocked the door and finally someone opened it! The hotel was closed and we were told we were not booked in because they were closed for the winter but yet we were not told that when we booked are holiday and did not even recieve warning before we left for spain and there is still holidays on offer to stay at this hotel and the place isnt even open at all!!!!! The people at reception were no help at all we thought we were goin to be stranded in spain for a week with no where to stay and they hardly spoke a word of english which didnt help either!!! We were given the name of another hotel to go and were basically chucked out and told to wait outside... in the rain... for a taxi that was supposed to be on its way! 45 mins later and still no taxi i went back up and knocked on the door and asked what was goin on!!! He didnt understand me and after a few phone calls the bus that dropped us off came back. They just talked and argued among themselves reading over all are accomadation vouchers to stay at the hotel and finally told us to get in the bus we were goin somewhere else! We didnt have to pay any extra which was good but it ruined the first day of are holiday! We ended up booking into in Hotel Cortijo Blanco but stayed in the hotel Pueblo Andaluz beside it and were able to use all the facilities from both hotels. All in all we ended up havin a brillant holiday but we shouldn't of had to go through all that trouble to begin with we should of been told when we booked it that it was closed! During are stay we met a family who was also booked to stay in Las Chapas Palacio Del Sol and they got a phone call the Friday before they were due to leave for Spain to say that the hotel was closed and they got booked into stay at the hotels that we ended up in... we didnt even get a phone call or any warning about the hotel being closed! There was a notice on the front door of the hotel... i couldn't read it though because it was in spanish but i think it was something to do with it being closed because it had a date on it! My advise to anyone who is planning to stay in this hotel anytime between now and the end of the winter... don't because its closed and travel companys are still advertising holidays to this hotel!!!! For me and my boyfriends first holiday away on are own it was a terrible start and scary because we were by ourselves and didn't know what to do!!! Unfortunally we have no pictures as we never thought at the time but now we realise they would of come in useful. Even though we ended up having a brillant holiday it was not a good start and will not be back to Las Chapas again even when it is open!!!!"

Ok for a few days in the sun...
"Stayed at Las Chapas with a friend (both of us girls, aged 26) for 4 nights. We booked last minute and just wanted a bit of sun and a cheap break away.
It was fine for 4/5 days, but I wouldn't recommend it for longer than that. We didnt have very high expectations before we arrived and when we got there we thought the hotel was actually really nice - nice grounds, the room was clean and average size, the pool was ok with plenty of sunbeds (although the most uncomfortable sunbeds ever!!) although it was quite shady with all the trees.
The food was ok - what I had expected for a 3* all inclusive - it was fine for 4 nights, but dont think I could have coped with the food for any longer than that! A few people told us that they'd had bags and phones stolen from the dining room.
The location is not the best - there is not really anywhere to walk to from the hotel - apparently there are a couple of bars nearby but they weren't open when we were there. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away and really nice. The hotel is on the main road, opposite the Don Carlos hotel where Nikki Beach is.
We got a taxi into Puerto Banus for a couple of nights out, which cost 25 euros each way. The extent of the hotel entertainment was Bingo which they played EVERY night for about 2 hours!!!
There wasn't a bar open all the time which isnt great when you've paid for all inclusive. The pool bar opened about 11.30 (or whenever they fancied opening!). The all inclusive drinks are supposed to be until 11pm - one night it was really busy with only one bar man, we queued up from 10.45 for 15 mins when we got to the front we were told that we had to pay as it was 11pm!! Not good!!
The main problem with the hotel is the staff.... all of them were soooo miserable!!!
All in all, we made the most of the holiday - we were happy spending 4 days on the beach, made the most of the food and all inclusive drinks before going out in P. Banus.
But, if this had been my only 2 week holiday for the year, I would have been disappointed!!"

It was okay
"my first impressions of the hotel was that it was very old fashioned and that was just from the decor. As soon as you leave reception theres a sign up that says
Las chapas palico del sol won second place in the whole of marbella for the gardens, in 1974. Which is probley when the hotel was at its peak.
Our room was round at the more modern side of the hotel, it was very odd as it appeared to have a reception even though it was just rooms, looked like another hotel.
The rooms were fine, the beds were comfortable, and changed on a daily basis, and the room was supplied with towels also on a daily basis.
The pool was lovely its a heart shaped and is a nice temperature, there is life guard there who constantly is taking leaves etc out of the pool and telling people of ford diving. I must say if your a girl the lifeguard is very easy on the eye. There is sunbeds however you may have to do a bit of lifting to move the sun loungers into the sunshine. However if you are around at the pool the sun is there constantly, one problem however the speakers for the music are right beside the sunbeds, so you do get a bit of a head ache.
There is a pool bar, which is nice it cheaply priced.
The food in the hotel I must say is awful!! in my opinion as im a very picky eater, and its is almost like a school canteen with spanish children running around with soup and spilling it, its very busy and the poor waitors are rushed of their feet. If you like fish it is served every night and so is pasta, it is edible.
There is a nice restaurants around the other side and they do a lovel english breakfast for about 3 euros, very friendy as well. There is also a super market which is also very cheap.
There is bused to marbella every 15minutes its a very quick service, and the other way there is a buss to fuengerola, which is about 1.60euro.
The beach down the road is lovely and they give you actual beds to lie on if you walk up the sand enough, for about 4 euros each, turn left to get the beds. There is many life guards at the beach so its safe. Also there is also trips from the hotel which are very cheap about 11 euros to gibralter.
Overall I enjoyed my holiday, it was relaxing however most of my money was spent on food, so dont go all inclusive at this hotel"

DO NOT GO!
"When we arrived at the hotel we went to our room (which had not been properly cleaned i.e. bottle top under bed, hairs in bathroom!), our balcony looked out onto the motorway and the toilet made a very strange noise when flushed. When chatting to others we realised that we must not be in the modernized rooms (i.e refuse a room at the front of the hotel). The hotel food was vile on the first night the food consisted of chewy meat and potatoes swimming in oil. On our five day trip we only ate there twice, as on both occassions we felt slightly sickly after. The restaurants nearby to the hotel are lovely (but if you are paying for half board then ideally the food would be up to standard). As two young girls (20's) we wanted to got out in Peurto Banus but it cost us 25 euros each way (making it a very expensive night even before we had had a drink). The hotel appears to be on the outskirts of Marbella as to Marbella bus station it cost 13 euro.
My advice would be to avoid this hotel, and if you have booked it cancel and book another one. Normally I am not very fussy about accomodation but felt I had to warn others not to go here."

Not what we expected...
"We booked our trip rather late, and given the weather in the UK, just wanted to go somewhere hot and sunny. Our expectations of this hotel were not high, but we were pleasantly surprised! OK, if you want Blackpool-in-the-Med this hotel is not for you, but if you want a quiet, relaxing holiday then give it a try. Our 7 year old daughter had a great time, making friends with Danish, German, Spanish and British kids and that meant that we had a good holiday too. The food is not great I must admit, but the local restaurants are very affordable and the local supermarkets are very convenient. Yes it is by a motorway - but the pine trees screen the hotel from the noise such that you hardly notice it at all. This is a very Spanish hotel - the vast majority of the guests were Spanish which I think speaks volumes - so if you don't like the fact that they don't speak much English then learn a little bit of the language before you go."

honeymoon from hell
"OH MY GOD what a poor excuse for a hotel, dont really no where to begin. Do not belive any thing that the information on the holiday web sites tell you about this place, it is a load of rubbish. for a start they tell you its marbella, yes about 20mins up the road on the bus. They don't tell you that the place is at the side of what i can only describe as a slip road off the motorway, and that every time you leave your putting yourself at risk , i am not lying this is worst place i have every stayed in. they don't tell you that the hotel is the equvalant of our butlins/pontins full of english, there was about 8 of us in the hotel that were english, one couple had been the only ones for 3 days, the games/bingo/entertainment was in spanish,i know not every one speaks english but i expected the staff to be able to, we got shouted at in the dinner room for trying to pour a cupper, not knowing you could'nt get a drink with your meal,if you wanted a drink you had to fetch 1 from the pool bar as this was the only place you could get a drink from. the food was slop i would'nt have even been happy feeding it to my dog, and im not useally fussy. we went alinclusive and never had a bite to eat, i did'nt fancy getting food poisoning. the rooms were as bad damp and musty smelling beds mould on the walls, our toilet would'nt even flush,oh and theres no sky tv the only english thing is bbc world i could go on forever about this place like the beach is a good walk away not 900m this hotel has also been on hotels from hell the tv program. all i can say is do not book this hotel if you want to go to the same place as the hotel find a villa to rent there are pleanty about in this neck of the woods, and the beach is 1 of the best i've seen the area is quite up and coming with little bars and resturants about , but if you looink for some where livley with water parks and things to do in easy reach try some where nearer torrimillous . thish hotel should be left to rot"

Not a single problem
"Booked to stay a night at this hotel while on a driving holiday in Spain before reading any reviews. I feared the worst, but encountered not a single problem, although I was too timid after reading the remarks here to sample the food.
Our sixth floor room was spotless with comfortable beds and the bathroom was also clean. Didn't have much contact with the staff but the receptionists were very polite and spoke good English. Although next to the motorway our room (with a spacious balcony) was totally quiet and had a view over the pine trees to Marbella. The bar was closed when we arrived back late in the evening, but you can buy drink at the supermarket around the corner, the nearby restaurants appear to stay open until late too. It is a bit of a walk to the beach (we drove) but is a good sandy beach with lots of facilities.
Yes, there were a number of elderly guests (so what?), but there was also a touring Russian ballet company staying there, so the 'beautiful people' quotient was exceptionally high."

Las chapas i would give no stars
"We went there about 3 years ago and it was dirty and disgusting. The Perspex aroud our balcony was never cleaned the whole week we were there. Food if you could call it that was disgusting and we ended up eating out every day at Liquid Fluid around the corner. The breakfast was horrendous and cornflakes smelt must even. Holes in all the tablecloths it made us feel sick. We got free bus every day to get away absolutely horrendous. did complain but got nowhere. do NOT GO."

not as bad as i thought after reading the reviews
"Not really being one for taking much notice of reviews as we have been happy in many hotels before which people have described as being bad which we have enjoyed. me and my girlfriend booked 2 weeks b and b including flights and baggage for £519 so we didn't expect the earth. the room was basic but clean. the cleaners came in ever day, cleaned and left clean towels etc. the breakfast was okay but there was always toast and cereal if the cooked option want to our satisfaction as in other countries they do have different ways of cooking to us. the pool was clean and the staff were friendly,a lot of the clientele are elderly Spanish which were quite rude at times, but we were out most of the time so we weren't too bothered,we would have no reservations in returning in the future."
