reasonable value but service MUST improve
"We have stayed a few times in this hotel simply because of the absolute lack of other 5 stars hotels in the area. The rooms are nice but stay away from rooms near the pool and the restaurant if you value your rest. Cleaning is o.k. but often done as early as 2 or 3 p.m.. The staff is typically spanish : now they see you and now they don't. Not very friendly and usually busy with each other. A real pity. Check your bill frequently on the t.v., mistakes happen. Roomservice is slow and often not complete."

"Stayed here with my husband and 6yr old son and had a good time. Be aware though, the Kids Club staff spoke mostly in Spanish (Spanish children were in the majority) which put my son off. The in room TV has no children's channels and limited to news unless you paid for a film. However, we had some very good evening entertainment when we were there including acrobats and dancers and the pool is great (particularly good for toddlers as very shallow at one end). We enjoyed the breakfast buffet but preferred to eat in the evening at the port in Javea (which has lovely views out to sea). The Spa has a great Jacuzzi which is lovely when the pool gets too busy. Staff on the whole ok but some of the younger members looked a bit cross. Good all round value family hotel (particularly for under 5's) but my advice would be to definitely get a car so you have more eating out options and take lots of games!!"

5 Star now and then
"Having watched this hotel being built over the past years, we vowed to stay there, which we did for a long weekend in March 2006. Certainly the building and upkeep are worthy of 5 star status. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped; the beds comfortable and the housekeeping first class. Nice balcony overlooking the La Sella Golf Course. The pool and gym were of a similar high standard and the Spa complex, although not used by us was very reasonably priced and seemed popular with guests. We stayed on a Room and Breakfast basis and found the food to be good quality and well prepared and presented. So what's our problem? Well, the hotel is popular as a conference venue and large groups "take over" the common areas when not in session. Plus on the Saturday night we stayed, there was a big wedding and that must have spoilt the sleep of many, as it spilled out into the pool area. We were OK on the other side of the hotel although the music was still going at 2.00am and cars leaving at 4.45am. The room contained no info whatsoever about hotel/local facilities nor how to operate the ( ineffectual) air conditioning. The hot water supply seemed a bit hit and miss - could not run a hot bath at 9.30pm on a Saturday night. The dreaded Spanish drain smell wafted around now and then. We ate in the Montgo restaurant on our first night which was about 25% full. Service was slow and the staff seemed to be in a perpetual state of niggle and moan with each other. They could do with some kind of charm offensive; maybe their colleagues on Reception could help here, with their helpful "can do" attitude and welcoming glass of Cava on arrival! The food and wine was however excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel is clearly popular and rightly so. It is situated in a lovely part of Spain ( Costa Blanca) with excellent links to Valencia and Alicante. Nearby towns of Javea and Denia ( ferry links to the Balearics) are great places to see. But we just couldn't make this a 5 star break given f the inconsistencies."

Great mix of family and parent resort
"We booked a last minute fare via mariott in a junior suite with breakfast included for our two kids (6/9). Considering the very low price of this mariott it is one of the best bargains I have found so far in Spain. The experience with the staff and hotel infrastructure was exceptional, in contrast to some other reviews we prefered the hotel dinner to any place in Javea or Denia. It is a great place to chill out and relax, no package tourist experiences, very child friendly."

"Excellent hotel: we stayed in Denia for 4 days last month. While the hotel is a few miles outside of the main town there is a new (public bus) service which runs by the hotel to Denia and Javea. The buffet breakfast has excellent variety. The staff are very polite. Unfortunately one of my tops was taken to the laundry by mistake. We thought this was lost forever but a few days after returning home a package arrived with the freshly laundered top! I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this hotel."

poor service for a five star hotel
"We stayed at the Marriott hotel last week. We have previously stayed at a sister hotel in Majorca which was much better. We arrived on Sunday night, tired and ready for dinner to be told the main restaurant was closed but we could eat in the second restaurant. When we went in we were told the only option was a American buffet - which I didn't want. They did have a menu in that restaurant but I was told that I could choose food from that menu but they couldn't serve it in the restaurant but would serve it in our room! I told the girl on the desk that didn't make sense - she told me that was their rule! I then went to the reception desk to explain that I wasn't happy. Fortunately and many thanks to the man on reception that night as he immediately contacted the restaurant and instructed them to give us food from the menu. When we returned to the restaurant the waiter told me what a problem I was causing him! They clearly have a need to train their restaurant staff in customer service. As other reviews have said the service at the pool bar was very slow some days. The spa treatments were very good and despite the poor standards of service (reception excluded) we enjoyed our stay."

Good hotel, great breakfast.
"Hotel is a few miles out of Denia, so car advisable. Buffet beakfast, which is served until midday, is excellent. Pool is excellent for youngsters."

Beware the bills and food
"They don't have a system of checking that you are who you say you are in the bar. When I checked out I went through the slips and found a great deal of them were posted to my account and had nothing to do with me! Another in our party had items posted to his room from the week before we arrived. Advice is to put a mark or number on everything you sign as they'll argue about this at check out and claim they can't tell the difference between signatures. The food is truly dreadful...avoid if you can. 3 in our party were ill and one picked a large piece of plastic cigarette wrapper out of his food which was declared a "mystery" when we brought it to the attention of a manager. I experienced the frying of an egg in 2 inches of cold olive oil and many of the things contained in other reviews...shame as the place is pretty and all it would take to make it excellent would be better management of the catering and any sort of system that avoided paying for others' drinks at the bar."

Brilliant for families
"Stayed here with husband and 3 kids aged 6, 4 and 1 year for 7 nights. It is perfect for small kids, my older 2 went to the kids club - which is only 5 euros per day or 10 euros if they stay for lunch. Excellent value as the kids loved playing with other children, making bracelets, playing in the pool, games, soft play, art and watching movies. The outdoor pool is very kid friendly as it has no area deeper than 5 foot and lots of shallow parts perfect for toddlers. The rooms are typically of Marriott stndard, big and well decorated and very clean - easily accommodated the 5 of us. We got an excellent deal of 7 nights for £707 B&B including 1 weeks car hire for free from Hertz collected at Valencia airport via Marriott web site. This must be the cheapest deal for any 4 star hotel in Europe in August. We had a lovely stay and will stay here again, but I have to agree about the food. The pool bar snacks could have been purchased at Pontins in Blackpool - very poor, the breakfast buffet was OK (my husband liked it) and the evening buffet was at best average. The food in the fine dining restaurant Segaria was beautiful but the prices! You will need a second mortgage. Lovely hotel, great holiday but eat in Denia just off the beach it is very good value, or pay 25% more for the same thing and eat just off the beach in Javea."

"We stayed here for 6 nights at the end of July. The hotel is beautiful in all respects. The location is remote however the beach is 10min drive, there are some local restuarants within 5 mins drive all of which were excellent. A taxy back from Denia if you want a night out is 12-13euros. The hotel has a free shuttle bus to take you in to town and the beach and runs throughout the day till 9pm at night. The room was stunning, it was in the golf wing and looked over the mountains / swimming pool / golf course. It was spacious and well equipped. The staff were excellent, all very friendly and always prepared to go out of their way to assist. Of all the Marriotts we have stayed in the staff were among the best we have experienced. The buffet breakfast is very good, but could do with some variation. The buffets in the evening are variable, but we do not like buffet at the best of times so chose to eat out. The other restuarant had excellent food, but is a little expensive. The pool bar was busy but we found the service very attentive and the cocktails in the evening for happy hour were great. The spa is worth a visit as well. All in all a great stay, we will almost definetely go back."
