It's Hard to Find a Fault With El Montiboli

"This hotel is a great value for the money! The sea front location is one of the best at which I've ever had the pleasure of staying.
We had a junior suite, and we thought it was a real bargain at about 250 Euros per night. The room was decorated simply, but the room was comfortable, the balcony was large, and the view was excellent. The bathroom was large, and well stocked with toiletries. A nice touch was the mini-bar which was pretty well-stocked with COMPLIMENTARY drinks!
The breakfast buffet, which was included in the room rate, had a very nice selection. Hot items were made to order. We ate dinner at the restaurant both nights of our stay, and we found the food to be very good. The first night we ordered the prix fixe dinner, the second night we ordered a la carte. If I have any complaint, it's that I wish that the restaurant would change their multi-course dinner every night. It's basically just a selection of items from the main menu. The service was excellent, the wine list was above average, and the food was very tasty.
We had drinks in the arab-decor bar both nights. We found the drinks to be pretty inexpensive for a hotel of this caliber, and the service was friendly and efficient.
The pool is a little small, but the location on the hillside is spectacular. It's a great place to relax and take in the scenery.
I had one treatment at the spa. The spa was fine, but I didn't think it was spectacular. I wouldn't describe it as luxurious, but it was definitely adequate. I felt that there was a little pressure applied to buy the spa products, but I guess most spas tend to do this.
Please note: this hotel is about a 30-minute taxi ride from Alicante airport. We went for a weekend of relaxation, and we never left the hotel grounds during our stay. This hotel is perfect if you want to do what we did which is basically relax, eat some good food, and enjoy a few drinks. I can't really say for certain if there's much to do in the area as far as sightseeing goes. It didn't look like there was too much to do in the area surrounding the hotel. It's mostly just an area of beaches. As a matter of fact, there are stairs that lead down from the hotel to a rocky beach. If you turn right at the bottom of the stairs, it's a public beach. If you turn left at the bottom of the stairs, then you're on a nude beach.
Overall, it's an excellent hotel. It's very luxurious, but in an understated way. The service is polite, but not overly friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here, and we plan to return next year. I guess that's the ultimate endorsement."

Perfect as ever

"This is the third year we have stayed for second May Bank Holiday weekend at El Montiboli. It is a perfect break. It is just half an hour from Alicante airport (now much easier to get to that they have opened the exit of the N332 to get directly there rather than driving all through Villajoyosa). At Spanish prices, it is not overly expensive to stay in the Torre Paradis part of the hotel - the 5 star end with bigger rooms and suites and we think worth it.
We fall asleep with the balcony doors open to the sound of the waves crashing below and no noise around to wake you in time for buffet breakfast which runs until 11am. It is a good breakfast which sets us up very well for heading down to the beach (pebbly so take your Tevas) and renting sun loungers (2.5 Euros per bed per day) on a very small private beach - never more than 40 people on it. It has its own snack bar with barbq to save going back up to the hotel for a more formal lunch.
We do not have dinner at the hotel as it is very Relais & Chateaux - pigeon, veal, rabbit with jus and foie gras, etc. whereas we prefer simpler albeit good food. That does make it difficult as there is only the one restaurant for dinner and the hotel is otherwise not very near towns that offer good food (Villajoyosa and Benidorm). For us, that is the only drawback and in fact for many who like that sort of cuisine, it would be no drawback at all.
For those that might be nervous of a previous review - there are two entirely separate beaches - a nudist one and a regular one so if you are feeling prudish, relax!"

The Best

"My girlfriend (now wife) and I spent 10 days in Spain the first week of September, 2001. We stayed in very nice places in Madrid, Seville and Barcelona, but the best by far was the El Montiboli in Villajoyosa. Our villa seemed to hang on the side of a cliff above the Medditerranean. The private courtyard, porch and view were fantastic!! We split our time between the family and nude beaches. The pool near the main hotel also hung over the sea and provided an amazing view. We extended our stay by one day just to make it last.

We returned to the United States on September 10 and often talk of going back to El Montiboli."

One of the Great Holiday Hotels

"We have stayed at El Montiboli twice and think that it is one of the best hotels in Europe.Rooms in the main hotel are spacious clean and comfortable and there are others cabanas amongst the flowers and other vegetation overlooking the sea. The sound of the water sends yoy to sleep very quickly. All the staff are polite and eager to help. The food is very good although quite expensive and as in most Spanish hotels, they are wonderfully kind to children. Two swimming pools - one overlooking the sea and the other in a quiet garden near to the beach.

Go there and enjoy a wonderful experience"
