Great Service

"We stayed at the Riu Palace from 30 June to 5 July on a half board basis.

The overriding impression we had was that this was a hotel that really wanted you to enjoy your stay and every member of staff from the manager through to the waiters and housekeeping pesonnel were friendly, welcoming and service focused.

The food here is excellent - a massive selection at the breakfast and dinner buffets.Table service is available but the buffet offered us the best choice and the hotel managed to maintain a pleasant dining atmosphere despite the scale. Restaurant staff are particularly professional with great attention to detail. On the night we arrived we didn't get to the hotel until after midnight but a cold meal was waiting for us in our room - very thoughtful and unexpected.

Rooms were good and well maintained and the pool areas are very pleasant. We really liked the location of this hotel - it's away from the main hubbub of Playa del Ingles but within walking distance of shops, restauarants and the night life. It' s also a 20 minute hike over the dunes to Maspalomas Beach.

Downsides? There's no inroom internet facility but a room with internet enabled computers is available and was never busy. Noise insulation between the bedrroms could be better and there is a silly 3 euro daily charge to use the inroom safe. We had to hunt to find sunbeds round the pool - we always managed to find somewhere but the hotel policy about not reserving beds with towels did not seem to be enforced.

Although the majority of guests here are on packaged holidays we didn't feel packaged in any way and were treated very much as individuals. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and, as base for a relaxing break, would recommend this hotel without hesitation."

Wonderful Hotel Everyone is Treated Special

"Brilliant Hotel
Having just returned from a great Family holiday at the Rui Palace I must say what a lovely Hotel it is and so very well staffed, everyone was so friendly and obliging and the rooms we had were ideal, on the ground floor with a private walled terrace so it was safe to let our toddler grandson play without the worry of balconys etc { i would recommend these rooms for families} the staff were so nice with the baby and they all knew his name and he Came home saying hola to everyone he loved it there .
The food was excellent with a vast choice both breakfast and evening and along with all the other great facilities they have to offer it made for a wonderful holiday.
thanks also to trip adviser for the reviews which we find a great guide

Wonderful hotel

"Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel with my wife and 13 year old daughter.

Impressive building that stands large with star quality right at the end of the resort of Playa Del Ingles.

The hotel has stunning views over the awesome sand dunes of Maspalomas where we walked each morning before breakfast.

Fortunately the hotel is placed at the end of the Playa Del Ingles resort and so you really needed to spend little time in PDI itself. PDI was not so impressive but then we hardly had cause to leave this superb hotel.

Service with a capital "S" from the moment that you arrive is the hallmark of your stay.Ask for something and it is done quickly, with style and a minimum of fuss.

Super dinner and breakfast on Half Board and the terrace for breakfast is a great location.

Pools are great temperature with no chill factor whatsoever.

Spotlessly clean.

Will return."

location, location, location!

"A lovely hotel with stunning views of the Maspalomas sand dunes. Rooms are a good size and well furnished, and the staff are all friendly - and expect to be tipped accordingly!

My only complaint is that the tables in the dining room are a little on top of one another - this was especially noticeable in the evening, not so much of a problem for breakfast when many choose to go on the terrace."

Fabulous Hotel!

"Returned home last Monday after spending a week at the Riu Palace Maspalomas.

We travel several times each year and are also frequent visitors to this island. We have also stayed at two other Riu Palace hotels in Lanzarote and Madeira. However, the Riu Palace Maspalomas is without doubt, the best hotel we have ever stayed at.

The standards of cleanliness and comfort, together with the quality and choice of food and facilities, plus the superb location of this hotel overlooking the maspalomas dunes are superb. Our only regret was having to return home to the UK!

We can't wait to return!"

hotel management

"During our 7 days stay in the Riu Palace Maspalomas Hotel, we encountered a few insuperabilities concerning the service.

In a recently 'renovated' hotel, you expect an internet connection in each room. Not in this hotel: a very small, hot 'facility' without any windows, with 3 worn out computers, from which the keyboard signs are totally faded. You'll also find a little 'library' in this room: very inconvenient when people are walking in and out while you try to concentrate on your work! On top of all, this hotel dares to ask 1 euro for 10 minutes!

In a classy hotel your expect to find an icecube machine on each floor or at least a tray in the minibar located in your room. Since there is no roomservice in this hotel, we daily had to call the bar/restaurant, very hard since most of the staff does not speak any English and sometimes they simply told us that they were too busy and that we at least had to wait for half an hour!

Some of the 'waiters' in the restaurant don't seem to be very well trained, f.i. they ask you if you have finished your meal, while it's obvious that that is not the case. Without asking, they pore more wine while your glass is still half full; they take your plates in an unmannerly way (even over your head). And, last but not least, one of the trainees lifted her legg, placed the bottle on her knee in order to open our wine!
A few times we had to ask for another chair since the construction was not too steady anymore; the carpet is totally worn out and dirty! After about one hour, the staff starts already the preparation for the next day, giving you the feeling that it's better to leave!

The path going to the dunes seems to be 'upgraded' by signs promoting the Riu Hotels; very odd that some where along that road a very old vehicle is parked, with inside the foodleftovers. Filthy liquids are dripping out of the car, causing a horrible smell and ofcourse attrackting cockroaches!

Eventhough it's clearly stated that you can't claim your 'own' chair at the pool, everybody rushes out early in the morning to do so and after 11 o'clock it's not possible to get pooltowels anymore!

2 times(!) I sent a mail to the management but they even don't bother to answer!"

First Class

"Just returned from the Riu Palace Maspolomas - where do we start! First class Service treated like royalty, food delicious Outstanding Quality - try the Specialities restaurant you will not be disappointed. We tried three different themes and all were very nice! We were pencilled in to have our meal times at 8.30 but after a little persuasion with the Maitre De we changed to a 6.30 time which we found suited us better.

Rooms were large and very comfortable King Size Beds Maid Service was daily nice touch of a Swan made out of a towel whilst we were there. Fantastic weather wish we were still there.

As one waiter said to us I will speak with the manager to see if you can stay an extra week! - later came back and said the Manager said Yes!! what a fantastic sense of humour these people have and so assertive nothing is to much trouble - we tried to move our drinks onto another table the waiter stopped us and moved them for us!!.

We will return!"

Outstanding Service , Great Food , First Class Location for night life !

"My partner and I have just returned from a week at this wonderful hotel .
Its hallmark has to be first class service from a marvellously customer- focussed team who blend professionalism with humour and a disctinct lack of starchiness , which was very refreshing .

The dunes of Maspalomas are as close as they could be , as is the extraordinary night-life of Playa del Ingles . The food in the main restaurant was outstanding and the service about as good as it gets !

I lost a ring down the sink and called reception who assured me it would be found . The plumber arrived at 9:00 on the dot next morning , exactly as promised and , after nearly an hour of determined effort , he emerged triumphant , having practically dismantled the pipework . At dinner , a member of the team came to my table expressly to enquire as to whether my ring had been found . Our enduring impression is that a great deal of thought , effort and understanding has gone in to delivering first class customer service with the gentlest of touches and a great deal of fun !

A most unusual experience and a place which was very hard to leave ! You will not be disappointed and we will be back !"

5* Hotel, can't think of a single complaint

Me and my family, stayed at Riu Palace Maspalomas from 6/8/05 - 21/8/05 after cancelling our holiday to Egypt. (due to the bombing) After staying at this hotel, we are more than convinced that we made the right decision to swap holidays this year.

Here is a few short reviews on facilities at and around the hotel:

There are 2 pools, both in gorgeous surroundings. One has water jets, and currents, to swim against, whereas the other is more freeform, and bigger. They are both more than adequate to accomodate the guests at this hotel. We have been to previous hotels where sunbeds are like gold dust...however, at the RIU palace, whatever time you get up, sunbeds are always available somewhere around.

The rooms are lovely. They are kept spotless by the pleasant maids and they are an adequate size. Most of the rooms have a sea/pool view, and therefore you get a superb view of the amazing sand dunes. The TV is ok, although only 2 english news channels.

The food is beyond belief in this hotel. From the soups, to the deserts, everything is done to perfection. Whether you want waiter service, or just a quick nip to the buffet, it is entirely up to you.
At the beginning of the holiday, you are allocated either 6.30 or 8.30 for your evening meal. It seemed that families with young children were normally given the 6.30 slot, but even if you were not happy with your time, many people requested to change which the staff dealt with efficiently and easily.

There could not be a bad word to be said about any of the staff at this hotel. They are all extremely pleasant, and greet you in every area of the hotel. At the evening meal, they all stand either side of the doors to greet you as you enter for your food, which is lovely. Reinforcing another of these reviews, the mamager of the hotel greets EVERYONE at the start of their holiday personally at their tables, which we thought was great.

Sand dunes:
These are AMAZING. i dont think you actually believe what these look like, until you see them for your own eyes. They are magnificent. However, just a few tips:
Dont walk bare foot on them after 11am as it burns your feet
Dont take the marked route to the beach, as it takes you on a wild goose chase. Take a path more to the left, which aims for the sun umbrellas (although this is the nudist area of the beach, it is quite funny)

Extremely efficent, and very only pay a fixed price from a metre, and pay for the length of the journey, not the time spent in there, or the number of passengers.
Tip : dont go to las palmas....everyone told us to visit the capital, but it cost us a bomb to get there, and was of no interest at all. Its quite dirty, built up, but does have a few little nice shops in the old town part.

The location is ideal, as you can easily get to Melonaras (a posher area of gran canaria...or a short walk into the centre of playa del ingles, where all the shops and nightclubs are) If you want an entertaining evening and dont mind being in a less up market area, try the Yumbo shopping centre. It is hilarious, especially the transvestite bar :)

We give this hotel 10/10. We cannot think of a single fault about this hotel. If you want a relaxing 5* hotel, with delicious foods, cleanliness, lovely pools, enough to get to, and sufficient entertainment book this hotel. U will NOT be disapointed.

Simply, a very good hotel.

Just back from a week at the RIU Palace Maspalomas and it was a great hotel.

The food was first class for a buffet and you even get the choice of a la carte table service at another restaraunt if you wish...a full 4-course meal at no extra charge!! In relation to another post, we were able to change the seating times of our meals to suit with no problem. It may depend on the season.

The staff there could have not have been nicer with even the Manager coming around at dinner to speak to the new guests and welcome them which I thought weas a nice touch! The hotel itself is very clean and tidy with great maid service.

I was mildy dissapointed with the evening entertainment (eg cheesy ABBA tributes) but with Playa Del Ingles only a 5/10 min walk or the main bars (English, Irish and Yumbo centres) for the younger crowds only €2-3 taxi fare, it is ideally placed for both peace and quiet and the lively scene.

There are tennis courts, internet facilities, a gym, plenty of loungers - standard for a 4-star hotel really. The hotel itself doesn't offer much in the way of excursions but these can all be arranged through your operator.

Put it this way, I've already began to reccomend it to my friends and family."

A very large hotel, which is situated on...

"A very large hotel, which is situated on the outskirts of Playa De Ingles with fantastic views of the sand dunes and sea. The resort centre is a 5 minute walk away, which unless you enjoy loud bars, discos and ‘Blackpool’ style attractions then best avoided.

The hotel was part refurbished in 2003 - the extensive pool area is fantastic - 2 main pools one with waterfalls, water jets, sunken sun beds in the water, a Jacuzzi and a children’s pool. all of which are very clean, there is lots of space around the pool, comfortable sunbeds and towels are provided.

The hotel restaurant (also refurbished) is very impressive - 2 meal sittings in the evening both buffet style - overall very good quality food and a huge range, catering for the majority of tastes - peak times are a little busy & you may have to queue.

Staff in the restaurants and at reception are all very helpful and pride themselves on quality service, perhaps the only negative point regarding the staff is that they are not particularly ‘child friendly or tolerant’. The hotel does not really cater for young children (no children’s entertainment or kids club) very few children in the hotel, so if your looking for a hotel where your children can make friends you may be disappointed.

The hotel rooms are the weakest point - they are comfortable and clean (but not overly clean !) The fixtures and fittings are tired and well used - the bathrooms are dated and showing the signs of age but have everything a basic bathroom should have.

Out and about - the beautiful beach of Maspalomas is on your doorstep but be warned the sand dunes lie in between the hotel and beach ! - a challenging walk, difficult with children but well worth it as the white sand is endless and the sea is clean and warm.

Overall a very good holiday, fine food, fantastic pools and a lovely location near the beach, not ideal for children, stay in the hotel, go to the beach or venture out to Meloneras but avoid the resort centre at all costs!"
