"we had a wonderful 2 weeks at the hotel. We thought the food and setting was excellent. It was exactly what we wanted,luxurious bedroom, lots of space and a really chilled out feeling. The choice in the restaurant was amazing, yes you can be picky about service but that is only a slight niggle. the health centre is the best i have been to with amazing floatation room and tropical rain showers. Just beware as i slipped on coming out of one of the pools and was informed that they had just ordered mats, thankfully no harm was done. we will certainly return as it was so relaxing, I especially loved the sea water pool."

Mixed view on the Gran hotel Lopesan

"Just got back from a week in the Gran Hotel Lopesan and a lot of the comments (good and bad) rang true. The positives:
- very nice rooms, new, well designed and spacious
- nice gardens and pools
- a good Spa
- child friendly, we took our 4 month old daughter and it was very easy, staff were helpful and friendly

For their 4 star rating, they do need to sort out:
- the food! Below par (although it might be the average quality of the Canaries? The restaurants on the Maspalomas boulevard weren't any better)
- some unnecesary restrictions in the service (a limited time to change pool towels, no sauna with the gym)
- the entertainment; probably best to have none at all if it is that bad?

On the whole, we enjoyed the experience and perhaps as good as it gets on Gran Canaria. Having said that, we wouldn't go back, the overall quality of hotels in Asia is much preferred!"

"Just arrived back from this hotel it was a great location but definatly not a hotel for people with young children i had a eight month old child and eight year old girl who were bored and if when we were in the reception area and the kids were making a noise we got funny looks not child friendly. the hotel was lovely inside reception area was very dull and dark not alot going on day or night i think this was due to the drink prices,the entertainment was not up to much and only a few people attended.The food was not of five star quality very poor infact,the bedrooms were very very nice apart from the bed that was very firm and i mean firm! staff were nice and helpful. we have been to the sister hotel four times before Gran hotel costa melonares and thought we would have a change but wish now we had not we were a little disappointed and won't go back maybe best to stick to what you know. OH and one last thing the hotel won't change SCOTTISH MONEY!!!"

Relaxing and heavenly hotel

"My boyfriend and I have just returned home from this one-week amazing vacation in this wonderful hotel. The hotel is situated in a very clean and friendly area in Costa Maspalomas where you can find its sister hotel Gran hotel Lopesan Costa Meloneras and a couple of malls.
The hotel consists of many different colorful buildings in the traditional gran canarian style with swimming pools, gardena and artificial beaches. The lobby is amazingly impressive and tall with an overview of the hotel and straight to the sea.
We found it hard to reach to our room the first night since the hotel seems so big- relatively it's pretty small compared to all the other complex resort hotels, but it took us just one day to figure out simple ways to get around.
The room is spacious and clean with one big bathroom- a huge bathtop and shower, one walking closet, tv-sofabed area and a terrace overlooking the center of the hotel and the sea.
We had half board option so we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel. They were both buffet style and both with many wonderful selection and choices. I would say the food could be a little better since it's a 5-star hotel but we were ok with it since all of the staff were very friendly.
The most wonderful thing of this hotel is that the hotel is fully booked but you will never hear any noise at any time. We stayed for one week and almost felt that we were the only guests. Since it's so big, we never had to fight for the sun beds and had many choices of pools.
If I had another occasion to go back to Gran Canaria, I would definately choose this hotel again. It's really an amazing experience."

"My wife and I and out 4 month old baby just arrived back from this hotel and we had a great time. The staff bent over backwards on our first night to make sure we had everything we needed for the baby and even managed to organise a bottle warmer.

The room was lovely - not quire 5-star american chain hotel 5-star, but great all the same. Food was fine (we had Cava from breakfast everyday) - and the buffet evening meal was varied enough. I agree with others that the food could be a little better and the staff were overworked, but overall we didn't have too many complaints.

Other than a few railings at the end of the hotel the spa was finished and my wife told me it was top quality inside. The reception area and bar was very impressive and the hotel design is really nice.

There a couple of beaches within walking distance and designer clothes shops - so if you are looking for a relaxing holiday I'd recommend this place."

Enjoyed our first stay in Gran Canaria at the Villa Del Conde

"This was our first visit to Gran Canaria; we went for a relaxing week and that's exactly what we got. We had booked the cheapest room rate (mountain views) at the Gran Hotel Villa Del Conde, via the Lopesan website, but on arrival we were allocated a pool/sea view room which was in a great spot. The place is set out to give the appearance of a colourful village - we liked the colour scheme, it was bright and happy without being gaudy. The rooms are of a high standard, very comfortable. We were out of season and didn't have any problem with sunbeds etc. The entertainment wasn't great, but hey ho, the hotel is close to bars/restaurants/shops so you can strole to a change of scenery if you want to. A high percentage of our fellow holiday makers were from Germany - the choice of TV chanels reflects this! - but we got the feeling that Lopesan were attempting to make sure that the Brits were looked after. The main restaurant (which we only used for breakfast) serves buffet-style food and, for the most part, was good. Unlike one of the previous reviews, Cava was available, everything was cooked as it should be, there were also choices like Parma ham, smoked salmon, omelettes cooked to order, pastries and breads of all description. In the evening, we used the 'A La Carte' restaurant - now, this is where you have to use your imagination when in comes to a five star rating; the staff were well intentioned but were either over-worked or under-trained. They were very pleasant and we weren't about to get stressed about the occasional delay or forgetfulness, but you did find yourself thinking that there was a distinct lack of management in this restaurant. That said,we really enjoyed this hotel; we booked an extended check out and this made our last day relaxed and enjoyable and we both agree we would return."

Don't be fooled by the glitz....

"The entrance to this hotel is very impressive, being a replica of a big church in Las Palmas. However, it's not long until you realise that things are lacking... we had to wait for 35 minutes to check in (only one receptionist for the whole hotel), and our reservation showed only for one night instead of the 7 we had booked. This was resolved fairly readily however, and we made our way to our room.
The room was situated in the garish pink block (near the mushroom block adjoining the blue block to the right of the green block, by the white block with the green railings (or was it brown windows?). You get the picture. The hotel is very disjointed...all different apartment blocks joined by (miles of) stairways and walkways. It has a village atmosphere...but more "The Prisoner" than anything quaint. Kind of Disney meets Picasso.
Anyway, the room itself was nice...spacious with a huge bathroom and separate walk-in wardrobe, separate lounge area and bed area (the mattresses were incredibly firm...that may be because the hotel is still new). The view from the balcony was 'interesting'....straight down into the restaurant through the conservatory window, and the balconies of all the other multi-coloured blocks.
Food was generally okay, if uninspired. Breakfast and dinner were both self-serve buffets, and the waiting staff were efficient if a little cold and disinterested. They certainly seem geared up far more for German travellers (of which the majority were) than for English.
Pools were large, well spread out (at least 5 and possibly 6 of them), and there were always plenty of sun loungers around (for the few occassions in the week when the sun did actually shine!). But beware...the pools are very, very cold (may be linked to the poor weather we had, but I doubt it).
Evening entertainment is varied... Flamenco show was first class, whilst acrobatic show (a la Cirque du Soleil) was a real flop. Band (most nights) were okay.

On the whole, the hotel was a disappointment. When the weather's bad, there's very little to do either in the hotel or the vicinity (especially if, like us, you don't drink).

It's a place to see (once) but I don't think I'll be going back..I think a 5 star rating is very generous. I'll stick with the Riu Palace at Maspalomas, which is in a different league altogether!"

"We have just returned from a week at The Villa DEl Conde. This was our second visit to this hotel. We were there in July 05 as well. We enjoyed our holiday in july, but things have changed very much for the worse.The standard of service has dropped to an awfull level. There are simply not enought staff. Staff are surly and badly trained. There is no longer Cava champagne available at breakfast. There is no longer tomato or grapefruit or pineapple juice at breakfast, only watery orange or tropical fruit juice.
The bacon is always almost raw. I complained about these points but the restaurant manager was not really interested. I complained about the very poor service(I always had to clear my own plates away) We found it difficult to order wine etc. at the table as no one would come to take our order for drinks. The service is really appalling. The dining area is not 5 ***** When it rained we got soaked from all the leaks in the roof.
The pools are beautiful but the water was too cold to swim in. The areas around some of the pools is dirty.
I found all the staff to be surly and a bit unfriendly even the reception staff are not exactly helpful.
The buildings are beautiful, the rooms are well appointed, the location is good, but it is all now let down by the staff and the terrible service.
I will not now go back. At least not untill I hear that things have improved.
This is a 5 ***** hotel with 2** service."

"We have just returned from the Gran Villa del Conde and we both enjoyed our stay. The hotel is absolutely amazing the reception areas and bedrooms are all very tastefully decorated. Even if you are not fortunate to get a room near to the sea the blocks of hotel rooms are designed in such a way that it looks like you are looking at a spanish village from your bedroom window. The swimming pools are brilliant and there were plenty of sun beds to go around especially at this time of year. The hotel is advertised as 5* but we both felt that the restaurant let it down. When you arrive at the restuarant for breakfast or dinner you have to find your own table and this made us feel as though we were in a cafeteria. I stayed last year in the H10 Lanzarote and the staff were really attentive making sure you were well looked after. We had no complaints about the quality of the food but the buffet tables and carvery were set out in a very unorganised manner and should have been more centralised similar to those on a cruise ship. Diners were sitting in between the buffets and I thought this was hazardous especially when you were carrying food. The service was quite poor especially when requesting drinks or cutlery. Outside of the hotel there is a pleasant walk to Maspalomas where there are quality shops,pleasant bars and restaurants. In the evening the hotel seemed to lack atmosphere couldn't put my finger on what was missing perhaps more up to date entertainment. One last little complaint our bedding wasn't changed until the day before we came home, not really five star. We would definitely visit this hotel again in the future but they need to bring the restaurant up a level."

"My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week at the Gran Hotel Villa del Conde.

The complex is beautiful and the lobby stunning. There are 5 beautiful pools and lots of lovely places to sit and have a drink in or out of the shade, and plenty of sun loungers at whichever pool you choose.

The buffet selection I found to be wide and catered for many tastes. Althought they were slow to replenish and if you went late in to breakfast you could spend 10 minutes looking for cutlery.

BUT the hotel IS NOT FINISHED! The spa which is located on the sea front is far from being finished and is very annoying when you are trying to relax by the pool as you can hear works noises. At least they don't start early, nor work all day!

We were staying in the block nearest the sea, and there were some public rooms on the ground floor that also weren't finished and on the last couple of days I awoke to the sound of hammer bangings. This probably only started at 9, but we wanted lie ins when we are on holiday.

But the biggest problem of all, was the fact that when we arrived the hotel had no knowledge of our booking. And we received daily reminders and calls to reception to go and sort this out. We still aren't clear whether this was the hotels fault or our agents (Lastminute[-]). This dragged on from the Monday-Friday. One day we spent close to 3 hours in reception trying to sort this out. Not what i call relaxing at all, especially as the hotel claimed they couldn't contact our operator. So we had to call on our mobiles! So we incurred the expense which we are separately trying to recover. In saying this the hotel left us a bottle of champagne and fruit platter to apologise for the hassle, but I would rather have had an easy stay, as the maid cleared (?????????) our bottle away before we had a chance to drink it!

Also there is not much to do at night in the hotel. There is live music every evening in the hotel, but really the standard is not high. Although towards the end of the holiday you did get into the band more. Only two nights was there external entertainment, which was good, but if you are at the late sitting then by the time you finish dinner, there are no seats left to view the entertainment and you have already missed the start of it! The disco was opened but was never busy, although the outside seating area was beautiful.

There are not many activities to do at the hotel. We played tennis twice at a cost of 10 euros per go. I think you also pay for the putting and the pool table. At least the table tennis was free- although they lock the batt away in the morning, lunch time and after 4.30. The acitvities programme was quite good, but could have been better promoted.

As I said, the spa wasn't opened so i used the one at the sister hotel (Costa Meloneras) which was very enjoyable.

The room was perfect with a lovely view, big beds, beautiful bathroom, and large balcony, but the TV only had 2 channels in English - CNN News and Eurosport. Which in a 5 star hotel was pathetic.

Overall the hotel building was beautiful and we did enjoy the stay, but I think that was because we got a very good deal (we only paid around £465 for the whole room (not per person!)), and so I didn't mind the imperfections. But if i were paying brochure price which someone said was around £900 pppw, then they need to improve. The building is 5star, but they need to run a tighter ship."

"This beautifully architectured hotel is surrounded by well maintained pools, gardens and pathways. You can't help but feel special in this glorious place. All the staff are spot on - quietly effecient but not over bearing. The reception staff are very professional and we felt secure and well cared for. Excellent food and atmosphere. It's the best hotel we've stayed in - we're planning our fourth consecutive holiday there as we're now afraid that anywhere else will not compare."

"Just returned from a week at this super hotel,We were a family of two adults and two teenagers. The Hotel is very well laid out ,very clean ,the grounds and pool areas are super,very well looked after ,staff always cleaning.The food is buffet style for breakfast and dinner,the service was first class . The choice was excellant.We stayed in a basic room which was more than big enough and well maintained.The location is super right on the promanade at Molenares.The Hotel had a mix of nationalities with British being in the minority,this was not a problem we found everyone very friendly.We would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel and can't wait to go back at some time."
