" This is an excellent hotel if you are planning just to stay at the hotel and go nowhere else during your holiday. It is situated at the top of a hill and it is a 25 minute downhill walk to the nearest shop and even further to the nearest bar. If you plan to eat in the hotel please note that you will be charged 25 Euro at the evening meal even if you just have some soup, the reason is that you are paying for a buffet and you can eat all you want! The hotel is very nice with good clean rooms and an excellent spa but please note that after your first use of the spa you then have to pay to use it again during your stay. The hotel has some lovely views from the rooms and is ideal for a nice break away from it all but if you plan to see some of the area then you will need a car or have to pay for a taxi."

"This hotel is vast and has a magnificent entrance and bar area. We came to stay here to travel to the Volvo Masters Golf Tournament in Valderrama as the Aparthotel was not too far from the golf course. The hotel was clean and tidy. We stayed in an apartment with kitchen facilities. Few problems with the microwave which was above your head so cooking anything in water was a bit dangerous. We also had to go to reception to get a kettle and leave a deposit (refundable) and if you wanted a toaster or any other small appliance you had to go to reception. Apart from these few small things out stay was very enjoyable and the complex was great with the spa (we received a few treatment each), swimming pools, bar, etc."

"We stayed at the Caledonia aparthotel after much searching for accommodation in mainland Spain. We were assured by the travel agent that this was a beautiful place to stay. The only positive comment about the hotel was that the rooms were nice, clean comfortable and well maintained, however our view of the drive way was not what you'd call ideal. Everything else about the holiday was terrible; we were miles away from anywhere and had to get taxis or buses into Estepona or Puerto Banus, or simply to the beach or even shop. The hotel ran one shuttle bus to the beach and back which left at 10.00am and returned at 4pm, god help anyone who wanted to venture out the hotel at another time of day. We stayed on an all inclusive basis and will never stay all inclusive again as itâs not worth the risk. The food was disgusting! One day we ordered a lasagne for our 7 year old daughter; it came out stone cold and was not even cooked. What appealed to us about the hotel was the kids club, this was rubbish, as most of the hotel guest were Spanish, the staff in the kids club didn't even attempt to talk English to our daughter this was infuriating, and understandably she never wanted to go to it. The staff in general were horrible, they made out like they could not speak English when it was obvious they could, they were obnoxious, arrogant and rude. We will never go to Estepona again, let alone the horrendous Caledonia!"

"When we eventually found the hotel, no hotel name sign on the main coast road, we were very impressed with the entrance and foyer of the hotel. The reception staff booked us into our room even though it was only 11.30am! A nice room overlooking the outdoor pool and hotel grounds. Only basic kitchen facilities for a self catering apartment. 2 ring hob with extractor fan, microwave and fridge. No kettle (we had to get one from Reception and leave a deposit of 20 Euros). No coffee machine and no toaster. The indoor pool we could only use once because Reception gave us two vouchers to use when we booked in. If you wanted to use it more than once you had to pay extra!! You also had to book the time you wanted to use it, and if you had kids, which we have, you could only use it between 12 - 3pm or 6 - 8pm. You also had to wear swim hats. We didn't have any so we had to buy them from the pool reception at a cost of 3 Euros each!"

"The hotel itself was beautiful and the food could not fault, but it was right at the top of a long road which took about 20 mins to walk down, which then only took you to the bottom of the road and then you would have to walk another 10 mins just to get to a few shops which then youâd wish you wouldnât of bothered. It also stated that there was a shuttle which took you to the beach and to Puerto Banus, well! It only went at 11 o'clock in the morning and the beach was not even the one in Estepona it was just awful. Then you had to return by 4 o'clock so it definitely shouldnât be called a shuttle service. The hotel had a so called childrenâs menu, a choice of one thing, which looked like rubber. Which then only was served at half past seven, so by then the kids were past wanting to eat. The entertainment was appalling, all it was the girls who looked after the kids club, well if you could call it a kids club. That was only a room which didnât even have air conditioning. If you hire a car then I suppose the hotel would be ok but its no where near Estepona centre itâs nearer to San Pedro."

V. poor 4 star
"My son was at a football tournament in Marbella and someone definately got a back hander for making sure all the football families stayed in this place! We were miles from anywhere - needed a car ro get to the supemarket let alone somewhere to eat. The food in the hotel was grim and expensive. The staff were few and spoke no English. We had hired a car, but had to park well outside the hotel due to lack of car parking space, and my daughter has mobility problems. When I asked if we could have a late check out, the answer was, "definitely not - we are fully booked". I think the staff would have been rude if they could have been bothered. The rooms were not equipped for self catering and yet, because we were pre-season most of the bars and restaurants were closed. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - it was awful."

up and coming
"after hours of searching for the hotel(as in a new development) we were pleasently surprised by the quality of the rooms and cleanliness of the hotel. Although it is 10 mins drive from anywhere it is located in a nice area which is being developed. There is a local supermarket at the bottom of the hill should you need it. The food and service at the hotel could be improved, and waiters english could be better as it is difficult to converse if your not spanish. Kids club was well organised and freindly staff, nightly entertainment was also provided. Rooms were spacious and cleaned daily. Swimming pool was nice size but freezing and in early months would benefit from being heated, but didn't stop the kids from playing. golf courses were in easy reach and lots of them. Spa area was nice and available daily. Overall a nice clean hotel in an up and coming area, lovely views of the mountains. Would stay there again."

very poor 4* Hotel
"The worst hotel we've stayed in. A group of us spent a week at the hotel on an all inclusive basis. The hotel is lovely - nice modern rooms, spa facilities but don't be fooled it really is in the sticks and lacking in services that it needs being so far from civilization. If you don't speak spanish they won't want to know you, expect to wait along time to be served at the bar even out of peak season. The choice of food is very limited and not of the best quality, we felt as though we were eating slops most of the time and I'm not a fussy eater, love everything though this was very poor! You really will need taxi's each day to escape from this hotel which aren't cheap. Thanks to the couple of staff that worked hard to make our stay enjoyable! They really deserve to be somewhere they are appreciated! This hotel is not a good choice for golfers or anyone of any age, expecting a good quality 4* hotel ! We will never return to this part of the costa del sol. There are so many better alternatives out there."

"the hotel is lovely, but so out of the way you really do need a car, not great hotel for self caterers,no kettle or toaster in the room. the bar is very expensive, not really walking distance to any alternative bars or resturaunts."

no kids no way!
"First holiday with a baby so looked hard for an all inclusive hotel with an apartment. This place served our needs, the space of an apartment with the services of a hotel. On the plus side we found the staff extremely helpful but yes they needed more of them. On arrival no porter to help with the bags, first time in our lives we really need one, and he was unavailable. I think he must have been unavailable for 2 wks as I saw many other struggling with their bags. Don't expect a golf course and do hire a car, but if you want spacious clean rooms and good food then the hotel will suit. Extremely child friendly (but you cant walk to the beach) extremely friendly staff, extremely bad parking, dont bring the golf clubs (some land dispute) overall fairly good."
