"After changing booking from another hotel, i never knew what to expect. We had a pleasant surprise upon arrival, friendly receptionists, especially carolina.Got on very well and had daily chats and laugh. The room was very clean and good over looking the pool.no problem with shower. Only one let down was the lack of water on dinner tables, which is basic reqirement in restaurants. All in all i would recommend this hotel. "

"I went to Lloret De Mar a few years back with my partner and we stayed in Fennel Gardens - I thought it was brilliant! The room is pretty standard, just a bed and a bath/shower, a safe and fridge is available but you have to buy then for the week - it was 50euros when we went in 2008. If your planning to have a holiday stuck in your hotel room then obviously this isnt for you! The staff were friendly, we only had breakfast included, but it was lovely! There is a wide range of food to choose from, from fatty foods to fruit! There is a sauna, jacuzzi and gym that you can hire out to have all to yourself for 50 euros, which was wicked...however the jacuzzi had a bit too much clorine in it for me, my eyes were watering a bit!! I much prefer Fennel Gardens to most of the hotels in Lloret De Mar is you can go back to your room when you want to (as you'd expect) where as some hotels have "lights out" at 10! And it isnt packed with teenagers running around drunk! Lloret De Mar was lovely as a whole, lots of shops, lots of friendly people and the beach was really nice, not a pebble in sight! There isnt many clubs situated near Fennal Gardens so it is nice a quiet, however 20 mins up the road it is club and pub heaven! The down side of the clubbing part is everywhere you go random people try to sell you drugs... it isnt very nice - so you can imagine what kind of crowd you are surrounded by when your trying to enjoy your night! Over all, if your staying in Fennel Gardens, its the perfect holiday for sun bathing by the pool and relaxing if you want to... and drinking if you dont!"

"Very disappointed. While many of the staff are helpful and friendly we found the reception staff to be indifferent. My wife suffers from Osteo Porosis and is unable to move veru quickly. She was alarmed the first time the water temperature in the shower went from warm to scalding hot in a few seconds. We reported this fault, but the same thing happened to me the following day. The problem continued through out our stay. We were woken by the noise of the bathroom doors (on either side of us) being opened in the early hours of the morning and the restaurant was so bad that eventhough we had half board after three days we started eating in local restaurants."

great hotel for the price
"When we booked the holiday i checked reviews and i wasnt looking forward to the holiday but when we arrived i was pleasently relieved, my first impresions was a nice friendly clean hotel, the receptionists were very helpful as we had left a bag on the transfer coach and they did everything possible to help get it back for us. The room was nice and clean, the rooms facing pool are much better but it dint bother us facing the road it wasnt too loud. Our towels and sheets were changed everyday and cleaners were realy friendly, food was nice a different choice for every night. overall- great holiday and would definately go back to this hotel."

"I stayed in Fenals Garden with my boyfriend and another young couple for 10 nights in September. We were very impressed by the hotel and would definately go back again. After reading many bad reviews we were worried that it wasn't going to be very nice, however we did notice that the majority of the poor ratings were based around the food and we prefer to eat out on holiday anyway and therefore we went B+B simply because this was the cheapest option. Our room was always kept nice and clean with fresh towels provided reguarly. The staff were very friendly and it was located in a good place as we could take a short walk to find nice places to eat and family pubs or we could walk slightly further for approx 10 minutes to find more livlier nightlife. We all had a brilliant holiday and were very impressed with what we got for the amount we paid."

"This is by far the worst holiday i have ever been on! However im sure things would have been different if we had stayed at a different hotel. I would not recommend anyone under the age of 40 who is English to stay at Fennel Gardens. Literally as soon as we stepped foot into the hotel we were spoken to and treated with no respect and we had met other groups of a similar age and nationality who had experienced the same treatment. The reception and restaurant staff were extremely unhelpful to the point of rude, the rooms were very basic with a shower which switched from boiling to freezing and after waking up after a night in the beds you felt like you had slept rough! There were no English television channels apart from CNN and Euro sports, although plenty of Spanish, French and German channels. Our room looked over a busy main road, which was noisy 24/7 with a crane right outside as the view! The breakfast was disgusting, everything swimming in grease, and resulted in one of our party going down with food poisioning! Lloret de Mar as a whole was ok, a couple of beaches however these were pebble and not sand, many shops but pretty much all the same stuff. We did go to Marineland which was fantastic the dolphin and bird shows were brilliant and the waterpark had several rides with minimal queing, i would say this was the highlight of our trip!"

"I stayed at this hotel for a week, with my partner and my 13 month old daughter. we were warmly welcomed by members of staff and showned to our room, the hotel looked and smelt really clean. our room was small but perfectly formed with a double bed but not really big enough for the cot that was requested when booked. when cot in room we could not move. the bathroom was the size of a cupboard only enough for one person. the balcony made up for the size of the room that was nice over looking the pool area. i asked for my sheets to be changed but i still had the same ones.the room was on the inner part of the hotel but it was very noisy being next to a main road. we paid and booked for half board but the food was terrible we only ate for two days, as we found flys in the bread and hairs in the ceral bowls. the hotel only really catered for the spanish and the french. there was no childrens food at all. my daughter lived on chicken nuggets and chips those two days. you were not allowed to take bottled water into the restaurant as you had it taken off you. then charged a silly amount for a bottle of water. we complained but they didnt really want to know all they could tll us was that all the food was brought in and not cooked by them. we could not choose where we sat as there was not enough in there for the hight chairs supplied. not very child friendly the high chairs did not have any form of restraint. the pool was a decent size and plenty of sun beds but enough sun shade to go around. there was a nice sized grass area to go around. at the end of the holiday they gave us a jug of sangrea to compensate and an applogy. "no way can this hotel be considered 4* we were on 6th floor facing the road, and very noisy, even though other reviews say sound proof? our room was tired looking and was in need of a makeover. We booked for 3 people, but it looked as if an extra bed was put in a 2 bed room, making it quite cramped. Food was just o.k We used for breakfast, but after getting tired of the same food every day, went out the last 2 nights for evening meal. We found some of the staff quite autocratic in the restaraunt, and reception, our 13 year old boy took a drink in, (plastic bottle of water) and it was removed from him by a waiter without our say so, and we were stopped from playing football on the grass behind the pool. (It felt like we were breaking the rules on a school trip) Good points are the buses stopped right outside the hotel for airport transfer and trips, the rooms were cleaned well every day. I have stayed in nicer 4* hotels, and cannot recommend this one, classing as 3* at best. The resort is nice though, and would consider going back "

Great value late break
"The staff at this hotel are probaly the most pleasant and accommodating that we have ever come accross. It was a very "low budget" holiday and we did not expect the standards we were met with. The rooms and public areas were kept spotlessly clean. We had fresh towels daily and 2 linen changes in the week. We were half board and went with the idea that for what we had paid we would eat out if the food was not up to much - we didn't have to. Yes it did get a bit boring but we always managed to find something to suit. Perhaps over a 2 week stay I would have thought differently. For a 4 star hotel the bar prices were very reasonable - 1.40 euros a small beer, 6 euros for an ok (not "quality" but ok) bottle of wine. The sunbeds round the pool could do with an update. We didn't expect to use them at this time of the year but the lovely sunshine was another unexpected bonus. We requested a pool view room and got one. Our friends were on the front of the hotel and did find the traffic noise at bit too much at times. Overall a great value late break."

Excellent review of holtel and location
"We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava, Spain. We found Lloret de Mar a good holiday location for the average tourist, with a beach, main shopping area and plenty of nightlife. We would definitely recommend Water World as a day out for any age group with plenty of slides, pools and relaxing areas. We would recommend arriving early, however some of the rides do not open until a little later. We travelled via a dedicated free bus and were lucky enough to find the bus stop across the road from our hotel. Another great day out included a trip to Barcelona only an hours coach trip away from Lloretâs central bus station, however we advise getting coach tickets as early as possible due to queues. Whilst at Barcelona we managed to see all the sights by using the cityâs tourist bus that allowed you 1 or 2 day access and could hop on/off at each tourist attraction, but expect queues. We stayed at the lovely Fenal Gardens Hotel just 10mins from the centre of Lloret and 5mins from the nearest beach. Room was cleaned on daily basis to an excellent standard with fresh towels and clean sheets. The room was a decent size with twin double beds, a fair-sized balcony, TV, wardrobe, hairdryer and all other essential amenities (which include a safe at a small cost). We stayed Half Board and found the food to a good standard with a variety of hot and cold meals to suit the fussiest of eaters. On a late arrival to the hotel on our the 1st night we even had a cold plate provided which was totally unexpected, but very much appreciated after a long journey. The pool was clean and sun lounges a plenty with some umbrellas and small tables near poolside. The only evening entertainment we saw in the hotel bar was three professional flamenco dancers who put on a good performance that was well worth a watch. We had no complaints about the hotel or the staff who were very friendly and professional. Would recommend the hotel and would definitely stay there again."

My husband and I have just returned form...
"My husband and I have just returned form a week at the Fenals Garden Hotel from 1st Sept to 8th, on arrival we were worried about its location, by a busy main road and roundabout. On entering the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff who allocated us a room on the second floor. We went to one of the lifts, of which there are two that carry up to 4 people each and on to our room. The room was spacious clean and tidy, we settled in and went on to the large balcony to assess the area and the view. There was a lot of traffic on the main road as it was 6pm, and the roundabout was very busy, but at no time during our stay did the noise from the traffic give us a problem. Our room was cleaned every morning around 10am, with our maid changing sheets, pillowcases, bath and hand towels and topping up soaps and shampoo as necessary. The food in the hotel was acceptable; bearing in mind that this area appears to cater for mainly the French and Spanish pallet, breakfast consisted of three types of serials. A hot counter of bacon, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage and tomatoes. There was a salad bar with cheeses and cold meats etc there was always fruit available and not forgetting the toaster that had a mind and a speed of its own? Evening meals were again acceptable with a wide choice available, fish, a stew, curry, meat balls, Bolognese, Pasta, rice, chicken, pork, and beef, there was also chips, nuggets, dessert were always a choice of 4 to 5 fruits, Youghurt, ice cream, jelly etc so plenty of choice. The pool area was very clean with plenty of sun beds, sun-shades, tables and chairs and a grass area to choose from. The only down side was that they allowed drinks in GLASSES to be taken out to the pool there, not very child friendly. Most 4* hotels only allow plastic within this area? The area of Fenals was very clean and tidy there were plenty of gift shops, but there was very little choice within them, with only a few exceptions when you had looked in one shop the rest were the same. There were plenty of places to get hot or cold food at any time of the day. The only problem we incurred was at a place called Paulaâs bar we sat down and waited to be served after 5 minutes someone came cleaned the table and said they would return, another 10 minutes still no-one, so we moved on to a great place on the same side of the road as the hotel that had crazy golf. The food was excellent, the service first class and the staff took the time to chat and have a laugh with you. One thing that we noticed within the area was how many re-cycling bins there were and the people of all ages that used them, from the very young to âand I will be politeâ the other end of the scale, even on the beach the different colour bins were available. The beach was easily accessible with a short ten minute stroll, there was plenty to do and see from boat trips that started right on the shore to Para-gliding and banana boat for the young and fit, to doing absolutely nothing but soaking up that wonderful sun! One extremely good point on the beach was the service for the disabled, which comprised of two or three trained life-guards who would lift the person from their wheel-chair into a totally floatable chair that would then be wheeled down the beach and into the sea. The person would stay in the water for as long as they wished, with a life-guard at there side. Again only one point of concern was the access to the sea, the drop from the beach into the water was extremely steep, you could go from ankle deep to 2 meters deep within three meters of the shore and as we witnessed ourselves even adults could have their legs taken from under them by the out going waves, again children need to be carefully supervised at the waters edge. A good hotel with good food worthy of a 4 Star rating. Clean and tidy area, good beach, plenty of things to see and do. Great weather, in the mid to high 20s to a wonderful 30C on the last Friday. We had a wonderful time and we would definitely go back and recommend to our friends. "

A friendly hotel
"We have just returned from five days staying at the Fenals Garden Hotel, Lloret and would thoroughly recommend staying there. Having read some reviews (after I had booked the hotel!) I was a little anxious but need not have been. We had half board and there was plenty of choice of food for breakfast (either a cooked breakfast or cereals, yohurt, fruit, cold meat or all of it, if you could manage it!) and in the evening we had a similar good choice of soup, hot food or salad and puddings and fruit. The hotel is situated outside of the main town of Lloret but it is only a short walk into the town centre and the bus station. There are frequent buses from there to other resorts, the airport and Barcelona. The beach is also only a five minute walk away and there are boat trips and water sports available from there. The large water park is nearby and there are free buses to it. A large supermarket is across the road and there are several restaurants and cafes close by. I thoroughly recommend the Hungry Horse, just up the road, for a good choice of menu and several vegetarian options. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean, comfortable and cleaned daily. All in all an excellent hotel."
