Do not book this hotel !!!!!!!
"i have just returned from a 3 night stay at the guadalpina banus, we normally stay at sister hotel in marbella and have never had a bad stay there but unfortunatly the hotel has closed down. so we thought we would give the Gran hotel guadalapina banus a try what a mistake.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the hotel is surposidly a 5 star hotel but being kind i would say its more like a 3 star. the hotel is in administration and is running on skeleton staff. the deluxe roof terrace suite that we booked was very disappointing for the price we paid. the hot tub was very dirty and full of sand from the previous guests and every seating area outside was stained and had black mould all over the covers. the sunloungers on the terrace were broken and could not be used or replaced. Room service order for drinks on the evening took over an hour to arrive and took several calls, and when it did arrive it was the wrong order. no kettle in room asked for 3 days but still did not get one. cd player did not work, we had an early departure at 7.30am and could not get any breakfast as it did not start till 8.00am we could not even get a coffee delivered to the room and had to come down to reception to have a coffee from a station. alarm call was 30 mins late. i asked to speak to a manager for 3 days but was told he was unavailable as he was in meetings. the only thing this hotel has going for it is the location to the port, and the few staff that are still there after not getting paid for over a month deserve a medal. this hotel needs serious money spending on it, to bring it back to life or just close altogether. if we were staying more than 3 days we would of checked out and moved somewhere else but just decided to get through it and not book again. we were told the hotel was full but we didnt see anymore than 10 people in the hotel over the 3 days."

Very nice Hotel
"This hotel is very nice and is finished to a high standard. The rooms are lovely although ours was a little small but the large terrace made up for it. The pool area is very nice and everywhere was clean and tidy. There are about 5 restaurants but they are all very expensive so we didn't eat at the hotel (eg 7 euros for a fresh orange juice!) The pool bar was reasonable and also did food which was good. Only problem with the hotel is that it is a bit difficult to find by car and it is not possible to walk into Puerto Banus unless you walk along the beach. I did read this in othere reviews but thought there would be a pathway - there is only a path some of the way and the majority is walking on sand so no good if you want to go out for dinner in heels! Taxi about 8euros to Banus so not bad. The walk is pleasant and takes about 15mins. Once in Banus there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Overall I would definatley reccomend this hotel but would suggest a car so you can get a round more easily - plenty of parking in the road -no need to pay for hotel parking."

Excellent Short Break
"We stayed here over the new year holiday and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A good 5 star hotel, friendly staff and excellent amenaties. The choice on the breakfast buffet was one of the best we have ever seen. It's is a bit isolated from the main resort, still only a 10-15 minute walk though. The hotel also provides a bus to it's sister hotel which has the spa. Would probably return again"

Nice hotel if you...
"I agree with all the comments that hotel is beautiful, rooms have great views and private terraces, it was recently built, it's right on the beach,...only if: - you don't buy a standard room, because you will never see the sea, as the room will face the next building or the wall of it; - you don't stay close to elevator to hear all the movements through the door not soundproof; - you don't want to take a nap at noon, because the room cleaning lasts until 4-5pm; - you don't decide to go on the beach after 11am, because all beds are reserved already; - you don't interact with staff insisting to explain you the rules of the hotel...(like Marbella bus will leave you on the street if you are not at the gate at sharp... believe me it was a lady trying that) - you are not late in the city so you need a cab; Without any if: the restaurants were perfect and the band very very pleasant. Not a 5star hotel in all details;"

Great hotel despite initial problems
"My girlfriend and I stayed there in the first week of August, booking it back in January. I encountered some problems when I confirmed the booking with the hotel, room type and board, but after some emails with the very helpful reservation staff this was sorted out before our arrival. The hotel was lovely and the private terraces are large, with the piped music makes it very relaxing. We had a superior room and found it just right for our needs. We used the gym alot and although small had up to date machinery and weights. We found the breakfast buffet amazing, so much choice. We had dinner in one of the restaurants and although is expensive we found it to be about the same rate as what you get in the town for the same type restaurant. Puerto Banus is only 10 mins walk away but if you're in your going out gear and heels, the girlfriend not me, then it's easier to get a cab. It's a fixed rate at 7.30 and the reception staff can order this for you. Waiting time is only minutes. We would definatlely stay here again."

"We decided to book this hotel for our honeymoon, however on reading the reviews we decided to cancel our room. After thinking it over we decided to take the chance and go, luckily enough we managed to get the room back and we were so happy that we did! It was a junior delux suit with two balconies, one with a jacuzzi and an amazing view! The service in the hotel was excellent, anything we asked for we got it right away, down at the pool the bar staff came round with fruit kebabs and ice cold face towels when it got too hot. The walk into the port is not that long and it's along the beach so it's quite nice, but if you wanted to take a taxi the reception staff organised it for you. We didn't eat in the restraunts as, to be honest, they were a bit over priced and not a big selection. We had a fabulous 10 days here and would definately go back!"

Ideal upscale hotel for Puerto Banus
"Stayed there with my two young kids during the last week of July 2006. A really nice and enjoyable stay. We had a Banus Suite with amazing views, it was very modern, well kept and high tech. The floor to ceiling windows directly overlooking the beach are really something. I have visited Puerto Banus on several occasions before, and as this hotel is new, tried it this year. Found it an excellent choice and would definitely look forward to stay there on future vacations. There are several restaurants on the property and a reasonably sized pool overlooking the beach. We only had breakfast at the hotel, and it was a generous well diversified open buffet. As previously reviews stated it is a 15 minutes walk to the Marina and center of Puerto Banus, but it makes a difference to have a car. This allows you to move around, to Puerto Banus, Marbella or other places at your leisure. I really cannot support the complaints in previous reviews about the service.... every one was helpful and professional. Maybe it was bad luck for some."

lovely but it is very noisy
"I have just returned from staying at this hotel and how i wish i had found this site before i went. The hotel is very noisy and not sound proofed and i did not get a wink of sleep the entire time i was there. for £200 a night you expect somewhere you can get a good nights sleep. the rooms themselves are wonderfully clean, tidy, and small. BUT, they are not that much better than a holiday inn or travellodge. the beds are small and fairly hard, there is not much room to move around the bed, the wardrobe is miniscule. the best bit about these rooms is the bathroom, which is fantastic, and the private balcony. unless you do like lying beside the pool all day, you really do need a car, i would have gone insane without one. there are bars just a short walk from the hotel but they are nothing spectacular, in fact they just looked grotty. a half an hour drive away is crocodile world ( hold a baby croc), a huge aqua park, a dolphin show park, a safari park, the beautiful town of ronda and of course malls and supermarkets, where you can buy delicious local produce, cheap beer and other booze, sweeties, clothing, shoes, perfume, make up, toys and loads of other stuff. of course, you could always spend your every waking moment at the hotel, wasting all your money in the fantastic but pricy resaurants or in the rip off bar by the pool(8 euros for a drink, bargain)"

Fabulous Hotel - "THE" place to stay in Puerto Banus
"Having read the only review of this fabulous hotel I felt the need to comment. I've stayed at both this hotel and the sister hotel the Gran Hotel Guadalphin Marbella many times and they are sublime. They are elegant without being ostentatious and the Gran Hotel Banus in particular is the epitome of beachside chic. Go for the penthouse suites with private jacuzzi on the roof terrace, go for the fabulous food and drinks, go for amazing pool from where you can look down on the people on the beach, who - yes are paying for the sun loungers but it's not a private beach - but if you are concerned (!) about the price of the drinks in the mini-bar, the price of breakfast and the locality of the nearest supermarket - then don't go! As for needing a car to explore - well I can only assume this is to explore supermarkets futher afield as the hotel is a slow 10 minute walk away from the port and an excellent place to relax, chill, have fun and get some sun. It is a fabulous 5 star hotel - the decor is amazing, the marble bathrooms stunning and the linens and beds are heavenly. The staff are curteous, discreet and accomodating. The guests were mixed in nationality and age - but it is essentially a cool hangout for 30 somethings and if you fall into this category try this hotel - I would be surprised if you don't go back."

"We stayed there in Aug 05. Hotel is beautiful! Rooms have great views and private terraces. It was recently built so everything is new and clean. Its right on the beach and you dont have to pay for it, unlike most other beaches. Puerto Banus is only 5-10 min away by cab. Food was not the best, but we enjoyed going to different restaurants in Puerto Banus. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel."

Excellent hotel but dont expect propt service
"In my opinion some of the previous comments about this hotel are a little harsh. The hotel has many positive points. 1. Good location - the hotel is located on the beachfront and is only a short walk away from Puerto Banus. 2. The rooms are very spacious, clean and most have good views 3. The food is of a very high standard I do however agree with some of the previous comments about the hotel's lack of service. The general level of service did not correlate with the hotels five star rating. Some days the service was 7 star but some days it was like a 3 star hotel. In summary I would recommend the hotel as a good choice because the positive aspects far outweight the negatives. Just dont expect to be treated like royalty."
