5 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"We arrived at night in a thunderstorm and to be told by a helpful fellow guest that we had to climb about forty steps just to find out what apartment we were in was galling to say the least. Unfortunately we were in one of the very top apartments, nice view of the flood plain and wooded hill but oh, those steps. Not for the faint of heart, and carrying supplies just about gave us both heart failure. The apartment itself is indeed basic, two halogen rings and a microwave, a very small TV and very uncomfortable seats. The bedroom smelt musty, and indeed my husband had to use his inhaler because of the damp. My bedside light had no bulb in it which I reported to the girls the first morning but nothing ever happened. The clothes all smelt after a while, it was impossible to air the place as the hill continues at the back of the upper apartments so no through air. The bath is really small, about three feet in length and the shower is very cheap plastic over bath. It was hit and miss as to whether you would get enough pressure to shower, but I must admit when it was good, it was good! The towels were old and very over washed, one was almost see-through. They were only changed once in our weekly stay, when they gave us one more toilet roll ... We bought more! The location is good, a walk to Cala Galdana itself past some very nice restaurants. The local 'supermarkets' are a bit of a rip off but Supermarket 2000 had some very nice Rioja at the best prices in the town, but there is nowhere in Cala Galdana (that we found) where one can buy meat, not that you can do anything but fry it anyway, so you are really forced to go out. The pool area is small, there are plastic loungers available but every one has splits in the plastic which could do real damage to the unwary. Other residents were cute and bought blow up beds to use on these loungers. "

Es Desmais Reveiw
"Cala Galdana is a wonderful place. The Es Desmais appartments are about a 10 minute stroll to the beach. I have read many reveiws saying that there is a steep incline to the appartments, well there isn't really, the only problem being the 80 or so steps from top to bottom, that I could see being a problem for less-fit or inevitably disable people. The appartments are clean and the small number of staff are friendly: on the first day we discovered a leak in the ceiling to our appartment (no. 13), however we were plesantly surpried when the problem was soon patched up and resolved. The only work I found myself doing is occasionally sweeping the ants away from where we were storing food in the higher cupboards in the kitchen area. The veiws from the appartments on to the marshlands (South-East facing only) were spectacular, and me and my family often sat on a morning watching the ariel-acrobatics of the Thrushes, Herons and Egrets over the river that leads down to the small harbour and sea. "Apartments located within few minutes walk of all amenities but in a quieter area of Cala Galdana on a no through road. Block comprises of about 20 apartments plus pool with separate child's section. No reception - have to catch the cleaners between 1-2pm to find out which apartment allocated to and collect key. Apartments very clean and functional - all have a balcony, TV and microwave. Linen/towels changed once during the week we were there. Would stay there again but highest apartments reached via approximately 100 steps so families with small children or the elderly should request an apartment with a low number which is nearer ground level. "Lovely quiet resort ideal for families and those who want a relaxing holiday without late night discos and bars. The beach is lovely with shallow water, good for little ones to paddle! The brollies and beds are expensive to hire so be warned!! Our favourite places to eat were the beach bars excellent value day and night. Our only bad experience was in the one all the guide books recommended which was El Mirador overlooking the beach, bad service, poor food and we waited for over an hour to be served! The apartments we stayed in were clean but basic, situated at the end of the resort and very quiet. We have been to this resort twice now and enjoyed both times although hiring a car and seeing some of the other quieter beaches is well worth it. Will definitely be going back. Enjoy!"
