Elba Palace Golf & Vital Hotel

"Elba Palace Golf Hotel our first first impression was very good. Welcome reception, lovely large bedrooms, luxury bathrooms, large south facing balcony with super views of pool and golf course, quiet location and imaculate communial areas. Evening meals in the hotel restaurant were excellent. Breakfast has a wide choice of food. Only minor issues which should be addressed. No face flannels provided. The hotel cafe area at lunch times needed more staff and a better menu and tables cleaned more often. If tea ordered, at any time, a proper tea pot with lid would be nice with milk as standard. TV stations all in German or Spanish unless news channels. Just one in English would be nice. For a change of evening dining try a good Spanish restaurant called La Barca del Pescador in Caleta de Fuste Hotel Castiia San Jorge. Overall an excellent hotel."

5 Star Hotel - 3 Star service
"Lovely hotel with rooms were of a very high standard as you would expect for a 5 * hotel. However....pool area was spacious but not cleaned too often. Spilt drinks on day one were still evident on day seven. The pool 'hoover' was left in the pool during the day for some strange reason meaning that you had to swim around the pipes !! We endured a couple of days of this before removing it and dumping it on the side of the pool. Service in the restaurant was generally poor. Not enough staff at all. The place was hardly bursting at the seams so why we were having to wait 45 minutes for lunch I don't know. In all the place seemed pretty much under staffed which was a shame. On the day of check out we were told that late check out wasn't an option ( strange for 5* ) because they were fully booked and needed the room. Under no circumstances were they fully booked as the place was almost deserted for the entire week that we were there. Interesting to see that the hotel has been dropped from the First Choice Premier brochure for next year......"

ok for me
"I made a point of visiting this hotel after my in-laws stayed here in February complaining of a leaking roof, empty swimming pool etc, giving it an overall rating of two blobs (ok but some problems). From the outside the hotel looks very impressive (not too big not too small) . 'If you want luxury never stay in a hotel with more than 70 rooms' quoted Michael Winner. Foyer decorated to a high standard and the greens looked fantastic and not at all crowded. The pool was full of water (refreshingly cool) and the sunbeds were what you would expect from a 5* hotel with thick linen mattresses covered by a hotel towel. Food is also impressive. Not recommended to people who don't like walking as the coast is a couple of miles away though there is a hotel bus. There is a lovely cool courtyard which was very 'old style colonnial '. I can only think it rained everyday for my inlaws which would definitely give any hotel a different feel."

"Swimming pool being completely re-furbished in Feb 2005. Golf course average. Roof on walkways leak if it rains. Air conditioning units not working as heaters in February--not known when they would be fixed. Heaters in restaurant for diners. They will lend you a fan heater for your room if you are cool! Morning papers if ordered for you room ---came on alternate days---you could buy them in the local town quicker. Good point----food in restaurant is excellent."

Spa / Air CON!
"Having just returned for this hotel, I feel I must warn people as to what they should expect. There are facilities for health and beauty, but no therapists. I took my wife there expecting to spend my time playing golf whilst she would be pampered in the spa. The management lied in their advertising and lied to me when I got there, saying that the spa was open when it hasn't been open since the hotel opened. They also advertised air conditioning, but that wasn't working either, my rep asked them to fix it, but nothing. There were no appoligies for these failings and no offer of compensation. To be fair though, the rest of the facilities were excellent and the staff were very helpful. Please e-mail me regarding anything else about the hotel. P.S. The golf course (although imaculate) is surrounded by a building sites."
