Hotel Cala 'N Blaines
"Just returned today from a 2 week all inclusive at the Cala n Blanes Menorca.
This hotel is fine if you have children but very noisy if not, Don't go if you prefer quite couples only. Entertainment was poor but well catered for the children. Food was very monotonous after 2 weeks but then again you would get that anywhere!!
The beach was terrible, Not very roomy and compacted sand, This got washed away after a bad storm while we stayed there so was made even worse. However, we have been on the island before and went to our favourite beach (gonna keep that one quite if you don't mind as it's a lovely beach). hint.....it aint Cala Galdana if your trying to guess.
I do a lot of Scuba diving so have most of my fun under the water and this is where Menorca excels, Hardly red sea but some amazing underwater caverns.
The rooms at the Blanes is hit and miss, You may be lucky and get a 4th floor with balcony overlooking the beach or you may as some people we met strike it most unlucky and get what we all nicknamed the barn which is a pokey little room with one...YES one window. At least we got 2 large windows on the 1st floor which opened out to make up for the lack of a balcony.
Staff are fine, No probs there and they do keep the hotel nice and clean though as you can imagine it takes a hundred kids literally seconds to mess it up again. 1st choice reps didn't want to know about any problems and were quite unhelpful to a number of people we met but as we had no probs cannot really comment too much there.
All in all don't be too worried if you have already booked or are thinking of booking, It's a decent enough place and you will have a good time but get out and explore as within 10mins there are some lovely little coves to find.
We won't be going back though, Once was enough and there are better hotels on the island.

"gorgeous view from balcony ask for a room on the 4th or 5th floor you can look right out over the inlet and beach.
hotel immaculately clean
food ok but quite repetitive ate out quite a lot
if you need to soak in the island you will definately need a car to explore,as there were no small hire cars available due to the school holidays we needed to upgrade this ended up to be quite expensive.it was worth it because cal'n blanes is quite isolated.
the water park in cal'n forcat was a fab day out just perfect for my daughters birthday treat( my husband enjoyed it too)
all in all an ok holiday i think we'll go for an area with a bit more life next year."

"Our party consisted of 2 adults and a 5 year old who thoroughly loved the 'Bugs Bunny Club' and Mini Disco. The rooms were clean and adequate. The hotel/First Choice staff were second to none! The beach which we overlooked was great although small. Jellyfish were a slight problem sometimes. Avoid room 106 if you have small children - as it is immediately above the entertainment stage (although entertainment stops at 12 midnight). The food was fair but quite reptetive (hope you like chips!). Theme nights were great to watch especially the Latino and African. The bar was good - and for all you beer drinkers San Miguel on tap. If you want a soft drink stick to the Fanta Lemon though! There is even the use of a free washing/tumbledrier should you require one. The pool is good, but be prepared to be down for 8.30 am to get a sunbed. The shallow end of the pool is 1.46m deep - no easy walk in only ladders. The kids pool was great only 0.5m. Hope you enjoy yourselves because we did."

Super Holiday in Menorca
"Just returned from a week at this lovely hotel. Spotlessly clean, with friendly bar and reception staff. All inclusive food great with a super variety and of high quality. Ideal for families. Kids reps excellent and keep the children entertained all day with fun activities. Evening entertainment good. Would certainly love to return to his hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending to others."

"Just got back from holiday, and had a great time. Hotel was excellent, staff very friendly, entertainment first class, food great, lots of selection.
Club for the kids was excellent, the 2 kids reps, Jo and Emma were first class, my little boy was well looked after and he enjoyed every minute.
The surrounding area is lovely, plenty to see and do. Lovely views if you take the time to have a walk around.
Would recommend this hotel to families, it has everything they need.
Thanks to all."

"I have recently been to Menorca and it is an amazing place to be and spend a 2 week holiday (wish I could have stayed longer). It has the most breath taking views and scenery you could imagin, and the hotel was brilliant. We were given a beach side appartment so we had a great view of the cove (Hotels private beach). Not alot of our time was spent at the beach, but on occasions we just chilled out with a few pints and soaked up the sun.
The appartments are basic, however these normally are used as just a base and place to sleep. No point in spending so much money to stay in your rooms when theres so many sights to be seen and so much to do. Even though the rooms were basic, the beds were comfy and the bathroom was nice. Air-con was great for the weather we experienced. Overall very decent rooms, alot of room and if you do decide to book here, place a special request in for a beach side view.
The pool at the hotel was really nice, great size and they had a seperate pool for the kids. The only let down for this holiday, which isnt just the hotel, is that all the pools in Menorca has sulphur in them. Not a bad point for most people, but my Dad is allergic to sulphur so he ended up in a massive rash. Nothing serious, but after this we were advised by the cleaners that most, if not all the pools contain sulphur. Just a little heads for you there.
The activities at the hotel were really good aswel. Football, tennis, archery, rifle shooting, you name it they did it. With in reason that is. We took part in most of these, but they are strickt on age if you are wanting to take part in archery and rifle shooting. 16+ to take part.
Entertainment was great fun, always got kids involved. Cant really remember much of the entertainment though, but with what i saw and remember, the entertainment was great. If the adults didnt like it, the children loved it.
Even though this holiday is a family based holiday, the atmosphere is relaxing and you dont have children running around screaming. Even if there where, i wouldnt have been bothered, but as i have read in many reviews for many hotels, people can get arsey about this, even though in 99.9% of all hotel descriptions, they do say that it is for families.
If you are to book, or have booked to come here, you havent made a mistake, and i do recommend hiring a car to venture out to see the many sights of Menorca. About 20 mins from the hotel (by car) is a Go-Karting track. The prices are cheap and you get about 15 minutes on the track. Great fun. Also water parks are a must. The people at the receptionist will galdly help! They did us. I went on this holiday with my parents and my brother (15) and there was something for us all. Also, at one of the coves which we found, they did many water sports such as water skiing and diving. I think i saw a sign saying they did hand-gliding aswel.
BUT please beware of some coves and take note of signs as they do have a bad case of jelly-fish!
Overall great holiday! Would recommend this to anyone of all ages. It has the fun factor and also a relaxing factor! Great holiday for all! Some people have left average reviews for this hotel. Its far from average.
Oh and the food was great, always something new and always tasted good. Snaks available all day, and drinks were really good. Ice cream available all day from the resturante and pool bar!
Hope you enjoy!

good for families
"We came back from 'hotel cala'n blanes' last week. As with all holidays, I wish I was still there! But, it is most definatly a hotel (and island) geared up for young children. I went with my partner and our 3 year old son, Alex. Alex had a great time as there is a kids club and the beach is right on the doorstep. But when your children are in the kids club, you get very bored as you can't go far and there's really nothing to do. Apart from join in with the hotel games which can get boring. The beach was lovely for the first couple of days, but soon filled up, so the sun loungers were then put out and took up almost all of the beach. (For 2 sun loungers and a parosol - 16 euros! We didn't bother)! We usually hire a car when we go away, but didn't bother this time, and we really wish we did, as menorca is a lovley island and we didn't get to see any of it, and it would of cured our boredom.
As for the hotel, it was kept extremly clean and the staff were very helpful, hardworking and friendly. They do a really good job. Same goes for the first choice kids club reps - Emazing Emma and Jolly Jo, they took really good care of Alex, who is usually abit shy and qiute around new people. (THANK YOU)! The food was ok, sometimes really nice, sometimes otherwise. There were a few things that you had to taste to find out what it was, and you could get a nasty shock!! Squid, in breadcumbs!! The breakfast was great. But all holiday, Alex just ate chips and ice cream, and haribo's from the vending machine which was a rip off.
If you get the chance, follow the signs for cala n brut (to the left as you leave the hotel road, at the junction). It is a lovely spot to sit, and if you follow it back you will find the worlds smallest beach!! We used to hire the bikes (free of charge), and cycle around. The coast road to Cuitadella is very nice."
