"My family and I spent two weeks at the San Blas reserve last year and loved every minute of it.
The value for money was fantastic, excellent food, excellent service from all staff and excellent facilities. To be honest I can't speak highly enough of the place and have in fact recommended it to several of my good friends who have also gone and loved it too.
My advice would be book now - don't hesitated - you won't regret it !"

Very Nice Hotel

"This is a big hotel, 300+ rooms. When we stayed there must have been no more that 60 people staying so it was very quite. There are abou5 salt water pools with plenty of sunbeds and lots of room. Someday my wife and I actually had a whole pool to ourselves.

The rooms are nice an big with large comfy beds and the bathrooms are very nicely appointed. Most of the rooms overlook the pools that run donw the centre and are angled so you have a view of the sea. The beach outside the hotel is hopeless, rocks and very rough. We had to change rooms the first night as the airconditioning failed, then the door handle broke on the second room and we couldn't close the door and then the handle to the shower room dropped off so not sure if this hotel will age quickly (Only Opened Dec 08)

The staff were all fantastic and are the best thing about the hotel. ALL of the staff were friendly and helpful even when their English was poor (STill better than my Spanish though).

The downside is the quality of the food in the buffet at breakfast and Dinner. The food was often cold, particularly the vegetables but there was a huge range. Now maybe as the hotel was vitually empty that may explain why the veggies got cold but for a 4+ star hotel that isnt very good. I am not normall a fussy eater but both my wife and I did find the food a bit tasteless and bland. The pool bar food was good for lunch and we didn't try the seperate ala carte.

The hotel is very close to the airport and is directly under the flight path. You can almost reach up and touch them as they take off and land. This isn't as big a problem as it sounds as the airport isnt very busy but if it was it would definately get annoying.

So I would probably not go back as I do think they need to sort out the buffet food and if the place was full it would be too busy for my taste."

"We walked into this hotel and booked in for the final 3 nights of our holiday after slumming it in a supposedly 4* hotel in Costa Adeje (it was more like a 2/3*). We are so glad we did. The San Blas is an amazing place. I just couldn't get over the rooms when I walked in, we had two rooms with connecting doors for the kids (13 & 8). Absolutely Luxury. The staff are so friendly and pleasant, they can't do enough for you and always with a smile. No more fighting for sunbeds in the morning - just take your pick. If we could have changed our flights we would have stayed for an extra couple of nights because we just didn't want to leave."

"we stayed in room 267 for one week from 16th march.
as with other reviews overall is definately five star and hotel achieves eco status as well - it is sloped down over four levels and blends in perfectly unlike the vincinni golf which is now a blot on the landscape.
service from check-in to leaving is first class without being all over you.
rooms are cleaned to an exceptionally high standard and you are asked daily if you are satisfied.
pool areas/sunbeds/facilities are also good.
we went half board and as stated some good deals to be had just now -
breakfast/dinner considering it is buffet is fantastic .
no charge for safe and overall costs even against the euro are more than reasonable.
couple of negatives as you would expect.
booked through internet which was 300 euros cheaper than the official website which i found strange.
it states access onto beach which is slightly misleading - it is full of stones/ very little beach and sea is choppy - not suitable for children.
planes as said if taking off can be a bit of a pain as it is very near the airport.
had a couple of issues at lunch re food not heated properly but need to stress it was only at lunch for some reason.
i raised this with the hotel and action taken was swift as you would hope.
overall a great/relaxing week in fantastic surroundings - it will only get better and we will most certainly be back."

"It's not often nowadays you get the 5 star wow factor at the same time as tremendous value for money. This does it. More or less everything is faultless. Al the facilities are immaculately maintained by unbelievably friendly and courteous staff. If you want a bit of luxury, peace and quiet while feeling like treated like royalty this is it. It's everything and more and you will not be disappointed. They are doing tremendous deals at the moment. Take them while they last.

"We received a glass of champagne on our arrival, and it all went uphill from there!

The hotel is still ramping up to full operation/capacity (launching fully in May 2009 I believe?), so is quiet. There was definitely no problem getting a well located sun lounger by the pool, or even one of the "love seats".

The main pool was heated, with an adjoining snack bar (with a cool volcano shaped roof), and there were a number of other unheated pools that were very quiet (except perhaps the one beside the sports facilities) if you wanted some peace. All pools seemed to contain salt water.

The Tenerife Sur / Reine Sofia airport is nearby, and you will hear/see the planes, but it didn't really bother us, and if you're a plane spotter you'll love it. The noise is generally less when they are coming in to land (which, given the prevailing winds, is more common) than if they are taking off. The rooms are not sound-proofed so you may hear some planes from the room, but they didn't disrupt our sleep at all.

There was a widescreen TV in the room (through all the channels supplied seemed to be in the old-fashioned 4:3 aspect ratio, rather than 16:9 widescreen). There were spanish channels, plus UK (BBC1, etc.), Russian, French, etc.

The bathroom had an unusual experimental design but poor usuability. It had an outer glass-walled area (without a door, but with movable wooden panels to cover the glass walls) containing a bath and 2 wash basins, and 2 separate rooms off this (with frosted glass doors) for the toilet/bidet and shower. But the toilet door has a gap around the edge, allowing noises/smells(!)/etc. to escape. To obtain privacy when using the toilet, you have to pull the panels closed around the glass walls of the bathroom, and then close the toilet door. All this can cause noise & disturbance if, for example, you are going to the toilet in the middle of the night, and this may disturb your partner.

The breakfast buffet was very good, with excellent service from the friendly staff. There was Cava for those who wished to indulge, though I didn't like the taste of the particular type on offer.

There is a range of sporting & leisure facilities: a small spa, a full basketball court, beach volleyball, a climbing wall, tennis & mini-tennis courts.

The room included a safe and (wired) broadband at no extra charge.

For dining nearby, it's a short walk/drive to Los Abrigos or Golf del Sur, though we found nicer restaurants in El Medano, which is a 10 minute drive up the coast."

Great looking resort, spacious, nice rooms, friendly staff, great nature surrounding it, good facilities, great restaurant, more then enough pools and design chairs. The only problem we had was to leave after only one week in this place!"

"Have you ever wondered how royals experience holidays? Well, San Blas gives you the opportunity to come close.
The hotel only recently opened its doors (December 2008) and as a consequence the hotel is not yet fully booked. When we stayed there during the beginning of March, there were only 20 to 30 guests which combined with the very spacious grounds and different spots to hide away, gives you an unvaluable feel of exclusivity (compare this to other hotels with 200 people packed around a pool). Staff was exceptionally friendly and courteous, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. This goes for reception staff, restaurant staff to room maid, all make you feel very much welcome.

Landscaping is very beautifull, water being a common element throughout the hotel, from the very unique waterfall in the courtyard to the several swimmingpools which seem to flow into one another. This is definitely not just "another resort", but a place which has been thoughtfully conceived to please.

We ate twice in the "a la carte restaurant" and food was excellent, something not to be taken for granted in large hotels neither. The a la carte restaurant is tastefully decorated and surrounded by water (again). There are 2 good local restaurants in Los Abrigos (a small village 500 meters walking from the hotel) at the far end of the quay which serve delicious fresh daily catches.

All in all, our stay exceeded largely our expectations and we would definitely recommend this hotel."

"This is a brand new hotel (opened in December) and could be said to be undertaking a soft opening. Most (but not all) the facilities are completed, however there are very few guests. There was evidence of marketing to the travel trade during the weekend of our stay. Overall these means the attention of the staff is outstanding and the are both extremely friendly and very efficient. They are also very well trained. Obviously they will be busier as the hotel fills up but with staff of this quality the service should remain excellent.

The bedrooms are superb being both fresh and bright. They are also of a reasonable size and this is further improved by the adoption of the growing trend of a glass walled bathroom. This can be screened completely if you want a little privacy but the shower and wc etc are in separate areas with frosted glass doors.

Most public facilities are functioning including all seven pools, boating lake, buffet restaurant, small but well equipped gym, two pool side bars/restaurants and general public areas. The al la carte restaurant (by the beach) and spa area are in the final stages of completion, so there is some building work. This is not obtrusive and it is easy to get away from if you want. Other public areas are complete

The hotels seems to have a high number of sun loungers so even at peak times these should be sufficient. There are also a small number of round loungers with canopies for two - which will probably be much in demand.

There are good sports facilities including a tennis court, short tennis, five a side pitch, volleyball and a climbing wall. A small activities team run these and other events such as aerobics, wine tasting and even plane spotting.

The overall quality of finishes and workmanship is high. The pools look particularly good. Rather than being the normal vibrant blue the have the look of cool grey slate which is both sophisticated and soothing.

The most unique feature of the hotel is the San Blas Eco reserve at the front of the hotel - a guided tour of which was include free in our stay. This tells the story of the people of Tenerife and is a wonderful experience. We thoroughly enjoyed this in the company of an excellent, knowledgeable guide. There is also an interactive display room as part of the tour and an audio visual presentation. A story tunnel is also under construction.

The hotel is close to the airport, which means taxi transfer costs are low. If you are outside there is some aircraft noise but with the quietness of modern aircraft is not a problem. We heard no aircraft noise whilst in the bedroom.

This is a quality hotel and whilst the atmosphere with only a few guests was lacking, it still gave a very relaxing short break"

Gorgeous Hotel, with some issues

"As this hotel opened in December 2008, there were very few reviews to look at in deciding whether to come. We also experienced a lot of "start-up pains" as there was on-going construction and finish up work, which distracted somewhat from the experience. The advertised WiFi internet was not operating, although they did quickly get us running on the wired ethernet. Several of the a ala carte restaurants were also not yet open. The "nightly entertainment, " a show or animation which we discovered takes place in the disco, also has not yet started. There is definitely a "not quite there" feel, also as it was rather sparse with guests.

The marketing of the hotel is very clever - as it is associated with a nature reserve - but this is a bit misleading. In fact, the hotel is located only 1 km south of the runway of the Tenerife South airport - you can clearly see the berm at the end of the runway form the hotel - and is almost directly on the approach pattern of all the landing flights. There are also relatively new golf and housing developments on both sides of the hotel.

So if you are looking for isolation and complete tranquility, this is NOT the place to come, with a steady stream of charter planes crossing the sky above the hotel, reversing their thrusters just prior to landing. You also get some noise from jets taking off.....

The hotel itself is beautiful and our suite is spectacular, with a nice view of the ocean. It is uniquely laid out, almost like a small village with different buildings and interesting passageways tunnels, etc. All the building material is volcanic. The various pools are very nice (though a bit cold, except for one), and spectacularly lit at night. My 13 year old son loved running around the complex, but there are some dangerous aspects, with openings to the tunnels or walkways below - take care for small children. There is also a small artificial lake for which you can take small boats or a kayak.

The beach is not very inspiring - you have to cross a small street, and there are a few forlorn chairs and umbrellas - but it does not look like the pictures on the web site. It is all volcanic rock, a bit forbidding, with huge surf.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the buffet restaurant has excellent food, with several chefs to cook the main courses fresh for you.

In short, it is a very nice hotel, and we enjoyed our experience - though the jet traffic was a distraction. It will probably be nicer when it is completely finished and more active with guests. But the marketing was a bit misleading, so our expectations were higher."

"If you want to feel Pampered, Relaxed,Special and Close to nature this is the place to be. My wife and I spent two glorious weeks in San Blas Reserva Ambiental. This hotel had just opened its doors to the public when we arrived and though the guests were few, the treatment by staff, the excellent cuisine and the choice of swimming pools made up for any lack of "people atmosphere". Not to mention the luxurious suite we stayed in. We left behind the cold winter of Ireland and thought we had landed in Heaven. Thats how I can describe our stay in San Blas. A guided tour of the Nature Reserve is a must. It takes one back to the days of the Guanches and those times are re-enacted by actors as you travel through the reserve. I could go on and on about our wonderful experiences but all I can say is "Go there!) You won't regret it. This Hotel certainly deserves its Five Star Rating. We will be returning to San Blas many more times in the future."
