Dream holiday turns in to a nightmare!!!
"Our first all-inclusive holiday at the Dream Gran Castillo in December 2015 was an enjoyable experience. We could not fault the room, the food or the standard of service and the facilities were excellent. One of the big attractions at the hotel is the main swimming pool and the poolside bar area. This is where we spent most of our time relaxing on sun loungers, drinking cocktails and enjoying great views of the ocean.
We enjoyed the holiday so much we decided to return to the hotel for another all-inclusive holiday in April 2016 and we had no reason to expect that this holiday would be any different from the one we had enjoyed so much 4 months ago.
We arrived at the hotel on 16th April and everything was as we remembered it, although the standard of service seemed to have slipped a little. No bell boys were outside the hotel to assist with luggage when we arrived and it took reception over an hour to get our luggage to our room after check-in. But these were minor issues.
Everything changed on the 17th April. The main swimming pool was drained and all the sun loungers were removed from the surrounding area. The nightmare began on 18th April at 08:00 when a construction crew of 10 men arrived at the hotel with a skip, a concrete mixer, pneumatic drill, stone cutting saw, grinders and hammers and chisels. Major refurbishment of the main pool and surrounding areas started immediately and soon the whole area looked and sounded like a building site. Trenches were dug in the concrete and the pool liner was removed. Stone cutting and grinding activities produced huge clouds of cement dust which drifted around the pool bar and over guests in the adjacent sun lounger area. For some reason, the hotel management kept the pool bar open for snacks and drinks but the noise and dust produced by the construction activities adjacent to the pool bar made the area an unpleasant and unsafe place to be. Some guests even complained of dust on the tables and cutlery at the nearby Las Coloradas Buffet Restaurant.
Guests who didnât complain were ignored. Guests that did complain were told to go to another pool area which is dedicated to adults. This smaller facility could not cope with large numbers of additional people redirected there from the main pool area. There were insufficient sun loungers and there was a shortage of umbrellas. The only place we could lounge in the sun and enjoy a view of the ocean was our balcony but even here there was no respite from the noise as it overlooked the main pool.
We saw Ms Heike Grosse, the hotelâs Sub Director, dealing with complaints from other guests and managed to speak with her. She informed us that a contractor had to be called in to repair a leak in a pipe feeding the main pool which had developed suddenly on Sunday 17 April. She insisted these things were out of the hotelâs control and they could not be held responsible. We asked her how a construction crew of 10 men with a cement mixer, pneumatic drill, grinders, stone cutting saw, hammers, chisels, vehicles and a skip can arrive at the hotel on such short notice and start a 3-week pool refurbishment project if this was an unplanned event. She did not answer. She did offer us a free Bali bed, free sun loungers on the beach and a free excursion but we later informed her that this did not adequately compensate us and we would be seeking financial compensation.
Jet2 Holidays eventually agreed to transfer us to a 4* hotel on the 23rd April where we spent the remainder of our holiday. We had put up with incessant sound of the pneumatic drill, grinders and stone cutting saw every day until we left and as far as we know itâs still going on.
Hotel management made no formal announcement about the pool refurbishment. They did not apologies for the disturbance or loss of the hotelâs main facility and they showed little concern for the welfare or safety of its guests.
Shame on you Dream Place Hotels for turning our dream holiday into a holiday nightmare!

"My boyfriend and i had just returned from our 7 day trip to Dream Gran Castillo and couldnt have asked for a better time. Initially i was very fearful due to it being my first trip abroad without my parents but everything went beyond expectations. We arrived around 9:30pm and was greeted by champagne and bell boy service, which was very lovely after a day of travelling and really set the holiday up on a high! From then on the holiday was everything a young couple could need from their first holiday. The staff were lovely and friendly and couldnt have asked for better service, the location was beautiful and having a sea view aswell waking up to that view was a bonus, the food was well cooked with a wide selection and you could always find something different to have each night. From reading a few other reviews the service and the staff being overstretched seemed to be a running theme, and this may be down to us travelling slightly out of peak season but this was never a problem. Of course there would be queues, its a very large hotel and the bars are always popular for an evening but the longest we stayed in a queue for was a minute maybe two.
The only negative thing i would say is the beach is extremely rocky and is not the best sea to swim in due to some rocks being large and kickable when swimming, so maybe go abit further afield if you are wanting a nice swim in the sea, but if its just a day lounging on the beach then there is absolutely nothing wrong with the beach outside the hotel.
I could go on about this holiday for pages but ill let you decide for yourselves. And ill reccommend all inclusive as sipping a pina colada on a sun lounger overlooking the sea with a book is one of lifes luxuries i will want to re-live again sometime, and unlimited alcohol can only be a bonus!

FANTASTIC - CANT WAIT TO GO AGAIN!!!!
"I have never written a review before but feel this Hotel deserves a mention.
I wont repeat all the positive comments as you'll just be re-reading the same thing over again but all I can say is after 8 years previousley working as a Travel Agent, experiencing many Hotels all over the world I can honestly say this must be one of the best!
If I still worked in Travel I would send as many customers here as I could as i know they would all return satisfied.
With regards the negative comments (which are minor compared to the positives) all I can say is that they must have been un-lucky or extremley fussy.
If your reading this review before booking all I can say is click off this now and get it booked quick!"

Not a five star hotel
"Just back from an 11 night stay at this hotel. If you want to relax in the sunshine then it's great. We did have a great time but I wouldn't return. The staff are stretched to breaking point and as a result are often dismissive and surley. The food choice is extensive but at busy times often runs out so you have to wait ages for more rice to come out so your meat goes cold etc. I would also add that as parents trying to negotiate the scrum in the buffet with three small children, it was hell!!! Our table was never ready in the evening despite our asking the manager to assist with this to no avail, resulting in us having to do it ourselves. Nowhere to set down plates while you pick up food and most people not looking where they are going made life exceptionally difficult at meal times. The mini club was great and my girls really enjoyed it. The animation team try very hard and are lovely, most of the entertainment was amusing simply as it was so bad!! Great selection of drinks on offer including cocktails and soft drinks on tap all day long. The pool snacks are pretty vile and not something we ever indulged in. The hotel is also pretty isolated with very little in the way of bars anywhere near it, the nearest being a pleasant if a little lengthy walk to Marina Rubicon, aside from a choice of three bars in the little complex at the back of the hotel. However all said and done we did have an enjoyable time and I know many of the guests enjoyed their stay. Doesn't warrant 5 stars and if it advertised as 3 or 4 stars guests would no what to expect.

not a 5 star
"we arrived at the hotel at about 9;30pm and and quickley checked in and portered to our room, The room was pool side with a sea view and a good size with a large bathroom so far so good, we found our way to the buffet resturant and greeted by a waitress who took our orders for drinks and showed us to a table the resturant was reasonably busy and there seemed to be a good choice of food available but there was nothing to indicate or warrant a 5 star creditation the food could only be described as average,After a quick diner we went to the bar in the reception area and had to join a long queue to get our drinks there was only one girl serving behind the bar so it took 15 minutes to get served this was the to be the same for the rest of the week there were waiters walking around collecting glasses and taking the odd order for drinks but this sometimes took even longer than going to the bar and joining the queue yourself. The entertainment in the main bar was of a typical hotel type the animation team attempting some form of entertainment and the guests slowly leaving the bar to find their own entertainment.after the second night we decided to leave the hotel after diner and go to a local bar (a walk of about 15 minutes) and enjoy some live music and a few drinks and returned by taxi (4-5 euro's) we did this for most nights for the rest of our holiday not really something you really want to do on an all-inclusive holiday. The hotel is a really nice place to holiday but with a few changes could be excellent, just a few more staff and some decent entertainment and it could be worth the 5 stars but at the moment i would struggle to give it 4 stars."

Amazaing couples holiday
"An amazing hotel, peaceful relaxing and enjoyable. I have recommended it to many people. The staff are friendly and generally speak very good english, the food was also excellent. The south tour of the volcanoes is very worth while doing, its about 25 euros in the nearest town and far more expensive through holiday companies. The beach outside the hotel is rocky but ideal for snorkeling, the nearest beach is about a 25 minute walk from the hotel, but the beach in the nearest town is much better and next to shops and Burger King. We were all inclusive, I would recommend it because there are not many restaurants near by, but theres a great little sports bar around the corner from the hotel called Tropical Sports Bar (nice english food). Its quite a windy location which we found good because otherwise the sun is unbearably hot. Nighttime entertainment is very hit and miss, one day its amazing and the next unbearable, overall a 10 out of 10 :) ps, pool is cold and the hotel provide towel for pool usage but not to use on the beach."

Excellent value for money !
"Not having been to Lanzarote before & with such a cheap price for a 5 star all inclusive, we were a little dubious over the holiday. Well we didn't need to, the resort was fantastic ! The staff were a bonus, being so helpful and friendly, making us feel totally spoilt. I do like decent rooms, even though you aren't in them for long but the Superior Suites were amazing, absolutley huge, clean and ticked every box I needed. The air conditioning, fans, Satelite TV, fridges and a bed you could get lost in were excellent. We had a double balcony, which you could get a small family in, our view wasn't of the sea but we didn't really care in the circumstances. I'm sure you could have asked to move to higher up and they'd oblige.
Playa Blanca is a quiet resort and our hotel one of the furthest from the hub of the small fishing port. There were bars and restaurants you could go to but our hotel, as all inclusive did the most amazing selection of foods and drinks, Gordons, Jim Beam, Cava etc.
We walked the 20 minute easy access cliff walk to the Rubincon Marina every morning, to walk our breakfast off and spent time gazing at all the beautiful boats and huge fish. With lots of cafes, you are spoilt for choice where to have your next stop and a little further on is the Playa Blanca beach. It looked lovely but a little crowded for our liking.
If you headed the opposite way from the hotel, a 10 minute walk would take you to the Papagayo Beach...now this is remote, no facilities but completely chilled and much more our liking. Our hotel supplied a lunch if you wanted to venture off so you were never hungry.
The weather was stunning at I've returned with a fantastic tan for 7 days.
We would definately return, bringing our 3 children next time as they would be completely catered for in all senses.

Great from start to finish !!!
"Came to Lanzarote for the first time for a 12 night stay with 7 and 11 year old boys on our first ' all inclusive' and found it to be 100% better than we had ever anticipated - always shied away from this type of board on previous holidays. However found the hotel, staff/service and food /drink absolutely excellent. Our family room was huge with an equally large bathroom so plenty of room for the 4 of us to spread out. Only one issue I would raise (you knew there had to be one !) - the sun loungers are quickly taken up in the morning by guests staying at the Gran Castillo in the same complex leaving the guests from our hotel occasionally without beds as the pool areas are much much smaller. This is mainly because the children's pool with flumes, mini club and activities were at our hotel so I would strongly recommend that you considering choosing this hotel above the Gran Castillo if you have young children. Our boys had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the activities as did many of the adults. We couldn't agree more with all the recent positive reviews so won't repeat them again as they are an exact reflection of our opinion of the hotel/resort. Would agree though that it isn't a true 5 star but certainly a 4 star plus and would certainly recommend it to anyone with children on a value for money basis. Had the most wonderful holiday and can't wait to go back."

Enjoyable Family Holiday
"We stayed at the Dream Castillo Papagayo on an all inclusive basis for 11 nights.
On arrival we were given a very large room with a double balcony, Sky TV, sofa bed, fridge and separate bedroom with sliding doors for privacy. The bathroom was large with a walk in shower, deep bath, double sinks, separate room with toilet and bidet and soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush and comb.
The food was excellent, the chef would cook you steak, fish, chicken, pork and the drinks were of a superior quality (not the cheap drinks that you sometimes get on all inclusive).
The entertainment was good for kids. It was my Son's birthday while we were away and they made a cake for his birthday free of charge.
The waiter Jamal was very friendly and my Son and Daughter really liked him.
Would recommend this hotel to families.
I would say this hotel was more a 4* plus than 5*, but it was still excellent value and we were all very sad to leave."

Dream Castillo. Wow!
"Having stayed close by at the Papagayo Arena, which is also an all-inclusive deal, first impressions were positive. Arriving in the evening we were greeted by a very welcoming receptionist and porter who after checking in took our cases to the wonderfully equipped rooms with a lovely large bathroom. Nothing more you could really wish for to be honest and very comfortable too. All toiletries, towels, robes and even shaving cream for those forgetful like me!
Dinner on the first night was an impressive affair even though we arrived late. The staff, which were extremely attentive and just couldnât do enough for you. As our week passed by the staff were consistently working to make the stay as comfortable and stress free as possible. Breakfast was served with the delights of a violinist playing to the diners. It may sound pretentious and perhaps highbrow, but extremely relaxing and a pleasant change.
The pools were lovely and even though the sister hotel next door, the Gran Dream Castillo is supposedly âbetterâ, many of their guests spent much of their day-time around the Dream Castillo pool area especially those with younger children. Considering it was Easter and the hotel fully booked it never felt too busy or noisy, apart from the kidsâ mini-club announcements, which happened twice a day and were actually quite amusing. Plenty to occupy older kids if they wanted to participate but not imposing the activities on those that wanted a more peaceful time.
Food and wine aplenty breakfast, lunches, dinners and snacks all if you wanted them and lots of variety to choose from, freshly cooked fish or meat to order and a plentiful choice of other hot and cold dishes including salads, fruit and cheeses.
The pool bar was excellent again with a wide choice of drinks hot and cold through out the day, ice-creams fir the children if a little limited choice but lots available. Evening entertainment, if you wanted to be entertained, ranged from very good to wonderment as to why they bothered, but even that didnât dampen our enthusiasm for the hotel generally.
A superb holiday location close by the thirty minutes from the airport, right next to the Papagayo beaches and great walks, a hotel with superb staff, great food and excellent facilities. All round, somewhere Iâd have no hesitation in recommending for families and Iâve been fortunate to stay in some very nice hotels. Ignore the negative reviews and go for it as you wonât be disappointed. Five star hotel? Maybe not in truth (more four star in reality), but certainly five star for effort and aspiration."

A fantastic hotel - great food, staff, surroundings - Recommended!
"we returned yesterday from a week here to celebrate my husband's birthday.
The hotel is at the "nicer" end of playa blanca, but only 15 mins walk to the gorgeous papgayo beach. 20 mins walk along the promenade takes you to the marina rubicon which is very pleasant, and another 25 min walk gets you to playa blanca itself.
Taxi to either is less than 4 euros.
Booked a superior room - amazing! 2 storey room with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, jacuzzi bath, huge terrace and sitting room. Fridges, 2 tellies, air con,
Food fabulous - massive variety and all fresh including many cooked to order options at all meals. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
All inclusive - so local drinks are all included, and plentiful, also a lovely snack bar by pool and evening bar.
Would go back - and recommend that you go too!! A beautiful hotel."
