Barcelo Corralejo Bay

Reviewed 21st June 2016

"The adults only Barcelo Corralejo Bay who is a kilometer away from the center and is great for families. Beach and shopping’s are literally next to your room door. Lots of couples stay here too. The price from 950$ is reasonable for the great room facilities, good food and drinks. Barcelo Corralejo Bay is situated on Fuerteventura and provides 4-star facilities as well as outdoor tennis courts and a free shuttle service. Barcelo Corralejo Bay is listed in 'Top 9 Corralejo Hotels' --> http://corralejo.org/top-9-corralejo-hotels/"

Nice hotel, shame about the food...

Reviewed 2nd June 2009

"The Bluebay Palace is a good hotel overall and goes well towards achieving its 4-star rating. In my experience holiday hotels tend to be over-rated, but the Bluebay Palace achieves a good 3.5 stars in my view. The accommodation is very well maintained, is clean and tidy and the hotel has good facilities. The location of the hotel is also excellent being just off the main road through Corralejo where all the shops and restaurants are based. In front of the hotel is perhaps the best beach in Corralejo separated from the hotel by a section of brightly painted holiday apartments. One slight annoyance was that we could hear loud music from a bar/club until 12.30am and this might disturb families with younger children. We were on the west side of the hotel and I suspect we would have had peace and quiet on the east side. The real disappointment with the hotel however was the food. We stayed on a half-board basis and this is something that I regret with hindsight. The food is served in a buffet style and the quality was equivalent to something you would expect in a 2-star all-inclusive resort (reminiscent of school dinners!) Whilst there was a broad range of options at every meal, many of these were over-cooked and/or poorly conceived. I am a vegetarian and my options were very limited. After 3 nights I requested that the chef (although I doubt they had one) made some main dishes suitable for vegetarians. Sadly the duty manager spent 5 minutes trying to suggest that since I had not complained on the first night the food must be alright. Eventually they accepted my point and agreed to make some vegetarian dishes. The following night the served spanish omelette or pasta with a vegetarian sauce. I had the omelette, which was nice. The night after that they served the same pasta with sauce from the night before, but no omelette. I had this and the sauce turned out to be cream of tomato soup or something similar. Very disappointing! My son is a meat eater and so was able to try everything on offer. He loves his food and has dined far and wide and he shared my view that the food was poor. On the basis of the above I would recommend the Bluebay Palace for a holiday if you want the facilities of a hotel whilst away, but on a bed and breakfast basis only. There is an ample selection of restaurants, cafes and "pubs" to choose from in Corralejo and I can't imagine many of them could do much worse than the Bluebay Palace at food preparation. "

"Spent a week in this excellent hotel. Very clean and relaxing, the beatles tribute band were on 1 night , worth watching. The pool area and pool side bar was lovely never over crowded and served a good variation of lunch time snacks or meals. We had a large well equiped room, only 1 small complaint the matress and beds were very hard. It is well located just a short stroll into the resort. Would def, go again."

"WOW what a great hotel. When me and my partner book this hotel we had checked all the reviews out so we expected great things, and we wasn`t disapointed. The whole hotel is very clean, the rooms are quite big and very nice,(with a gift left in your room on arrivel). The pool area is fantastic, there is a small childrens pool (heated) a medium pool (heated) and a big pool (not heated). There was no problem getting a sunbed either. Now to the food, that too was very very good, but be prepared to put weight on. Alot of choice and cooked and prepared very well, we went for two weeks and didn`t get bored with the food at all. The staff in the hotel are the most pleasant and helpful people i`ve met on my travels. The entertainment crew were new and although they had only been there a few weeks managed to put some fantastic shows on, so a special hello to Bart and Jordie. This hotel goes that extra mile to make your holiday special which is good because the resort is very quiet, but if you like quiet then you won`t mind."

"FANTASTIC! We have over the past few years been to both Mexico & the Caribbean, but this year we wanted something closer. We knew that the beaches are known to be beautiful in Fuerteventura but still, we were amazed just how gorgeous they really are. The smaller beach near the hotel is not the best, but the main beach in Corralejo is a must!! The hotel runs a free bus service twice a day, & it’s only 5 minutes away. Now for the hotel, absolute heaven, tranquil & so, so very clean. They are constantly on top of everything, nothing needs painting or tiles replacing. Everything has been thought of, and is there for the taking. I, after 2 weeks am always ready to come home, but not this year, my 7 year old daughter made many friends & was in & out of the fantastically run kids club all day long, making T-shirts, painting etc. which is ideally situated near the kids pool so you can see them and they know that you are close by. My 13 year old son found loads to keep him amused also, & my husband has put on nearly a stone in weight so that tells you how good the food is!! Talking of food, if you like Indian food you must try the Indian restaurant just up from the hotel, again just marvellous! The resort itself is ok, you must walk to the harbour where lovely small bars can be found, the bars on the main drag are steak houses etc. that are supposed to be there for the English, but quite frankly I think we Brits would rather find quaint little restaurants overlooking the sea. But again lots to do and see. I could say lots, lots more but I’m sure you get the message that it is worth a trip. I am looking to book to go back over Christmas."

Reviewed 27th July 2007

"Just arrived back from the Atlantis palace and I am pleased to say it was excellent. Arrived late evening so we missed the evening meal but staff had put food in our room with wine and water and also a kettle as we had taken a baby so we needed to warm milk. They didn’t charge us for the kettle as we had a baby but if you don’t they charge you 12 euros for a 2 week stay. We stayed in a family room with easily accommodated 2 as 1 child and a baby. I did go and look at the standard rooms and the suites which both were also of a good size. The suite had a separate bedroom which is ideal if you have children. The air conditioning is switched off at 12am and comes back on at 6am you may think its on as it still makes a noise but i can assure you its not on and it isn’t the best air con system I’ve had. The staff we found really friendly and professional the maid service was also excellent as the rooms and towels are cleaned everyday and it’s a thorough clean. All rooms have balcony with screen doors which is really good and the mosquitoes are really friendly. Please take plenty of repellent. Entertainment was 50/50 some good nights some not so good but the children’s disco is on every night and the animation team are good with the children. The kids club is free the only downfall is that the children can just wonder in and out so it’s not too safe although you do sign them in. Pool area is clean and there are plenty of loungers although the pool doesn’t open until 9am it is a race to get the sun beds around the baby pool. Free towels are provided and you change them when you want a clean one. The tiles around the pool area are extremely slippy and all the children slip. So please take care and wear some non slip shoes. Food is ok we found the first week it’s was really good with a wide choice but there are only so many steaks you can eat and by the second week it had got a bit repetitive but there was always something to eat. If you want a late checkout ask when you arrive otherwise you won’t get one. Also I would advise the safe as while we were their money was taken from a family as they didn’t have the safe. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Atlantis palace and would return again. "

Reviewed 21st March 2007

"First impression of this hotel was good. The hotel was spotlessly clean and had a lovely large reception area. We were a little disappointed as we had requested a sea view which we didn’t get (we thought a little more effort to get us a decent view would have been made as we were on honeymoon and had requested it over a year before). Our room was also fairly small. Meals were good and there was plenty of choice. It was nice to see that there was an opening time on the outdoor swimming area as this prevented people getting up at ridiculous hours of the morning to reserve sun beds! Being in our early 20's, we did feel a little out of place but the staff were all friendly enough. Unfortunately, Fuerteventura isn’t an island that has a lot to offer if the weather is bad. We had quite a bad week for weather. It was quite cool during the day and so we did struggle a little with finding things to do (beach lovers would love this island providing they got good weather!). Personally we wouldn’t go back again but that is down to our personal views of the island and not the hotel. The hotel was lovely and I would recommend it."

First impressions of the hotel after a 3...

Reviewed 5th December 2006

"First impressions of the hotel after a 30 minute bus drive from the airport was pleasing, particularly in comparison to other hotels and apartments we went by. The large window together with the marble hallway throughout reception and the lounge area is tremendous and really something you would associate with a four star hotel. Check-in only took a couple of minutes and the staff are always more than help, apart from the porter who broke my suitcase on the way to the room. The room was a decent size, particularly the bathroom, having two sinks, bath, shower, and WC, all finished in marble, with a massive mirror above the sink. The room also included a double sofa bed, armchair, side tables, desk, occasional table, fridge, TV, air con and a large coffee table. The balcony was a decent size too with enough space for 3-4 people and provided an ample view of the swimming pool and the main lounge. The table, and two recliner chairs were helpful especially after a long day at the pool. Our first visit to the restaurant was impressive and the amount and different types of food on offer surprised us. Likewise, the following days we were impressed with the breakfast. However, after 3 days or so, you do become bored of going to the same place, although the food is different, we were annoyed at the constant up and down from the table to the buffet. Especially in the morning, because of the queues and the different location of the food, you could be up and down at least 6 times, by that time most of your breakfast is cold. It was similar in the evening, and by the end of the holiday we had been though all of the different food that they serve and it did become repetitive. During our first day we quickly realised we were the youngest people there, (27 & 27) and got the impression from quite rude middle-aged farts that we shouldn’t impinge on their holiday. Irrespective of the slightly aloof atmosphere, the swimming pool, sun loungers (with mattresses), towel were good. At 4pm the pool closed and the spa opened till 8pm. Best advice is to wait unit about 5 or 6 because most people come form the pool straight into the spa, so even in quiet November it’s busy. If you’re going for a beach holiday, Feuterventura is probably one of the best places you can go, (from my experience). However, the beach directly opposite the hotel is nothing to get excited about. There are no sun loungers and it’s full of rocks. The best beach in the immediate vicinity is Flag beach about 30-40 minutes walk. The hotel does operate a free bus going at 1000hrs and coming back at 1500hrs and a taxi is only 5 euros. There are loads of sun loungers and the beach and water is fantastic. There’s a few nudist about though, mostly Germans, 60+ The nightlife is quite good too, even in November, although it too us a few nights to find somewhere we really enjoyed. Namely the Rock Café just off the main stretch. There are other pubs, like the 7 Pints (loads of kids running about, busy with families), Wikiki Bar, (very nice inside, but more expensive that the UK, table service was good though), the Irish Bar was ok too, (live music). We got a little bit bored sitting by the pool all day, so we decided to hire a car for three days. We went to Jandia in the south (about 120K) which was further than we thought, but very nice once we got there. We found that the beaches were no better than Flag beach at the sand dunes. The rep promised “Caribbean beaches” at Jandia, but we never spotted them. If we done it again it’d probably leave about 8 or 9am because once we got their, had some lunch, got on the beach, it was almost time to come back. We also visited El Cotillo, which was very nice and only about 25 minutes drive from the hotel. I think that this is going to become the next biggest resort, the beaches were amazing, and there were two massive lagoons where the water was warm. The waves from the Atlantic were massive, luckily the rocks around the lagoon made for a perfect shelter. The restaurant there were great too, we ended up get a tray of fresh fish, (heads, eyeballs and all) and salad for about 17 quid. The third day we went down to Costa Colleto, which is a man made resort. It was a very nice resort, but the beach wasn’t much, it looked really rocky unlike the “Soft” sand at Flag beach or El Cotillo. We drove up through Puerto del Rosario, which was mainly industrial and unlike most of the tourist towns. Overall we consider 4 stars to be a fair reflection on the hotel, however, if you’re a young couple with no kids, like us, you might want to consider exploring a bit more of the island instead of being around arrogant old snobs all day. First-Choice were surprisingly good, and quite professional. We’d go back, but perhaps self-catering."
