clean and value for money
"We stayed at the galeon playa for 2 weeks in april 2006.after getting the holiday for a good price we was a bit worried. We had a fantastic time, the apartments were very clean, the complex was well maintained, and thomsons kids club reps loopy lindsay, crazy craig, jolly jill and kool katie are absolutley fantastic with your children. The animation team could not do enough for you at no extra cost<thank you martin>.We found cafe flamingo just outside the complex on the left excellent for drinks and snacks and at a very reasonable price.Linda makes a mean sangria so we recommend you give that a try.The galeon playa is in a central location and you cant go wrong for places to eat out.We reccommend the bowling alley,Mathat Macote indian restaurant<english owned>,The glass house carvery,Cuty sark on the beach front,Saxos family bar."

Needn't have worried!!!!!
"Having read the reviews we were a little worried about what awaited us. When we arrived we were given a room overlooking the children's play area and above the kids club which was fairly clean although not very well equipped kitchen wise - although this didn't matter as we only made tea and toast in the room. The pool area was good but the tiles around it got very slippery. The animation team were brilliant and worked very hard, especially Robin who was "under training" whilst we were there. The Thomson kids club was excellent and our 10 year old daughter spent loads of time with the reps. The reception staff were very helpful and the cleaners worked very hard. Costa Teguise itself seems neglected and needs some work done on it especially the walkways. Some great bars and restaurants to eat in including Vesubio and Bar Vali, which were near to the Galeon Playa, and the Sunburnt Arms, Saxos Bar and The Bulldog had good evening entertainment when we got bored with the hotel entertainment after 9.30pm. All in all a good holiday with fantastic weather (not even that windy!)"

"We stayed at the Galeon just after Christmas 2006 and to be honest we were slightly concerned having read recent reviews. The Galeon is situated in a fabulous location and only a short walk to the beach, bars and some fabulous restaurant "Via Mayor" being the favourite and the food and staff were great.
The Galeon staff were very friendly and helpful, the maid service was every couple of days. The rooms were very clean as was the whole complex. They seem to be doing a lot of general up keep to the playa galeon and many rooms were getting new bed matresses and new linen. During our two week stay we couldn't fault a thing about the complex we were staying at and it's an ideal location. The children seemed to be very well looked after and were kept entertained. All in all, a good recommendation and we would love to go back there soon."

*read if u have babies*All in All not a bad stay
"me and my friend decided on a late booking with our 2 4 month old babies, we arrived in mid day only to get to the room to find we had no cots etc...But within 3 hours they arrived, i must say the staff need to speak more english!
The room was huge Just what we wanted, very clean and the balcony was big too, the maid was excellent! she tidyed so well even the babies smelly nappys bless her, the towels were changed everyday as did the bed sheets, we were directly oppisit the bar so we thought nighttimes would be a problem, But as it happens it wasnt loud at all and the babies got off to sleep very well, food wasnt all that but we ate out each night LOADS of differnt places to eat and all lovley too, mexican, indian, chinese, steak houses etc.. wonderfull!!
The pools was clean altho FREEZING apperenrly heated,Pffft no way! no lifeguards either so watch ur kids, the entertainment wasnt bad good for familys, we were even dragged in to a nightclub with two small babies, must admit was funny! tho we was the only ones in there,
Overall For a 3 star hotel i say its worth every penny, if u could stop the wind then a great holiday! shop over road sells everything u need pampers baby food etc... milk wipes, excellent!!"

"Our first time abroad, so didnt know what to expect.
Costa Teguise is very flat,, I am a wheelchair user , so could go from appartment to anywhere I wanted withoutm hinderance.
The hotel appartment we had block E room 71222, out of reception ,up small slope into hotel, turnleft, door on imediate left.
appartment was very clean, maid service every day, clean towels.
BEWARE THIS ROOM and others nearby ARE VERY NOISEY, too near the club. the niose also echoes within the nearest passages and between buildings.
We were self catering so cant comment on food there, But CT has a super range of resturaunts and bars plenty of shops. You cuold happily spend a day or two in CT if the weather is too bad to go on the beach.
Nights can get "chilly" so take a jumper.
Hired a wheelie frrom a local company, who is NOT conected to the hotel, they are very good, new equipment.
Probaly go back (if we had a different appartment.
abd explore the island more, next time.
We flew with Thomson (from Cardiff) and the service was very good, Thomson staff are a creditm to themselves. (slight hiccup in Arrecife, due to communication)
Cardiff airport is very wheeie friendly.
LOOKING AT TRAVEL BROUCHERS ALREADY FOR NEXT YEAR. Alan"

Good friendly hotel
"I found the Galeon playa to be a good hotel. The pool area was excellent, very clean. Sun-loungers are available but if you want a matress it cost's a Euro a day.
We stayed in the front block and had a balcony overlooking the sea. The appartment was very spacious, and self catering equipment was very good, we even had a microwave. The maids came to clean the apparment every day except Sunday. They did an average job. Tickets for meals at the hotel are availavle from reception, however we didn't eat there as plenty of restraunts around the resort to choose from, and a small supermarket across the rd for hotel.
The nightly entertainment was very average, if you have small children they will love the mini-disco, but otherwise i would give in a zero out of ten. The hotel children's entertainer Jesus was brilliant with the kids and kept them entertained during the day with vaious activities.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpfull. The Thomsons reps as usuall were fantastic and doing a great job.
I will return to this hotel."

Good Hotel ( But not Very Clean)
"We have just returned form a week at the Galeon Playa and are sorry to say the Three Stars they claim are not deserved. Overall -- Holiday was Exellent and the hotel was obviously exellent whenever it was built BUT....
It is never a good sign when the room you are given isn't clean....... and looks like it has not been cleaned properly for months....... and then for the staff at reception to completely ignore your requests to have it cleaned.... for a day and a half...
When you have a One year old baby and have to sleep on top of the covers your first evening for fear of what lies beneath.... the room was nice layout etc BUT had ants hundreds of them .... almost everything in the room with the exception of the mirrors was dirty. As were the hall-ways leading from the reception to the room, Every cup and dish in the kitchen, The floor, the windows, the toilet, need I go on.......
The room eventualy was cleaned the second afternoon only after moaning at the Tompson Rep-Nathan an execellent bloke !...
Despite all of that Once the Room Blitz Squad Did there job, the room was clean, the Cleaners leaving Bug Spray Can for the ants... The Rest of the Holiday was Great.........
Good Children's entertainment.... Some very frendly staff....JESUS is top class... The Barman of course excellent... and the shows were Good....... Perfect for the Kids......
Hotel Location is Almost Perfect......
Shops, Banks, Cafes, Beach, Perfect if Hotel was Spotless........
Would Happily Return if Cleaning Improves....."

"we had also heard negative comments regarding galeon playa,so were quite worried.however we were lucky with our room as this was away from the bars. Our room was clean and on the top floor,no evidence of any ants.We were bed and breakfast and the restaurant was very clean and the food very good.I can see where the bad reviews come from with this complex as many apartments are situated above bars and restaurants on the main street and would have been very noisy.I did hear a lot of people complaining to the reps. This complex is very basic and the communal stairs a bit dodgy and one handrail was hanging on by not much more than a nail,so couldnt be held onto. However the staff were very pleasant and the pool area and corridors were also clean.we had a good holiday and didnt have any reason to complain.
I WOULD SAY IF YOU STAY THERE ASK FOR A ROOM AWAY FROM THE BARS,then holiday will be fine."

Met our Expectations
"At this moment in time, I am sat in the reception of the Galeon Playa, waiting for our coach to take us to the airport. Obviously its not the best day of the week but this will be an accurate representation of our experience. Like everyone else, wewere reluctant given that there are some bad reviews. It is everything you would expect from a 3 star. There are ants, but mostly outside and a few indoors. The wood around the doors etc. is worn and the walls are thin, but again, what do you expect from a 3 star. The service is excellent and the pool was always full. Don;t go on excursions with the tour operator, we found them a lot cheaper with a company called Luton, or Last minute travel. I would recommend the north and south tour, 35 Euros per person but with lunch included. Its 4 euros for a pint and a half - and don;t forget - if someone approaches you with a scratch card and tells you, you have won a camera or money, don't feel ignorant - JUST WALK AWAY!! They only want your money and keep you in an office for hours. The market is nothing special but the area itself is nice. 2 beaches close by. We went to Fuerteventura in Feb, this is the same only windier! Nice weather. We were in E block."

"Located next to two brilliant beaches and all amenities, the Galeon was well placed for us to enjoy our holiday with our grown up grandchildren.
The apartments are clean and comfortable, and maintenance staff are on hand if you need a bulb replacing etc. Cleaners came every day except one.
The restaurant buffet meals were quite varied and well cooked by Pablo the chef, and the waitresses were really helpful and friendly. Reception staff were efficient and helpful.
We were lucky to be in a quiet block, as some apartments were located above shops and bars. There was some noise at night, but that was down to boozy Brits. I would recommend the Galeon.

Always a relaxing, enjoyable, care-free, feel-good holiday - it ticks all our boxes
"For a few years now, my husband and I have been coming for two 2 week breaks a year in Spring and Autumn. We like both the Apartments and the surrounding locality. Initially I goggled the area and what drew me to the Galeon (as opposed to other places) was it is only 3 story high and its convenient location to everything and all on the flat. Just across a quiet cul de sac and you are on the Aloe Vera lined sea wall by a small, quiet, safe beach (like a lagoon with no waves). I can leave hubby having a kip in the room, wrap a towel round me and safely pop out for a swim in the sea, a shower and a dry-off in one of the 'out of the wind' seating areas and get back before he wakes up. A larger stretch of sandy beach is a pleasant short walk around the sea wall which has seating areas to watch the waves on the lava rocks, past the ice cream parlor (so many flavors - we have to stop), then a bar with tables outside in the cactus gardens overlooking a small boat harbor (free tapas, cheap drinks - another stop!). There is a vast choice of reasonably priced bars, supermarkets and restaurants all near to suit all tastes and a craft market. Clubs or rowdiness are not 'in your face'. The excursions (or hire a car cheaply and do your own thing)are good as they cover the islands many interesting places to visit with great scenery - do not miss the crater route in the lava field in Timanfaya National park or the lava tunnel Jameos Agua - see on Google before you go. I love the local artists sculptures and influence on the island. Tourism hasn't spoil it.
The Galeon has something for everyone with friendly, helpful staff giving attentive service. The rooms are spacious, basic (but all that we want - who cooks full meals on holiday?). The main pool is heated - not allowed to reserve sunbeds, no need. Rooms, gardens, pool - everywhere is so clean and well maintained. The pool bar is handy with free WiFi, admittedly we don't use the other bar much preferring to go out nearby to watch the sunset, or quietly relax with wine on the balcony. We often use the very reasonable Buffet restaurant (mainly Spanish food), which has improved with a new chef (who often can be seen cooking fresh fish and steaks) and varied dishes. I dont eat meat, but there is always plenty for me (stuffed!!)and the staff are excellent, giving personal service and help if you want. We find it all ideal - good value for money. What would I change? I personally don't like to hear upbeat music from the loud-speakers in the pool area (I prefer softer background music to relax to which you get occasionally)or the animation team announcing activities and then doing them in the pool area, but you expect that type of thing with young people and families. I would not want to come on this type of holiday in the middle of Summer.
