Cheap But Mamagement Crap!!
"Hi...we just spent one week at this place..there was four of us so we had two one bed apartments. the rooms need some TLC ,and the bathrooms needed a good clean mould around the bath. the foods is ecellent and cannot fault it. our main complaint is that you cannot get aound the pool. people are putting towels on sunbeds at 7.30 am, and from what we saw 6 at a time. we did complain to the manager 3 times and he said he would stop it. did he heck, he just fobbed us off. so we didnt get to sunbathe there. The beach is so windy you get sand blasted so no hope there. But we did find a good bar which is the Slaine a irish bar next to the reception. if you get a chance go there. We had some brilliant nights there. Over all cheap holiday i suppose you get what you pay for...(very noisey at night). Would i stay there again?....NO....i would visit the area but stay else where. Oh its so cheap there. beautiful place."

"Just back from a week at the CostaMar with husband and 2 kids. Had a great time. Taxi from airport only 12 euros and only 10 minutes drive at most. Check in was extremely fast and we were given a 2 bedroom apartment but had only booked for a 1 bedroom apartment. Apartment was clean. Yes, it was basic, but what do you really need for a week in the sun? Shower was great, very large balcony with 5 chairs and table. We were on the third floor and although you had to climb the steps to it, they were not very steep and was an easy climb (even with a buggy). Pool area was fine at this time of year but could see the size of it being a problem in peak season. No problem with beds, always one available (again it is only May). However, pools were cold and I mean very cold. Entertainment was simple, a kids disco at 8.30 for half an hour, bingo some nights, music others and the occasional "professional" show. Position (for us) was perfect, spar supermarket at the bottom of our steps which sold everything you could want - water, juice, cold meat, cheese, fresh rolls and bread, papers, ice cream etc. Beach just across the road. Centre of Puerto De Carmen about a 20 minute slow walk away or a quick taxi ride (3 euros). We didnt eat in the hotel but it looked ok. Some restaurants around hotel, we tried 2 of them and meals were great. More choice in Town. We would go back here but not in peak season as I could imagine there would be no space around the pool. And finally, not a cockroache in sight ;-)"

"the apartments are around a tired and derelict complex. it had a supermarket [well stocked] a "breakfast all day place" a chinese restaurant [not popular] a restaurant that served us a poor meal
[not cheap] an amusment arcade, and a couple of dingy bars. the remaining units were unused. the hotel bar was also the kids entertainment area, so a no go area for us oldies. our ground floor apartment was not up to any standard..the shower head was broken so replaced the basin would not drain away, the plumber removed a small bucket of foul smelling gunge the mould and stains round the toilet and bath were only cleaned when we complained the black furry mould on the windows and window sills smelt the oven fell away from the wall when opened why did we stay? we wanted 2 weeks to relax and have sun, and as our patio was large and in a good position for day long sun we stuck it out. ,we pity the guests on higher floors the outside steps to their apartments were very steep. so... the sun was shining, the local wine was cheap, but in 40 years of worldwide travel, this was a holiday to forget."

Great location showing its age
"Booked for one week (Easter) with Budget got a ground floor apt. Asked to be moved to higher up one (three floors) without luck. Reason was mush better view quieter and brighter. The staff were helpful, the pool area is to small and a bit in your face. I found our room a bit shabby and tired but clean basic sums it up.
In its favour is a great location everything you need is close to hand. Great beach just across the road Lanzarote is a great place for a sun holiday lots to do for all ages."

Superb location & excellent accommodation
"Excellent location approx 30mins walk to centre of Puerto del Carmen, taxis very cheap & frequent, bus service every 20mins. Complex very well maintained with daily cleaning service - fresh towels & linen service. 24hr security and room available for late check outs. Spar shop in complex, pubs & eateries would not be as good as those in Puerto Del Carmen - highly recommend Charlies Bar!"

"Booked a two bed apartment, it was very spacious and clean. There was no kettle though so we hired a kettle, toaster and sandwich maker (about 30e for the lot).
We went in January and found the complex and the resort very quiet. Entertainment was provided but wasn't very good but the Italian rep that did games round the pool every day was brilliant with the kids.
There were a lot of Dutch tourists at this complex and we found them to be extremely rude and unfriendly.
The cleaners came every second day but we found they came too early in the morning, 8am. We didn't appreciate being woken at that hour when we were on hols.
We ended up going to the Irish bar called Slainte which is directly outside the apartments for entertainment. Itâs a small bar with a great atmosphere! We had great great craic and ceol there.
Overall I wouldn't recommend Lanzarote for any body with kids who are not teens, thereâs nothing for the smaller ones to do and they get bored.
The Costa mar apartments are very clean and quite comfortable but I would only return on a girlie or couples holiday.
I won't return to Lanzarote with my kids as itâs just not geared towards families."

An enjoyable holiday
"My partner and i have just returned from a weeks Self Catering at the Costa Mar. Apartment was very roomy and basic but mostly importantly it had a fridge!
Spar shop 2 mins down the road was superb, it had everything we needed, especially the local plonk at 1.34 euros a bottle! Pool second to none, very clean and tidy. And no-one could 'Reserve' the free sunloungers with their towel.
Perfect time of year to go with youngsters.
Would definitely go back. 1 thing to remember take a travel kettle if going self catering. Well worth hiring a car for a few days as well."

"we have just got back from a 1 week stay at costa mar. we had a great holiday the apartments were very roomy though the equipment was very basic not even a toaster . the spar across the road has lovely freshly baked bread every morning so you can manage without one or hire from reception.the maids kept the rooms very clean. we did have 1 cockroach and my 10 year old daughter just about brought the place down screaming but we got rid of it and never saw any others.the swimming pools were great for our family as our kids are older 10 and 13 but i don't think it would be ideal for families with younger kids as the pools are quite deep and you would need to keep a watchful eye.the poolside bar was very reasonabely priced for drinks and snacks all of which were very tastey there were usually sunbeds available no matter what time of day.we never used the restaurant preferring to eat out at different places of which there are plenty to choose from. we usually walked into puerto del carmen at night and had a meal and ended the evening at the mucky duck which is close to the apartments with good evening entertainment.the hotel entertainment was more directed at younger children with the mini disco though we didn't see much of it so can't really comment on the full evening programme.the resort was pretty quiet but there was plenty going on just a short walk or taxi ride away. we did the timinfaya national park tour which was very enjoyable it cost us 80 euros for 4 of us with tenesa tours leaving at 0940 and returning at 1430 it was well worth the money and this was very reasonable compared with some of the excursions.we also went to the teguise market just taking the local bus costing about half the price as the organised excursions.a week just wasn't long enough to see and do everything the beach was lovely though on some days a bit windy we had been warned about this and took a windbreak but never needed it.all in all a very enjoyable holiday."

Think Twice if you have young kids....
"I have just returned from a 2 week stay (Sep 06) at the Costa Mar with my wife and 2 daughters aged 6 & 2. This was our 3rd holiday to Lanzarote and booked the apts having read the really positive reviews. We we disappointed to say the least and this is without doubt the worst complex we have stayed in Lanzarote. The Costa Mar which is located in Playa de los Pocillos, is in a fairly run down shopping complex (several closed down bars, nightclubs etc) which seems to have seen its day.
Having a 2 year old I requested a ground floor 2 bed apt (which I got). Worst mistake I could have made, it was like a dungeon with no natural light into the kitchen area and 1 of the bedrooms. The lack of air con really made it a humid hell hole. (Great weather, It averaged 34deg for the 2 weeks). The apartment had not been refurbed since 1980's (at a guess) and had evidence of cockroach murders on the white wash walls in most rooms. Our balcony was on the roof of the apt up a concrete sprial staircase, definitley a no-go for the kids. Noise of the cleaners pulling around furniture on the tiled floors above had us all awake approx 7:30 most mornings. We requested an apt move to a higher floor which we got on the 6th day of our holiday, and it was well worth the trips with baby and buggys up 3 flights of stairs, if only for the natural light. and a huge balcony. Having said all of that I agree with all other reviews that the apts in general were kept very clean and cleaned every day with fresh towels etc.
The toddlers pool was fine, and served its purpose for very young kids having a paddle. The 2 x main pools at their shallowest were 1meter deep with no gradual incline, so any kids not that strong at swimmming will find this a problem.
The entertainment / kids club was pretty poor. During the day our 6year old spent 30mins doing a bit of art every morning and that was pretty much it. Spanish guy and German girl who really did not have much interest in Irish or British kids and looked as though they hated their jobs. My worst gripe, at night time the entertainment was held on a stage in the pool area. Pool was not cordoned off which wud have meant our 2 year old had to be confined to her buggy, otherwise she would have ended up in the pool. We stayed for 15mins, and never went back. Reports around the pool from people who did stay around at night were not very positive and generally slated the nightly entertainment. We ended up taking the 15min walk down to the Sol Lanzarote in Matagorda most nights where they have great kiddies and adult entertainment most nights. In fact only for the Sol, we would have struggled to keep the kids occupied at night.
In summary, for those without kids the complex probably serves its purpose as the Location is good etc. For those with kids, I'd look elsewhere. My own opinion is it badly needs some refurbishment, the pool area isn't adequate for kids and the entertainment needs to be overhauled if this is to be classed as a family friendly complex."

So much to do so little time...
"We have just returned back from staying at this great Hotel, after having had a wonderful two week break. W e were originally booked into an other apartment in Puerto del Carmen, but were changed at the last minute, much to our great fortune as it transpired.
The apartments are located opposite a small shopping centre with a Spar , pubs and resturants located there, we did not experience any nose from the centre of any kind to spoil our holiday ,either in the day time or the evening.
The apartments are surrounded by a well maintained garden of tall palms and shrubs, you have to see the army of staff who are there every morning watering and cleaning up the grounds, and all to a high standard, much to the credit of the hotel.
The hotel has two swiming pools which are well maintained and cleaned to a very high standard every day, only small comment that I would make was that it tends to get very crowded due to the number of apartments, and at the time we went there ( July) it was the usual up "early to get a sun lounger..."
In terms of location you are only a twenty minute walk into Puerto del Carmen, or fiveminutes in a taxi, which are plentyful , safe ,and cheap, and only three to four Euros.
Or if like us , you like to enjoy things with the children at a slower pace , then in the opposite direction, you can walk into Matagorda in five minutes from this hotel ,along a wide well light Avenue to the smaller and I would say more family centred Resturants and
pubs as well as a wide selection of fashionable shops selling duty free items,as well as lots of craft items.
Car hire is cheap, with plenty of offices both in Los Pocillos,Matagorda, and is a great way to see the whole of the island, with on the whole, well sign posted roads, watch out for the by pass road to Costa Teguise ,you do not want to take the wrong turning and end up in Arrecife by mistake .......grounds for divorce...if you do !
Finally, the day time and evening entertainment at the complex both for the kids, mum and dad, teenagers... Grand parents, was fantastic I can not praise the staff enough with the young Group leaders doing a fantastic Job, plenty of activities to keep all happy, a real highlight.
The apartments are as I said previously well maintained with the maids cleaning every day, plenty of clean towels, more than you can use.
We spoke to many other people while we where there , and they all said the same, that the Apartments are in a great spot, clean and well maintained (Try and get a second or third floor Apartment, as this will get you a great view and a breeze into cool you and your apartments,) great entertainment both day and night, ideal for Puerto del Carmen with really friendly staff who go out of their way to help you enjoy your holiday.
You can save your self a small fortune if you go self catering, as you can pay as you go each day and eat at the hotel , we were quoted £15OO pounds for a family of five by our tour operator for two weeks, but if you book at the hotel when you arrive you can pay only 760euros (£600), half board a big saving.....
I have tried to be as honest as i can about this hotel and its location and great staff, if you do go , I am sure you will not be disapointed,...have a great time, the crainie family..."

"Fantastic position across from beach. Spacious apartments, basic kitchen e.g. no kettle had to hire one, TV Spanish or German apart from 2 channels very clean room and service excellent.
Friendly English speaking staff. Tried breakfast one morning, ok nothing to shout about, had better. Childrenâs club is great staff lovely one German girl and a Italian boy nice activities for the kids nice sandy play area felt safe and clean pool is excellent if a little cool pool bar good views from our apartment excellent overlooking pool and a roof terrace too with chairs and table.
Unexpected perk going back in October for two weeks this time and in a 1 bedroom this time (last time 3 adults and 2 kids in a 2 bed apart loads of room) hope to wander further afield this time as the pool and the super beach was about as far as we went, apart from into the town twice on the local buses. Excellent about £3.60 for 5 took about 10mins get off where you like good shops and loads to see, next we will explore more.
I recommend this hotel for families as its a bit too quite for couples or groups in playa de Los Pocillos as you are out of the center but only 15 mins transfer from airport which is great with younger children. Weather was perfect every day we went at Easter break hoping to have the same in Oct."
