10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"my wife and myself stayed in the sunset from 22 sept to the 7 oct and right from the begining the staff were very helpful and could not do enough for us , special mention to Gulia the receptionist. the apartments were very clean and the linen and towels were changed every other day .there was a well equiped kitchen with kettke, toaster. microwave coffee maker, sandwich maker hob and juicer. the pools were very clean and tidy and not to cold thank god. we did not eat at tasco marco's the onsite resteraunt but prefered big al's in the complex around the corner next to the sand's club. also the new resteraunt in the san blas shopping centre witch is to die for albe it rather expensive.there is no beach in the golf but the best beach is at LE MEDENO a 95cent bus ride away best to buy a bono bus card from a supermarket it makes the cost about 50%cheaper"

"My husband and I - a "mature couple" in our early 50s - have just got back from a week at the The Sunset View. We booked this holiday on the strength of the great reviews we read, but I have to say it was a bit disappointing. The apartment was nice - roomy, well equipt, air conditioned and a good view of the ocean. We arrived on a Monday lunchtime, but the "Welcome Meeting" wasn't until Saturday morning. Bit of a waste if you're only there for the week. The maid service left a bit to be desired. They came to our apartment twice in the week. The cleaning consisted of a quick sweep of the floor, bins emptied, towels changed - oh and mirrors wiped.- and that was about it. The maids also came at odd hours - right up till early evening. On their first visit, they scared the bejesus out of us by ringing the bell at around 3pm and charging straight in. My husband had to stop one barging right in to the bathroom.(althought the door was closed - but not locked). They nearly caught me on the loo! We had a child's handprint on our glass door throughout our stay - obviously from a previous occupant. The restaurant in the apartment block was really nice. We had great food there. Lovely Canarian menu with Tapas and fresh fish. The chef takes the time to explain the menu and make recommendations. We would like to have stopped off at the complex bar on our way home of an evening, but it closed around 11.45 at night. We also had a great meal at The Lobster Pot in the mall across the road. Otherwise our evening meals were disappointing. Too many of the restaurants have menus for British people who want British food when they are away. Great quantity- but not great quality. I had a rubbery salmon fillet one night in "Country Kitchen". There is also entertainment each evening in the mall with singers and cabaret acts. Most were very good. The shops and restaurants were dead until after 8pm each night. However, everything shuts again at midnight. Some reviews mentioned the fishing village of Los Abrigos, which is about a 10 - 15 minute walk away. They failed to mention it is across a rough terrain where you might easily break your ankle in the dark. Fortunately, we did the walk in daylight and were rewarded with one of the best lunches of our holiday at a local restaurant where we both had grilled sardines, tuna, potatoes, bread, Canarian sauce and half carafe of wine for less than 20 euros. It was delicious. We did a "half day" trip (7.45am - 3.30pm - sounds like a day out to me!!) to Tiede. It wasn't a long journey - we just spent 90 minutes picking people up - but it WAS spectacular. Bear in mind, if you go, it's FREEZING up the top. Wind chill made the temperature -8 degrees! We had been advised to "take a cardigan". We're hardy Scots, but even we couldn't linger long at the top. It's over 12,000 feet, so the air is very thin too. We spent 90 mins queueing for the cable cars, but it was worth it. Back to Golf del Sur - We found a lot of the shop assistants and bar staff at the mall to be less than friendly. Even in "Friends" Bar - where we went most nights for a drink - the staff could hardly raise a smile. Although the clientele were friendly in there. Our weather was cloudy for 3 of the 7 days we were there - so that didn't help. Luckily our apartment had a TV on which we could get quite a few British Channels. There's not that much else to do locally. It's just a wee bit too isolated for us. In retrospect we should have hired a car. We couldn't make up our minds whether the resort was a bit decayed or under construction. There was a lot of waste ground or partially constructed buildings but with no work going on. Several shops and restaurants in the mall were closed down. There was a lot of litter lying around too. Overall it was not terribly picturesque. Sorry this is a moan, but we really were disappointed after the great reviews this place had."

"My husband and myself stayed at Sunset View Club and enjoyed one of the most relaxing holidays ever, the location is superb with most of the extremely well equipped apartments having sea views and all this a short 15 minutes transfer from the airport. There is an excellent pool with a smaller pool for children and also a jacuzzi, and the on site restaurant is excellent and has entertainment most nights, however there is a good selection of eating places and shops, entertainment, bank, doctor, supermarket etc just across the road. If you like chinese food we found The Great Wall of China (also just across the road) the best for food and also great service. Sunset View is a 15 minute bus journey from the busier resorts of Playa De Las Americas and also Los Christianos and cost around 3.5 euros return. The apartments are very well maintained and cleaned regularly by the friendly staff, the staff at reception are also very frienhdly and efficient and speak very good english and can provide with endless amounts of useful knowledge about the surrounding area, all in all an a great place to just chill out and certainly a place we will return to, in fact we have already booked a further stay at this resort for September this year, would highly recommend to anyone."

Great place - will return next year.
"Sunset View Club is a lovely place to stay. We travelled with 2 children, aged 18 months and 4 years. Stayed in a 1 bed apt which was spacious and bedroom had plenty of space for travel cot which they supplied also. Very friendly staff and cleaning ladies gave us plenty of towels etc. The resort is close to a few bars/restaurants/shops etc but if you want to venture further out of the Golf Del Sur then you will need to catch a bus or hire a car (which we did). Plenty of things to do in Tenerife - Loro Parque is a MUST for those with (Or even without) kids. We are definitely returning next year!!"

chill out zone
"We have just returned from a week at sunset view and a week was not enough. This is the place to go if you just want to chill out allthough you can go on outings if you want to. The whole place is fabulous very clean & well kept. There is a restaurant on site and over the road many restaurants to choose from with entertainment. Also if you want to eat in the very well equiped apartment there is a supermarket. It is very quiet except for the planes coming in to land, but we found this no bother and quite entertaining. The reception staff were marvelous and could not do enough to help us when we needed an extra day due to late departure. We will be going back as we have never had such a chilled holiday. I would recomend this for couples and families but if you want noise and nightlife go to las americas you can get a taxi easily. Pool and jakuzzi very very good."

Sunset View was perfect, we will return
"What a great choice we made on the back of the recommendations from Trip Advisor. We were looking for something with local entertainment for our 16 year old twins, my wife and I with some local sporting facilities and Golf Del Sur (The area Sunset View is located) served these up. Our One bed apartment was a good size with comfortable chairs, decent kitchen (plenty of utensils) and a 4 person balcony facing East (all aprtaments face east on both sides ofthe centrla walkway). All the rooms are within a short walk of the central pool/walkway and good sized swimming pool (about 20yards long and depths from 2m down to .4m) with seperate childrens pool and a spa - all of decent size. The shore is only 3 minutes walk but there is no beach useable in the area. The Sunset View restaurant we used once and the quality was excellent with very freindly service. Be aware that the Golf Del Sur is isolated from the main resorts of Los Cristianos and Las Americas but these are only a 15 minute drive along a motorway and bus services to and from these resorts are a few an hour so accessible without a car. We hired a car online and saved at least £30-40 for the week with Recordgo (they picked us up efficiently at the airport and there office is at the top of Golf Del Sur so only a 5 minute drive from Sunset View - very handy for our return as well). We used the Golf Del Sur Golf Club - played 9 holes one day and found the course very well presented and a good challenge however we are high handicappers) - including club hire (euro25 each) we paid euro110. The Golf Club were very friendly and also they have 3 tennis courts which were in excellent condition - we played every day for euro13 including 4 rackets and balls hire. This woudl be about a 20 minute walk from Sunset view uphill but our car was very handy in making this an easy trip. The local San Blas area of pubs, shops and night life is litterally on the doorstep, great selection of food types and all were very good; we very much enjoyed the value and quality of Wok Direct, a buffet chinese with a difference fo how you choose your ingredients (very Mongolian style of raw ingredients selected and then made with the sauce of your choice; 4 of us ate well for under euro 80 including drinks). Be aware there are no 'clubs' or disco's so this is not for teenagers looking for late night revelling! The local area you will walk in less than 2 early mornings so do not expect expansive acces like the main resorts. If you chose Sunset View you will not be disappointed. Be aware of the travel needs for other activities but for a quiet holiday with local facilities then it met our needs and some. The car was a big bonus (we even travelled across the country to the north which took less than 3 hours including lots of stops for pictures. It took us 55 minutes to come back from Puerto De La Cruz by motorway). If you want more extensive walking areas and restaurants then Los Cristianos is the place to go. The Safari Square (on top of a large shopping complex) served us two nights with superb steaks at very reasonable prices). This area has extensive pubs and sea front walks but is VERY commercial - not for us for a full holiday."

great place for a quiet holiday!
"We have just returned from a week's stay at the Sunset View Club. The apartments are convieniantly located 10 mins from airport so no long transferes. I think a lot of the apartments are time shares, the people staying there are a bit more inclined to look after the place. It was very quiet when we went, there were just a few kids but they were'nt making much noise or anything so was quite relaxing. The only down side was that the apartments are right on the flight path so every half hour or so u get a plane going over!! u kind of get used to it though and there was very few if any night flights so its not as if u get woken up by the planes or anything! They are very clean and friendly place to stay, the girl that works on reception is very helpful and very cheery!! The pool although we didnt use it, it well maintained and clean and there are plenty of beds for everyone. The pool attendant is english i think and is always very happy and cheery too. The apartments are well equipted for cooking, u have a 4 ring hob, microwave, toaster, brevill toastie maker, kettle, fridge and all usual utensils, so if u prefer staying in and cooking then the facilities are pretty good. The apartments which are on the road side get the sun from about 12 oclock onwards so if u r a bit of a sun worshipper then its ideal. Golf del sur itself it a good area to stay in for a bit of a chilled out week, its not as busy as the major resorts but there are still a few restraunts and bars to go to for meals and drinks. For a taxi into las americas u pay about 20 euro for a local but we meet an english taxi driver who works for himself n he took us for 14 euro to las americas and 10 for the airport. If u email him n let him no ure flight number he will pick u up at the airport. I've got his email address and mobile number if anyone wants it just send me a message n i'll let u no, I cant post it on here. In las americas there is a really good chinese, next to a wigan bar and a rangers bar called bobbins bar. Its in torviscas which is a street at the far end of las americas. its really good, the buffet is freshly cooked and has excellent selection no need to have food from menu as most of it is on buffet. There are also some nice restraunts on the beach front, not the ones on ground level but above that. We had some really nice paella in one, all freshly cooked seafood and not too expensive. A HUGE recommendation is to go to Adeje, its a wee village not far from Golf del sur. There is a small restraunt called 'The Oasis', it doesnt look like much more than a cafe but is FAB. They only serve 1 thing, chicken, chips, bread and salad. The chicken is amazing!!! u wont get it anywhere else in tenerife, this is the only place that sells it, but get there early as if u arrive after 1 oclock there will be a queue! all the locals come here especially on a sunday and it is packed!!! for the meal for 2 with 2 beers i think it was only about 20 euro."

A Great Place To Relax In The Sun!
"We have just returned from another trip to Sunset View, Golf Del Sur, in sunny Tenerife. We have been to Sunset View a few times over the last few years and have always had a good time. We go there literally to just chill out round the pool and relax with a view to going out for dinner in the evening and having a few drinks. If you are looking for somewhere that has a busy and lively night life then this is probably not the place for you. All the nightlife is a few miles along the coast at Los Christianos and Las Americas. As per the name this is a popular place for golfers and also those who are retired. I would estimate that at least half of the apartments on the site are privately owned and alot of the apartments are let out privately. We stay in a one bedroom apartment which has a lounge/kitchen and bathroom with shower. It is comfortable and spacious for two and has a patio that leads onto a small garden with a sea view. Most apartments have a sea view and others have a patio that leads straight onto the pool area. There is satellite tv with all the terrestrial channels available if you can't bear to miss out on the soaps! There is a restaurant (Tacos) attached to the reception and is open all day except on Sunday. The food is very good (specialises in Canarian cuisine) and in our opinion is the best in the area. It is reasonably priced and the evening menu is varied. On certain nights there is entertainment which is very funny and worth checking out. In addition to this the chef takes the time to speak to all the diners at the start of the evening and gives you the option where he will create a meal for you based on what your tastes and likes are. All of the staff are extremely helpful and provide an excellent quality of service. They all speak excellent English and most of the restaurant staff are English. The lifeguard (John) is also English and speaks fluent Spanish. He has been there for a few years and is exceptionally helpful and efficient. He is a real credit to Sunset View. The entire complex is well maintained and kept up to a high standard. The pool is a good size and there is also a jacuzzi outside. Opposite the complex is a large square which has lots of restaurants and a few bars. There are also other restaurants off the square and a few souvenir shops. There is a small supermarket as well. All these places are literally just over the road from the complex! The food is ok and the beer is cheap. You always get service with a smile and we would recommend an Italian restaurant called 'La Strada'. However we did have a bad experience in 'Gullivers' restaurant and would not recommend this place. I ordered a burger and found a piece of metal in it! We did not even get an apology just the price of the burger knocked off the bill! And the fizzy drink was flat! If you are looking for more local food the you will have to go further afield. To sum up - it is a great place to go and relax. If you want to get out and see places hire a car. Family friendly but probably better suited to older people. Not the place for you if you are after nightlife."

"I have just got back from the best ten days relaxation holiday I have ever had. I went with my Fiance, Sister and brother-in-law and we satyed at the sunset view apartments, which were superb. The pool and areas within the complex were always spotless with everyone so friendly and the area itself was lovely. There were plenty of restraunts to choose from. We reccomend Gulliver's, La Strada, Country Kitchen and Arcadia did very nice breakfasts, Lobster pot for something special howver book early to avoid dissapointment! Do not go to La opera, it was cheap and cheerful food with not very good quality. The boys went to three golf courses, golf del sur, Amarillas and they were all different but said Las Americas golf was the best! Overall what a top holiday and we would all thoroughly reccomend this place to anyone. It really felt like we were at home, so much so were thinking of buying our own apartment out there!"
