In the western corner of the Balearic island of Mallorca is Santa Ponsa, a lively beach resort that attracts thousands of sun seekers on package holiday deals every year. It was at this white sand bay that Spaniard James I of Aragon landed in 1229 to begin his conquest of the island. Although the resort is a favourite amongst visitors from Ireland and Scotland, holidays in Santa Ponsa attract a wide range of nationalities, which is evident on the beach and in the resort’s bars. This is in part thanks to the deep water marina of Port Adriano, which can accommodate the luxury super yachts that belong to the rich and famous.

The impressive main beach has to be the biggest draw for visitors here, with hundreds of sunbeds and parasols laid across the sand like patchwork. Activities on and in the water, like banana boat rides and speed boat trips, are very popular, along with more serious sports such as scuba diving and water skiing. The smaller beach near the marina is perfect for families with small children owing to its calm waters. Golf enthusiasts have three large golf courses to choose from and all are just a short drive away. For visitors who want to try horse riding or are already accomplished riders, the Santa Ponsa Riding Club has excellent facilities for riders of all ages and abilities.

The restaurants here are a mixed bunch, with many establishments promoting Celtic roots and offering a menu along the same theme. Whether it‘s kebabs, pizzas, or paella you are after, you can be sure to find it here. There are also plenty of bars playing live music in the evenings, and a few nightclubs to keep the young and energetic partying until the morning. Package holidays in Santa Ponsa have something for everyone, and are a quieter option than Magaluf and some other resorts close to Palma de Mallorca.
