Loved Tossa de Mar - Hotel didn't appear to love British
"Tossa de Mar is a wonderful place to holiday. Totally unspoilt with no tall buildings and a lovely old town with narrow streets and many varied tiny shops that don't sell tourist 'tat'. Lots of delightful restaurants with attentive staff. Location is very close for visiting places of interest such as Gerona and Barcelona. Lots of boat trips to visit other coastal resorts. Didn't like Lloret de Mar - another Blackpool - but if you like Blackpool pay a visit! The Grand Reymar is a very imposing hotel and sits right on the seafront on a hillside location. Rooms were very nice, clean and modern with double sinks in bathroom! Pool was in a lovely position and well maintained. Breakfast was wonderful. The main criticism of this hotel is the staff's treatment of the British - they just had a couldn't care less attitude. Whereas when dealing with the influx of Russian visitors we noticed that they couldn't help enough. We booked an early morning call for the morning we were leaving which was not made - luckily we woke up 10 minutes before our taxi was due - but what a scramble and no time to complain about call not being made! Complaints aside, we had a wonderful two week stay and loved the ambience of this resort. Another note - beach is not suitable for children as it shelves steeply into the sea."

I think that this hotel is amazing-great...
"I think that this hotel is amazing-great food, kind staff.....etc. and also it is so close to the beach. I am going again this year and I can't wait! All the rooms are clean, as well as the beautiful outdoor heated swimming pool on the terrace. I also loved the Jacuzzi! It has some tennis courts, a little park and a very relaxing spa-it has a lot of treatments and also the spas own indoor swimming pool."

Gastronomic delights with a sea view
"Hotel Gran Reymar also has some villas for rent and we hired one of those for 5 days. It was meant for 6 people and we were only 2, so we had space galore! Over two floors the villa has a fully equipped kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, oven, cooker, fridge/freezer, all utensils, even an iron -as if!- and a baby high chair), a living room, terraces with sea views both on the ground and the first floor, 3 bedrooms, 2 fully equipped bathrooms (one ensuite) and more than enough storage space. To get to the villa you have to climb some pretty steep stone stairs, so if you're not well on your feet, this could be a problem. Next to our villa was a swimming pool and as we were more or less the only users, it was pretty much a private one. We took the full board option at Gran Reymar and boy did we love that: the breakfast was huge (both cold and hot dishes) and both for lunch and dinner there were 4 course meals, served with style at the table either outside on the trrace or in one of the inside dining rooms, always with a view of the sea. The meals were very varied, using local and fresh ingredients, served beautifully and with a smile. We have eaten out a lot over the years but we were pleasantly surprised about the consistently high quality of the food here, especially since we paid less than 200⬠per night for the two of us- and that included the huge villa. We will certainly be back!"

The best hotel in Tossa!
"We chose this hotel primarily for its location and were not disappointed at all. Having read previous reviews though we had some concerns prior to our visit but used these in a positive way. One review had suggested rooms by the pool were not very private so I e-mailed the hotel in advance to request a room on a high floor and this was arranged. The room was spacious with a king size bed and was very clean. We didn't experience any noise by other guests at all. The choice of food at breakfast was very extensive but did cater primarily for the continental palate. However as English visitors seemed to represent about 5% of the guests I do not think this is unreasonable. Presumably the English food would be hot when first put out at 8am but as it likely to be the least favourite option it was usually cold though the restaurant staff were happy to reheat anything when asked. We did not find language a problem. Some staff were more fluent in English than others but after all this is not England and we should not be surprised if not everyone can be multi-lingual. Having travelled to other Costas and the Balearics we did need to make more effort ourselves to try and speak Spanish. There were clearly some quite well off people staying at this hotel and perhaps they don't need to check the bill. Our bill included use of the minibar and also two evening meals that we hadn't taken. We had booked through expedia-- whose system is to just take your credit card details to secure the booking, the final payment being made on check out. Having read the review highlighting a confusion over payment resulting in an overcharge, we were careful to take two copies of our confirmation with us. Our final bill was more than double than that agreed in our booking with expedia--. The concierge looked at our information, made his own enquiries and apologised profusely for this mistake and for the other over-charging. Tossa de Mar is a lovely resort. It is perhaps most suited to those with young families and older groups rather than teenagers though there were quite a lot of young Europeans there. It's a safe, non-threatening place to go with lots of character and lovely scenery. There's no shortage of boat trips to the south of Tossa but disappointingly little on offer northbound. There is plenty of choice in restaurants and cafes and we would particularly recommend Cafe Berlin. This was a recommendation we had been given and as Cafe Berlin is tucked away in the old town near the church we were sure we wouldn't otherwise have gone there. It is, with good reason, extremely popular and you would need to get there by 7.45 to get a table - each time we went there were people queuing outside waiting for a seat. A lovely holiday - we will be going to Tossa de Mar again and will definitely be staying at the Gran Hotel Reymar."

A very nice stay at Gran Hotel Reymar!
"We stayed at Gran Reymar during one week in the end of June. The hotel has beautiful surroundings and a perfect location with both the beach and the city center very close nearby. The rooms are clean and nice, what we expected it to be. We didn´t find the room too small, it was just what we needed. A good breakfast buffet! The hotel also has a very nice bar, we ended our evenings there every night. Sometimes we found some of the staff not very serviceminded, but most of them were really good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone since we had a very nice stay there. I can also recommend Tossa de Mar, a really pretty town on the coast. We will go back!!"

"We stayed at the BW Reymar for a couple days in August on a 2 week European trip. We stayed on BW points, although that lead to much confusion on the hotel's part. Our room was small, clean & relatively comfortable. The bed's mattress was a bit thin & soft, but we were able to sleep well enough. The bathroom was recently redone & spotless, although the glass shower-door configuration was a bit awkward & splashed alot of water onto the floor. The pool was large enough for the volume of people using it, cool & refreshing. It looked very clean & there were plenty of lounge chairs around it as well as on the elevated sundeck. The beach is a public beach down some steps off the side of the hotel. It's a lovely red-clay color and not nearly as crowded as the main public beach on the other side of the hotel. The water was warm & calm & easy steps back to the room for a midday siesta! Tossa is a lovely beach town - I suggest drinking as much white or rose sangria as possible! The fresh fish is delightful & we had an awesome pizza lunch at the Italian place just down the hill from the hotel (look for the yellow awning) which was inexpensive & delicious! The Reymar was fine, although considering their Rack Rates, I doubt I'd want to pay that for what it was. Service was fine in most respects: Israel at the concierge/valet was helpful, friendly & funny. The check-in & check-out staff left a bit to be desired. As we checked in, we had all of our confirmation information for our stay available & they took it as we were given our room assignment. When we left, they only charged us our room tax & bar charges as expected. In the beginning of November (3 months later!) our credit card was charged for 2 nights at the Reymar - rack rate. Currently our credit card company is taking care of the charge dispute. It's unfortunate that 3 months later, they have decided to give such a bad impression of their undestanding of their relationship to Best Western & it's policies."

The four stars are only for the sea view !
"The buffet breakfast had a great choice but all the food for the english (bacon, eggs, sausages and beans) was stone cold !! Curiously though they had a kind of Spanish sausage and that was hot !! Walls in room too thin. Had a car and paid 8 euros a day to park it in garage and each time had to ask for the key to get in or out. Bath was blocked and complained twice before fixed. Saturday evening buffet must have been on special offer to the locals as they were fighting to get to the food ! Some residents had to queue before being seated! The staff speak excellent Spainish but not much else! The water in the swimming pool was colder than the sea!! All in all paid a lot of money for a nice sea view and not much else."

A very good hotel
"We have just returned from a very happy 2 weeks at the Gran Reymar. Very comfortable, immaculately clean, rooms not particularly large but fine for a beach type holiday. Would recommend asking for a room on one of the higher floors, lower balconies are too close to the pool for comfort and privacy. Attractive pool, wonderful position overlooking beach. Plenty of sunbeds, good poolside drinks service. Best positioned hotel in Tossa."

Small Rooms/Thin Walls
"This hotel has a nice location, right on the beach. However, we found the rooms to be on the small side. And the walls were quite thin. You could easily hear your next door neighbors goings on. If you decide to stay here, make sure you bring ear plugs."

Great hotel and location
"Have stayed at the Gran Hotel Raymar 3 times now and each time has been a delight. We took my wife's parents for a long w/end last year and they loved it too. The location is great, right next to the beach and it's also an easy 1.5 hrs by car/bus to Barcelona on the motorway. Highly recommend."

a lovely Hotel
"In June, 1997 we stayed at the Gran in Tossa de Mar with our two teenagers and had a wonderful time. Booking on the web is always iffy, but the Gran Hotel Reymar lived up to it's name. We stayed for about 10 days and enjoyed the pool, food, and tossa! The hotel staff were helpful and accommodating. We would go back again! Also the wonderful thing about Tossa is our kids felt safe on there own."
