Can't Fault it
"Just returned from Sol after spending a great week there. 1st impression when opening the apartment door was the smell of bleach--- a nice sign of cleanliness. The rooms are clean tidy and in some peoples eyes basic , but hey your not spending that much time in them but they do have everything you will need including towels that are changed regularly. Nice pool area with bar and food with welcoming and friendly staff, Hayley the manager being especially good fun. Good position for shops and bars with them being across the road in the shopping centre but still quiet at night. Best recommendation I can give is that I would recommend these apartments to friends and family and will also be going back next year. Ian C"

"We have just returned from Sol y Paz and had a wonderful time. We travelled as a party of 5 adults and 2 children (a son aged 2 and a daughter aged 4 months).
The apartments were ideal for families with young children, with there being only 40 apartments it was small, safe and very friendly. Our son was able to run around without disturbing others and we were able to rest with him safe.
The food in the bar was excellent value and could not be faulted, the home-made Mojo sauce was outstanding and must be sampled.
A free BBQ was put on every Tuesday night and this was a really good night. Hayley the lady who seemed to do everything hosted the night.
The only downside was the fact there was no microwave, which would have been useful for the children and the pillows which unfortunately were truly awful.
We would have no hesitations in returning there again"

"My partner and i were booked into Sol Y Paz with my 8 year old son when the holiday we wanted was not available. We read the reviews and it sounded good.
It was better than the reviews. The weather was better than forecast. It was about 24-26 degrees every day.
If we needed our towels changing we just left them outside and the girls brought new ones so that wasn't a problem. The owner- Hayley- was lovely. The food was good and we were right across the road from all the shops and bars.
The rooms are basic but clean. Who wants to be in any way?
The pool was chilly but the sea was lovely and warm. It was only a 15 minute walk down the steps into the town. (I don't know where people get 40 minutes from). It is a hilly place but the exercise is good and it was probably only 30 minutes back up the hill- shorter if you used the steps.
We wished we had booked to stay longer and are already thinking about it again for next year."

Heat treatment at the Sol y Paz
"Stayed at the Sol y Paz in Oct 2007 having been redirected from our chosen apartment. Overall it was a good swap. Despite being at the top of the hilly resort, the complex was low rise & good for wife with walking difficulties. We were not looking for luxury, but this was very comfortable, despite the incessant DJ from the Eden at the rear. A great family-run complex. We'd love to go again, but can't get a booking. How did others book?"

"As with the other reviews, excellent place to stay, Towels changed once, had same bed sheets the whole week, that would be the only complaint. Owner very helpful, apartments very clean. In house food good. There was a free BBQ at the end of the week but we missed it and apparently was very good. Our complex was quiet. Not much noise from the other hotel although any noise finishes at 12mn. No Curfew. Each apartment has a security safe at a very reasonable price, well worth the purchase. Internet access 24 hours a day coin operated. Pay per view TV at 1 euro per hour, 5 channels. On your last day if your flight is late take off 9pm at night one has the option to stay in the apartment for 20 euros and it was well worth it. Just across the road there is a Shopping complex with supermarkets and pubs and places to eat. centre of Peurto Rico is a brisk 40 minutes walk downhill, but get the taxi back up, unless superfit, prices range from 3.50 to 4.00 Euros. OVERALL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

Can't wait to go back!
"Like all the other reviews before we took a gamble on staying here. There were no photos on any website but the reviews were quite good.
For those travelling to Puerto Rico all accommodation is basic.
The Sol y Paz is located on the top level beside the Europa shopping complex. No shortage of bars & restaurants. The BARBACOA is pretty good for food & entertainment. Taxi rank at the front gate and a pretty cool crazy golf course for a good laugh. Taxis are cheap for anywhere so don't let the location put you off.
At the Sol y Paz it was similar to where we have stayed in Puerto Rico. Appartments were spotless clean and well maintained. The bathroom was a little on the small side but no shortage of hot water. The welcome we received from the staff was second to none. The snacks from the snack bar were very good. There was a real homely feel about the complex. On one of the nights they provided a free meal and entertainment for all guests. I would reccommend this to all staying there for a good night.
The pet parrot "Rafeal" is a great laugh. You'd be surprised what he can say.
Only possible negatives would be a little noise from the complex next door that happens now and again.
When leaving the staff came out to wave us goodbye.
We had a great time and will definately stay there the next time we go back to Puerto Rico. I don't think we would stay anywhere else.
Excellent value for money. Would rate the complex higher than what it is. If you were like us and unsure, take the gamble and go."

Not the place for a quiet break
"Sol y Paz translates as "Sun and Peace". Unfortunately there wasn't very much of either during our stay. OK, so the apartments can't be blamed for the changeable weather, but there were some other problems.
After we returned home we were surprised to find out from one of the other reviews that the apartments have only been open for a matter of months. Although they are far from dilapidated they did not appear brand new. The sheets on the bed had holes and cigarette burns in them. Although the apartment was supposed to be cleaned 3 times per week, ours was only cleaned twice and the towels were only changed once during our week long stay.
The main problem was the noise, both from the pool bar, the complex behind and some of the other guests. There was a mix of people of different age groups staying but we were in between groups of people who liked a late night and a fair amount of liquid entertainment. The walls are very thin so everything can be heard, including someone being sick next door at 3am.
The hotel complex behind, however, was responsible for the vast majority of the noise. They played loud music from early afternoon until around midnight and also had a Kids Club and bingo every afternoon. The staff did not seem to understand that turning down the volume on the PA system was even possible. This made it difficult to relax around the pool or have an afternoon nap. What made it worse was that the staff at Sol y Paz tried to retaliate by turning up the music at the Pool Bar. Why listen to one song when you can try to listen to two at the same time - it's much more fun!
On the plus side, the apartment was furnished to a basic but acceptable standard. The apartments are positioned directly across from the Europa centre which has plenty of bars, shops and restaurants. Try Amadeus for some superb food and excellent (if a little odd) service.
Hire a car if you can and do a bit of exploring. Puerto Mogan is only half an hour away and is delightful.
Overall, Sol y Paz is fine if you want a cheap holiday with your friends, but not a place for couples or anyone wanting to relax."

"I booked a late get away for myself and my partner. I took a chance on the Sol Y Paz... it was rated a 2 star and there was no pictures of the hotel on the internet and very few reviews!!! For £200 each i thought it was a bargin and worth taking a risk. On arrival the apartments looked great... quickly checked in and went check out our apartment.....had excellent kitchen, space and a nice bathroom with a shower. Bedroom had 2 single beds but what else you expect for £200 each... i was very suprise of the apartment as it was very clean and was cleaned 3 times a week and the staff are more than friendly. There was a pool bar which served food all through the day and of course drinks. Overall this accomadtion is excellent vaule for money and would recommend this to anyone on a tight budget. Not all 2 star apartments are as nice or clean as this so this is a big YES to everyone. Also the location is at the top of the hill of Puerto Rico and the hotel is opposite the Europa Centre where you can drink, eat and have every good evening and there not taxis to pay out for !!!"

"I' ve just returned from a week at the Sol Y Paz apartments in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria. I booked (literally days before departure) 2A allocated on arrival.
I travelled with 3 friends, all of us ranging from 18-21 and had a cracking time. The accommodation consists of 40 x 1 bedroom apartments, all of which are small but kept clean. Apartments are on two tiers, with 20 on one side, a decent sized pool with kiddies section in the centre, and 20 rooms facing opposite. Something which was fab about this property was that hot water was never a problem. There is also a poolbar at the property which servces reasonably priced snacks, meals and drinks.
Although its a 2 star property, the service was second to none and nothing was too much trouble. Cleaners even folded guests towels into the shapes of swans!
Location wise, the Sol y Paz is situated directly across the road from the Europa Centre at the top of Puerto Rico, where there was a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants. This was a lot smaller than the Shopping Centre down the bottom, and altho it was (so im told) 600 odd steps down to the bottom, there was a bus stop right outside an taxi rank across the road. It only cost around 3 euros to get down to the bottom of the hill where the main nightlife, harbour and main beaches were. which, between 4 of us cost nothing.
I' d not been to Gran Canaria before so it was good to visit somewhere new. Puerto Rico itself was nice enough, with everything in one main area within the shopping centre. Touts were one of the downsides to Puerto Rico - whilst you get them everywhere- it just felt here as tho you were being pulled in every which direction possible. A bar that we loved over there was called Harleys - go there!
The only downside was that there was a Thomsons property - the Eden, which was directly behind the Sol y Paz. It was presumably an all inclusive property, as loud entertainment played out from the afternoon through to the early hours. I understand however, that the owners have frequently had words with the Eden owners and are on their way to getting this sorted in order to keep their own guests happy.
The Sol y Paz has only been open a month but from what we saw, it is a property that we would definately return to."
