10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Our previous experiences with gay resorts were negative, so we went there with some trepidation.
To our surprise the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the grounds very well kept, the bungalows nice (you can always argue about decorum but it wasn't overly offensive). The only downside was our bathroom which has passed its due-by-date some time ago and is in dire need of renovation.
We definitely recommend Villas Blancas and are considering ourselves to book them again. However, we would only go for the new bungalows which looked quite a bit better than the old ones."

Good but too quiet
we were at this hotel at the beginning of December and it was quiet. The resort is well maitained, the occupancy was at about 40% but there was no atmosphere, it was very quiet. The camp music around the main pool it one major negative point about that place. The other one where you can bring your drinks is quiet and relaxing. We felt we were missing some of the action that would make it a great place to be and to meet other people.
The clientele was mainly spanish and few british and french. We spent few days at the gay beach and by seeing so many tourists there we were wondering where were staying all those german guys ? We guess they were at some private appartments located all around but really missed their presence there.
The owner is very helpful, the staff at the bar and cafe is very nice too. Overall a clean and nice place but we found there was missing some international crowd."

Much Better Than Last Year!
"As per the previous last two entries I was impressed with how this resort has continued in its friendliness and cleanliness standards. All staff from Manager to maid were excellent.
VB2 - the new addition to the complex is the main reason why we went back to the same resort last year as they advertise the new pool to be quieter. Last year the camp disco music by the one pool did get too much, however with the new extension and new quiet pool, it did not disapoint.
Of course you cannot control the music that is played out of the bungalows surrounding this quiet pool - some noisy swiss residents moved in during our week there and played almost non stop a disco version of Oliva Newton Johns "Lets Get Physical"!!!!! Either they got tired of it or they were spoken too but that only lasted one afternoon out of a one weeks holiday.
All the taxi and Yumbo comments in previous comments are correct however there is one final reccommendation I must provide. Faro 2 is a shopping centre no more than a 10 minute walk from the Hotel with a range of restaurants for all ages and tastes. But you must try a least once an Italian Restaurant by the name of Michelangelo. Without a doubt the best Itailian Food I have ever tasted! Well worth a trip and resonable too!
I'm glad I gave VB another try as without the quiet pool Im sure I would not have done.
Future plans for the resort I understand is a jacuzzi and sauna so watch this space."

Top Notch Quality for the price....
"I spent an excllent week in July in the VB2 part of the complex. The new part has opened recently and has 6 villas all around the quiet pool (which is a good size). The villas are very spacious and clean if not a bit basic decoration wise. Perfect for a group of friends because there are 3 bedrooms. The kitchen is well equipped, and the bathroom spacious (double sinks). The terrass is a nice size but provides some privacy whenever necessary...! Daily maid service. The bar in the resort is great - good friendly service, excellent food at very decent prices. The music is somewhat camp around the second pool (ranging from "panpipes do Madonna" to full on Abba, Céline Dion etc....) but all good fun. Internet access at the bar. The gardens are really well tended. The other bungalows (OK I visited quite a few...!) are smaller but ideal for a couple with seperate bedroom and kitchen area. Of course lads being lads the place becomes somewhat cruisier as the night goes on (its fairly subdued during the day). The walk around the complex at 2 or 3 in the morning is good fun.... ;-)). The beach is quite far on foot but taxis are easy to find and cost no more than 4â¬. A trip to Yumbo takes 5 mins and costs 3â¬/4â¬.
The price is great for a stay here - I travel very often and I will most definately be returning to Villas Blancas. In fact I can't wait!"

"I just spent 10 days at Villas Blancas. Really very nice and clean - and wonderfully peaceful too. Nice pool and the option to sunbathe and swim nude if you wish. Laszlo was very friendly and helpful - couldn't fault anything - even the maids were very friendly! No problem with access to Play Del Ingles (Yumbo) always managed to get a taxi (cheap too) when needed.
I am booked to go back again in September! I am going on my own for the first time as I was so chilled out by the end of the holiday in April - hopefully i can persuade some friends to come too! Failing that it seems quite easy to get to know fellow residents as a solo traveller!"

good place to stay.
"I have stayed at villas blancas a couple of times now and I really like it. It is far from 5 star accomodation but it is clean and simple, now its better because of modernised bungalows and yes the pool is cold! The food is very good in the evenings, when I have eaten at the Yumbo centre the food has been really poor and it makes life a lot easier to eat in the complex. You just have to be lucky that there are friendly people about when you stay, I was there March 2007 over carnival time (bad mistake) and the crowd were not very friendly but myself, boyfriend and a friend made up 4 it. Most accomodation in Gran Canaria is average and I do not think u can beat this. Unlike Mykonos where taxis are very hard to get it is easy to stay in Maspolomas as cabs are 4 euros and very easy to get, except for carnival season!
I totally disagree with one of reviews. Laszlo the manager is very nice aswell as the staff at the bistro. I would highly recommend booking flights and accomodation seperately as you will save a lot of money. I would highly recommend it here."

Better than the rest
"Having stayed at the other 'gay' places in Gran Canaria I decided to give Villas Blancas a try. I travel to GC about 5 or 6 times a year and have had a couple of bad experiences at the other places. Bad service, bad attitude, poor value for money.
I'm pleased to say that I was delighted with the experience I had at Villas Blancas. The staff were friendly, the newly refurbished bungalows really comfortable,(leather sofas etc), and the food just brilliant.
Am going back there on the 9th April and look forward to another great, relaxing time.
Yes, it might be in Maspalomas, but it's only about 4 euros in a cab to the Yumbo and takes less than 5 minutes."

Best Gay Resort
"Have stayed at Villas Blancas every year for 7 years. Have also tried alternate places such us Club Tucanes and Magnolias.
Villas Blancas doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. It is a collection of bungalows - clean, quiet, and comfortable setting for gay men. Nice pool area, friendly staff.
It isn't luxurious, but no gay accommodation in Gran Canaria is. But it it is comfortable, and allows gay men to relax without fear of disapproval.
The resort has made improvements over the years (e.g aircon; CD players). Very good Bistro - much better value than loads of dumps in Playa del Ingles.
Will be going again for the 8th time in 2007."

Simply Awful! Never Again.
"We satyed at Villas Blancas over New Years just gone (Dec 06-Jan 07) and it was a complete let down. Let's see...the 'heated' pool was freezing at all times so couldn't really use it, the beds were quite uncomfortable - we had twins in our room, one was extremely noisy and the other one collapsed one morning (and not in a good way!), the bath was chipped in several places, the room didn't have a kettle so took forever to make a cup of tea and there was never enough hot water for 2 people, check-out is at 10.30 am and a request for a late check-out is not well received, and the apartments are quite dirty! When we spoke to the Manager about only a few of these issues (mainly looking for a simple apology) he suggested we moved to a different hotel and it was his attitude more than anything else that put us off Villas Blancas. We took his advice and checked out! However, the other members of staff were very helpful and friendly but that's not enough for us to ever want to return there! The place is probably more suited to aesthetically challenged, middle-aged men looking for anonymous 'encounters'! Definitely not for us."

First Rate Gay Resort
"If you are a gay man, this is the place to stay while visiting Gran Canaria. It is very well managed, the staff is excellent, extremely friendly (multi lingual)and the facility is top-notch. Bungalow style, with separate front room and bed room, nice bath room with shower/tub, fully equipped kitchens. The rooms and grounds are immaculately clean. This is a men's only resort (nudity is allowed on the premises), very international clientle. Nice bistro on the premises serves full breakfast, lunch and dinner along with snack and beverages (including alcohol). Villas Blancas has a large pool and lots of comfortable loungers to lay out in the sun. This is better than any of the Palm Springs, California resorts, a real find. Located just out of the city, it is very quiet, about a mile into the city center or to the beach or dunes. Cabs here are very reasonable (usually under $3 Euro). I felt very welcome and made good friends on my short 4 day stay and I am looking to return soon with some friends in tow to show them the wonderful hospitality."
