Superb Hotel but watch which room you get
"Just stayed at the Guitart Monterrey for 5 nights and was very impressed with the Hotel in General - took the train fron Barcelona and then the bus from Blanes into Lorrete De Mar Bus station. My tip would be to take a taxi up to the Hotel as you can see it from the Bus Station but the main entrance is passed the Hotel and quite a walk with cases.
We were originally given a room at the back of the Hotel as we had heard that there was a busy road at the front - was woken at 8:00 the next morning by very loud drilling noises from the work that was going on at the Theatre to the left of the Hotel - there is also a lot of work and cranes to the right of the Hotel (very close by in each occassion).
We requested a move change from the reception - not very friendly - and was given a room on the 5th.floor (Room 525) which was a superb room with lovely views - the double glazing is so good that you cant hear the road noise.
Very quiet at the Hotel especially at night - but the pianist and Jazz players were very relaxing .
An excellent Bar in town is called the Orient Express (thanks Fredy for a great time) which had an excellent pint and superb food."

This is not a five star...worst hotel in Costa Brava
"This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. And we have traveled all over the world. This hotel was very dirty. We had to change rooms three times. Since we prepaid for this stay we have to fight with expedia now to get a refund. One room was bug infested and had mold in the bathrooms. The second room had a broken TV and the final third room that we stayed in was very dirty. This is far from a five star hotel."

Excellent Hotel and service (Thank you Mark)
"At the beginning of July 2009 we checked in this hotel in Lloret de Mar, as we had major issues/problems with our accommodation (Eugenia) that Sun4U Holiday Company had provided for us.
I can only say that the staff at the Monterrey, especially Mark, were really helpful and sorted us out with a lovely room with the utmost professionalism, in our hour of need. The Sun4U holiday company did nothing and really did not care if we were sleeping on the streets. I would truly recommend this hotel to anyone especially business travellers and honeymooners. The food and service were excellent. Mark even recommended and arranged a transfer to their sister hotel in Barcelona for our last two days to the Grand Passage that was also excellent. Thank you Mark for turning our nightmare holiday into a pleasurable one."

"We booked this hotel trough booking.com where it was stated that the hotel has Internet in the rooms. On the website of the hotel it is also written that they have Internet everywhere even at the swimming pool.
When we arrived the Internet was working ONLY in the bar and the reception area.
They gave us a room with a view on a construction site, very noisy because the hotel is near to the main road. The room was also too small and very dark, you don't feel taht you are in holyday in such a place.
The breakfats was tasty and the pool looked nice even though we didn't try it.
We moved to another hotel the next day. This is definetely not a 5* hotel, maybe a 3***."

"Offered as a last minute alternative to Hotel booked in Tossa De Mar due to original hotel cancellation of our booking. Lloret is pretty seedy compared to Tossa although we didn't know this at the time of booking having never visited this part before.
The hotel itself is OK but not up to its 4 star rating. Food in the main (buffet style) restaurant was frankly terrible. Hot food was only 'luke warm' and served on cold plates. 1st night lamb chops were like rubber, second night I went for the chicken which was almost uncooked (raw)! When I complained, the general manager was very apologetic and gave us a complimentary meal at the a la carte (Faux) restaurant and this was extremely good and I would wholeheartedly recommend it - but it would be expensive to eat here every night.
Generally the staff were polite but I wouldn't recommend this hotel and definately wouldn't stay there again"

Very average tourist hotel
"We stayed at this hotel in Lloret de Mar for one week. The hotel is designed for the tourist/family market, as is Lloret itself. If you are looking to take in any Spanish culture at all, then you should probably go elsewhere, e.g. Barcelona. However, if you are looking for a typical beach holiday then this might be for you. The hotel is about 15mins walk from the main beach in Lloret and is on a hill, so the location could be better. The hotel staff were rather disorganised, though they did try to be helpful. The hotel has a 4 star rating, but feels more like a 2 or 3 star hotel as the decor is dated and a bit shabby. Nonetheless, the hotel does have a reasonable range of features, e.g. swimming pool, tennis, putting, and various other entertainments. An evening buffet meal is provided with a reasonable choice of food, but the food selection is essentially the same every day, so you will not want to eat there all the time. The hotel rooms are reasonably priced, but any extras (e.g. drinks, phone-calls, lunch) cost a lot. In summary, there were no serious problems with the hotel, but it didn't really live up to expectations."

Shabby & Rude
"Stayed for a couple of days - one day there was no breakfast - no reason given - just to have a coffee in the bar instead!
Staff were rude and unhelpful. The decor needs updating and some of the furniture is quite shabby.
I won't be returning."

"Stayed for 4 days. Great time. Clean tidy fairly friendly. Children 10, 12 loved it. Minor downside - wine saved from previous meal in half board restaurant got exchanged for a cheaper one - now we sign the label. Food good, great location."
