"This was out second trip to Sands Beach having previously visited in 2014. Unfortunately our experience didn't live up to the first and we feel the resort/hotel has declined since then. Most of the pool areas could do with a make over, a lot of them are frankly unsafe with ripped AstroTurf, broken tiles, old and dirty looking sun loungers. Frankly it makes the place look a mess. We stayed in a superior apartment but this was also looking tired and had a really strong damp smell in the bedroom. Cleaners came most days although I wouldn't say the cleaning was of a particularly high standard, although to be fair the rest of the hotel was tidy. Used the bar on a nightly basis but service was slow at times. The other point I would like to make is that there are certain members of staff working here (who appear to be the 'face' of the hotel and participate in PR such as writing on forums and review websites) who are unprofessional and clearly don't like the hotel being criticized in anyway. The responses I have seen from these two staff members are sarcastic, unnecessary and sometimes comprise of personal and hostile comments being made towards guests. Hotel management needs to have a good think about the image that is being portrayed of the hotel via these people. We won't be returning to Sands Beach I'm afraid. "

"What can I say about Sands Beach Resort! Well we had an amazing holiday here, the staff were the friendliest I have ever come across, they really couldn't do enough for us. Very happy and polite! I have stayed in Lanzarote 6 times at different places and I can honestly say this was the best by far. The room was very clean, we had to put a sign on the door for the maids who then would come in and clean the room, leave fresh towels and make the beds, there was no limit to how many times this was done in the week. The room was very equipped, lovely balcony. we also had a Anti-stress full body massage in the Spa which was so relaxing. We went half board and the food was absolutely delicious, not 1 bad meal. There was 7 swimming pools, Jacuzzi and man made beach, also right on the seafront, you couldn't have picked a better location! Cannot wait to get back there!"

Good location and facilities
"Booked with Cosmos using tesco vouchers. Usual frustration on arrival that waiting ages to check in as so many of us had arrived at once, but this is the same everywhere. Slight issue with our safe - paid £32 euros for one on arrival for our 12 night stay, and we were given a card to put in the slot of a digital safe. On arrival in our room, no digi safe but an old small one with holes where a lock barrel should be. back to reception again, and they did try to give us a lock barrel, but based on reviews we'd read, we asked to change to a room with the digi safe we'd just arranged. Instead of moving us within 20 minutes the maintenance guy was there accompanied by security and he installed a digi safe in the wardrobe, including drilling holes in the floor to fix it in place! After a couple of days we had an issue with the safe not opening in the morning (no we hadn't got the number wrong!) Fair credit to reception, the maintenance guy was with us within 10 minutes of reporting it, and he confirmed the "message" in the electronic window was not what he could fix and it needed to be looked at by the safe supplier - he said they would be with us within the hour and the chap was. Excellent response! Accommodation was spacious, first floor with large balcony and looked straight over one of the 7 pools the complex has. It was generally clean, although I wouldn't say it was 4 star clean which is what the brochure claimed, although on the whole was looking a little tired or in need of some TLC - a couple of the pool areas have been refurbed and look great, but ours and some of the others are starting to show signs of wear and would benefit from a lick of whitewash. Wish we'd known beforehand that the room came with a full size iron and board, and I could have saved a bit of luggage weight and left the travel iron at home. Kitchen equipment supplies were minimal, we only used for bread and cheese, but I wouldn't have been happy trying anything more. Staff were generally brilliant across the complex - friendly and nothing was too much trouble. With the exception of the Soleil bar. We had been warned that here the staff don't like you to go to the bar yourself, so we selected a table on each occasion we went in, usually around 9pm on returning from an evening meal. 3 out of 5 times we left having not even been acknowledged by any of the bar staff for over 10 minutes, and they weren't that busy either. When we did get served the drinks were reasonably priced considering it was a hotel complex. Otherwise there is a very good Sports Bar across the road from the hotel, and the lass there is fantastic. Watch out for her sangria though, it tastes great, goes down easily and creeps up on you! We only used 2 of the 7 pools on offer, the Mai Tai one on the isalnd being slightly heated so in the March we were there it made quite a difference. The lagoon is good for families, and the free loungers and umbrellas was appreciated - especially as the ones on the main beach are quite expensive at 10 euros for two loungers and a brollie. Funny that on most days there were more people lying on the sand than using the loungers. Around the lagoon there are a few kayaks which are available for free to guests, an excellent idea for the kids and there's even lifejackets provided too. Sands Beach is at the far end of the resort, but a short stroll took us in to the main area with bars and restaurants. We can certainly recommend Baccus on the coast path, and the little tapas bar on the front of the Centro Commercial Maretas, but our unreserved praised goes to Irenes Bar Treraza. It is a local bar run by Dario and is fantastic. It is slightly set back off the main road, by about 30 yards down a walkway between Bar Equina and the local police office, opposite entrance to Centro Commercial Maretas. Every round we had then Dario came out with a small tapas, a different one every time. The locals use it and are all very friendly, helping each other out if language was difficult. We can't praise the place enough and recommend the Aprepas as typical canarian snacks. Although the coastal path by the hotel is a bit uneven, as you get towards town it has been upgraded and is a wide cycle and footpath all the way to Arricefe, and then you can take it all the way to Puerto Del Carmen. We hired bikes from the lovely chap on-site, Papagayo Bike, for 11 euro per day, with 10 euro deposit. We told him we were thinking of heading away from Teguise on the coast, and he advised us that for this direction we would need serious mountain bikes, and suggested the route to Arricife - it was a fabulous rideout with some fab views, and only a couple of small inclines that even I could cope with. Overall the holiday was fab, with plenty in Costa Teguise to keep us out of mischief. We hired cycles for two days, a car for two days and bussed out a couple of times too. Not sure if we would go back to this resort, as we feel we've seen it all across our 12 nights, but we would certainly go back to the island, and drop in to Bar Irene on a day trip!"

Beautiful holiday :)
"I have just come back from a week at sands beach resort, it was the perfect holiday for myself my partner and our two year old daughter, we stayed on the beach front appartment which i would highly recommend, your literaly two steps away from the private beach which had lots of toys and lilos for the kids to play with and for the adults!! the main pool area could do with a bit of an update but nothing that would stop me going again. the staff are friendly and helpful and the kids entertainment is great. the appartment was very equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine and full kitchen but the only thing that let it doen (which would pout me off going in the mid summer) was no air con, it was very hot at night but we soon got use to it and found out later on that a fan can be requested and they bring it to you! the entertainment at the hotel bar was pretty good too and again the staff were great, kids entertainers were so funny!!! we had bed and breakfast and the breakfast was great, a full buffet of hot and cold food. if you walk about 15 min to the end of the road you come to 'market sqaure' which had lots of nice resturants. ideal family holiday and we will def make this our yearly holiday destination! cant wait to go back :)"
