Good value for money
"Just returned from the hotel San Fermin- half board. Rooms were basic (you're not paying for 5 star!) but were cleaned every day. Staff were friendly and most could speak good English. We stayed half board breakfast was good, choice of egg, bacon, beans, cereal, fruit and toast. Evening meal, although ample choice and they tried to cater for all nationalities- got a bit boring after 5 days.
The hotel was on a steep hill, would be a problem for elderly or disabled, however the Albatros pub half way up was nice- so stop for a drink! The pool did not appear too clean although we didnt go in it. The hotel is quite high rise, but the lifts were good. All rooms air cond, but this didnt seem too effective.
I cannot really comment on the entertainment as didnt see much of it. The hotel is popular with Germans and Spanish and several English couples. There are some nice English bars nearby, lots of local shops seemed to be closing quite early.
We took a trip to Gibralter for the day- great day, but expect it to be long (12 hours) be careful what you bring back as their is strict limits (200 cigarettes) There is also lots of timeshare sharks about (we got conned!) so be careful.
Overall we had a good week and would have stayed a bit longer, would stay here again."

Better Than Expected
"Mike and Sylvia, 58 and 61 ( Sept27-Oct4)
just come back from a smashing weeks holiday at this hotel, bit wary after reading other reviews but needn't have been. Dinner could have been better, chips on menu every evening amongst other things. Bar prices no dearer than bars outside, excellent entertainment manager with good entertainment each evening. Rooms clean and comfy with excellent maid cleaning service. Well worth the price, thanks"

"Young couple, stayed at hotel san fermin in mid september. For the very reasonable price we paid, we expected a fault of some sort, but the rooms, location and service were all up to scratch. Opting simply for the 'bed and breakfast' package, we avoided the widely critiscised evening meals, and so can post no comments as to the state of the food. The newly constructed Marina offered a wide range of restaurants, with views overlooking the marina, and eating out at good value restaurants with extensive menues was no difficulty. The 'Raj Mahal' Indian restaurant situated at the bottom of the supposed 'cardiac' hill was a surprise, offering what we believed to be the best food of our trip. Overall, a very satisfied couple, who had expected somethng rather worse. Recommended. Best for: Beaches, cheap drinks and quality restaurants within walking distance."

"Hi,stayed at the san fermin for 10days,sept 2005, half board basis.Very clean hotel, pool area lovley, lots of chairs and tables, getting a sunbed was no problem as there was a charge of 2euro a day(which personally i think is a good idea, stops ppl reserving sunbeds at crack of dawn, and not using them till late afternoon.ENGLISH the worst!!!!)Nice large pool, quite deep tho, medium size kiddies pool.Showers round the pool, plenty of grassed area for sunbathing/relaxing.Daily games, kids play area.Meals on the whole not to bad, breakfast, bacon, eggs, cereal, choice of sweet buns.hot drinks and fruit juices(bit watery tho).Evening meal, soup, salads and hot food(limited choice)fruit, jelly, ice cream, yoghurt for puds.Drinks available to buy at the restaurant bar, reasonable prices 2.The rooms quite basic (lacking in drawer space)nice fitted mirror wardrobe with safe(2euros a day)Lovely view from balcony, overlooking pool and sea.V clean rooms, maid service daily and clean towels everyday.Reception staff v helpful and pleasant. The hotel is situated at the top of a quite steep hill(cardiac hill known to the locals, which could make this unsuitable for ppl with walking difficulties)Down the hill across the main road and down some steps brings you onto the beach(ok going down a bit of a trek back up tho,but a lovley beach with sunbeds/parasols 8euro for 2 beds and parasol, nice thick comfortable mattress.Lots of bars/restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. All in all a good hotel/area for those looking for a budget holiday,i would return to this hotel if the price was right........."

good but basic hotel.
"the san fermin is a clean hotel which is situated at the top of a steep hill. overall it is a mainstream hotel with limited facilities. it is clean and basic. the food is poor and bland, however i find this in most 3 star spanish hotels.
i stayed in september and most of the guests were spanish and french. the hill was not a problem to me, however i can see elderly people having problems.
if the san fermin does room only then it is a good base, however avoid the food as it is poor."

Nice hotel, pity about the food
"Just spent a week at The San Fermin Hotel, yes the one at the top of cardiac hill. First impressions were good, reception welcoming and efficient. Room not too big or too small with decent size balcony. We just made dinner due to our flight arriving late, wish we had missed it! Food is bland, never hot, poor selection in all three courses and very repetitive. Breakfast didn't fair any better. Maybe this reflected on the restaurant staff. They seemed over-worked and under-paid, not too many smiles here.
The bar staff seemed to enjoy their work more, usualy quite cheery. Bar prices as you would expect in a hotel, best to drink out. (We found a great pup two minutes from the hotel, Uncle Toms Cabin. Very friendly, good food and cheap). The entertainment was less than average, one act never even turned up!
The hotel in general was well run, very clean and exellent value for money, (except if you prefer to eat out). Wonder if they do a room only basis?!"

Pleasantly surprised, friendly staff
"Couldn't fault the hotel, was clean, friendly staff, a big grassy area to relax or sunbathe, great pool, nice and big and a traditional rectangular shape, almost Olympic sized.. There was entertainment every night which ended at midnight, so no sleeping before that, but we had a siesta in the late afternoon, didn't eat tea until 9 or 10, so we werenât back until midnight anyhow. The show that was quite good was the spanish dancing on Saturday. The location of this hotel is perfect, close to the really nice promenade (that has great restaurants with bbq fresh fish) (warning about these restaurants, they charge for bread and check your bill carefully, they tend to add items on and over charge) the hotel is close to the amazing marina, we first saw it at night time and it produced a wow factor for us. and also the hotel is close to the market by the train station (market is on Friday) (also a warning about people on the street handing out scratch cards that are always winners, the person handing them out gets very excited and said you have won all this money go and collect your prize, you then are taxied off and have to go through a couple of hours of hard selling you a lifetime holiday deal, do not get fooled by this, it is a waste of time.) if we were coming back to Benalmadena, we would book this hotel again... we really liked the area it is laid back and chilled... this town is really for couples and older or mature people with plenty to do.... really recommend going up the cable car to the mountain, there is a bird show up there also that was very good all for only 10 euros!"

Good value for money
"A very nice, clean hotel with a great pool and gardens to lie in with a cerveza or two! It is on a hill, but good exercise after a hectic day sunbathing on the beach & very central for bars & restaurants. Only disappointment was the breakfast; a typical buffet style but food cold & bread not particulalry fresh. Also, beware of the cardboard cornflakes - urgh! Overall, would recommend."

Great value, friendly staff
"We stayed in the San Fermin in a triple room with our teenage daughter - scary in itself! However for the price we paid £250 for the week for all three half-board we thought it was excellent value. The room was clean as was the rest of the hotel and the pool. We had aquafit and other sport if you wanted to join in which was great fun and helped meet other people in the hotel - we weren't very impressed with the cabarets though. The hill is steep but as the rest of Benalmadena is built on a hill this is hardly surprising. Quite frankly wherever you stay there you will have to walk up a hill - the San Fermin is no different!"

"I have just returned from a 5 night stay at this hotel. First of all beware the cleaners are thieves and are allowed to get away wit it. My Chamber maid stole my earings from my make up bag. When i complained to the hotel manager he just wasnt interested!
Hotel is situated up a steep hill which can be a killer in the heat, however not too bad to walk down!
The food in the hotel is very bland and typical spain half board catering. We ate their twice but then decided to go elsewhere.
If you decide to eat elsewhere then head left out of the hotel towards the square. Here you will find a range of cafes and bars and a fantastic chinese restraunt. 4 courses for 10 euros including a drink. Loveley.
I dont think i would stay at this hotel again, i feel you are a bit out of the action. I didnt find benalmadena or torramolinos very good, rather boring and run down. However thats my opinion, its very much a typical beach holiday."

Enjoyed it but.......
"We really enjoyed our stay but for a few things that need to be addressed. Pool, never had to pay for loungers or parasols at any hotel I have stayed in, you pay enough to have a holiday. Lifts, they are far too small, I could hardly breath when I got to floor 6. Food, not much choice, very repetitive. Staff, very nice, one waitress in restaurant very hipper, sent me dizzy. The hill, quite bad, I can get up them normally but not this one, there are no alternative ways to go.

ok if your spanish or french
"when we arrived it was brilliant, got a pool view as requested and the pool area was quiet and peaceful, which stayed that way until the weekend. as soon as it hit saturday and sunday it was as if every spanish child within a 50 mile radius showed up at the hotel for a pool party. it was maniac and the peace and quiet was gone. at night their parents were loud and could be heard singing all over the hotel. Food was great and catered to our needs, although staff barely spoke english and struggled to understand us. The bar had little selection of drinks, no alco-pops or english beers, so forced to drinks cocktails which costs ALOT. cardaic hill btw is as bad as its made out. basically it boils down to if your spanish your treated well and allowed to have the run of the hotel but if your not...forget about it!"
