"I stayed in this hotel last year and it was a great holiday. Good for a basic lazy, sun lounging, food and drink filled holiday. Yes the hotel is on a hill but thats what gives the sea view. Good shops outside the hotel and more than enough food with access to both hotels now as they are both owned by thomas cook. Im going back to this hotel later this year

Clean and friendly resort
"My family visited Barcelo Jandia for my Husband's birthday, the staff were excellent and went the extra mile to make it an enjoyable day, with birthday cards and table decorations etc, without any prompting. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were very well presented, clean and comfortable. There was many dishes to choose from in the restaurants although a little repetative. I would certainly recommend this resort to others although the night life is not really geared up for the English. Please beware, when the brochure says it isn't for the disabled, that is exactly what it means"

complete waste of money
"Just returned from 1 week at the Jandia Mar Hotel. First allocated room we asked to be moved from as the outlook from the front was a brick wall, and from the terrace was a roof. Rooms not as described on the internet with Thomas Cook just a bog standard bathroom, no Jacuzzi bath, seperate shower or double sinks. Food not good unless you enjoy pork and fish every day so you tend to fill up on salad, fruit and chips, the only good meal for us was breakfast which had a wide variety cereals, fruit, full english if you wanted it, pastries, yoghurts etc. Only one bar open at night in the lobby and even hard to get to the self serve machines because of the queue for the bar. In the day only poool bar open, plastic or paper cups, tea and coffee only available at certain times of the day, so if you get a cold day and need a hot drink then you will have to walk to the village and get one. Entertainment, what entertainment!!! It's much better at the sister hotel the Jandia Playa where we spent most of our nights as they had two bars open and no queues, and they had duets and groups on of an evening. We booked this hotel for its facilities as it was a special occasion, having an a la carte restaurant spa etc. The restaurant was only open one night per week and was fully booked so couldn't get into it and the spa was always full to. Jandia has beautiful beaches and long walks with a few restaurants and bars."

"Well were do i start, We have just got back from the Barcelo jandia Playa, went for a week 03/06/09 for my friends 50th birthday. On arrival it was late about 9pm, after traveling all day, we were greeted by reception with happy relaxed staff, who gave us a drink of sparkling wine who told us to leave our luggage and go and have some food, when we returned,we were driven to our rooms luggage and all. It was like Christmas everday, the Food was to die for, everything you could imagine and more, wine, beer, water, juice,on tap so no waiting around just help yourself,Yes there was a lot of people there, but we never had to Q, we found all the staff friendly & helpful, specially the entertainment staff, we had great fun and made lots of new friends,Down at the snack bar open 12 noon till 6pm you could, (if you wanted) get every type of drink help yourself, we have never seen this before help yourself optics!if you want a special cocktail make your own!!!The rooms we had were spacious and cleaned everyday, with fresh towels,Now the minus points,There is a few tiles missing around some pool areas, No shop to get a newspaper,(you had to leave the hotel & go the the shops near the beach,) which is a fair way if you have any walking problems, also the beach which is beautiful & the sea as blue as it gets is a fair walk away, with not yery good access,Please note that if you have children be aware that it is legal to be nude!!!!we saw a few nudists.not a pretty site!!! and last of all the sister hotel has crazy golf, but we thought 5 euro's each was a bit steep, £20 for crazy golf (crazy)From Linda Parker. "Hotel lovely, very clean, food good but it does include a lot of fish dishes(ok if you like fish) there are alternatives so for me I always found a different meal, pizza, pasta, chicken etc. Rooms cleaned daily, we were in room 5212 great view and very quiet. Drinks ok, large measures just wish the red wine was served at room temperature not icy cold through the pump. All in all a fab holiday, met some nice people and most of the staff were very friendly."

"I had a lovely time at this hotel. The rooms were always clean and tidy, staff were friendly and meal times were brill. Sometimes it could get crowded in the dining hall so why not have a drink or five at the bar and wait for the rush to go! Easy!!!
There are plenty of sun loungers so we were never fighting for them or leaving our towels on the sun loungers (unlike some people)!!!
The beach was about 5/10 minutes walk away which is not bad and its a nice walk. I found the beach to be very quiet and the sea water warm and gorgeous! The waves were huge too but great fun! Please be aware that the beach is known for lots of naked bodies but, in all honesty, something that did not bother me!
I really could not say a bad word about this place and i am very much hoping to go back there this year! It certainly has the thumbs-up from me!!! "

Stayed here two weeks Dec 2008
"We booked our holiday with First Choice on the internet and everything went like clockwork. Admittedly it is rather a long way to the bus from the airport when you arrive at Fuerterventura, but we are four OAPS and we managed it ok. When we arrived at the Hotel we were invited to take our evening meal before booking in. This we did and we were booked in afterwards very efficiently. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean as was the rest of the hotel and all the outside areas. The food was excellent, a very good choice at every meal. The weather was far from perfect but we still enjoyed the holiday. On a couple of dull days we used the spa area again, this was spotlessly clean including the jacussi and the sauna's. The hill down to the beach, which has been mentioned in other reviews, I would say is fine for any age as long as you are resonable fit. The entertaint during the evenings wasn'nt our scene but with so many nationalities it is difficult to please everyone. All in all excellent value for money. "

A friendly hotel
"We visited this hotel from 29th Nov -13th Dec. We found the staff all round the hotel ,to be the friendliest we have ever come across. Check in was swift and efficient, with a welcome drink to help it along! Our room (41) was on the ground floor alongside the pool, handy for nipping to the bar whilst relaxing on our lovely terrace! The room was clean and spacious ,with a ceiling fan as well as the air con. The dining room was nice and airy and the food plentiful with lots of choice, lots of differant salads, lots of fresh fruit, fresh fish, meats and veg,and the ice cream was yummy, we never had a meal we were dissappointed with and we loved trying the typical Spanish dishes on offer. The snack bar offered just that, snack food, if you didn't like it the restaurant was open for long periods to nip in there. There are lots of places to sit and enjoy a drink ,inside and out,and hundreds of sunbeds around the 2 lovely pools, the gardens all around the complex are very well kept, the entertainment is iffy,as it is most places, but the animation team worked hard, and were very friendly,Grease was an excellent show and they all worked hard.
There is a fridge in the room which comes in handy and lots of hotels don't have these!!This hotel is at the top of a steep hill, but we knew that!! we walked it a few times and caught the free bus at other times,it certainly didn't spoil our holiday!!
For what we paid we found this hotel to be good value for money, and well worth it's 4* status. For the first time in all our visits at this time of year ,the weather was not as good as it should have been, but we still had a great holiday and met some lovely people!!! We would visit again!!!

Barcelo Jandia Mar Good or Bad???
"We booked via Thomas Cook and had an interesting flight plane was very old and made lots of scary noises.
On arrival at Fuerteventura airport there was a long drag with the cases to the bus.
Be aware that the transfer is 1 and a half hours and very windy roads seat belts mandatory.
On arrival at the hotel check in was smooth enough and you get these wrist bands somewhat reminiscent to a hospital stay they have a clip on them that can make a nasty scratch.
Rooms looked ok TV reception and choice awful CNN or BBC world news thats it!!
Beds twins only and hard as nails one pillow we managed to get another and an empty minibar. Air con good as was the balcony. Safe supposedly 2 euros a day in the room no need to pay.
Food is cold as described by other contributors garden peas for breakfast is a new one on me. Overall breakfast was good, lunch was ok, dinner was not good, we went at various times and always it was a scrum for tables and food.
The hotel is on a very steep hill and the bus does not run on sundays and only every half hour with no clear stop it comes down and goes straight back up again and then waits for ages at the top. Surely it should wait at the bottom as most can walk down fewer can walk back up.
Sunloungers unlike previous contributors at the hotel were hard to come by and the pools were absolutely freezing including the indoor (heated supposedly) and jacuzzi coldest I have ever been in. We went in the sea most days which was warmer.
Drinks are plentiful but always in disintegrating paper cups and too large more gin than tonic most may say thats not an issue but quadruples you can only drink so many. Always easier to add than take away. Also bar closes at 11 for all inclusive although stays open for paying guests at exorbitant prices.
Entertainment was varied and German orientated, the theatre smelt strongly of drains which added (not) to the evening.
The Beaches are excellent and beautiful take a trip to Morro Jable harbour to see the Sting rays and other fish and we went on the Sub cat submarine trip which was excellent.
Oasis park zoo and camel safari is another must we hired a car for three days aand went direct.
Overall I would avoid the Barcelo Jandia mar it is a factory hotel with poor food and the hill is a major stumbling block.
Jandia is lovely we ate at the chinotown restaurant twice, excellent value and hot food along with the steakhouse. Shopping is good and as we saw there are plenty of other hotels in better locations to choose from.
