Full Of Germans

Reviewed Tue 16th of October 2012

"Hotel was very efficient for its people but there were some problems.

The check in people were very awkward and abrasive, the food was fairly lacklustre and there were next to no english people there.

On the brighter side, room service was very good, it was very clean hotel and it had facilities and was in a prime location for all the local bars and cafes.

Id recommend this to any audience, in particular partners but not so much young singles.

Great Hotel!!

Reviewed Thu 15th of November 2012

"Excellent hotel. We stayed here for a week April 9 to April 16 2007 all inclusive. The check in procedure is quick and efficient the room was very clean with daily maid service and towel change when requested (by leaving towels in the bath).

The food was very good with a reasonable selection of dishes each meal and absolutely fabulous desserts! The drinks in the all inclusive option were good. The only small drawback with the all inclusive was that the times of snacks were very limited and no variety just a few ham sandwiches. This was fine if you ate every meal in the dining room but if you missed a meal you had to wait until the next one. This is one of the few things I could find to grumble about.

The pool area is fantastic with plenty of sunbeds with comfy matresses.

The animation staff were great and tried to involve everyone which is a job in itself. While we were there, there were people from England, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Romania, Italy, Spain and Sweden and these were just the ones I remember. Any entertainment has to be very visual to occupy everyone. They made us laugh and deserve massive applause for the job they do.

All the staff are friendly without being in your face and were polite at all times and work very hard to ensure that your stay is a good one.

All in all this an excellent hotel with high standards for a 3* we would definately consider staying here again if we returned."

Good Value, Clean!

Reviewed Sun 25th of November 2012

"My family and I stayed in the Hotel Continental from March 15-19th. We had 2 rooms and payed around 650 Euros for the room and half board. The entire hotel was very clean, and the staff was efficent. The food was decent, breakfast was good but dinner became repetitous with pasta, fried potatoes, and a boring selection of meat. The hotel is not directly on the beach. It's about 3 blocks from the oceanfront, and even that is not the main beach. However, the nicest beach (with food places and chairs/umbrellas for rent) was only about a 15 minute walk, a very nice walk along the boardwalk. There is a small selection of stores in the hotel, and plenty of stores close to the hotel. The hotel was very clean, and a good value. In the rooms there are no coffee pots, alarm clocks, hairdryers, and a very small TV. Nice balcony, however there would be traffic noise from all rooms in the hotel, as it is near busy streets. Luckily, I'm not a light sleeper. If you want something upscale or a bit closer to the beach, try the IFA Dunamar, but if you want to save some money while being in a comfortable hotel this is the place for you!"

Fantastic Hotel

Reviewed Sat 17th of November 2012

"Just spent a great week at the IFA Continental.
Majority of guests are German but if you don't bother them, they don't bother you.
The hotel in general is kept very clean ... staff are going around most of the time keeping on top of everything.
Maid service every day except Sunday.
Dining room was a delight ... the choice and quality of the food was excellent. If you couldn't find anything to suit then you must be very hard to please. One of the highlights was the champagne breakfast on Sunday.
The pool area was very nice, the only problem being that the sun didn't appear around the building next door until around 11am, so parts of the sunbathing area were shaded.
A ten minute walk to a small beach nearby and about twenty minutes to the main beach.
Definately stay here again if we go back to Playa Del Ingles."

Fab Hotel

Reviewed Sat 17th of November 2012

"Myself and my girl friend have stayed in this hotel twice now, July 2003 and 2004 and if we ever return to Gran Canaria we will no doubt stay there for a third time.

Firstly all the staff are very helpful and they all fluent in at least 3 languages each, Spanish, English and German being the main ones. The hotel is spotless and the rooms are a good size each with there own balcony.

The swimming pools are excellent and more importantly clean. The official hotels photos of them do not do it justice. The hotel also runs many activities in and around the pool to keep you occupied during the day if this takes your fancy.

The hotel is located close enough to all the main night life centres but far away enough so you are not effected by the noise at night.

The negatives of the hotel are few and far between but to try and bring a balanced there are a lot more german tourists than uk guests. This does not bother me personally but I know this can be a factor for people when booking a holiday. It can also be difficult to get a sun lounger as, yeap you guessed it, the german guests put there towels down first thing!! In addition to this the second time we stayed we were placed in a room right above the bins and a main road so all we herd all night was the clanck of bottles as they hit the steal bin and traffic. We were however moved the to another room the next day when I complained. Finally the food, generally the food is of good standard and is served in an impressive dinning room, but it is mainly aimed at the german guests.

However, please do not let these negatives deter you from booking this hotel. It is an excellent hotel and as I said at the beginning if we return to gran canaria we definitely be staying here again."

great hotel

Reviewed Thu 15th of November 2012

"I went to gran canaria as a first holiday with my boyfriend and we loved it.
the hotel itsself was fantastic.

pool -
brilliant, the surroundings where brilliant the water was immaculat and the sun loungers where always available, there was a pool for children wich had itsown slide which was fantastic (so we tried it out a few times) .most of the pools where cold exept for one which ws heated, which was nice and it had a heated jucuzzi in it, i honestly cant stress how nice the pool are was. at least 4*.

the rooms where very pleasant and clean aswell as being spacious we also had our own balcony overlooking the pool. the bathrooms where always pristeen, the maid service was exelent, (we where on the first floor and the noise from the entertainment was a bit of a problem on the night we went to bed early , if you have children i would recomend you request i higher floor. )but the view was excelent .

the staff where friendly (if you spake spanish or german) they wernt very many english speaking staff, especially in the resteraunt and bar. but it wasnt a huge problem, also there are lots of germans, who are not very frendly.

we where half board and i thaught that was the best option, the breakfast had lots of choice, cereals, bacon egg toast, and then there was pastries fresh fruit ham cheeses and bread rolls, lots of choice and drinks are included(also one morning a week they put on a champaign breakfast wich was a nice touch).
the evening meal was nice but much of the same stuff however it was all nice and they varied the main meat dish every night, children would be fine plenty of chips gravy chiken veg etc,

first i must tell you about the resteraunts, there is a bar/ pub just up the road from the hotell called'Rockin jocks' and it does the most fantastic english breakfast and english meals aswell (for when you get sick of spanish sausage). also further up the road there is a japaneese called the slow boat or something like that and ask for you own room, the staff are excelent the food is outstanding , the atmosphere is brilliant and it wont break the bank.
for nightlife i would say go the the kasbah and start off on the second level where the pubs are go to 'molly malones' its an irish bar and you get a free cocktail with every drink, there is also a live dj who does drinking games and quizzes and you leave there very merry indeed. there is also a english bar on that level calles linickers bar wich has english staff and its a reely nice pub. the bottom level is where the nightclubs are and its brilliant plenty to do also go to china whites on the top level and pasha really good nightlife.

i wouldnt bother with the beach near to the hotell there isnt much to do there instead go the the main beach there is lots of watersports pleanty sun loungers and lots of pubs shops and resteraunts about. a reely good day and you get the best tan there.

you must go to the teneriffe excursion to loro parque the animals are amazing and it reely is a wonderfull experienge, however there is a lot of travelling to do aswell as the fred olsen ferry (the fastest on the 3 islands) as well as the bus trips i would say its about 2 1/2 to 3 hours there and back but well well worth it. you can also leave the park and exploor tenerrife, we went for dinner at the blacksand beach and went swimming there was lots to do and well worth the money.

overall we had a brilliant holiday and would deffinately go back, there are a lot of bad reviewes about this hotel but i think you make your own fun and if you look for faults you will find them. i hope this was helpfull xxx have a nice holiday xxx"

Good 3 *

Reviewed Wed 21st of November 2012

"I have to agree with some of the points as per the previous post - Although we found that all staff were friendly enough.

We went for 9 nights half board - just me and my partner - with thomas cook.

The german to english/any other nation ratio is quite high - but the staff all made an effort to involve us in the activities/evening shows - which by the way were well funny - the last post is spot on with this!!

I actually liked the walk along the front if you are fit it takes no longer than 10 minutes (to the main beach/area)...all the beaches in the resort weren't fab - but you have the option - we preferred the pool area - always plenty of lounges and they were always clean.

The food had some of the same things every night - but the main dishes always changed - breakfast was really good.

I also agree that the noise from the motorway was very low - you have to be a right fussy so and so for this to bother you - go 5 star I say!

The rooms were cleaned everyday and were quite big with a good sized balconey.

Basically if you need to charge your batteries this hotel provides the bascis and the rest is up to you - either join in with the germans - or sit back and have a laugh (which is what we did!)

I think it probably is a 3* superior."

Things to consider before you go

Reviewed Wed 21st of November 2012

"Moans and Groans:

The Hotel overall is actually quite nice; however it does have a lot of flaws that you should consider if you are thinking of using the IFA Continental.
In all the brochures it will say that you are a stone throw away from the beach, don’t be fooled by this. Although you are very close to a beach it isn’t the main beach that everyone uses. It’s a small beach which is surrounded by rocks, which nobody really uses (for a reason). You can walk to the main beach but it will take you about 20 minutes or you can easily wave down a taxi which will get you there in less than 5 minutes and will cost around 4 euros.

The German to English ratio is about 75% in favour of the Germans and although the entertainment staff try and cater for the English you can tell they feel much more comfortable speaking German and seem to speak as little English as possible when performing in the evenings and running the day-time activities. Talking of the entertainment, it was so bad that it was funny which kept me entertained however if you are someone who likes people with talent entertaining you, you won’t like it. They can’t sing (they mine everything), they can’t dance and their timing was laughable.

The reception staff are very nice and helpful and speak excellent English, however the bar staff were awful. If you are going all inclusive you have nothing to worry about but if you are HB or SC then expect to have to wait at the bar for 15 minutes every time you want a drink. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind waiting 15 minutes for service if the bar staff are busy but when you are stood at the bar on your own and there are 4 bar staff cleaning glasses, serving the all inclusive people trying their best to ignore you, it gets a little frustrating. I’m not 100% sure but I came to the conclusion that it must be because it was just easier for them to serve the all inclusive people because there was no exchange of money involved, just pour a drink and hand it over and serving people paying for drinks is more hassle.

The pool area is as good as the pictures in the brochure, however what you don’t see is that the sun doesn’t cover the whole of the pool area until early afternoon and non of the pool area sees any sun until about 10.30am so it will take you a couple of days to figure out where is the best place to be by the pool and once you figure out which are the best spots you will have to try and get there before the other guests. If you are thinking of putting your towel down to reserve a bed and going to breakfast, don’t. There is a guy that goes round and takes your towel off, even if you leave it for a minute there’s a good chance he’ll swipe your towel away. The other problem with the pool area is that there seem to be too many shady spots; if you look at a picture you will notice that there are a lot of tall palm trees and fixed sombreros so you find you have to keep moving the position of your bed as the sun moves which is annoying.

Good points:

The food was good; a lot of the same stuff but there was a wide selection so there should always be something you like.
The pool and Jacuzzis’ were excellent (nice and big). The rooms were good with nice a baloney and we didn’t have any problems with noise even though we overlooked the main street. The maids were very thorough and made sure the room was spotless.

Overall I would say that this is a justified 3 star hotel, however I wouldn’t stay there again. Although it’s a very nice and clean hotel in a decent location I didn’t like the pool area, the entertainment was rubbish and the bar staff are quite rude."

nice hotel

Reviewed Sun 28th of October 2012

"The hotel itself is very nice and clean , the pool areas were great for the kids.

We found all the staff very rude and un-helpfull except for the cleaners who were very polite and friendly.

There is no air-conditioning which was a nightmare with two small children.

We were all inclusive but every family member had to go to the bar themselves to get a drink , even a 5 year old which was very annoying.

The food was ok if you like plain boiled pasta , slop dosh chicken , rice and chips.
Breakfast was terrible unless you like french pastries.
The hotel was also full of Germans who were even ruder than the staff.

The area we thought was very nice with loads of pubs and restaurants near by , Keanes irish bar is good , buy one get one free on all drinks. There were lots of mini markets and shopping centres about which are good for jewellrey and electrical items aswell as gifts.

I would not recommend this hotel , especially if you have young children as the rooms are just too hot at night , we also had an open bacony that we shared with 15 other rooms so we couldn't even leave the patio door open.
If you don't go all inclusive , like the Germans, don't mind no air con and intend on eating out then it would be ok

"Ive just come back from a week in this hotel, the hotel itself is exellent the only problem is is...Germans!! The hotels full of them & i found it really annoyin as they have not yet learnt to use manners or use a que.

If your going half board then the evening food is ok but they like to put spices & herbs on EVERYTHING!, the breakfast isnt nice at all unless your just choosing to have some cereal, but if you go just up the road from the hotel theres "rockin jocks" which do a TOP english breakfast & are very polite!

The pools in the hotel are great, kept the kids entertained for a while!!
The night time entertainment was ok if you understand German/french/spanish, none of it is in english. but theres many shopping centers to choose from in playa del ingles try the Yumbo center & plaza!! really good!!

i found all the staff in the hotel misrable except the maids!
apart from the odd bits the hotel was very clean and a pleasure to stay in!!"
