Lovely peaceful hotel
"We have just returned from a week at the Sheraton Hotel & Golf and spa, we have had a wonderful week, We had a Premium room which was very spacious , the 11th floor with the lovely warm pool was a very relaxing place to be, we also did some classes there. The views were amazing, it was really relaxing. The bus was always on time to take you to the beach and back and the staff were very helpful at all times, the only down side to this holiday for myself and my husband was the food, there was a good choice of salads but could do with a good chef, you have to choose your meat or fish and they cook it for you, but it was often under cooked , there are other restaurants to eat in which were nicer. On the whole we had a lovely relaxing break and would go back."

Have a think about it!!!
"We are just about to return from a week´s stay at this hotel. BEDROOMS - This was large, spacious, and modern but had a clear glass bathroom looking out onto the bedroom and balcony. The balcony had a table, chairs and also a sofa. Our main problem was the shower water, it was continuously boiling hot then freezing cold; this would be a major safety aspect if you had children. POOLS - FREEZING. The brochure and their own leaflet states that there are seven heated pools but this was not the case. The spa where the pool was slightly warmer is now out of action until the 20th September due to major refurbishments already. What a disappointment!! MEALS - SUPERB! Breakfast and evening meal. The chef was willing to cook whatever you wanted to your liking. The service was swift and second to none but bearing in mind the hotel was only 25 percent full. BUS- The shuttle bus to the beach house was always on time and carefully driven to Maspalomas but unfortunately the last bus was at 20.00 hours. There the beach house is clean and well equipped offering a towel service, ample showers, pool, drinks, and a snack menu. Even though there was only one person here the service was immpecable. LOCATION- WOW what a view we had. Overlooking the beautiful mountains and a immaculately kept golf course. This hotel is not a place to come if you like nightlife and late night shopping as it will cost you 15 euros each way for a taxi into the town centre of Melonares if you can´t make the bus times. The Sheraton Salobre could be one of the top hotels in the area IF attention was made to the above aspects. I would personally not return again until I was sure that these matters had been resolved."

Where is the service at the Sheraton Salobre?
"Well we 1st came in November 06 when the hotel had only been open for a few months. There were a few teething problems, but we thought such a beautiful hill top view and overall design of hotel would be worth another visit later in 07 once the hotel and its staff had time to settle in. We were, unfortunately, wrong! We´re here for a few more days yet and trying to enjoy the experience but this hotel has tried our patience every single day we´ve been here. Day 1 we thought dinner at the hotel main buffet service restaurant. Service was appalling - our table was cleared after only the starter and not relaid. Staff instead decided to watch us relay our own table. Day 2, we thought we´d book the nicest restaurant in the hotel, Cameleon - well appartently not. We turned up at 8 and although just 2 tables were occupied the restaurant turned us away with the explanation they were infact fully booked. Surprised we went back to the hotel´s main reception where they were also surprised and tried also to book us a table. With no luck they were told the restuarant was fully booked from 10pm. Still slightly strange as we only wanted a table for 2 at 8pm. We returned at 10.30pm to find just 7 tables booked leaving most of the restaurant still empty. We later spoke to both the duty manager and the manager who were both not able to solve the problem or come up with a rationale explanation. This sounds like a real moan - but my boyfriend and I have travelled the world and are really easy going. This hotel and its staff have really tried our patience. With the buffet service a disaster, not able to book a table in the hotel´s deserted A la Carte restaurant. Day 3 we tried room service. We were told a 30 minute wait maximum... wrong. 3 calls and 1 hour later (not to mention the manager apparently checking on the status of our meal!) it arrived cold & bland and the wine not opened by the waiter. We´re on day 4 now and have come to the conclusion that we must eat out every night to experience ambiance and anything reflecting a degree of service. Almost a comedy of errors, our 4th evening was spent in the buffet restaurant where we have had to call over the restaurant manager having found a chunk of mint chewing gum stuffed into an apricot!!!!! Totalling disgusting and for a Sheraton hotel where you expect service and a degree of quality totally unacceptable. Whilst only open for a year - if you are a traveller who expects some degree of service whether it be from a barman, waitor or room service, we unfortunately, cannot recommend this hotel. Having stayed at several Starwood hotels around the world, the Sheraton Salobre Golf & Spa resort does not come any were close to matching any Starwood hotel members. Be advised not to stay here unless you´re happy to eat anywhere else but not this hotel. Real shame and we sincerely hope the head of Sheraton hotels puts some attention into the service very much lacking in what could be a lovely hotel."

sunny and calm
"Just back from 8 days at the sheraton salobre ,gran canaria, spain with the whole family ( 2 kids ). We had an excellent room with a splendid view on the golf course. An airconditioning problem was promptly solved by offering us a new and " fresher" room with functioning ac, not a luxury with 47 degrees celsius the week before we arrived. Rooms and service were excellent despite a fully booked hotel during the weekend. Friendly and helpful staff and a hotel director who 's always ready for his clients and on the lookout for possible problems. Don't go there if you're looking for pool entertainment and nightly shows. Do go there if you want tranquillity and peace of mind. Only negative point was the perpetuous repetition of the same and the same music tape in the restaurant and the sunset bar. Mental terror. The beach house is clean, well equiped and offers everything one needs when coming back from the beach. The wandering and jogging nudists on the beach of maspalomas were a bit of a shock for our little ones. There is no clear separation between the "covered" and "nude" part of the beach. Food was excellent although the buffet starts to get boring after a week, try the a la carte restaurant, good food and not that expensive.Great experience and back to work with a refreshed body and mind."

Smart hotel - we loved it!
"Having undertaken significant internet research for our holiday we were very much looking forward to our trip and this hotel - we were not disappointed at all - in fact all our expectations were exceeded by far. The service is fantastic - everyone was very willing to help at any time and it really felt lke we hadn't had to anything for ourselves for the whole week. From the moment we checked in we were in awe of the fantastic architecture and design of the hotel - it is built into the rock across 11 floors and all rooms overlook the golf course - we were very lucky to have room overlooking the pool too which provided a nice atmosphere. The rooms themselves are simply stunning - accessed off an open air corridor they have exceptionally comfy beds and wonderful balconies with a little sofa in the corner - great for snuggling up or relaxing in the sun. The best thing by far about the guest rooms is the bathroom/wet room - the biggest bathroom i have ever seen in a hotel with great 'rain' showers. We visited every restaurant and the Chameleon a-la-carte was by far the best - every dish we tried was amazing and the atmosphere really nice - not at all stuffy despite the obvious high quality. We also tried the tapas restaurant - Perenquen which I think was connected to the Chameleon kitchen as the food quality was also very good with some unique but very tasty combinations. Gofio buffet restaurant provided an extensive high quality breakfast and very friendly and efficient service. Our favourite pool area was the sunset pool on the top floor which provided great views and had four poster sun loungers (they called hammocks) which were very relaxing. The bar there was also good and we received excellent service from MJesus there. Another great benefit of this hotel is that it is not in the over-touristy central area of Playa del Ingles or Maspalomas! It is a 10 - 15 minute car journey away. There is a 'beach villa' owned by the hotel which isn't on the beach but 2 minutes away and there is a regular bus service to take you there and back. This was really nice touch because it meant you could go into to the centre and look around the shops or stroll on the beach and then go back to the villa and take a dip in the pool or use the facilities to change. The villa is located in Melanoras which is the more exclusive area with the 5* hotels and best shops. i would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to take a complete break and get away from it all - the most relaxing holiday ever..."

"I booked this hotel with airline network at a great rate. I stayed about a month after this hotel opened. The hotel, location, rooms were fantastic, but the service and food options were not great. When i stayed, the gym and pool were not open and the buffet meal was only open on weekends as the hotel was not full. The gym should of been open and we were not told that it would not be before our arrival. We had to eat in the hotels main restaurant for 5 of our nights there as we were half board, but the food choice was very poor, so had to order room service food to eat in that restaurant, but was always difficult to tell the waiters this. The food we did get though, was lovely. On check out, they tried to charge us for fruit smoothies we ordered after our meal, but we only had them as they would act as a desert and would fit into our meal allowance. So, had to talk to many members of staff, before finally talking to the food manager, who understood and changed the bill. The location of the hotel was great and they supplied a bus into town, but excurssions they offered were not from the hotel, you had to make your own way to the event. Overall, a nice hotel, and now that its been open a year, im sure its a lot better in terms of service."

So Much Nicer than Other Grand Canary Resorts
"The hotel is a 10 minute taxi drive from the faro in Maspalomas but feels like a world away. The hotel offers a much more luxurious and tranquil alternative to the tourist-jammed resorts of Maspalomas and Playa Del Ingles. The focus is on design - a stunning cohesive look with great attention to detail in materials, amenities and pools... 7 pools... the best of which are the sunset pools with their dramatic personal lounges and the main resort pool. We really loved staying there. The rooms were well-designed and the bathrooms were cavernous by European standards. Double sinks, separate baths and open showers and plenty of towels were a nice touch. Each room has a balcony that overlooks the resorts and the island's mountain range. Most rooms also overlook the sea in the distance. Service was excellent. Everyone treated us well and took good care of us. The Aloe Spa is very much worth visiting and offers a peaceful escape. The breakfast buffet is outstanding and caters to all tastes. Regular bus services runs from the hotel to the hotel's beach house about 2 minutes from the main beach in Maspalomas. It was terribly convenient. The beach house has its own pool. If you play golf, a stunning course is laid out below the hotel. Overall, the hotel is highly recommended and we would gladly pick it over any of the beachside hotels."

Definitely not 5 star
"We booked a 4 night stay directly with the hotel over the Easter period. I paid for a premium corner room with corner glass balcony. We had booked transport to and from the airport with the hotel. The car was waiting and we had a comfortable drive to the hotel - so far so good. The compter system was down when we arrived, so we were handed our key card and given directions to our room. When we found our room, it was a normal premium room, not a corner room with all around balcony. The bell boy arrived with our cases who confirmed this wasn't the premium room. We tried to phone reception, but the phone didn't work. I could hear reception, but they couldn't hear me. We went down to reception who told us they were over booked. At first the hotel manager tried to tell us that it was the room we had booked as the slip of paper said premium. I explained it may say premium, but it wasn't what we had booked. He couldn't provide us with our room for another 3 nights! No good when we were only there for four. As the stress levels were quite high at this point, we told the manager we would leave it for tonight, but expected the higher standard room in the morning. As we went back we went to put our valuable in the safe. This didn't work either (apparently the main control panel was broken). The next morning there still wasn't another room available, in fact there wasn't one for the whole of our stay, nor did the safe ever get mended, so for the whole 5 days I had to carry our valuables around with us. Not what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. Breakfast was like feeding time at the zoo. If the weather isn't good and the hotel is full, there just isn't the room to seat everyone. The omlettes are made behind where the food is placed. This meant that everyone queuing for eggs and omlettes stood in front of the bacon, sausage etc. You just couldn't get to the food. If the clientelle hadn't been so polite there would have been havoc. One good point was that the staff in the breakfast room were excellent. They were efficient and polite in what was obviously a stressful situation for them. The night before we were due to leave, we went to reception to check that our car was confirmed for the trip back to the aitport. We were told it was confirmed. However, after checkout (where I did not receive a discount for having a downgraded room!) no car arrived. I went to reception who said they could not find anything written down for our transport and 'didn't know what to do'. I suggested they phone the car company to see if it was on its way. It wasn't, in fact it hadn't been booked. The receptionist just stood and shrugged her shoulders at me. In the end we called our own taxi! General observation are:- The architecture of the hotel is very modern and appealing. The bus service into Maspolomas is good and runs on time. There isn't a lot going on in the hotel. We ate in the Golfio restaurant (which is where you have breakfast). The food was quite nice. We ate in the a la carte. My food was nice, but the lady on the next table complained as her duck salad didn't seem to have any duck. The waiter managed to find a small slither and just stood there and laughed at her. The service definitely let it down. We ate in the Sunset bar. This was disappointing. I had chicken ceasar salad. It was served in a plastic bowl, and again was lacking in content. We've stayed at Sheraton hotels before, but this will definitely be our last. There are many lovely hotels in Maspalomas. I'd recommend you choose one of these and keep well away from the Sheraton."

Far away from 5 star level
"Me and my daughter (3 years old) spent one week in the Sheraton Salobre Golf Hotel. We booked a Junior Suite with Breakfast&Dinner. Room was nice, altough it is somehow strange that the Suite consisted of two rooms with a door, so we had two absolutely identically bathrooms, two toilets, two minibars, two balcons etc. Food was very disappointing, evey night almost the same buffet, boring and without any creativity. In the second restaurant (cameleon) we waited more than a hour to get something to eat, since my daugher was getting tired I told (the very unfriendly) staff to bring the food up to the room. after half an hour came my starter and the my daughters sandwich. Afterwards, nothing happend and I was waiting and waiting for my main course. after another hour I called the reception with my mobile phone, since both phones didn't work (sic...). Nothing happend and I went to bed very hungry and upset. Next day I went to the reception and they apologized offering my daughter a teddy and myself a bottle of prosecco which I appreciated. Unfortunately the rooms were not properly cleaned (dust all over), one shower didnt work properly and the water in two sinks didnt drain off well. location of the hotel is nice, the upper pool wonderful. regarding the staff, some of them are very kind, some others highly arrogant and unfriendly (spa, cameleon). Excellent Hotel, but...
"My wife and I spent a long weekend at the this new Sheraton. It takes a while to get used the sorroundings and to appreciate its beauty. But it is a beautiful hotel. Service was good. Breakfast was excellent. Watch out for the temperature in the rooms. Our room was hot and the air conditioning blows hot air during the "winter" We complained and were given a portable air conditioning unit. The front desk was simple OK. Front desk stuff have very litle authority in assigning upgrades or make any changes, especially at check out. We requested a 2 PM check out and were told NO.. The manager eventually agreed but it took some effort. You also should rent a car if you are interested in exploring Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, etc.. They do have a shuttle to the beach. The golf is wonderful... Overall a grat hotel if you like golf, tranquility and beauty. Highly recommend it."

"We live in Gran Canaria and wanted a weekend away from the kids. This hotel fitted the bill, great location off tourist trail of Maspalomas. The accomodation was suberb and every room seems to have a decent view. Service was good apart from in the restaurants where were less than impressed. Glass of champagne on arrival was a nice touch. There are several swimming pools and one on the top floor, however the one in the spa was the best as it was quiet and relaxing (this was part of our weekend package) and had great views from the pool. It was fairly quiet when we were there so there was plently of space by the pools, although it appeared there were more than enough sun loungers. Prices are expensive but not much more than in Maspalomas. Would we go again? Definitely."
