Disappointing. Not as good as last year
"The hotel did not seem to be cleaned as well as last year. The room was ok and extra pillows and blankets were given promptly on request. We were given a lovely welcome back from Nati and Alberto in the restaurant who was as friendly and helpful as previously. Food was another matter. The hot food was not kept warm enough and quite often only fairly warm. My husband had constant Diarrhoea. I was often violently sick. As was s few other guests. The quality was no way near up to standard for a four star hotel. The lunch menu was limited with mainly omelettes or burgers. But did have a nice salad bar. As a result we felt we did not get our monies worth and will Not return."

a great 2 weeks
"My wife and I have recently returned home after a great two week holiday at the coronas playa, we found the hotel staff and Thomson reps fantastically friendly and helpful, we met and got on well with many couples the entertainment was very good especially when magic touch replaced silhouette one slight negative was the variety of food main course and sweets at dinner which is why I have scored it 8/10 but the rooms are spacious and clean and I would recommend to anyone to pay a visit.

A perfect holiday
"Our 3rd visit to this hotel and still finding it wonderful. The staff are so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The food is lovely and well varied (we went all inclusive). Rooms are large and immaculate and the two pools are a good idea, with one used for activities and the other for us lazy holiday makers!. The evening entertainment is good. It is a hotel to return to time and time again - as many do."

Good Hotel - but ......
"Having just returned from a 2 week, all inclusive, I can endorse Loraine's words re staff, rooms and food. We also suffered from the indifferent weather. Obviously not the fault of the hotel. However, it did serve to emphasise the unsuitability of this hotel for a winter break. There was no way to avoid the cold and the wind to access the bar, the restaurant or the Pavilion (for the "entertainment") and no woman wants to have to worry about her hairstyle or whether she would freeze in the clothes she brought for the holiday! .The rooms are very clean, but the draughts coming under the door needed a towel to keep them out! What a pity there is not even an indoor heated pool which one normally finds in a 4 star. In spite of these problems we did enjoy ourselves, mainly through the general friendliness of other guests and the staff."

"We stayed at the Coronas playa for two week, end of July to the beginning of August. With the properties in Lanzerote limited to 6 stories high they build out and not up. The Coronas Playa is spread out and has two huge unheated pools. The top pool near reception is the quiet pool the bottom one the entertainment pool there is the Azus pool bar there too. There is so much space the sunbeds are a good distance from the next ones.
There is a nice walk to the town along the sea front and accessed by a gate at the rear of the hotel that is locked at 7PM but your room Key card opens it . It's worth going to the reps meeting as you will be told how to get into town this way and one of the advisers does the walk on your first full day if you want to tag along.
A good day out was the island tour, but do go on their bus excursion as the guide knows when its busy and gets you there a lot faster than you would by car the queues were terrible for the fire mountain.
We booked through a Thomson shop but couldn't book all inclusive, they said the hotel had stopped them booking AI. The price in their brochure was £16 PPPN. I e-mailed the Hotel and they told me its 22Euros PPPN now so I booked via e-mail and paid on arrival. Flight meals are stopping next year.
We arrived on a Sunday and the following Sunday was so windy the planes had to divert to Fuerteventura, they did eventually land but the people were so shaken up they were green when they got off. We found it to be windy all the time we were there, It's the windy side of the island and great for wind surfing.
The AI is a good deal as the drinks are branded the only ones you can't have on all inclusive are John Smiths and Magners cider.
The rooms are huge we did upgrade and the bed was two three quarter ones in size. There is two sunbeds and table and chairs on the balcony. They are clean and the maid service is great, we only had one small cockroach in the room the whole two weeks, we were on the second floor there are three floors. There are cockroaches running around outside at night in the garden areas and paths. In the morning most are dead and being eaten by ants so I assume some spray had been done by the hotel. There are cats everywhere the guests feed them and entice them into their rooms so don't be surprised if you find a cat or excrement on the balcony.
The entertainment was mediocre and they had a comedian on who emptied the place faster than a fire would. They have the acts in a tent thing they call the pavilion. It's waiter/waitress service and when its busy you can wait 35 minutes for your drinks.
The entertainment team consisted on one man and one girl, they did their best and said Thomson are cutting Gold hotels next year to 10. Thomson are concentrating on couple holidays, ie no entertainment team.
Would we go back, maybe one day, people do keep going year after year. All in all a great holiday.

Not up to standard
"This was our first stay in a Thomson gold hotel, and how disapoininting it was. The hotel is very dated, when you arrive you get the impression that it was designed in the 70s, we stayed in a garden suite with sea views in "Canarian style gardens",(very debatible). The rooms were huge and very clean, but on arrival we had to pay 50 euros for the air conditioning remote control, safe key and pool towels, of which 10 euros was refundable on return of the towels which is a little extortionate.
The television was poor, 4 English speaking channels,3 of which were news channels, plus movies 4 men 2, which in the evening usually consisted of mild porographic content, if you required extra channels such as ITV you were required to pay an extra 3 euros a day, again a little extortinate on an all enclusive package.
None of the showers around the two pools worked, there are cracked, missing and broken tiles around the edges of the pool, a serious health & safety issue! The sun loungers were by and large very old and in need of replacement.
The food was very dissapointing, very little choice was offered and what was available was generally of a poor quality, canteen style rather than a good quality hotel, there was a lot of processed food on offer which really is not up to 4 star hotel standards, if you required a snack at lunch time you were limited to toasties at the lower pool or you could eat in the main restaurant where you were served at your table, chicken & chips, burgers etc, not buffet style which is highly unsual, again the selection and quality was below 4 star standard.
The entertainment in the day day was quite good, the Thomson reps worked hard to entertain, the evening entertaiment was very hit and miss, some quite good, some awful, there can be a problem in the pavilion where the evening entertaiment is held due to the time it can take to receive your drinks from when you order, it can take 20-30 mins to receive. The service in the Monkey bar was very good.
There is an issue with Cockroaches at the Coronas, we had to walk each evening back to our room down an avenue which invarably had these horrible creatures crawling along the sides of the pathway, which may explain why there are so many cats at the hotel,we had a total of 5 in our room, which was reported to reception, they arranged for the maid to spray some replellent plus a can of spray was left for our use just in case we encountered any more of these grotesque creatures,
The staff at this hotel are absolutely fantastic from waiters, waitresses, bar staff, cleaners, reception, maintenace, they are all extreemly helpful, nothing is to much trouble and they always have a smile (or whistle) for you, they are all 5 star.
To describe this hotel as a Thomson Gold 4 Star is misleading,I would judge it as a 3 star max, speaking to some other guests, some of which have stayed there before, commented that the hotel standards were in decline, and that they have stayed at other Thomson Gold hotels which were far superior to the Coronas. Some people are repeat guests so they appear to be happy, but judging this hotel against others that we have stayed in, it is in our opinion sub standard. The Coronas is in need of a major refurb and some policy changes to bring it up to a decent 4 star all inclusive standard that is expected, and usually received now wherever you go.

"hotel and our room was fantastic, food was very good standard. the restaurant and bar staff were very polite. however we found english receptionist,s rude and unhelpful. there is a lovely wine bar connected to back of hotel well worth trying out. selfish people putting towels down by sunbeds to reserve them. entertainment was cheesey. thomson bloke who does quiz was good entertainment value."

"just came back on 24th march 2011, a week later than last year, still one of the best hotels in the area, hard to find fault with , very clean, EVERYONE very friendly, nothing too much trouble, all inclusive is excellent value (but not worth it if you dont drink ) a short 15/20 min stroll to the centre, sometimes hard to get a lounger later in the day, but usually ok up to 1030ish. could well recommend this hotel for a very relaxing week or two, may return next march/april.when weather should be more settled. 9/10.I RATE IT ."

"We have just got back from a week at the Coronas Playa hotel, and had a really great time. All the staff were so friendly and willing to help and advise you at any time. The food was really good and plenty of variety even to having Cava for breakfast, thats a first but very nice. The rooms are absolutely huge, we had a superior room which included dressing gowns, slippers, wine, a basket of fresh fruit and sunbeds as well as a table and chairs on the balcony. Between the hotel and the sea is a 10km walk along the sea front and there also gym equipment along the way that everyone was eager to try. All in all we had a fabulous time and definitely will return again especially as it is adult only."

"Booked hotel through Thomson and flew with Ryanair and saved a fortune. Hotel is near to airport so taxi only costs 20 euros. Hotel is clean, staff are excellent, food is good. Only thing is the appearance of the Hotel is a little bit of a concrete jungle. We upgraded to all inclusive with the hotel prior to arrival at 15 euros per person per day - great value, everything appeared to be available on the all inclusive! Rooms are very spacious and kept spotless. There are two pools on different levels. One is quiet and the other has the usual going ons with the Reps. The evening entertainment was very good. A very relaxing stay. "

lovely hotel but with one problem!
"Got to say my rating of this hotel is lower than most have scored it, not to say this is not a very good hotel because it is. The staff are brill, nothing is too much trouble, the place is really clean and tidy, The staff make sure that standards are very high, The food was good but my husband and I found it a bit bland for our taste so ate out 5 of the 11 nights we we're there, The reps are very good and the pool enterainment was very good and very funny at times( if your into a very loud reps !!)but do beware they will try to drag you off your sun lounger to join in. I'm afraid to say the reason I have given this hotel a lower rating is purely down to really hard and uncomfortable beds. After one night we complained and we're told they we're aware of the hardness of some beds, so much so that the manager had ordered mattress toppers for them, We got them on our 4th night but they only improved the problem slightly, after talking to other guests we found out that some beds we're Ok some not. So if you are going to this hotel make sure you ask about the beds as soon as you arrive, I suffered with a bad back for most of my stay and as you spend at least a quarter of your holiday in bed I feel the scoring is fair which is a shame because it is a lovely hotel."
