"My husband and I, in our late fifties, stayed at the Alta Galdana for one week in July. It had been seven years since we had been abroad and were a little apprehensive. Should not have worried at all. The Alta is basic but has a really good atmosphere and is so near to the beach, it is brilliant. Very friendly staff and restaurant onsite is good. We did a lot of self catering and the shop at the Flora Mar up the hill is brilliant and well stocked. Cala Galdana is perfect and we will be going again this year. Alta Galdana is basic but you learn to adapt very quickly and you are on holiday and we got a good late deal with no extra supplements added. Good walk along the coast to the right to the next bay. "

Great Bargain Break
"We booked the Alta Galdana as a last minute deal on recommendation of the travel agent, the holiday turned out to be a really great bargain at a beautiful location, staying in clean, comfortable but basic accomodation. The apartments has a decent size pool area which is kept clean, there are plenty of steps to help you walk off the extra holiday calories and some of the rooms have roof terraces (request one if you can). The Sa LLuna resturant is worth a try but if you walk further round into the resort, The Cala Matjaina is a must."

Loved the holiday-inspite of apartments!
"Just returned from the Alta Cala Galdana Apts today after a wonderful holiday. The apartments are in a great location although the whole complex is very steep-so beware. Highly unsuitable for buggies & people with walking difficulties and a killer getting suitcases up the steps even for the able bodied! The beach is only a 5 minute walk away and what a beach it is! Beautiful! Sunbeds & pedaloes are available on the beach and there is plenty of shade from the surrounding trees. Its a perfect beach for young children. The apartment complex has a reception that is only open for limited periods, not 24 hours. We had a small two bedroom "ground floor" (approx 20 plus steps!) apartment that was perfectly adequate for one week. The kitchen was well equiped with all you could want; toaster, microwave, kettle, hob etc & plenty of utensils. Our fridge was very rusty & old and the kitchen cupboards were chipboard and were falling apartment. Safety deposit box available. Each room has a ceiling fan but no air conditioning. Not too much of a problem as you can safely open all windows allowing the breeze to blow through. We had one towel & sheet change during our stay. Apartment had a small TV with CBBC, so great for the kids when they finally leave the pool and need a "time-out". The apartments are 'surface' clean but skirting boards etc need a good scrub!! The pool area is clean with plenty of sunbeds but limited umbrellas! Most people bought their own from the nearby supermarket. The restaurant adjoining the apartments, Sa Lluna, is wonderful! Great food, lovely people & reasonably priced. Gets very busy at night & sometimes you have to queue to get in. We also loved the restaurant 'Delit' opposite the apartments & next to the supermarket. Avoid the restaurant set in the cliff overlooking the sea-fantastic location but very over priced, disappointing food! Overall, we loved the resort & the location of the apartments but don't expect too much of this small complex!"

The fantastic Alta Galdana
"My boyfriend and I stayed at the Alta Galdana apartments for one week, we really enjoyed our holiday. After reading other reviews we were worried about the steps; however on arrival it was clear that unless you have walking difficulties the steps are not a problem. The apartments are perfect; clean and contain everything you need for cooking snacks and breakfast. All rooms have a patio or balcony, which was lovely to sit out on. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The apartments are in a great location, close to restaurants/bars, shops and the beach. The pool is a good size and there are plenty of sun beds as well as umbrellas and shade. The restaurant Sa Lluna is as good as all the reviews say, probably the best on the resort, it has a wide variety of food and drink, served all through the day, reasonably priced, tastes fantastic! At night time the restaurant plays a variety of music to unwind to, oil lamps are put around the out side tables â looks excellent, great place to relax. We will definitely be staying at these apartments again!"

"Well what a place !!! Yes - there are many many steps, so the elderly or infirm should be warned!!!! but ignore these and the place is practically perfect. It has basic accomadation, but all your holiday needs are there. Tidy, clean and VERY friendly. We were in room 20A which we reckoned to be the best in the place with a surprise in that we had a large roof terrace all to ourselves with a 360 degree panoramic view of the whole bay. The bay itself is simply stunning with just enough bars and restaraunts to provide variety without becoming too comercial. Its location on the south coast is central, so it is ideal for exploring the island. The only small hic-up we had was finding it !! We didn't come by coach, but hired a car and it took a while to find !! Look for a resauraunt called Sa Lluna and you are there. This restaraunt is also fabulous. superb food, very good value for money and excellant service. We will definatly be returning!!!"

Great basic apartments in a great location
"We stayed at the Alta Galdana apartments in Cala Galdana in September 2006 and had a fantastic time. The apartments are basic, but clean with all the facilities you would expect... including CBeebies! They are in a great location - just five minutes walk from the beach and handy for bars, restaurants, hotels etc. We were a bit worried about the hills and steps mentioned in some previous reviews, but it wasn't much of a problem... but it probably would have been if we were old or unfit. Best restaurant we found in the whole resort was Sa Lluna, which is below the apartments. We tried others, but ended up eating there most nights. The owner, Peter, and his staff are fantastic and really looked after us and made us feel at home. The food was wonderful and I can't recommend it highly enough. Don't waste your time, tastebuds and money trying other places, just go here on the first night and decide for yourself! They were also really good with our little boy - nothing was too much bother. Another restaurant worth trying is Delit, across the road. They do a nice set menu, which is worth a look. They also have lots of things for children to do inside while you are eating - including toys, books, games and a TV showing cartoons. The beach at Cala Galdana is stunning - really beautiful. Lots of nice swimming pools nearby too if you fancy a change. If you have children, it's also well worth checking out the adjacent hotel to the Alta Galdana - the one just up the hill. It has a nice pool as well as a good soft play room and tortoises in the garden - our little boy loved it! Alll in all, great basic apartments in a great location... with an absolutely fantastic restaurant right on your doorstep. Main downside would be the steps and hills - but it will only be a problem if you have mobility problems or are unfit."

"The accomadation was basic but quite adequate. We had a 2 bedroom app which was fine for our needs. We were lucky and had a rooftop patio, but i imagine the ground floor acc. can be a bit dark. Well managed, apps were clean and hygenic, the site and pool well maintained. Its a bit of a deal for the elderly as there are a good number of steps to the upper accom. Attached restaurant provided excellent food and plenty of eateries locally. Due to local laws nowhere to buy tobacco in Cala galdana but excellent bus service to Ferriers 7km. No major supermarkets locally for big shops but plenty of local shops. Cala Galdana is in my opinion the best resort for kids on the island having visisted most of them during our stay. it's clean, compact, central to the island and has an excellent beach and island bus service, with lots of local facilities. We have tried to book again for next year but unfortunately First choice have removed the Alta Galdna apps from their brochure and I can't find anyone who is now offering these apps for next year .Shame really"

"Just got back from a fortnights holiday at the Alta Galdana apartments and i have mixed feelings about the place. Apartments were a fair standard with the major plus being they have two bedrooms. They were basic but clean and had a tv, fridge and microwave. The tv had around five English channels on it although our arial mustve been dodgy as now and again the picture froze. The towels were only changed twice a week and we found we had to buy extra toilet paper as we werent given enough. Our main gripe with the apartments was how high up from the resort they were. The hill from the Audax Hotel wasnt too bad but then there were several flights of stairs to get from the road to were we were staying.I know some people here have played down this problem and that it does warn you in the brochure but believe me it IS an issue.I strongly recommend if you are unfit, have walking difficulties or are just plain lazy to consider somewhere else.It certainly isnt much fun climbing so many steps in such high temperatures and a belly full of Paella and San Miguel ! On the positive side the staff at the apartments and the adjoining Sa Lluna bar were very friendly as were the other families around the pool. The poolside was fairly quiet (probably because everyone was knackered walking up the hill) and had a friendly relaxing ambience. The meals at the Sa Lluna were excellent and the only reason we didnt dine there more often (four nights out of fourteen) was because we enjoy trying different restaurants. Over all we found the apartments good value for money and if you dont mind the position of them i would recommend them for families with young children."

"The Alta Galdana Appartments are basic, a little cramped and may cause difficulties for those who wish to do their own catering. Having said that, they were clean and well presented. The location means that there is something of a climb to access some of the upper accomodation but this would only be a problem for anyone with mobility problems. The pool was an adequate size and the sunbeds were always available. There is a short walk downhill (about 5/10 mins depending on pace) to the small harbour and beach. Again this would only be a problem for people with mobility problems. The Sa Lluna Resaurant was excellent, good food, good selection and a reasonable price. Peter the manager makes you very welcome and the staff especially Laura are very friendly. The Sa Lluna Bar which is just below is run by "Bep" and is a bit of a glue pot he only closes when you leave!. There is pool and other games for kids of all ages and Football on TV if that is what takes your fancy. There is a small supermarket directly opposite the Appartments and a larger one 3 mins walk further up the hill. Cars can be hired from the establishment opposite or an even cheaper outlet next to the Sa lluna Bar. We hired a Fiat Punto Cabrio from here for 139 euros for three days. The resort itself is spectacularly picturesque, the beach shelves very gradually and is fantastic for snorkeling. The fish are not at all shy. I was approached by a ray which obviously wanted feeding, quite an experience! It is lovely to walk around the beach after an evening meal paddling your feet in the warm water. There are short but taxing walks in either direction out f the resort which take you to other small sandy coves.(45/60 mins) All in all we would highly recommend this location families and older couples who have simple needs and just want to relax."

Perfection in a nutshell
"We stayed at alta galdana apartments for 2 weeks in june and fell in love with it. Apartments clean and tidy even though a bit basic, bit of a walk up steps but view worth it, pool great for every one. The sa lluna restaurant attached is excellent ( never had such a wonderful omlette in my life), plenty of variety and well priced. The owner Peter is great as are his staff and they make you feel so welcome especially kids. The resort of cala galdana is so beautiful you couldnt ask for a prettier place to stay, especially if you have younger children ( our four year old wants to live there). When you go to the beach take with you some broken biscuits as you can feed the fish in the water. If you dont like the typical "blackpool by the sea" resorts then stay away from cala blanes as that is what it is like. We hated it as it was full of the typical english Football and tattoo yobs. We have just booked to go again on 26th Aug 05 as we loved it that much, couldnt get alta galdana but thats not stopped us and we will be at galdana a lot during our next 2wk stay. Cant wait for another omlette."
