Great modern urban hotel with wonderful views
"I can't quite believe the variety of review on this hotel. We came here last year as the hotel we had booked did not have a room for us so we came to the Hamilton for 3 nights. We came back this year for a full week as we liked it so much. I'll start with the downsides 1. Yes no beach at this hotel 2. Yes not in Mahon but not far away by taxi, water taxi or 30 min walk to Mahon harbor 3. Yes rooms are small but very good quality 4. Pool are not big - if you want to do lots of lengths then either go somewhere else or go in the sea right out the front. Upsides to the hotel 1. Very modern - nicely finished and nothing feels old or out of date 2. Great location to go for a walk in Es Castel - this is not a city but very pleasant walk immediately outside of the hotel 3. Rooms are lovely. Our tour operator gets a superior room with kettle 4. Air conditioning works very well 5. Lovely Egyptian lined sheets on the bed and very comfortable beds 6. Entertainment down stair and on the roof for all tastes 7. 15 minutes from the airport 8. Friendly staff with organized activities 9. No problem getting sun lounger or shade due to the layout of the court yard. Lots more sun lounger on the roof. 10. Can eat outside which we really like 11. Food - we found the variety to be great. Top tips 1. Bring some tea and coffee for the kettle 2. See if you can get a room facing the courtyard appositive the river as you get sun on the balcony 3. Bring your own towels if you don't want to pay for the hotel ones 4. Use the water taxi it is a lot of fun and not that expensive "

"Breakfast was good, both English & Continental but sadly the evening meals were a great letdown all too much of the same with not enough choice & I found the food cool rather than hot. It's a shame having paid so much for the holiday."

Barcelo Hamilton best hotel I have ever stayed in
"I have stayed at many hotels in my life but this is the best stayed in 2012 loved every minute of it totally relaxing but do get a sea view room. It's worth the extra the pool is small but adequate. Go to the roof to to enjoy the jaccuzi great. Plus fantastic views. Hotel very clean food excellent fridge in room with free water every day local bus just 5 minute walk away 10 minutes into Mahon We have already booked for this year the only complaint don't arrive too early as you will have to wait for your room. The small village is just a five minute walk away All in all great worthy of 10 out of 10 those who complain want to get a life or get their booking correct next time."

Loved this hotel....
"Stayed here with hubby - had the most wonderful time in the pools, on the rooftop in the freezing jacuzzi (is it only brits that get into freezing water?)... lovely people, visitors and staff alike. The short walk to the port is wonderful - and the Spar in the other direction is no further. Plenty of time to just chill.... Room was lovely - as was my balcony. View was incredible. Breakfast was really impressive. Really loved it."

"This hotel ISNT in Mahon, it is in Es Castell. Es Castell IS NOT A RESORT,it is run down, no beach & with a few sea food restaurants. To get to a decent beach (45 mins away) you have to hire a car- approx £98 for 3 days/ go on 1 of the tour operator trips.Parking very limited @ hotel. The hotel itself is modern, but totally impractical.Rooms small, with no "real" bathroom. No full size mirror.Pool area very small, dark & cramped.Only 50 sun loungers & 5 parasols for 166 rooms.Someone needed a calculator I think! You have to pay for the safety deposit & also pool towels,if you use more than 2 a week.Pool very small- 2 strokes & you're across!Staff try to be helpful. BEWARE- these photo's are mixed & what you see isnt always what you get."

Dont book this hotel
"THIS is NOT a 3STAR hotel. Food very poor standard always cold. At breakfast you would have left over veg and potatoes. Very repatative meals. Had to pay 150 euros to have a sea veiw. Rooms very clean but no kettle, hair dryer. Pool to small only 50 sunbeds, and they where always taken by the SELFISH TOWEL night fairys. Never never again, would we stay at that hotel. Glad we where not all inclusive, half board was bad enough. They could do with a visit from the hotel inspector. And if you like air con then take you own fan theirs is crap complained 5 times, ended up having to sleep with door open, and getting eaten alive. The only ones that get 10/10 are the chamber maids "

would go back to mahon but not this hotel
"The hotel rooms are very nice, no problem at all. The air-con was useless, Told reception 3 times that it wasn`t working, only the fan, and not the cold air, reception said they would have a look at it but it was always the same no cold air, Then had a word with the thomas cook rep and that night it came on, we did not have to sleep with the balcony doors open all night, but that was for only one night out of 14!! it went off after that and never came back on, they just didn`t want to know.If you go all inclusive you still have to pay for your drinks with your evening meal but you get them half price and thats the local beer as well only thing you dont pay for is water, but other guests do pay for water. Now lets go to the food, If you like your food just warm thats the meat and the veg, fine. it was never anything but warm and the meat was always cheap cuts ie, liver, chicken nuggets, ox tail, sausages, the chicken was ok though but even that was only warm.... Had a word with the rep and she said she had a lot of complants about the quality of the food. the pool was very small for the size of the hotel and there was never enough sunbeds. if you stay at this hotel i hope you have a better time than i did...... My wife and i will not be going back there."

Great Location, Tired Hotel !!
"Just returned back from a weeks all inclusive stay at Hotel Hamilton, Mahon. The holiday overall was great and would give that 9/ 10, but the review is for the hotel and so give it 3/ 10 AGAINST: POOL - Unable to get a seat by the pool as they were RESERVED with towels, before 7:00 EVERY morning. It was also TINY and only benefitted from the sun after 11:30. FOOD - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner very repetative. Always cold!! Come day 4 i couldnt eat in the hotel anymore, and resorted to PAYING for food in the local restaurants. ROOMS - On arrival we had to pay EXTRA for a see view room, even though we had paid for it and produced the receipt from the tour operator. Be warned, we werent the only people this had happened too, and the only way to get the room was pay an additional 5 euros per person. The rooms are VERY tired, and in desperate need of modernization. NO FRIDGE, NO HAIRDRYERS and towels changed every other day. DRINKS - BE WARNED!!! The All inclusive drinks lack alchohol. If you want to a PROPER Drink you will need to BUY the proper wine/ spirits. BEACH - The nearest beach is a 45 minute bus ride away and NOT 800 meters as the brochures say. FOR: Location is fantastic. The local harbour is an idilic place to eat, drink or just sit and watch the world go by. The locals are really friendly, and there was no pressure to buy when visiting the shops. The WHOLE of the area is extremely clean, even the local bins are emptyed daily. The sea view rooms are clean, tidy and have great views, but these do come at an additional premium!! The local bus stop was approx 500 metres away, (Up Hill), but the buses were on-time, cheap (1.55 euros one way to Mahon) and air conditioned. Mahon is a great place to shop or browse, and the Port, with the Cruisers and Ships is a must to visit. You can catch the water taxi (The Glass Bottomed Boat) for 5 euros per person, that will take you to the local harbour, only 200 metres from the hotel. A must do as the views are breath taking. Our REP was great. Always at the hotel on time every day. He was very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for him. We will DEFINETLEY be going back to Menorca, even Es Castell, but not this hotel. It is not a EUROPEAN 3 star, i would only give it 2 Stars."

never go there again
"this is not a three star hotel its more like a one star bedroom was falling apart and not cleaned the food was the same day in day out the whole hotel needs redoing we were told there was a beach there is not beach not even 800m away as they tell you not a place to take kids this is one hotel we will not be going back to "

Will definately return.
"We went all inclusive and couldn't have wished for better. The food was excellent with so much choice it was difficult to decide what to have. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean.I still think about relaxing and having a coffee on that wonderful terrace watching the ships coming in and out from Mahon.Es Castell is a quiet place so I would not recommend it if you want a noisy nightclub type of holiday."

Great Value For Money
"We were a bit wary about this having read varying reviews but could find no fault whatsover with any aspect of this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was plentiful and with way too much choice. So much choice that we ended up eating far more than was good for us! There was something for everyone and you could eat as healthily (or otherwise) as you liked. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean too. Our only real complaint was lack of coat hangers in the wardrobes. This hotel provided fanastic value for money and, should we return to Menorca, would definitely return"

"I have just returned from a week at the Barcelo Hamilton Es Castille. My partner and 10 month old son were looking forward to the break. The hotel is small some 160 rooms. The rooms are dated, the beds uncomfortable, these were twin beds which were more camp beds. The cot was good quality, stable and clean. The room was clean but the decor needed updating. The door was broken as if it had been forced open at some stage then a bodge repair done. The staff were friendly even with alot of spanish in the hotel. We were not expecting the Ritz,I have been to Barcelo hotels before and they were of a very high standard. The food,I have never eaten so much salad in all my life. The menu consisted of Hake one day then every day after there was the same but each time with a different sauce,we also had Pigs Trotters and Tripe. The hotel would be ok for the older clientele, but even some SAGA holidaymakers were not impressed. For famililys it would be the wrong hotel and resort, for older people its a possibility."
