"We loved Las Palmeras, The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Everywhere was so clean and the air con was a dream, Plenty of beds and seating at the pool. No fight for beds even though there was the usual towels out before breakfast. Food was excellent, we even had picnics for lunch on our days out. There were 3 of us Mum and 2 teenagers. We went to Es Grau for kayaking and snorkeling, again excellent."

Very Quite . - 5* LAS BOREDOM APARTMENTS
"Stayed here for two weeks with my husband ..Never again . We wanted a Quite holiday but this is so remote at the top of a hill and with mobility or small children it would be hell . Nothing for children of any age if you want a holiday that offers boredom 24/7 then all's good if not stay clear. Don't go self catering it has no shop unless your willing to wait until 7pm - 9.45pm and catch the little train to the bottom of a very large hill to fetch water ( Train is free)or walk the dreaded hill ( health freaks only) You can catch the bus outside the hotel to Mao costing 1.70 euro each way for cheaper meals or larger supermarkets. But don't miss the 3.30pm bus back the next is 6.30pm To get the best beach you need to change at Mao to Punta Primaor taxi 10 Euro each way. ( No sandy beach in S'Algar) Entertainment Four times in 2 week (but not too good) beats sleeping due to boredom . Meals out are not cheap and the drinks expensive in the hotel and out,so all inclusive is a cheaper option( better still don't go) The rooms are Very nice and large pool ( rooms cleaned every 3 days) "

very good relaxing stay
"Right from intial booking to leaving, I found the resort facilities excellant, staff very friendly and hard working, with a desire to help you to the better. swimming pool very clean as were apartments and patio and all public areas. Only one small fault we had was the amount of flies, especialy in dining areas. when speaking to other residents on the island we soon found out it has a good retutation all across the whole island. I have no hesitaion in returning, hopefuly when it is slightly cooler and not in the high 30's"

Fantastic holiday in lovely apartment with beautiful view
"Just returned from holiday on 17.08.09 in these apartments. Booked for one week last minute. There was my partner, my mum and my two small children aged 4 and 2. We arrived at 21.00 after a smooth flight and effortless transfer (15 mins) from Mahon airport. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and advised us where our room was located - 15a & 15b - overlooking the pool with a view of the hills & sea at the back. Lovely clean rooms, well equipped kitchen and best of all - air conditioning!!!! It was needed as the temperature was in the high 30's....The staff were friendly and a blown bulb on the balcony was fixed within 30 minutes of it being reported. The pool was fantastic - we lounged by the childrens pool every day as to keep an eye on the little ones but also ventured into the larger pool - not overcrowded at all. The childrens club and playground was handy and enjoyed by my two greatly. The complex is clean and well kept and I felt very safe with my children there. There is a short walk into the town (about 15mins) or a free train runs in the evening from 19.00 to 22.00 - if you can get on at the hotel - many people just ride it round and round!! We always walked into town then caught the train back up. There is a great bar/restaurant called La Pirata - very friendly and helpful staff - great with the kids - good prices too. Would highly recommend here to anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing holiday - not too much going on for the teenagers - but a short bus ride or car journey away to the next town. Had such a good time we are planning on going back next year!!"

Wonderful place,spotless.Peaceful location.
"We stayed here for one week...My Husband,16 year old Daughter and her friend and myself. The complex was so very clean, the pool was never busy, without the usual fight for the sunbeds! The staff could not do enough for you and the food, although a limited menu, was very good and the service was second to none! The actual apartments were spotless, spacious and very comfortable. The resort is very quiet, which was just what we wanted but you can go to the 'Sister Hotels' for entertainment in the evenings. Would love to go back but perhaps hire a car so we can explore the Island a little further. A fantastic place-cannot fault it in any way!"

Wonderful place for total relaxation
"We have just returned from Las Palmeras Apartments. What a lovely place. Extremely clean and spacious. The pool is wonderful and never seems to be crowded. The self catering apartments are lovely. Air conditioned, very clean, well equipped and lovely views of the sea. If you are looking for a lively resort - then don't go! S'Algar is very quiet. The heart of the village - down by the sea front has a supermarket, a bakery (nice bread!) and a couple of restaurants. We went to the Reine Isabel restaurant 3 times in the week we were there. Lovely food and great Sangria! (12 EUR) for the jug. The staff at Las Palmeras are all wonderful, and the restaurant in the complex is top notch. I would thoroughly recommend this resort for families, and anyone looking for a peaceful holiday."

spotlessly clean - peaceful apartment complex
"Have stayed in S'algar several times but this was our first stay at Las Palmeras. The apartments are larger than your average holiday apt and well equipped. The kitchen had a toaster, microwave and hob top kettle but the cookers have been taken out. Glad to see the apartments now have air conditioning in addition to the ceiling fan i the bedroom. The apartments and grounds were spotlessly clean - there wasn't a single day when the staff weren't cleaning , gardening or generally maintaining the place . The supermarket was limited in stock and opening hours - closed all day Wednesdays and Thursday. The nearest other supermarket is in the village (one at San Luis has closed), so its a long walk up the hill with shopping if you miss the on site supermarket opening hours. Would highly recommend the on site pizzeria -excellent with good service. The only fault we had was mosquitos!!! Not had this problem in S'Algar before but maybe it was the time of year as we normally go in July or August. Would definately advise taking bug repellent as it expensive in the shops in Menorca. Quiet resort in general and a car is necessary to get about - althought the resort is served by the local bus service to Mahon. Would recommend for families with small children , not much to do for older kids. although when we went there with 3 teenagers they really enjoyed themselves and didn't want to leave the resort and requested to go back again the next year."

"apartments here are spacious and clean as is the pool area. NO kettle in kitchen. If you go self catering there are only two idepentant resturants a spar shop and a couple of gift shops. To walk to the beach at Alcafar it takes about 25 to 30 mins if you have children but be aware of the dogs poo. If you normally let your child wear a t-shirt in the pool, this is not permitted ( a law since 1972 apparently) they can wear the swimming lycra tops. Take plenty of insect repellant got biy quite bad even with it. I personally would not go back there."

We were travelling for the first time wi...
"We were travelling for the first time with an 8 month old baby. I have been in Salgar many times before, but have always stayed at San Luis hotel. This review is mainly aimed at people travelling with small children. Accommodation: the one bedroom apartment was really lovely and clean. The only downside to the apartment was the facilities in the kitchenette were extremely limited. There wasn't even a kettle. We put the cot in the bedroom and moved the two beds into the lounge area, so that baby could sleep in own room and we could use the facilities of the kitchen etc. Time of Year: we were very early in the season and alot of places were shut up still from Winter. The main supermarket in the square was open, but the one on site at Las Palmeras was closed as was the one under the Hotel San Luis. Alot of the bars were still closed, so as we were self-catering we ate alot at the Pizzeria at Las Palmeras, which incidently is absolutely lovely. Cot: we were given an absolutely disgusting horrible travel cot with the thinest mattress ever! That was all that was on offer after asking for something else. I had to ask for extra blankets and towels to try and pad it out High Chair: I had to feed baby in pushchair as no highchairs were available at all Kettle: there was no kettle in the kitchen and when I asked for one for making up baby feeds I was told that they hadn't yet chosen the kettles from the recent renovation!!! Baby Food,Nappies & Wipes: don't bother lugging a load of baby jars with you, as the local Supermarket sells HIPP and Hero baby jars. You will need to take your own formula with you though. Also, don't bother lugging a load of nappies with you as again they are available in the supermarket. What I would suggest however, is on your first day take a taxi into Mahon and go to the Spar supermarket as it is the half the price of the local supermarket and get your weekly supplies. Swimming Pool: the swimming pool is lovely for children, but I would suggest if you have a small baby to get a wet suit as the pool is very cold. "

Our 5th visit many have been more times ...
"Our 5th visit many have been more times (its that sort of place). We love it always spotless the all inclusive option is great as we can also eat and drink at other places in resort San Luis for dinner although you have to book day before since 07. Staff at Las Palmeras all lovely especially if you tip them first day! Head barman been there over 20 years knows everyone. The supermarket on site was much smaller in 07 which would make self catering a lot harder could not even get milk for two days so well worth the extra to go all inclusive especially as s'algar itself is very expensive to eat out in. My teenage daughters make new friends there every year and meet up with old ones who they stay in contact with throughout the year, when we have mentioned in the past trying somewhere new we get major tears and tantrums, considering there is no entertainment for them at Las Palmeras this speaks volumes. The pool area is the best in Menorca we have been told many times by the various reps and is beautiful when lit and kept spotless. Lifeguard on duty 07 for first time but not really necessary as only families there who tend to watch the pool anyway. The food is lovely although a little limited in choice on all inclusive could not eat full time here but as we have option of eating at other hotels as well this is not a problem. Menu more varied for non all inclusive guests and breakfast much improved in 07 compared to 06. If you want entertainment at night the San Luis is the place to go but as shows etc do not start until ten o'clock we have never bothered as it is a good walk back, land train only runs between seven and ten at night. We get the bus outside the apartments into Mahon every year only takes 15 minutes then walk to harbour (downhill) lovely boat trips about an hour for 8 euro. Save some energy for walk back to bus station as uphill we have never managed to get a taxi from the harbour. We are returning 08 and am trying to book for 09 at the moment but First Choice are not on general sale at the moment so trying other tour operators, flights are not really cheap to Menorca so a package tends to work out better. A word or warning the lovely beach which you get to over the wall outside Las Palmeras previously mentioned (be careful of the cliff) is actually being used as a nudist beach by the Germans so probably best to be prepared. "S'algar is a fantastic place to visit if you want to relax and have a week sitting by the pool. I have now been 5 times and can't wait to go back again - me and my mum keep saying we'd love to live there!! Everything is clean and spotless and the staff are friendly. I have two teenage sisters who love the place and always make lots of friends, who they have kept in touch with over the years, which seems to be a common thing as everyone seems to know someone from previous holidays. I would recommend going into Mahon (easy on the bus which picks up outside the apartments) and taking a boat trip around the harbour."
