Gran Oasis Resort
90 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Having had the resort recommended by my wife's parents, 15 people (including my inlaws, so spanning 3 generations) spent 14 nights at this BRILLIANT resort. 7 of our night were as a result of the disruption due to the volcanic eruption.
During the "stress free" first week we all had a great time. Nice, comfortable apartment style rooms, good selection of food (we stayed All Inclusive), frienly helpful staff, great pools. In fact the Reception staff, the Animacion team, the Catering staff, the Restaurant staff and the Bar staff were ALL wonderful. It was everything we wanted from a holiday. Then, during our extended stay (the stressful week), the hotel and staff could not do enough for us and helped reduce the strees associated with the disruption we experienced. We had to pay for our extra nights (hopefully our carrier will reimburse us ???) but the hotel did not exploit the situation and the rates they gave us were very reasonable.
We met some wonderful people during our stay and the spirit of all the guests during the delays to flights was great. We hope all we met eventually got home safely. We wish to meet some of them again either back at home or when we visit this superb resort next year. This is now one of my favourite places to stay, and we have an annual holiday to the Caribbean!"

A Lovely Stay For Anyone
"We were very nervous about staying here after reading some dodgy reviews, but thankfully, we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were very helpful and smiley. There are themed nights at the restaurant 3/4 times a week, including BBQ & Italian. Being a fussy eater, I stuck to salads all week, but there were always plenty varieties of meats and cheeses available to make it more interesting. My boyfriend, the open minded one, got stuck into everything and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was ideal. A nice kitchen, balcony, big bedroom, on suite. Cleaned everyday with fresh towels and sheets. The pool was clean with plenty of beds. Daily activities like water polo or aqua aerobics and if you're there at the right time, you may get to sample the fruit the staff hand out while you're sunbathing. There's something on every night. A kids disco followed by a variety of entertainment e.g. Snake shows, Quizzes, Cabarets etc. The bar is open all day until midnight, with plenty of choice. The beach and the nightlife is a short cab ride away (about 15 euros).
Overall, we were looking for a nice couples getaway, and got exactly what we wanted. There were plenty of families with children who seemed to be having an equally wonderful time."

lovely complex friendly staff lovely holiday
"just got back from 5 days at this complex had a lovely time. gonna book for the new year break. the complex is away from the main town but with young children that was fine. taxis always outside 5 euros into town if needed. we went all inclusive the food was non-stop from breakfast, fruit by the pool, toastie sandwiches, lunch, afternoon cakes icecream and then evening meal. we did go into town one teatime/evening for dinner just for a change and also to see the town and beach. we stayed in a one bedroom apartment which had a downstairs to it with the main bedroom and bathroom and upstairs with the kitchen and sitting area and had two put me up beds there. (this wasnt a problem) and two lovely balconies was very clean (no ants). cleaner had 1 day off and was in every day apart from that .man always cleaning outside the paths and watering all the lovely plants and flowers. lovely clean pools lots of sunbeds (watch out for the early towel people)! we always went to the pool around 10am and always got sunbeds. evening entertainment was ok kids were more interested in the games room! dont think this would be ok for disabled people lots of steps to other apartments on the hilly part. i would recommend to ask for apartments by the pool when booking. all in all had a good rest and are booking our next stay here. met some lovely people and so did the children. there was a great water park 5 minutes in cab way and also a zoo/sea life park about hour away we didnt visit but people had said they were really good. staff were very helpful safe deposit box by reception."

Excellent staff and restaurant food.
"Have just returned from 1 week at this hotel, read reviews before going so was a bit worried about how we would get on! Yes it is about 1/2 hr walk from playa de las americas but this is all downhill or flat on the way down back up is a bit different!! There are alot of steps in the hotel but there are ramps all around as well. The food is excellent in this hotel, at first you think the food area is small but the chefs are bringing fresh food out all the time. They quite often cook food while u wait as well.
There was 1 heated pool but this got quite busy as the big pool was very cold. The rooms were big but could do with some maintenance and updating. All in all a good holiday."

Paradise At The Oasis!
""We found our accomodation superb, it was clean, spacious with ceiling fans in both bedrooms and lounge, the whole complex was constantly being cleaned and hosed down and was generally well kept. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and helpful. We took the advantage and paid for all-inclusive and were so pleased we did as the food was plentiful and of a good standard. There was a bus supplied by the hotel twice a day for free which took you to the local beach. The complex probably has one down side to it which was the amount of steps to your apartment if you are elderly or have any disabilty but you could use the slopes instead, but us as a family used this as our daily exercise to work of the amount of food we would of eaten!!Be carefull around the pools as they are very slippery, just keep flipflops nearby. Overall we had a relaxing and fun family holiday.""

love tenerife but wouldnt stay in this hotel again
"nice hotel and the staff are friendly , too far away from shops and resturants to go self catering we went all inclusive and although the food was nice enough it was very repetitive and not alot of choice for kids .The beer pump seemed to go off quite alot and they only do sandwiches witch you can toast for snacks no chips or burgers. the pools were nice and always some sun loungers free , there was always something for the kids to do and the nightly entertainment kept our kids happy ide give it 8 out of ten but wouldnt go back just because we prefer to be closer to beach and more food choice..also we went all inclusive and didnt fly back untill 2 in the morning however they took our bands off us at lunch time and said that was when the all inclusive ends so we paid for 7 days and only got 6 and as it is so far out it was abit of a nightmare the last day ."

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BOOK INTO JAIL. MORE COMFORT THERE!!
"believe me the title says it all. this resort is 1 or 2 star at best. it has a plaque displaying 3 keys outside. there is no restaurant, it is at best a noisy understaffed canteen, serving repetitive, sloppy food. we had to clean our own tables when we did eat there, most of the time we walked out hungry and got a cab to las americas to eat a proper meal. the whole complex is a farce from start to finish, with uncomfortable chairs, pikey plastic garden tables and chairs to sit on to view the 'night time entertainment' set on a 10ft sq deck with a gazebo on it. the room was a farse too. meant to sleep 3 people, the 'double' bed was 2 singles pushed together, and the third bed was a put-u-up stowed in a cupboard. however, we did have some pet cockroaches, lights hanging off walls, broken light switches, cracked stairs, ripped mouldy curtains and NO air conditioning anywhere except the mega expensive super market. pg tips were 3.50 for 40 bags. crisps 2.00 euro a bag. hyped-up prices to stitch you up even more. i am seeking a full refund as i need another holiday to get over this shower of crap. ive had better prison stays. the best thing about all week was the transfer back to the airport. if, like me you are a decent hardworking person who saves for a family holiday, dont go here. it will break your heart. rating 0 out of 10"

"Had a really good time at the Gran Oasis, however it is quite far out and if you want to go into Las Americas you will need to get a taxi which will cost you around 8 euros. Tenerife itself is fairly quiet. The hotel is lovely, very clean and tidy with lots of entertainment going on day and night. Big thanks to Renata who is bubbly and friendly all the time, along with Vincent and Sonia who do a great job. The First Choice reps are fab, in particular Adam and Anam who kept my children entertained day and night! The only downsides are there is no air conditioning in the rooms, the food which wasnt all that good, if you like fish and pasta you are OK but apart from that, not much choice. However there was always salad and meats to fill up on. The other downside was the beds, we had a family room for 4 people but there were only 2 beds and the other 2 were camp beds which are not ideal. All in all we had a good holiday and met some great people, just a few things the hotel could do to improve things greatly."

Very good value all inclusive
"just come back from a week with Thomas Cook and we were really surprised with the value for money and standard of the hotel. There's lots of space around the complex and you're just a short taxi journey into the heart of Playa De Las Americas if you want something a bit livelier. A great place to relax and soak up the sun"

"After reading the previous reviews, I have to agree that the views from our roof terrace were wonderful.
Beware of the walk to town , seems closer than it is, especially in the heat. There is a courtesy bus from Hotel, but last bus to town is at 5 O'Clock and as a family of five we required 2 taxis, and up and down everyday can dig deep into your holiday money.
The apartments were not the cleanest I have stayed in but to be honest I went out and purchased some cleaning material and after that I was happier. You really need to keep everything of the floors and surfaces or the ant's will come a crawling.
Entertainment was pretty poor, we only ventured the once to listen and the price of the drink and a clown with with 2 poor poodles was enough to put us off the rest of our stay.
Having read reviews about the Oasis (unfortunately after we had booked) and a problem they were having with break-ins the first priority for us on arrival was to hire a safe deposit box. I am so glad we did. We heard of 5 separate apartments that had items stolen, money, I-Pods, etc, and even a mother with 2 children awakening to someone in her bedroom. The strange thing was no sign of forced entry..
Having been to the Oasis I do not think I would venture back, but I certainly loved Tenerife and next time will stay a bit closer to town."

"We booked a two week holiday staying at the Oasis Golf Resort for July 2006. The resort was advertised as a Four Star Plus resort by First Choice. I would rate it as a Three Star overall but nearer One star for cleanliness.
We wanted a relaxing holiday with our ten week old son. The resort looked lovely and relaxing in the brochure and First Choice Holidays recommended it as a place for families.
We arrived at the resort at 23.15 and was shown our room. We discovered that out welcome pack which had cost us £15.00 was not there. So I had to go to the bar to purchase 6 small bottles of water to allow us to make bottled milk for our baby. The bar closed at mid-night so I only just managed to scrape in to buy some water.
We started to unpack and when I'd put five shirts on the rail in the wardrobe the rail collapsed bringing the shirts with it. Just what you need after a long journey!
We awoke at 5.45am due to my son wanting some milk. My Wife went to the kitchen to make some milk and discovered that the kitchen was covered in ants.
The management were informed but didn't seem to care.
The general cleanliness of the resort is below average and the response by management is to ignor any requests to see them. We asked at 06.30am and 10.00am and 12.00pm but they still did see us.
First Choice eventually moved us to another resort, The Tenerife Sur, which was even poorer. Do not even consider going there!!
The service by First Choice was good but we felt that our holiday was ruined by the fact the we had to move to three resorts overall.
I do not recommend this resort for families with babies or self caterers due to the hygiene issues."
