"This is a strange hotel in as much as the staff are superb, all are friendly (bar one grumpy female on reception!!) the location is fine, a little out of the way but easy to get to the main venue's. But for us it felt just too big and impersonal, the dining room is huge, extremely noisy and lacks atmosphere. The mass catering for so many make it feel like a works canteen, wonderful choice of foods (a bit tepid) but seemed to lack a little care.
Main bar is interwoven with, entertainment, that you cant hear because television area, coffee bar and sitting area, are all mingled in same area together, just too much noise from each to make any comfortable. Perhaps its better when the hotel isn't full?
The rooms are big, more than adequate, we booked a family room with sea/mountain view, a bit of a "loose" description you can see both (just ) but the main view was a huge brick wall and apartment roof's. The courtyards looks like just a mass of corridors and doors (cell block H). But everything is clean, and room cleaning exceptional. WiFi is poor, very hit and miss, but free towels and water a bonus, and no one minds you taking drinks back to your room. All in all a decent hotel that looses out big time by feeling so impersonal. However, WELL DONE staff, you try hard with what you have got. "

"Great all inclusive hotel, staff very friendly & helpful. Animation team were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble & they kept the children entertained. Pool areas lovely, plenty of sun beds & reservations not allowed before 8am, if you leave your towels before then they will be removed by security! Riu land kids club was well organized & cratered for our 5&7 year old. Restaurant had plenty of choice, only criticism is that there was no vegetarian main courses so meals were a bit cobbled together but still plenty to eat. The themed restaurant is quieter than the main restaurant however there s no table service here either. Room was huge, we had a senior suite, sea view with 2ensuite bedrooms, living area and 2 large balconies with chairs tables & sunbeds. Everything was very clean & well maintained. Bars had self service areas for soft drinks and lager as well as the served main bars where you could get the usual cocktails, spirits, beers and wines. The local resort Playa Paraiso was very small & quiet however we had little need to go into the resort . Hotel will organize any trips for you at reception, we went to Aqua Land which was great. Overall our family had a wonderful week here and would recommend to others without hesitation. "

"Having holidayed with the Rui Hotel chain before we did not expect a lot from this hotel. Upon arrival they upgraded us to a sea view villa on the front was lovely, especially with 2 bathrooms and 2 double bedrooms. Rooms were clean and maid was very helpful if needed anything extra. Having stayed in Mexico last year our friends commented on the rooms being a lot cleaner and less bugs.
This hotel is value for money and the kids enjoyed it. Travelled with a 6 and 8 year old who have been to Rui clubs for last 4 years. Kids club tends to be more indoors run inside the hotel where as other clubs have done a mixture of sports and indoors, but then again not bad to keep them out of the sun for a few hours. Kids disco was held outside every evening but get there early as all out door seating goes very quickly.
Food is mainly in the buffet restaurant or outside restaurant on the seafront. Food good quality especially the freshly cooked. The different food nights in the seafront restaurant okay but not the best we've had for choice over the years, plus one particular manager hurried us as strict on times. However they were great when we organised a cake for my daughter's 7th Birthday, putting flowers on the table, bringing the cake over and singing to her. Overall we stuck mostly to buffet restaurant.
Pool area large but lots of sun beds, need to get your sun loungers before you go to breakfast (tip).
Resort not much there did hire a car and go down the coast but as been to Tenerife many times before did not really bother venturing out of hotel. Not much in this resort, Costa Adeje a lot better if you like to venture out.
Overall for a week with kids over half term we had a better than expected experience at this Clubhotel, not one of the best Rui's but we certainly found it excellent value for money, and great if you want to chill out for a week in the sun. If you want five star than it won't be good enough but for a value for money holiday with kids, defo worth it."

"Just returned from a a week with a small group of friends and although we had a fabulous holiday I can only say that this place left me extremely disappointed.

I have stayed at RIU Vistamar Gran Canaria and RIU Cancun Mexico in the last two years so I thought I knew what to expect from the RIU group. In fact I persuaded my friends to pay a little bit extra to stay at a RIU as I was so impressed by the ones I had stayed at before. Unfortunately this is a Hotel that has been taken over by the RIU group and it shows.

Building itself is lovely, spacious, clean and impressive. Pool areas great, no issues with sunbeds, and staff are unbelievable friendly and helpful all over.

Entertainment team try their best and do a good job of running the usual poolside and daytime stuff. Evening is a bit hit and miss, starting at 21:15 there is a 'show' of some description which is typical holiday stuff some Ok some not so good, but I dont really expect to much or go for this!

BUT......

Rooms although lovely spacious and very clean are extremely sparsely furnished. Hardly any storage areas and a bit of a strange layout.

Food was very average. The restaurant is more like a canteen and very noisy. If you are late, you can go into the 'overspill bit' which claims to have the same food but it isnt quite the same and its not well looked after or restocked. You wont go hungry there is something for everybody but its more or less the same every meal - some kind of meat, (usually pork) fish or chicken pieces just grilled and laid out with lots of different accompaniments and a huge salad bar. By day 5 I was so bored of it I wanted to eat out which I did!

Although I am not that into entertainment usually provided its nice to have a nice main area - this hotel offres a Salon Bar which is like a dungeon hidden away under one of the accomodation blocks. Its not the most endearing of places and you wouldnt hang around after the show - unlike the large impressive areas in some hotels.

No disco or anything and ALL bars close at midnight so dont expect anything later than this.

The resort is an absolute joke. Its the typical stereotypical 'building site' views. To walk to the 'strip' which consists a couple of dodgy shops and a few bars takes 10 mins. You can walk from the back of the hotel along a path and
the coast and its quite nice OR you walk out the front of the hotel and along the road past two building sites and what appears to be a mini effluent plant (it stinks).

So within the hotel its picture postcard views but outside its not nice at all. We hired a car and got out and about a bit so unless you are happy to stay by the pool for a week its very remote!

So in summary RIU service and cleanliness completely, lovely building and great pools with gorgeous views inside the hotel, BUT very average repetitive food, sparsly furnished rooms and a dead and frankly horrible resort with buildng site views.

In my opinion not to standards experienced at other RIU hotels so will not return or reccomend to anybody.

"Our party of 3 adults upgraded to senior suite, which was well worth the money. The room was fantastic, up on the 4th floor overlooking the sea. It had 2 large en-suite bedrooms, a living room, and an extra loo. Unlike other Riu hotels we have stayed in, the rooms were not carpeted, so being on the 4th floor, it sometimes became very noisy with guests dragging chairs along the tiled floor, 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning! There were large wardrobes in the bedrooms, but unfortunately, no drawer space for your "smalls", you had to use what little space over in the wardrobe for this. This hotel was a Dunas before, and obviously Riu didn't bother to include the extra furniture when this hotel was taken over in November. The usual safety deposit box and fridge were included with the all inclusive booking. The day we arrived it had been raining, but we decided to explore the grounds of the hotel, mainly the pool area, only we wished we didn't, as one of us almost slipped over and fell twice, due to the grounds being slightly hilly, it became very dangerous, and we could of easily broken an arm or a leg on our first day. Any older guests wouldn't of stood a chance. The pool area was cleaned every morning, and because we had to walk through the area to get to the dining room, again it was very dangerous with no warning signs in sight. There are 2 pools, one heated and plenty of sun loungers to choose from even later in the day. We have stayed in a few all inclusive Riu hotels, but this one has to have the worst food out of them all. There were no "sittings", the dining for the evening meal was 6.30pm until 9.30pm. The food was absolutely awful, pork was on the menu EVERY night, the soups all tasted the same, although they were hot, the choice of food was not up to a four star hotel. You didn't have a set seat, so it was a free for all, nobody even checked you were staying in the hotel, or wearing a wristband. The choice of food was a disgrace, the same desserts every night, cakes in different colours, baked apples, and the usual cheese selection. There was also a huge problem with flies, they were everywhere, especially hanging around the wine barrel, which you help yourself to, the food just lay there, with the flies having a feast. One evening, we caught one of the waiters spraying a fly can over in one of the food bars! The fresh fruit selection was non existent, banana, apple, orange and if you were lucky the odd pear and kiwi thrown in a couple of days. The breakfast food was no better either, catering mainly for the Germans, sprouts and ham every morning. I like cereal with hot milk, most mornings the milk was stoned cold, had to use the microwave to heat it up. The bread for the toast was stale EVERY day, we were almost sure they were putting out yesterdays bread each morning. Unlike other Riu hotels, there was no freshly squeezed juice on offer, we had it once in the whole fortnight, otherwise, cheap cordial out of the machine. There was always a queue for the hot water, only two machine's going for the whole restaurant. The snack bar in the afternoons was supposed to be serving food from 12.30, this never happened, every day it was 12.50 onwards, burgers toasties and hot dogs all getting molested by flies, and hardly anything was topped up during the day. The evening entertainment room was very poorly laid out. There were posts in just about every chair you sat in, so you couldn't get a decent view for the stage unless you sat way at the back. The bar was awful, one waiter serving the whole night, you couldn't get any branded spirit drinks either. The entertainment team were excellent, they really put on a good show getting the audience involved and trying their best. The location of this hotel is way off the beaten track, a fifteen min walk would take you to Playa Paraiso centre, about 3 bars and a couple of small supermarkets. A taxi to Las Americas was 20 euro's each way, so not much to do really but spend all your money on taxi's! I think this hotel needs a really good Riu shake up, if it had all the Riu touches, and you don't mind being in the middle of nowhere, I think this hotel would have great potential. It was a huge let down for us, having stayed in other 4 star Riu hotels."

The level of cleanliness high and the food brilliant. It is however a quite area, but the hotel had everything we required. For those wanting to get out and about, there is a courtesy bus from the hotel to take you into Las Americas at specified times during the day. Our room was a standard twin with a stunning mountain view, however, if we were to return, then no doubt we would upgrade by paying that little bit extra, booking accommodation in one of the hotel's sea view suites (excellent)."

From the moment we arrived until the minute we left, the staff at the hotel were absolutely fantastic. They were helpful, courteous, polite and never without a smile, day or night. The food and drink, again, superb. What we found very refreshing was the cleanlness of the hotel, rooms, pool area, in fact the whole complex is spotless any given time of the day. My wife and I have never been abroad before, but we feel we were lucky to have stayed at such a beautiful place for our first time away. I would be happy to recommend the Riu Buena Vista to anyone and wouldnt hesitate in going back there. On another plus, its a very short taxi ride to some theme parks, including, Aqualand, with dolphins (needs a refurb though), jungle world, fantastic and the cream of the crop.....Siam Park ........... an absolute must if your in Tenerife!"

"My husband and I took a short break (5 days) at the Riu Buena Vista at the beginning of December and wished we had booked to stay longer.

I'm not going to say everything about this hotel was perfect, but all in all it was very good value for money and we really enjoyed our stay.

To start with we didn't get the usual "welcome drink" when we arrived. However, the receptionist did suggest that we put our cases is the store room and rush in for lunch before the restaurant closed - so we did get lunch as soon as we arrived and then checked into our room after.

I had booked a sea view suite and the room we were originally given wasn't what I would class as a "sea view room" - although you could just about see the sea if you craned your neck over the balcony. My husband spoke to the reception staff and they moved us to a fantastic room which had a full sea view without any quibble.

The suites are very nice - two separate rooms, a full bathroom with bath, wc and separate shower and a 2nd separate toilet. Our balcony was huge with a table and chairs and sunbeds.

The range of drinks included in the "all inclusive" deal were good and the only time we had plastic cups was when we were in the pool area which of course is at it should be.

The food in the restaurant was varied and of a reasonably good standard. It will never win anyone a michelin star but there was a good choice every day and it was hot. Breakfast was by far the best meal of the day.

The one disappointment was the theme restaurant for which you had to make a booking. We chose the Italian night and to be honest I could have cooked better Italian food myself. We had hoped that as the restaurant had to be booked, it would have been full waiter service but it was really just the same as the buffet restaurant except there was far less choice and the food wasn't good at all.

There was entertainment every night and from what we saw it was probably slightly better than a lot of hotels.

The pool area at the hotel is really good although there are too many sun beds crammed into the terrace areas. When we arrived at the hotel we were told that it is absolutely forbidden to reserve sun beds - we were also handed an information leaflet about the hotel and that also stressed that sun-beds were not to be reserved - but as usual, its the same old story - you get up in the morning and the same beds are reserved every day by people that don't turn up until about 11am - and what gets done about it - absolutely nothing. There were more than enough sun beds to go round and it was not necessary to do this.

The hotel is large and depending on where your room is you could end up having to walk a fair distance to the reception and restaurant areas.

We found all the staff we spoke to at the hotel to be very pleasant and helpful. The hotel itself was absolutely spotless and the rooms were cleaned very well every day and the sheets and towels changed regularly.

We would definitely return and indeed plan to do so."

"Our fourth time at this hotel in the last 2 years - only the first since Riu took it over just over a month or so ago.
We wrote a review last Jan (2007) after our first stay and we can honestly say we have never been disappointed here.
Some marked improvements by Riu very noticeable and reading a couple of recent reviews it looks like Riu are identifying and altering areas where some guests may have expressed concerns or discontent.
Checked in very late at night (almost midnight) to a very warm welcome from the guy on reception who told us that there was food plated up and waiting for us in the main restaurant - what a super touch !
We found the staff as friendly as ever - I do wonder when I read reports of the staff here being impersonal - they are great with only the odd exception which you'd find anywhere. Staff are only human and do respond to how they are treated at the end of the day - our vote for them is 9 out of 10.
The food was as good as ever - (read our previous review).
The Chinese and Italian nights are well worth doing - food good and plentiful - and the wine we found to be more than acceptable - it is only table wine when you've done and said all - it's not Chateaux bottled !!!!
The Main hotel bar has now ceased it's charging policy and was without doubt the most popular and busy part of the hotel during the evenings. They serve some really good cocktails as well as the usual drinks offer.
The entertainment programme is lots better than it was and we saw it improving daily.
The management of Riu were ever present and casting critical eyes over all aspects of their operation and evidently discussing proposed improvements with staff at all levels.
All in all, as our title says - the good is getting better - we are already looking at dates to go back early in the New Year - well done and good luck Riu - thanks for a great weeks holiday !!!!!"

"We stayed in the Buena Vista from 4th November.... I am a really big fan of Riu have stayed in there hotels in Mexico, Cuba and other Canary Islands.... I feel that given more time they will turn this hotel around.
Facilities excellent, spacious rooms...although I feel that some of the sea view rooms are an exaggeration...we had an 8th floor room at the rear of the hotel...you could see the sea between 2 other hotels but your immediate view was rubble and building works...this did ruin our holiday a little because we requested pool / sea view... standard suite.. and paid extra...when I questioned the room I was told in a very off hand manner that we would have to pay extra for a pool/sea view...the Riu website leads you to believe that all the rooms have good views.
Reception staff ... pretty serious lot...pleasantries not their speciality...questions and requests appeared to 'bother them'...would not consider changing our room without additional payment, I wasn't prepared to pay again for something we were lead to believe we already had..all other staff fine.
Pools good ..the heated one is nice temp for time of year.
Food getting better, the Chinese / Italian resturant very good. The main resturant needs to label food, plenty of choice but it would have been nice to know exactly whats on offer. Resturant ...if only they would serve coffee to the tables in the morning, guests would be out of the dining room at least 30 min earlier..the queue for the coffee machines were awful and the staff couldn't keep up with replenishing the contents. Tables need set as opposed to guests runing around looking for cutlery etc.
Look ..good hotel .. should be excellent hotel...if Riu work on the service etc. I was dissapointed but I expect very high standards from this group...I suppose it's just too early in the day yet.
I hope staff especially reception staff work on their interpersonal skills.
Animation ok...professional shows good.
Resort...hardly exists probably due to the hotels being all inclusive, but the free bus or 20 euro each way taxis are available to take you into Las Americas.
Weather excellent, company good so all in all 3.5 out of 5."
