Faulty Towers has nothing on this dump
"I am currently staying in the disgusting excuse of an apartment complex, the KOKO Apartments, upon arrival i was greeted by 2 hotel staff more intersested in talking to the cleaner than me, a paying guest. Ecentually after 35 minuts of waiting for them to finish there conversation I was checked in and told the entrance was around the corner, having walked "around the corner" and then more corners I had to return to reception only to be told access was out onto the street and in a different building. Arriving to my room I was greeted with a door that didnt lock, and on opening said door i was hit by the smell of paint. The apartment itself is clean however my dogs live in better conditions than this room, the beds are so small i hang out th bottom, the wardrobe is from th 1970´s and the kitchen, well you would not dare cook in it. The toilet does not flush and the hot tap on the sink doesnt work, i am now on my 3rd day waiting for all of the above to be fixed, I am that disgusted i have booked a flight home.. FOR THOSE BOOKED, THINKING OF BOOKING OR EVEN LOOKING AT THIS PLACE ...... DONT IT IS THE BIGGEST DIVE YOU WILL EVER FIND "

The good, the bad .................
"Just returned from week at the Koka. The good. Swimming pool area, one of best pools i`ve been in (mainly to cool down!)plenty of sunbeds. Stayed in a top floor studio - superb roof terrace Position. Brilliant for buses, right on excellent bus route.5 mins to brill prom too The bad. Position. Next to Kasbah centre, Banging "music" until early hours. No air con, sweltering nights, phew!! Koka is dated in the main, could do with upgrade in parts The ugly!! Cockroaches with scratch cards and people CONSTANTLY pestering us to drink in their bars, yuck"

Excellent value for money
"I have just returned from a 5 day break at the Koka apartments. After booking last September I read a few bad reports on the place and was a bit sceptical on my arrival as to what I might find. The reception area is clean, bright and welcoming. All the reception staff both day and night were very courteous and helpful. I was shown to my 1 bedroom apartment just off the reception area which was very convenient. The apartment was clean and freshly painted, the bedroom had 2 comfortable single beds, with decent quality bed linen and pillows, extra blankets (all clean) were in the wardrobe. The wardrobes themselves were 1970's MFI and in need of replacement but were able to store my clothes. The bathroom was clean and all taps, loo and bath / shower functioned well with plenty of hot water. The marble floor and walls were a bit tired and would benefit from a makeover. The lounge with kitchen area was bright but very basic. A leatherette bed/sofa and one chair, no cushions and a dining table and 4 chairs plus two small coffee tables. The kitchen area was very clean and obviously not the original but the cupboards were on their sell by date. The crockery, cutlery, glasses & pans, were all spotless and could be used without rewashing. The gardens and pool area were immaculate. The large pool had been replaced recently and was spotlessly clean. A nice poolside bar with pleasant girls serving drinks and snacks made the whole place welcoming. The complex must be about 40 years old and in common with many other blocks in Playa del Ingles is in need of refurbishment. At the Koka a lot of this has been done but there is still more to do. A major rewiring of the blocks is going ahead but apart from a few exposed conduit tubes was not an issue and did not cause any disturbance. Vermin and cockroaches are a problem in Spain, particularly the Canary Islands because of the warm climate. It is obligatory by law for complexes, and restaurants to have the premises fumigated once a year. The fumigation certificate for the Koka is displayed in reception and dated 26th December 2009. I can say that in 5 days I did not even see an ant, and I was looking. The price for a 1 bed apartment in March diplayed in reception is 75 euros per day. I paid 35 euros per day through Atropelo agency. This is the low end of the market and there are a lot newer and nicer apartments than the Koka at a lot more money. My 5 day stay cost me 178euros and I deem that to be excellent value for money. I have no problems with the place and will be booking next year and suggest you do too."

"We waked out after being offered 2 disgraceful rooms!!How anyone can stay here even if it was FREE beats me!!! No lights on at reception no lights in corridors, No sheets on beds, mattresses were filthy bath was rusty wordrobe doors were hanging off. Cooking area was a disgrace. 1 plug socket in kitchen area. I wouldn't have my dog stay there!! Corridors had wires hanging everywhere, were dark and dirty. Staff were ingnorant! Pool and garden area looked fine but never stayed long enough to try. We ended up paying another £300 to book into another hotel as we just couldnt stay there it would have ruined our holiday. We were not expecting it to be great but we could never of guessed it would be that bad!! I am very surprised it is still trading the place is falling to bits!!! "

"Had a fantastic time here, the service we received from the day we booked our holiday in the Thomson travel agency in Belfast until we arrived home was excellent! The apartments were always busy and great craic! We were only a short walk away from the resorts main facilities and didnt have to leave the apartment complex every day as there was so much going on within it. I would recommend the Koka apartments to anyone looking for a lively summer holiday! Will be booking here for next year asap!"

"i spent one week in the koka apartments in september and it was utterly disgraceful. we arrived at 3am pitch dark and told our apartment was around the corner, spent 40minutes looking for it and after finding it wanted to go back home. it was filthy, the lock on the front door didnt work and ther wasnt even a lock on the patio door, we had 2 terrible beds no pillows and the room was tiny. after complaining about it we were told there was no other rooms available and had to stay. the door locks were fixed the day before we left, i would definatly not recomment these apartments to any one. "My boyfriend and I are just back from a week's holiday to the Koka apartments in Playa de Ingles. When we first arrived we checked in at the reception and the hotel staff seemed friendly enough , however when we were going to find our room we had to walk back out on to the street and find a separate building in order to get to our appartment, which was quite confusing and not well organised as we were just told "It's round the corner". However, apart from that , when we eventually found the room and got settled in , everything else went generally smoothly, the hotel was right beside the kasbah centre and was perfect walking distance after a few drinks at nighttime. We cannot complain about the cleaning service as maids came to our room everyday and the place was left spotless. The room itself is very basic, and not for someone hoping for 5* luxury, as you all know , you get what you pay for, and in our case that wasn't very much. If you enjoy sunbathing and the pool area, then there are plently of sunbeds. a massive pool and a pool bar and snack area which is also very handy to grab something to eat when it's too hot to walk long distances and the pool area is immaculate. Overall, I rated this hotel a 7 out of 10 as we found it clean and comfortable and in a good location, but the lack of direction and helpfulness of the staff let this hotel down. "

Great location, but pretty basic...
"Stayed at the Koka with my friend (both 21yr old girls) in November for 4 weeks. The location was great for nightlife with the Kasbah literally a minutes walk away. We were in a studio apartment, and although really quite basic (2 beds, toaster, hob, and table w/ 2 chairs) it was sufficient. We did nickname the apartments The Kokaroach, but there were really only a few small ones. We did speak to people on higher floors and they didn't have the problem. The pool was cold, but you got used to it once you were in, and it was empty most of the time when we were there. Sunbeds-a-plenty too but then it was Nov. Staff were friendly, especially the night receptionist Josef, Marie Pico from the wee shop and Alejandro the barman! We would definitely stay there again purely for it's location. Just don't go anywhere at night alone, the area is prone to a mugging or two...."

"We stayed here from 25th November for two weeks. In the taxi from the airport I was really nervous, as I had read some awful things on here. When we arrived we were put into room 2316 what a surprise bearing in mind that we paid £236 for two for two weeks it was perfectly ok. The only small problem was a smell in the bathroom that smelt of wet rag, but apart from that it was real good value for money. We were overlooking the pool and could see the sea in the distance. The only thing that put me off Gran Canaria is the wind all the time and when the sun went in it was a little chilly. I would not hesitate to use these apartments again if I was going to Gran Canaria."

"We stayed in the Koka apartments in Gran Canaria 15th Oct to 22nd Oct. We stayed in a self catering studio which was disgraceful in every way. On complaining about the room on the first day we were told that the hotel was full and that we should come back tomorrow to see if they had a room free. We did and were told the same again in a very hostile manner. Extremely helpful staff not! The description on the the website was flattering to say the least. There was not room to swing a cat. There was very little to cook with and no kettle. The TV that was in the room was one euro per hour. On it it stated the best English movies. All the channels were foreign apart from CNN. DefinItely no movies. The mattresses on the beds were knackered and you could actually feel the springs. The lock on the door was terrible and temperamental, some times we could not get in at all. On one such occasion we went down to reception and the member of staff told us to wait which we did for half an hour. His overall attitude was poor as were other members of staff when a problem occurred. Must be their training! The room, not only was dated beyond belief but were extremely dirty. The âmaid serviceâ if you can call it that was a joke. The two times she came in she merely mopped the bathroom floor with an extremely filthy mop and that was it. If it had not been for the fact that we were in bed on both of these occasions we would not have known that we had a so called maid. To make matters even worse she proceeded to leave us with the same towels all week which were already dirty to start with. We were forced to use our beach towels. The hotel was a three key and should definitely be re-graded. I would say if I was to be honest calling this place a Hostel would be too kind a word. We both cut our holiday short. "
