no room ready when we arrived at 1pm
"lovely hotel spoilt by reception staff 1 in particular was very rude to me. No room ready on arrival at 1pm no explanation just told it would be a hour ! patiently waited till 2pm still no acknowledgment from reception even though we were sat directly in front of them, people were arriving in dribs and drabs to be shown to there room. My partner approached reception at 2pm to be told still no room again no explanation. Bearing in mind it was over 30 degrees we had been traveling since 4am that morning, by 2.50pm i decided to ask again at reception i was asked who are you i proceeded to say i really needed a room it was hot and we were tired, to be asked could i take some clothes from my case and change in toilet, to which i replied no i want a room. I was then approached by the rudest male receptionist ever to be told room wasnt ready and that was that, i asked why was it that people were arriving and being shown to there rooms after us to be told " because there rooms are ready" i have never been so annoyed on arrival at any hotel in all my holiday years have never had to complain about staff but he was so abrupt, after all that embarrassment another member of staff just leant ove desk and passed me our room key. Really upset me and spoilt my experience. No Tui Rep on site until 2 days before we left i emailed Tui on arrival home but am still waiting for a reply 4 weeks on."

A relaxing break
"We have just returned from a week's stay at the Gloria Palace. The rooms were spacious and clean - fresh towels every day, soap, shower gel and shampoo replenished daily too.
The hotel is in a good position as both Amadores and Puerto Rico beach can be reached via the cliff top path. The path is easily reached by the hotel's elevator and a walk of approximately 10 / 15 min walk in either direction will take you to either beach area. The hotel provides a range of day time and evening entertainment ranging from archery to bingo! All meals are buffet style. The dining room overlooked the sea and food was varied and plentyful however the downside to this was that food was never REALLy hot. Drinks service during meals is general good but be prepared to wait during the busiest time of the evening (8 - 9 o'clock). The pool area is clean and spacious - plenty of comfy sun loungers are available for guests' use. If you hire a car then underground parking is available which is a BIG plus! We would use this hotel again mainly due to the spacipousness of the rooms and it's super location."

Gloria Palace is worth a return visit!
"We had a very comfortable twin bedroom with terrace. The food was excellent, view spectacular, and the pools outstanding. We had all inclusive and it was more than worth it! Service throughout our stay was efficienct and courteous. The spa on site, for modest additional charge, was phenomenal. I am returning this year (2007)."

Not worth the money or 4 star rating,
"We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel, it was under rated as the quality was not as expected for a 4 star rating. The rooms were run down and in need of updating ,they were not very clean , the air con often didnt work in both the rooms and public areas. The water was often turned off without notice so no bathroom facility could be used. The bar service was slow and poor with long waiting times to obtain drinks & snacks , often the pool bars were understaffed and customers were told to come back later for food orders. The staff often didnt understand English and would openly show their frustration to the customers by being rude or just ignoring you ....This service was terrible. The restaurant food was often cold and not replenished so the choices were repetative. Some of the reception staff did try to help. The public areas were clean & sunbeds available, the entertainment was ok but being there for the full evening meant difficulty getting served. Over the years I have stayed in many 3 star hotels that would knock spots off this in terms of quality & service ........ a very expensive way to spend a week with constant bad service. Would never return."

Prepare to be ignored at Gloria Palace San Augustin if you are English
"My husband and I visited this hotel for 1 week late August. This was our first forray into the "all inclusive" category and we were expecting to be able to access areas at our leisure and not worry about taking cash to the pool etc. Gloria Palace in San Augustin predominantly caters for the Spanish client and although I do speak some Spanish, this hotel is not a place to go if you are English.
Drinks, snacks etc finish at 11:30 for all inclusive guests and after that guests must pay. Spanish guests were always served before anyone else. We experienced horrendous waits lasting up to 30 minutes on numerous evenings to be served by the waiters at the only outside bar serving drinks (the inside bar is being renovated and out of access) We tried to ammend this feeling of being invisible by standing at the bar to be served, only to be told by the bar staff to sit down and a waiter would attend to us. After getting more and more frustrated, we had to resort to returning to the bar and refusing to move until we got served. Even at the bar, English guests were still made to wait. The waiters knack of knowing you are there, yet never maintaining eye contact for longer than a nano second, so they can sweep past you and serve others, is first class! Even when I spoke in Spanish, I did not get better service from the bar staff. One evening we tried to attract a waiters attention at 11:10 for a drink. He stood less than one metre away, acknowledged me with a glare and walked off, only to return at 11:35 to say "All inclusive finished senora , you pay now" This became a regular occurence at the outside bar each evening. My husband and I are not huge drinkers but found it impossible to order more than 2 drinks all evening from 9:00pm - 11:30pm. What should have been a relaxing week away, turned out to be a frustrating, annoying cat and mouse experience, trying to get served for items, that as an all inclusive guest, we had actually paid for in advance! It is a great pity the bar staff let this hotel down. I can count on one hand how many times the bar staff at Gloria Palace San Augustin said hello, smiled or even acknowledged English guests. The few English guests we found at the hotel confirmed our findings and we would never return to this hotel. We did visit the Gloria Palce in Amadores one afternoon and the staff there were the exact opposite, offering a cheery smile and "Hola" each time they saw you.
Reception staff at Gloria Palace San Augustin were pleasant and the rooms were the largest we have ever stayed in. Meals were fine, nothing spectacular and on a par with some 3 star hotels we have stayed in . In fact the 3 star Hotel Presidente in Portinatx Ibiza is infinitley better than this 4 star !
However there is very little to do in San Augustin itself. A small, dirty shopping centre is a short walk away and no beach to speak of unless you travel further away. Gloria Palace is not a welcoming hotel for the English and as for all inclusive....don't bother, at this hotel it is definitely not worth it."

A balanced view
"I booked this hotel largely based on the reviews on this site. I aim to present a balanced view of the positives and negatives based on a stay of 2 weeks in August for 2 adults and one teenager.
The family room size is excellent. Could easily accommodate 2 teenagers in the separate bedroom or possibly 3 with another bed added. A fridge was useful. Room safe is good but does cost (we had it free for some reason). Our experience of room cleaning was not as good as others suggest. I know that there were 4 or 5l days in between cleans, although fresh towels were left. Bathroom was dated with usual black mould in places and one some days served as ants motorway to next door. Air con all worked great. TV in room but no coffe or tea.
One great singing trio in 2 weeks. Other than that pretty poor shows of parrots, and local organ player combo's singing Viva Espana.
OK for meat eaters and fish eaters but no veggie main course for our daughter so she lived on salads and basic pasta. There is a variery to be fair but it is the same variety every day other than the meat fish choice ( 2 of each).
generally very good, especially the guys at reception who will ring the airport or taxi without problem. Some of the restaurant staff will whip your plates away before your last fork full.
The gym is excellent, aside from no air con which means that you cannot last more than about 20 mins in the humidity. Such a waste.
Excellent - go to Maspalomas not Playa Del Ingles beach.
Seemed ok. Wife and daugther happy with massages. Be careful in the changing rooms as the ceiling is leaking over wide areas from the pool above. They clearly have no idea of electrical health and safety.
Pretty good. 2 pools, generally clean (not always) and usually plenty of beds and free pads.
It is mainly Spanish and German visitors which means that the kids are well behaved and there is no swearing and shouting around the pool. It also means that you have to get used to jumping queues or risk missing out.
What's not so good?
Having stayed at many 4 stars in the past I really think that this hotel is at risk of dropping its standards as a result of the all inclusive brigade. Be prepared to queue at the bar while the blue wrist bands commandeer the seats for drinking sessions. The bar staff are clearly outnumbered and this can be seen in the general cleanliness of the bar. It is not good. Check your drinks glasses for stains and smudges and especially the glasses and jugs that are hung around the bar on hooks.
The cleanliness was not great in our experience. There were cots and rubbish left on stairs for a week at a time. This hotel is beginning to show its age with floor tiles missing on steps and general signs of wear and tear.
You cannot rent an iron board. The hotel have none.
Internet ok at 1 euro for ten minutes but it is located in a glass house so you cannot use it without losing weight in the day.
Food - repetitive with no theme nights and often only luke warm .
Location is ok, but not great if you suffer when walking up hills. Taxi's are quite cheap though. Shops are a down hill walk away across a busy road (bridge). Only a small car park if you hire one.
This will appear pretty good if you normally stay at 3 stars or less. If you are a regular 4 star plus stayer you will not be over impressed but will rank it as ok. If you can get it on a late deal for a good price go for it. If you are paying top price, look at something better in the Maspolamas/ Faro area it really is much more stylish. It is better than staying in the Britified Playa Del Ingles though.
Don't use the pay phone near the hotel it is much more expensive than the pay phones in the resort. Do use Victoria Car hire in the local shoppoing resort. Their cars are new, clean and cheap and Roger on the desk is good humoured.
Don't miss Faro or Port Mogan (Friday market), these are by far the most attractive resorts on this side of the island (golden beaches).
The yellow submarine tour at Port Mogan is ok. Lasts about 20 minutes under water, 40 minutes in total. Make sure you get your boarding ticket at the quay side or they will make you re queue. Don't expect to see anything bigger than reef fish and an old wreck, but is good to say you've done it.
If you don't mind driving on steep windy roads, take the perimeter drive around the island. The scenery in the north west is magnificent. You can do the whole island drive in a day and stop off for a swim on the way.
Overall - Majorca is better for variety and style and Minorca is better for beaches."

"Returned 2 days ago from this hotel and was really impressed. The Gloria Palace is a huge hotel which stands proud in the cliff side overlooking the sea. It's clean and the staff are very friendly. The food was lovely with plenty of choice both at breakfast and evening meal. Our family room was huge with 2 separate bedrooms, plenty of storage space, mirrored wardrobes etc., there was a large bathroom with 2 sinks, bath and shower and 2 separate balconies. We had a fridge which we could stock with our own drinks which was a plus. There were plenty of beds and parasols around the 2 pools and you could hire their towels too if you wished. The only down side was the resort itself. It was very quiet with not much to see or do although the hotel does provide entertainment, it's not to everyone's taste. The guests are mainly Spanish but that wasn't a problem. There is a free shuttle bus to Playa del Ingles if you wanted to get out and about. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone. Enjoy!!!"

"Good hotel. One thing i loved about this hotel was the rooms. Where the best I have stayed in, very spacious and always very clean. One downside for us and this is only trivial was the buffet sytle dinners. Felt too much like you where in a rush and constant noise at dinner made it more of a chore. But as we went half board we changed our dinner meals to lunch meals, which was great!!!! Lunch was so much better then dinner and alot quieter too. Good hotel, good location and fab views. Would recommend!!!!"

"Stayed a week all inclusive at the hotel. The rooms were very spacious and cleaned everyday. Found staff to be very friendly and helpful. Never had to wait long to get served at the bars. Plenty of sun loungers. Thalassotherapy centre was also very good and had a well equiped gym. Food was outstanding - plenty of choice. Also had a different theme for dinner each night e.g. chinese, mexican etc. The views from the hotel were amazing as it is build into the cliffside facing the sea. Also had lift access which took you directly out to the promenade so no climbing any hills! The lift access to the promenade closes at 11.30pm but only costs 3 euros to get a taxi back from Puerto Rico centre (recommended as it is not well lit on the promenade at night). Would defintely return to this hotel!"
