Great Mate

"Excellent little hotel, near to all the sites as well as the sea. Clean, comfy and quiet. Had a good rate from the internet and was pleased to have breakfast included. The receptionist was really helpful. Complimentary apples were most welcome after a long flight and no breakfast but did wonder whether this was a subtle nod to the area's working girls. Have no complaints whatsoever and would def. stay again. Even managed to park outside as parking restrictions lifted for the holiday. Tip - great veggie restaurant (Canadu) in Plaza de la Merced. V busy and popular with the locals."

Our stay at Room Mate Lola

"We stayed at the hotel for 2 nites, on the 22nd and 31st of December. We loved the hotel and its retro style. The rooms were comfortable, modern and clean (except for the first room we were initally assigned on the 31st). We enjoyed the complimentary green apples in the room. Breakfast was good. We also liked the location since it was walking distance to the places we wanted to see. The indoor parking was more than satisfactory. The room we were initially assigned on the 31st had an unpleasant odour caused by probably a plumbing problem. Strangely, the odour was not in the bathroom. Anyway, the lady at the reception was excellent. She had the room changed for us quickly. I don't know her name but she was very friendly, helpful and efficient. For us, it was a small hiccup that was quickly sorted out. For those that are looking for a hotel with a spanish feel to it, than this hotel is not for you for that reason only. We travel extensively in Europe and the essentials that we look for in a hotel are comfort, cleanliness and location because for the most part of the day, we are out and about sightseeing. We would recommend this hotel anytime because we liked it very much. If we were to go back to Spain, we hope to stay at a Room mate hotel again. TMH"

Room Mate hotels - great stays!

"I just recently stayed at the Room Mate Lola hotel in Malaga, as well as the Room Mate Hotel Migueletes in Granada. The stay at both properties was really great - the staff is excellent and has great recommendations for dining. They're very friendly and definitely go out of their way to assist (ie wine from room service when room service was closed!) Breakfast is basic but is more than enough to get through the morning. Egg and potato tortilla, whole fruit, variety of breads and pastries, meats and cheeses, etc... Room Mate Lola is located just steps from the "downtown" and very easy to walk to everything you would want to see. The Room Mate Migueletes couldn't have a better location - once you're there! Driving in is a bit of a pain (but the whole downtown is), but you're right at the foot of the Alhambra and the Albaycin area. Great stay, would definitely recommend!"

"I am just back from Hotel Lola and I am only sorry that 5 is the highest score I can give. In all my travels this year this the best hotel I have stayed in.We arrived at 11am knew we were early but no problem the lovely and very friendly receptionist told us our room was ready we had booked a standard room but their was none available so we were upgraded to a Penthouse at no extra charge! It was absolutely fabulous the room was large and airy plenty of wardrobe space comfy white leather armchairs big dressing table and flat screen tv mini bar with complimentary pringles and water and a safe. The bed was huge had to send text message to husband to see if he was awake!!!!! it was comfortable with big squishy pillows only for the fact the weather was gorgeous and so was the city I dont think I would have left it.Now to the bathroom it was as big as bedroom powerful shower large vanity area undercounter storage drawers, toilet, bidet and loads of toiletries and towels that were replaced each day The whole area bath/bedroom was spotless. The colour scheme of lime green and white was lovely. It was extremely quiet every night we never heard a sound from other rooms even though it was very busy.Breakfast was included it ran from 7.30 till 12 The dining area was fantastic swivel chairs and comfy white leather sofas, any amount of food cereals brown&white bread rolls croissants, ham cheese ,quiche yoghurts several spreads loads of fresh fruit and juices selection of teas and coffeeand cake and pastries to die for including the delecious doughnuts i scoffed while there. All of the staff from reception to cleaning were friendly and very helpful especially young man on duty at night who got us coffee when we arrived back late.Their were two areas with large comfy sofas to relax after a day exploring. This hotel deserves an award for sheer style and its conscientiousness towards its guest. Its also very central safe and quiet at night. To sum up my husband would not be very interested where he stayed as long as it had a bed! but on leaving he said he wished he could pack the room into his suitcase and take it home high praise indeed I will definitely be back and will recommend to all my friends"

Not such a good mate hotel

"After staying at the Mate Migueletes in Granada this hotel was rather a disappointment. The staff were friendly enough - but obviously couldn't really be bothered and when you asked for info/advice were directed elsewhere! The rooms were funky and comfortable but awfully noisy on the weekend. Sound just seemed to reverberate around the hotel and slamming doors kept us awake just about all night on the Friday. I am sure the hotel can do something about the lively door springs! Think we'll try the Mate Larios if we're in town again."

Hotel Lola was Okay

"The Hotel Room Mate Lola we stayed at in Malaga, Spain had a central location and we really liked the atmosphere. However, we did have a few issues: 1) We requested a wine bottle opener and they were unable to provide one to us. 2) The water temperature in the shower was eratic. It went from extremely hot to very cold without touching the handle; it could not be regulated. Seemed dangerous to me. 3) We had ants in the bathroom on the floor, around the base of the toilet."

Stylish Hotel in Central Malaga

"The Room Mate Lola is a very stylish hotel in the centre of Malaga. The rooms are a good size, with everything you would expect (TV, minibar, hairdryer, etc) and the bathroom was huge. The breakfast was buffet style with good variety and plenty of it. The staff were friendly and spoke very good english (which is great when you don't speak much Spanish!). The hotel also offers a free left luggage service which meant we didn't have to carry our bags around all day before heading to the airport. The only issue I had with the hotel was the room was quite hot and the air conditioning had been switched off that week for the winter season so the only way to cool down the room was to open the window. Being in a central location, this meant it was quite noisy at night so I didn't get the good night's sleep I wanted. If the air conditioning had been working I would have given this hotel an 'excellent' rating."

The Good and the Bad but not Ugly

"The Lola is very "chic" with a modern minilamist interior design. I would not however say that it is comfortable. Hard - no very hard - bed, impossible to sit comfortably on furniture in the public areas and air conditioning turned off and heating turned on when the daytime temperature was in the mid 70's F. Staff very good, breakfast Ok and available all morning but no means of getting a cup of coffee etc after noon. Well situated for all of the "attractions" of Old Town and public transport. Would we stay again - probably not - but don't let that put you off if you just want an overnight stay - we stayed for a week - too long - OK for a couple of nights."

"We spent two nights in Room Mate Lola. As it was my boyfriends birthday we decided to go for the suite :-) - the interiour was amazing - pure, minimalistic design - very stylish! The hotel is very new and it's the perfect location to investigate Malaga's hotspots, have some yummy tapas, go shopping or just have a cortado in one of the bars downtown - you get there in only 5min walk! The staff of the hotel was very friendly - the concierge recommended us some really nice restaurant & bars. As a nice gimmick you'll find the wheather forecast for the next day on your bed and a well-assorted mini bar! Breakfast is good & enough for Spain. The only thing we were missing in our suite was a well-working hifi system - there was only one music channel but it was not our taste (elevator background music :-)) and did not work well (volume was too low ... ) But we left with a very positive impression and for sure we will come back there again at one of our next stays in Malaga!"

"We stayed at the room mate lola on the first day of our tour through Andalucia and on the very last day. We were actually looking forward to be back to lola throughout the whole trip! It's 4 stars and it deserves it: stylish, clean, great staff, really quiet, etc. However - don't expect the corporate type of a 4 star US hotel: it has all the amenities you need and like - no matter if you are on business or vacation - but you also can feel the passion of the people who created it and operate it: unique and stylish roms 'art deco' style; flat screen tv with tons of channels; free, restaurant quality breakfast buffet; free internet (not usual in other 4 star hotels). Another thing that may have been specific to our room: it was totally quiet - that does not only mean no street noise, etc. but it also means: the designers were smart enough to choose a totally quiet AC system (I hate those under the window AC units or noisy central air systems that keep you up at night). On the bottom line lola shows how special a hotel can be if the owner really loves the hospitality business."
