38 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"This was the best holiday ever! We, me and my boyfriend (18/17) only stayed for the one week but we would have loved it to have been longer. Thats how i came across this review site looking at how much it would be to go back next year, or sooner :) The food was brill, it took me a while to be brave enough to try different foods otherwise i would have been eating chips all holiday. The entertainment was good flemenco dancers, pagents, ghana acrobats (they were amazing) but there was more too be seen out of the hotel, so for the rest of the week we walked up and down the promenade, looking at all the little stores. I loved that we only had to cross the road and go up a little road to get to the beach. The rooms were plenty big enough for me and my boyfriend. Our room was opposite another hotel which had quite a lot of our age people accomodating the rooms. All they did was play music loud but that was ok for us becuase we just listened to the music as it is what we listen to. Everyday the rooms were cleaned and becuase we seen the same cleaners every morning the hotel have different people on the different levels of the hotel. I really enjoyed this hotel and would love to go back again. :)"

No way will go back here
"Just returned from this hotel and the best we can say is that the station to Barcelona is nearby and only costs 7.70 euro return, easy to escape for the day.... Where do I begin? - party of 4 - Two of us in early 50's and our son and friend both 16 years old - ALL complaining to Reception about the noise - kids running riot around corridoors till early hours and screaming all over the place day and night! Hotel was swarming with teens from Norway doing a handball competition, and then joined by Spanish kids on football tournament (and chasing said Norweigan girls) and then English kids on school trips. Oh and if we were really lucky we had smaller kids skidding on knees all over the main reception area where the lifts were, whenever we went in or out! Staff seem unconcerned about the general 'free for all' .... FOOD= Mealtimes were hell on earth. Staff will not let you into 'restaurant' without waiting to be escorted by one of the 'waiters' and one day we waited for 15 mins to be seated even though breakfast lasted from 7.30-11am. Families and kids 'elbowing and fighting' for buffet and walking into/over everyone else - babies and little ones running amok in between our legs by the hot drinks machines. Food plentiful but very bland, catering I think for a more Northern European clientel. My son's friend got sick from the squid/cuttlefish which was uncooked (yes he's a rarity, a kid who likes seafood) and one day I saw uncooked pork being served. Veg was overcooked into mush a lot. We discovered that lot of the problems arise from the fact that the dining room seems to be serving a LOT more people than the hotel holds so we wondered if they also serve people from the other Aqua Hotels/Self Catering suites nearby. So many people that you never see the same people twice at mealtimes we estimated over 2000 at one mealtime .... ROOMS= Hotel is built in an 'M' shape. First given 2 double bed rooms when we paid for a double and twin bedded rooms for teens in our party. These were on 5th floor. Nice but concrete balcony had views only to fields and were very high. Rooms all clean and tidy but very small and 'tired' and not at all like the pics online. Bathrooms quite small and doors hit bidets on entering. Staff very overworked at cleaning. Rooms then got changed to the 2nd floor, one with views to back and other to front. Back room had all the tour buses revving up for 20 mins a time outside windows all day and night. Front facing room was in a dark corner with tiny balcony. Balcony size however irrelevant as noise from the pool and the evening entertainment (both indoor and out) meant we were unable to open doors a lot of the time, If I hear once more the 'Macarena', 'Agado' or any of the other 'join in' songs I will scream!!!!! ... HOTEL AREA= Hotel is set back to front with main door overlooking fields/car parks and the 'rear' being where the main pool and outside space is. Reception area has at times a pervading smell of raw sewage which seems to come from toilets/showers in the Underground section. Underground area has sweeping marble starcase leading to a very odd area that looks like an old bus station with Pool tables and a Games Room. Internet access is cheaper here than in main Reception area - 1 euro for 30mins as opposed to 7 euros for 1 hour upstairs! Not a lot of room in the main Reception area as lifts fill the middle of the large space. Kids are always seated on the couple of steps up to the lifts. Only 5 chairs in this area for sitting/waiting for taxis/coaches. If coach party is leaving at end of holiday no room for people or cases. Outside pool is far too small for the amount of people in the hotel and the space around the pool does not have enough sunbeds. Evening 'entertainment' is the usual Elvis, Man-Woman Duo etc doing the same boring hits from 30 years ago when I first went to the costas. There is not enough room in the hotel for everyone using the facilities. There is a Brassiere by the pool and the food there is superb, ribs, chicken and beef freshly spit roasted. There is also a Pizzaria on site which the boys said was ok..... OUTSIDE= Right outside the 'rear' of the hotel is the Promanade then the main road. Over the road is the railway line and beyond that trees and the massive long stretch of beach. Station is only about 200 metres from the hotel and train runs every half hour to Barcelona.... Pineda, Calella and other resorts on the Costa Brava only a station or two away. Stalls are outside hotel every night and on a Tuesday the road is closed off for a larger market. It's a nice enough resort with plenty of cafes and the ubiquous 'tat shops'. I booked this holiday as a 'end of exam' break for us, our son and his friend. I paid a lot of money for HB. Although this was billed by the operator as a 4star it would struggle to be a 3star. The hotel in fact has both 4 stars outside the main door and then 3 on it's logos higher up the building so I guess it's been downgraded. We are a fun-loving family and don't often complain but we expected a lot more than what we got for our money. We would NOT go back to this place if it was free!!!! Stayed July 2011, traveled with family "

"hotel said 3 star but it should be 4 star .The night entertainment was brill in the hotel .The hotel was spotless and the restaurant was lovely the food was basic but fresh . The staff were excellent but needed to speak better English .I Think we were the only English in the hotel. The only problem we had was we booked with travel republic and the transfer coach broke down going to the hotel so we was stuck in a lay-by for half a hour . Then on the way back the coach never picked us up and they had to send us a mini bus one and a half hours later so we go to the airport just as the were closing the gates. "

Brill Holiday Been Loads of Times
"My husband and i have been to aqua marina for the past 6 years we have been with family members and friends and love this hotel. We have been on the sencond and third floor and on different sides of the hotel. Well the rooms are very clean and the cleaners are very friendly. The staff is mostly friendly but we have encountered some rude ones. If you just ignore them then it is fine. The food has been a bit hit and miss but my brother who went with us last year is a very fussy eater and loved the food so you can only make judgement on what you thought. Entertainment is not so good so we go out the Alhambra hotel in the town has really good entertainment and everyone is allowed in. We have also went to the medieval night which is brill as they also have flamingo dancers after the knights have entertained you. Santa Susanna is quiet but you can go to Barcelona, Calella, Lloret de mar, or Blanes for a day out on the train. The dolfi boats are another good day out as you can go off the boat and see the other places in costa brava. Good places out are marineland which also has a water park, water world is also good and if you go to the go karts you can get a free taxi from outside the alhambra, from there you also catch the free buses to marineland and water world, in june/july there is a circus which tents up at the back of the hotel. There is markets in santa susanna on a tuesday and malgrat on a thursday. The markets outside the hotel at night are brill for arts and crafts. I love this hotel and would recommend it to anyone."

"i loved this hotel the food was great different every night i am a fussy eater and i could not fault the food the rooms were clean every day and if you put your towels in the bath you got clean towels every day they even had wee bottles of shampoos and showel gels you could use for free we tried to hire a fridge but this was only in preminum rooms so the hotel reception let us keep the milk in their fridge because i had a 1 year old child which was very good of them the staff were very friendly outside the hotel there were stalls that lined up in the streets for about a mile long and every tuesday morning you had a market that went for 1/2 mile long as well you could walk to malgrat which was not very far and you had a mini market outside the hotel and a shopping centre beside the hotel across the field in front of hotel was another shopping centre with other shops in side it would remind you of tescos and across from it was a shop like currys and beside it was a toy shop in the main street there wwere plenty of shops even a funfair the beach was just across the road you could walk under the railway bridge or down a slope if you have wheel chair or pram the only thing was the pool was freezing i would go back to this hotel without a doubt i was with my husband and 1 year old daughter in the basement of hotel was a games rooms plenty of snooker tables as well the entertainment in hotel was not great but other bars to go to the station pub was cheap for anybody that drinks two pints for 3 euro so don't knock it till you try it"

Had a Great time-Everyone book!
"Kids entertainment/ activites amazing-staff so friendly and clever with children! Food-plenty of choice nice quality, generally lovely Beach-golden sands, massive, clear blue sea. So many facilites on site! Including a lovely bar sometimes though the night time entertainment was terrible. Didn't meet a horrible member of staff whilst there which was great. Other problem was the weather,it was hideous Overall had a great time !!"

"really nice hotel, just booked to go third time. spotless, nice staff, food is ok but certainly not bad as some people have said. santa susanna is only small and not loads to do but it is an excellent base to travel to other resorts while still being able to enjoy peace and quiet. would definately reccommend."

"The hotel was extremely tidy, clean and comfortable. The facilities were ideal for guests who were only going to be spending the evenings around the hotel. The rooms were immaculate, kept well and again, comfortable. Overall an extremely good stay, and a credit to the trip."

"1St Time We Travelled To Costa Brava As Well As Going Half Board. It Was Not What I Expected It Was Nicer Than I Thought. The Hotel Was Spotlessly Clean, Staff Were Very Helpful. Food Was Magnificent With Choice For Every Nationality. Swimming Pool Was Spacious But The Let Down Was No Flatables Were Allowed. The Hotel Was Idealy Situated For Beach, Train and Shops With Barcelona Just 50 Minutes Down The Road By Train. 25⬠Return Ticket For A Family Of Four Highly Recommend A Trip To The Nou Camp and Rambles. Market Stalls At A Night Time Outside The Hotel Main Street Was Ideal For Souvenirs."

"I have never seen such a dirty dinning room in and hotel I've been to. They do not clean the floor for days, all they do is change the upper table cloth. Food is partly cold, pretty much the same all the time. Plates, cups and glases are sometimes badly washed, and sometimes plates are so wet you can hardly keep it in your hand. People in the dining room are pretty upolite, food is only partial labeled. For example, you have a poor choice of only 4 differente teas - labeled in Spanish! Bleck tea is far from what we are used to. You can easily find unrippen fruits or rotten oranges ... Definitely the worst vacations I've had sofar. A big waste of money! "
