A little bit hit and miss
"We were a family of 5 adults who had booked a 2 bedroomed apartment, with lowcostholidays. unfortunately the hotel had no 2 bedroomed apartments and we were squashed into a 1 bedroomed. As you can imagine this was not a very agreeable turn of events. On complaining to the hotel on arrival we were offered a extra room for 200euro which we refused to pay as we had already paid for this facility. 5 days into the holiday lowcostholidays offered to move us to a sister hotel (Sahara Playa), but as our holiday had been disrupted enough we declined. El Rondo is a very average and a dated hotel, pool area ugly and boring. Staff very friendly and helpful though especially reception. Food was a bit hit and miss often over salted and overcooked. Although they do have a Chinese buffet on most nights which we were very glad of. What saved the holiday from being a complete disaster was the use of the Miraflor Bungalows opposite the El rondo. Beautiful pool area with fab bar. Although was busy due to rubbish pool area in El Rondo. Great entertainment team who worked tirelessly to involve everyone (Fabio, Ali, Matt, Sam, Gabby and Ilone) thank- you so much. We would not return to El Rondo because of food and dated hotel. "

Lovely Hotel - Lovely Staff
"Hi, myself and my fiance stayed here over the New Year. Was slightly unsure on first impressions (it was 0500am tho!), but what a lovely holiday we had. Rooms are really spacious, almost like a mini apartment are were spotless the entire week. TV a bit of a let down..only a couple of english speaking channels. But then who goes on holiday to sit in and watch tv! Poolside area is quite small, but the poolside bar serves well. Restaurant lovely. A good mix of buffet style food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had New Year's Eve in the hotel and there was tremendous effort made to make the food and the evening a special event. I recommend going All Inclusive. Apparently, the difference in cost between AI and half-board is minimal. The staff here are above and beyond their english counterparts and nothing is too much trouble for them, They go out of their way to please. Entertainment was practically non-existent, even on New Year's Eve, but there are plenty of pubs/clubs a 5 min walk from hotel. The hotel bar only serves all inclusive til 10pm, you have to pay therafter. Kids entertainment was good. Jerry, multi-lingual, is a great all rounder and the kids of all ages and nationality took to him well. Completely recommend this hotel and will definately consider staying there again."

We stayed at the El Rondo over Xmas and ...
"We stayed at the El Rondo over Xmas and New Year and really enjoyed our stay there. We arrived on Xmas eve and our children were greeted in the lovely sun by Father Christmas who brought presents for all the kids that jerry the entertainer had arranged. We were given a family room that comfortably fitted 6 of us in though I would have been happier with more wardrobe space. The rooms were cleaned regularly and linen changed frequently too. The entertainment the kids loved although did become quite tedious by the end of our ten day stay as it was the same songs played each night but jerry did his best and all the kids loved him. We thought the all inclusive bar stopped too early(10.30) as you were often waiting a while for a drink as only one man often ran the pub bar from 8pm and he tended to serve those he favoured first and could just blatantly ignore you. Jose who ran the pool bar was great a breath of fresh air, he was funny, hyperactive and great with the kids. The only problem I found was that the hotel mainly caters for the Germans, the food was catered for them and they sat TV was too, not that we go on holiday to watch TV but the kids could have been entertained by a cartoon channel or movie channel like the Germans had. We loved our stay and will definitely return to the El Rondo."

Nice Room Shame About the Mice
"We stayed at this hotel over the New Year Period but due to the "extra guests" in our room we only stayed there one night. The hotel is not very accessible for those with pushchairs - when we arrived we had all our luggage plus small baby and pushchair to carry down a huge flight of stairs, so first impressions weren't good. When we checked in we requested 3 rooms but were given 3 on separate floors which we were really disappointed with as my mother in law was very nervous about sleeping on her own nowhere near us. We went back down to reception and they managed to find us 2 rooms on the same floor so that was something. Our room was nice and large with a small kitchen area plus a bedroom and a living area with 2 sofas. The hotel provided us with a travel cot which was good. We only stayed for one evening meal - and the buffet was very nice. I would say that 50% of the hotel guests were male and gay as the Jumbo shopping centre is nearby and has lots of gay bars. We went to bed early on our first night and watched telly in bed while our baby was sleeping. I saw a mouse run under my bed and then run back out the room again about 5 mins later. I thought I'd imagined it as I didn't see it properly so we went to sleep. Then at 1am I woke up to hear the mouse on the bedside cabinet next to my husbands head! We had left a crisp packet there and it was in it!! I was terrified. We got up and moved into the living area and slept on sofas - though we didnt sleep a wink! We could hear it in the kitchen area, then I heard it by my sons pushchair. The next morning we found droppings under my sons clothes. I was distraught to say the least. We told the receptionist who agreed to move us to a bedroom further along the corridor. Luckily my husband saw a poster asking guests if they would like to be moved to the Sahara Playa Hotel (the Rondos sister hotel) for no charge, so we jumped at the chance. The Sahara was lovely and did not have any extra guests!"

"First of all the rooms are very spacious, and are cleaned 5 days out of 7. We were there for xmas and i must say that they made a great effort. Santa came with gifts for the children xmas eve and a real effort was made with the evening meals over the xmas period. Breakfast was typical all-inclusive, lunch was a bit disappointing but edible. The all-inclusive bar in the disco finished 10.30 which i found was a bit too early but you can still pay for your drinks after that time if you wish. Sometimes it was difficult to get served drinks in the disco bar but the pool bar in the day was much better, service with a smile! The pool is small but the water was too cold at this time of year to use it anyway. Plenty to do in playa del ingeles if you wish to venture outside the hotel, lots of shopping and bars. Yumbo centre is a 10 min walk and the beach is about 15 min walk. We found a few nice bars just walking out and about. Over-all we had a good holiday and should we wish to return to playa del ingeles i would definitely look this hotel up."

Fantastic Food, Great Rooms
"We had a fantastic time at Il Rondo. We just wanted a week in the sunshine to escape the madness of Christmas and this was just the ticket! The rooms (we had a family room) were spacious and clean. No kettle, microwave or toaster but these items were not essential to us. The hotel is a short walk to the Yumbo Centre which caters for the gay scene on the island. The majority of residents at the hotel stay there because of this location. Also, you won't find many british here. When we stayed I think there was one other British couple, the rest being mainly German or Dutch. The food was fantastic, although the breakfasts got a bit tedious towards the end of the week. If you are after a beach holiday, the hotel is about 15 min walk away although they do run a shuttle bus from the hotel. There are some beautiful walks along the path at the coast. To the left is the long and beautiful walk to San Agustin. To the right is the stunning dunes of Maspalomas. Be warned though - it's usually very windy at the beach so wear eye protection otherwise your eyeballs will get sandblasted! All in all, we had a lovely week and would def go back!"

excellent value for money
"My partner and I have just returned from this hotel and found it to be exellent value for money. We had booked the hotel independently via a website and it cost just over £80 each for 7 nights half board. The hotel rooms were a good size and the maids cleaned 5 out of 7 days. The breakfast and lunch were good in that there was a very good selection, and always something to please. Through the dining room to the right is a chines buffet and they served currys, chicken with black bean sauce, various rices and even pizza. The salad bar on an evening was very extensive, and the main meals ranged from goulash to beef to chicken. The food was tasty and we only ate out twice . The pool area was small but ample and a variety of music was played during the day. The hotel had a few english couples and families but was mainly occupied by germans and mostly male gay couples. The staff were also very friendly .On an evening there are various centres around the resort and we found a fabulous restaurnat called ' Patio de Canario' near the Irish centre which served lovely steaks for around 8 euros. We found the nightlife good in the irish centre as most bars had duos singing irish songs and various others accoustically. The bars mainly operate a buy one get one free but it can cost the equivalent of £10 a round for 2 people depending on what you drink. We were on a budget holiday and flew with jet2.com and the return journey wasn,t good in that a week before we left they changed our flight to go to Newcastle via Manchester, which comibined with the 30 minute delay leaving gran canaria ended up with a flight scheduled to leave at 8.10pm ending with us collecting our luggage at 3.30am. A handy hint is the local number 66 bus which leaves the airport at 20 minutes past the hour . You can find the stop by exiting the arrivals hall, turning right and crossing the road. Journey cost was 3 euros each way, which saves a lot on the average taxi fare of 31 euros each way. The bus leaves from the second roundabout down from the Il Rondo on the right hand side of the road at 23 minutes past the hour. As a straight couple we wouldn't recommend the yumbo centre as it catered mainly for gay males .All in all a very good value holiday."

"I went to the El Rondo in September for a week with my fiancé and a friend of ours and we had an absolutely brilliant holiday. The hotel was very clean and our apartment was spacious and had a balcony. The food wasnât bad but we didnât eat there very often because we were out partying. The hotel itself was in a fabulous location near all the shops and the beach. The pool area was brilliant with plenty of sunloungers and there was a policy where you werenât allowed to reserve them the night before (I think they were aiming this at the Germans when they wrote this). We would all definitely go back to Gran Canaria and stay at the El Rondo - Fabulous hotel and excellent location would definitely recommend it to anyone. "

Fantastic Hotel and Staff very good value for money
"We travelled to Gran Canaria with our 3 children aged 6,8,10 and this was our first foreign holiday since 1996 and with children. Arrived at 0100hrs and found checkin very friendly, offered free fruitjuice for the kids and bottled water to take to the room on arrival. Shown to very large room which was immaculate and had maid service 6 out of 7 days so no need for towels. Then down to breakfast which was made up of continental and cooked, lots of breads, cheeses fresh fruit and cooked meats and the usual egg and bacon in buffet style. Staff were so friendly. We then went to the Pool area of Il rondo which is small but we found we could keep a close eye on our 3 children. There is a larger Pool area accross the road at Miraflor Bungalows which is free to use and has a bar which is part of the all inclusive package. In relation to the Bar the Beer was San Miguel and the kids had choice of Branded Drinks (Coke & 7up etc) and juices. Wines were free as were local spirits and cocktails. Lunch and dinner were excellent offering lots of variety and a chinese buffet everyday except Friday in the evenings. In additon to this pastries made available with tea and coffee in the afternoon from 4pm. Ice cream also available all day. In relation to entertainment it was limited especially , the host "Jerry" put a lot of work into things and the kids loved him particularly his kids disco. He spoke several languages which was helpful as most of the guests were German/Dutch. The hotel also was very Gay friendly but behaviour was not overt and in fact our family found the manners and conduct of the hotel clients better than a group of rowdy couples or straight groups. In summary this is clean, friendly small hotel and provided everything we needed for our childrens first trip abroad"

Great 3 star tourist Hotel
"We stayed here half board in May and loved it Very clean with a large room, really two rooms , the bedroom and small kitchen and two more beds. Cleaned six out of seven days. The hotel rooms don't have air conditioning but you can hire a unit which is delivered to your room with the hour. Food was good ,better than more 3 star tourist hotels in Spain. A large cooked breakfast and a good choice for the evening meals. The hotel is in Spain so why do people thing that they going to serve up banger and mash! People please think. The staff are quick and very friendly The pools not overly large but big enough and very clean. There is entertainment in the hotel but is mainly for the older Spanish guest. The location is great about 10 min walk to the Yumbo and i bit further to the other centers. The guests staying here at the Rondo are a really mixed bag, young, old, straight and gay. Good news gets around. All in all a great hotel with the benefits of an apartment that will suit most couples"
