Cool and Convenient
"Originally only chose the hotel because we got a good deal on Expedia and were looking for a convenient spot to stay after taking the train from Seville for our flight home to Malaga. We were expecting that, as usual, that the rooms would bear little resemblance to reality, but we were wrong. The hotel has a genuine design edge with efficient but friendly staff and funky touches like the slide down from the first floor help to stop it being pompous or `cold' - what fun to watch businessman sliding down after a little evening entertainment. There were a lot of businessmen though. Room was a very good size with comfortable modern furnishings and my husband I did not want to get out of that bed ever....! Probably wouldn't have done were it not for the enticements of the multi-jet shower. The clear glass bathroom doors were a bit off-putting, even for a couple of old-marrieds like us. It took us a while to work out all the light features which are probably a bit more complicated than they need to be and the mini-bar could be a bit more interesting, but these are small things. Reception service is swift, efficient and friendly and the whole place is absolutely spotless. Its a good 10-15 minute walk into the centre, so don't stay here if that sort of thing bothers you, but we found it an easy enough walk (despite it being pretty hot). If you are just staying to catch a train/flight out, its the most convenient location in town and still feels like a touch of luxury so well worth choosing for that alone."

Loved using the slide
"What a way to spend a 50th Birthday. The hotel was new, very modern and just fantastic. The hotel was in the new shopping centre and train station and not a sound was heard. during the 3 nights we stayed. The rooms were big and spacious and bright. Breakfast was just out of this world and the staff were exceptional. I really loved going down the slide from the 1st to the ground floor. I would recommend the hotel to anyone and it is even better this time of year with the great deals that are on offer."

"I booked through barcelo.com and received a reservation voucher by email but when I got to the hotel they had no reservation in their system for me. The receptionist was not happy about this and huffed and puffed like it was my fault, she found me a room so it was a drama over nothing which gave me a bad first impression of the hotel. Having said that most other aspects of the hotel were very good and I was won over. Everywhere is modern, clean and well designed. There is a nice internet area on the first floor where you can plug in your laptop for free and download your emails. The breakfast restuarant is also on the first floor whihc served a very respectable breakfast (cereals, juices, breads, cakes, fresh fruit, yougurts and cooked to order eggs, bacon, sausages etc.). There is a really cool slide from the first floor to the ground floor reception/lounge/bar area. It was used quite a lot as there was a couple of conferences on when I stayed and the delegates had great fun using it (don't go down head-first as you will get reprimanded by the hotel security guard!). the reception desk has three service points whihc seemed just about OK although I did have a short wait at check-out. The B lounge is the ground floor bar - all red and pink with swirly seats (not very comfortable) and a nice atmosphere. There is no 'bar' as such. The waiting staff take your order and then disappear through a door and then re-appear with your drinks. I liked the bedroom. Quite spacious, clean and well designed with wide window with electric blind, minibar, flat-screen TV (not great picture quality/reception), massive comfortable bed, minibar, bathroom with toiletries and 'rain' shower-head over the bath. No Tea/coffee makiing facilities. View is not that great as work on the hotel forecourt is not yet complete and there is abig apartment block being built close to the hotel (rooms are very well insulated so no noise). location is great for the RENFE train station, in fact the hotel is at the station with a direct door to the hotel from the station concourse. It takes about 10 minutes to walk into the very centre of Malaga. This would be a great hotel if the reception staff were just a bit more welcoming and friendly. Despite this I would return, I liked it."

"Stayed for one night. We booked a double. At check-in we were given a twin (in case you're wondering, yes we're a couple of different sex). We walked down and asked for a double. They apologised and gave us another room. Get back again, and it's another twin. Down again, queue again for another 15mins. "Sorry we have no more doubles available". When I pointed out I booked a double not a twin they said they "NEVER GUARANTEE A DOUBLE - CAN ONLY TRY AND ACCOMMODATE IT". I am sorry but for an hotel that brands itself as modern luxury that is not good enough. I asked whether he could find a room that met the booking he said no. Obviously they had upgrades but were not willing to give them even if they could not meet the required booking. Given this seems to be Barcelo policy I will never go back nor stay at another Barcelo. If the above does not bother you check also the location - as the hotel is in a shopping centre in the train station well-away from anything interesting in Malaga. If you're catching a train it's convenient though."

Top notch hotel
"Only stayed one night but i would recommend this hotel to anybody. Right on the railway station easy access to the airport and the beaches if you want to explore Torremolinos, Benalmadena etc. Good location for shopping, giant Mall just 5 mins walk. Benalmadena 1.80 Euro, Airport 1.14 Euro on the train so don't bother with taxis. Ultra modern spotless rooms, with huge beds, plasma TV. Very good breakfast, all the usual cold buffet but there's also a chef on duty to make you any kind of eggs. Well worth it's 4 stars and all for 90 Euros a night. Big building works taking place across the street from the main entrance but the noise never bothered me."

Funky modern hotel
"The hotel is immaculate as it has just open. Very funky and good sized rooms. Good breakfast and in a good location (not pretty, lots of building, BUT 15 mins walk and you are in the heart of Malaga at the cathedral). The walk is perfectly safe day or night. The service was poor as the reception desk is tiny (2 people) and all room service requests go through them - they can't cope with it. I had to ask for things two or three times and was told by room service one time that if reception can't get anyone at the restaurant they just forget about it! However, they are polite and the hotel is good value."

"Had an awesome stay! Although not 5*, this hotel was one of our favs... Really nice rooms with cool gizmo's such as remote control blinds, TV sound speakers in the bathroom and really great buffet breakfast. Manu, one of the guys at reception was also extremely helpful and gave us many great tips... You can catch the train from the airport to the Hotel (get off at the Renfe Malaga stop) for under 2 euros or go to beaches by train and explore the coastline from there with cheap train."

Brand new ultra modern
"Ultra modern hotel right above Renfe Station in Malaga. Take the train from Malaga Airport direct to hotel for about Euro 1.15!! Free internet, via 3 terminals on 1st floor, wireless available throughout.. Rooms have big beds, plush bathroom, flat screen television with separate sound controls in bathroom! No pulling curtains here - press the right button - this is the intelligence part, finding the right one - and down comes a thick blind. Retaurant and bar great. Unusual feature - the 270 degree twisting slide from 1st floor lobby to the ground floor. All this for Euro 107 for 2 including excellent breakfast. When word gets around this place will heave so get in quick while its fame is yet to spread."

very modern fab location hotel
"we arrived late at night so we got a taxi straight from the airport to our hotel which was 20 euros onl about a 15 min drive. This hotel is so modern and very funky the decor is out of this world we loved it. The hotel room was fantastic very light airy and very modern with a brill electronic black out window blind. The staff were very polite and informative. The main train station backsonto the hotel which also accomodates a massive shopping centre! The beach is literally a 10 min walk down road and onto the promendade. The trains run like clock work and the buses are really regular. We day tripped to Torremelinous bus outwards and then train back it couldn't be easier and they cost just over a euro. The centre of town was a 15 min walk along the river which is dried up at the moment. It has another lovely outdoor shopping centre surrounding the cathredral. We had a lovely tapas there and there so happened to be a parade going on with trumpets and drums etc fantasic. We totally recommend the hotel."

Quality -Even a Slippery Dip
"We stayed for just 1 night at the Barcelo Malaga in June 2007. The hotel was less than 2 weeks old. Extremely modern design and layout and it even had slide / slippery dip to get from the 1st floor to the ground floor. Not in the best part of town but the hotel more than made up for the location."
