280 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
Awful hotel. Full of badly behaved British people.
"Arrived late at night. Room very small. Walls paper thin. Bathroom really dirty. People either side swearing and shouting could here everything. So glad we only had breakfast and not all inclusive. Booked last minute as a mystery holiday. Never again. You get what you pay for"

"This was a nightmare, had door thumped in and took proof to reception who said why are you showing me paper,i had already explained this was the fist print of paint that two morons had done with my door,no surprise was shown. The police came on three occasions and most of the staff had no basic customer service skills, like smiling and basic manners,I know it was not there fault that they had thugs and criminals in the hotel but they should have watched the cctv and got the police involved.I have traveled all over the world and thought a cheap holiday could be good,it was not, miss out the middle man and just go to strange ways, its safer,ON NO ACCOUNT EVER VISIT THIS HOTEL,IT SHOULD BE CLOSED."

"On arrival given a key for 7th Floor, when getting out of lift one long corridor painted dirty cream, with about 10 maroon doors doors down each side, reminiscent of Cell Block H, the room itself was smaller than the photos show, same dirty cream walls and everything else painted dark maroon, headboard, bedside cabinet (1), dressing table (very small) doors looked like they had been punched or kicked and repaired with filler. Air-con unit above door had black mold and fluff all around it, and when we asked about the heating/air con were told too late in season for air con and too early for heating (October). The info page that comes up on internet states you can get an iron/ironing board at reception but when asked for was told "it's not our website, travel agents can put what they want". The use of a safe, which is already in the room costs 28 euro for the week, they just supply the key. Each room has a TV circa 1970 but you have to pay a 20 euro deposit for a remote if you want to watch it. The rooms were cleaned daily and beds made. The food (all inclusive) was the same every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner and seemed to be recycled with gravy or sauce to look a bit different. It was never hot, breakfast, once collected from the trays had to be microwaved to make it warm enough to eat. The reason for this is, having geared up outside the dining room, we saw that the food trays were put out at least 20 minutes before the doors were opened for service. The hotels Gumf says a quiet area, but has a coach stopover park out rear of hotel, and Calella coach garage, constantly in use approx 100 meters to the right of their own coach park. To the left rear of the building a large school which as pupils come and go is very noisy. There were coaches of kids football teams coming and going every day and to have 3/4 coaches of kids arrive at the same time made using the lifts, getting through reception, or getting into the entertainment area nearly non existent. On the plus side The White Horse/Gringo Joes across the road does a very good full English breakfast and a good variety on their menu all day, which we used on a daily basis due to the very poor quality of the food in the hotel on all inclusive. It was our first time at this H.Top hotel and will definitely be our last. Out of all the people we spoke to there only 1 man said he would return. We just hope that other H Top hotels are better than the Olympic."

"Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Olympic, and as much as we enjoy staying here, it was spoiled by feral kids running wild. I would recommend that you do not stay here between March to the 1st week in may,due to unruly, ignorant arrogant kids, who,s sole ambition seemed to be, upsetting as many guests as possible, by banging on doors, smashing windows & throwing water bombs from their balconies, the biggest culprits were Spanish kids closely followed by French Italian & German as ambassadors for their Countries they were a complete embarrassment and gives rise to the lack of Moral guidance & respect given to them, and at best calls into question the parental skills in their home Countries. Credit must be given to the tolerance and forbearance shown by the Bar staff under the tidal wave of disrespect aimed at them by Feral kids, a special mention and thank you goes to Albert Ismail Vivi David & Jorge for their sterling work in making a Debacle, work. The hotel is great at any other time of the year and we look forward to going back in Sept, "

"Where to start??? The room was just awful - 3 beds pushed together for 2 adults and my 9 year old son. No room to move around at all. Pubic hair lying in a clump in the corner, dirt everywhere. I sat and cried for an hour as reception would not move us. Air con worked though which was a blessing! Tried to get moved via our travel company - they refused. 100 teenagers on a school trip throwing up over balconies after drinking too much, incredibly noisy and rude. Bar staff just awful - they would stand chatting and ignoring queues. I was always mindful of being polite and not making the situation worse but I dont think it would have made the slightest bit of difference to be honest. Pool areas clean though which saved the day or I would have been throwing myself off the balcony!! Food not very good either but it was edible and we didnt starve. Please dont go here - pay a wee bit extra and go elsewhere. Incoming guests creating merry hell in reception continually as well. "

Should have listened to other reviews! !
"Stayed here for our 'honeymoon' and was the biggest mistake we amde! Should've listened to other reviews but thought, 'give it a try, you never know'. Room was clean and cleaning staff were very polite and god but that's about as far as the 'good review' goes. The hotel had nearly 200 German teenagers and their staff (most on our floor - level 2) and they did nothing but abuse people, shout, scream, kick doors etc, right from the get-go and at any time (including still going at 5-30am every night)! There were many complaints to reception from other guests yet NOTHING was done. I complained myself and was told 'I will tell someone about it' but nothing eventuated. The food was nothing to write home about either and was never hot, mostly luke warm or cold. The all-inclusive's service (which we were on) was extremely slow and the bar staff were grumpy and rude and had about as much charm and politeness as a mental case with a hatchet! I know one gets what one pays for but, a sign on every floor said 'please respect other guests', and there were also the 'non-smoking' signs yet the Germans showed no respect towards other guests, they smoked in the rooms, on the balconies, in the corridors, etc. I do not blame the hotel's staff but I do blame their managers for not having the Balls to speak up and enforce the hotel's own policies. If they had of done, our stay would have been a more pleasant one. So, if you have taken the time to read this post, please read the others as well and choose H-top Palace (just across the road), it was a much nicer hotel, the staff were great and the service was excellent so it goes to show it is not the H-top chain, merely the Olympic and its managers that are the rotten apples in the barrell."

Good value for money
"We have stayed at this Hotel twice - once in 2009 and once this summer 2011. The hotel serves good food three times a day, although selection is limited. Rooms were very clean both visits, fresh linen and towels daily. The hotel's poor entertainment in the evening lets it down. Although all inclusive we spent a few evenings elsewhere for something to do. Hotel is showing definite signs of wear and tear, could do with a refurb. Overall, good value for the money we paid, staff also very friendly and helpful, same on both visits. If you want a luxury hotel pay more and go elsewhere as this is not it."

you get what you pay for
"my wife and i stayed at the olympic for three nights. firt impressions, bus pulls up to a huge hotel with seven floors. the reception staff very welcoming as were the bar staff and cleaning staff. the room was a typical 3star room. a bit damp but you only sleep there.we were on the sixth floor which was not a problem as there were 3 lifts which all worked fine.the hotel has four pools which were all decent sizes. but it wasnt until the second day we realised to use the pools infront of the hotel as you get more sun time.all inc system good even though you are only allowed one drink at a time which was ok. the food,, hmmmm well mon and tues ok then its asif you were getting left overs from night before with a few extras. do you enjoy pigs trotters?.. veal was liver but nice. we only went out to eat once to "alcatraz" english bar. very friendly and good food. we may not go to the olympic again but there are other H.TOP hotels we will try.. all in all a good holiday with plenty of sun. David & Debz in leicestershire."
