13 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"This hotel was in an excellent location, opposite the beach, lovely soft sand and warm sea. Hotel was very clean and rooms were basic but adequate for your stay, clean towels every day and the bed was made up too. Food was good, lots of choice, could have been a bit hotter though, wine was expensive to buy with your meal. Could think about investing in a small fridge for the room to keep your bottled water in. We had a sea view with balcony which was well worth the extra cost, stunning views all around. Staff helpful and most of the time friendly. Lovely terrace to sit in, in the evenings with a drink. Evening entertainment was ok some of the time, better entertainment around the corner at 'Palms', but we didn't find this out until it was almost time to come home. Would definately visit again. Perfect for me
"I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay. Across the road from a lovely beach - plenty of loungers and umbrellas. The choice of food was excellent both morning and evening. The staff were great - all very helpful and friendly. Only one complaint, the rooms could do with sound-proofing. Due to the tiled floors one can hear footsteps, anything dropped, furniture being moved, etc. also bathroom water noises. I will definitely be returning to this hotel for another holiday because the first one was so good!"

Having read some hotel reviews prior to ...
"Having read some hotel reviews prior to our holiday, we were rather apprehensive about the hotel. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very conveniently placed directly across from the beach and a stroll along the pine walk took you to plenty of bars and restaurants. We had a balcony/ sea-view room which was definitely worth the extra cost having a 180 degree view of the bay. The rooms tended to be small but were clean and towels were changed regularly.Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Food was buffet - style with plenty of choice. Wine with meals was expensive but the same bottle could be bought round at the corner shop for 1/3 of the price. A very relaxing holiday and we would stay at this hotel again."

Reasonable Hotel, Excellent Location
"I only stayed here one night towards the end of May 2007. i found the hotel to be perfectly functional, helpful staff and reasonably priced. I paid 60 Euros for a double room for the night - no singles left and they insisted I pay the double room price! Anyway, here are some thoughts: - Right facing onto the beach and has it's own stretch of (nice soft sand) beach. - Nice gardens at front with tables and served from the small bar (helpful and smiling staff). Got a few mossie bites though so apply some insect repellent in the evenings... - Lobby older style v. high ceilings and sieable sitting around area. - Everything about the hotel is older style - but it has some character. Ancient lift, etc. - My double room was OK. The room and furniture were quite dated and a little 'tired' Nice shuttered windows to front (I was on 2nd floor above the Blacony rooms. - Few things would have been nice:- There was no aircon, no fridge, no kettle...There were two small bar of carbolic style soap but there was no shampoo provided. - Bathroom was recently refurbed and was splendid and sizeable. Water in shower went a bit hot and cold when using it (or when someone else in the hotel was using it I guess). - There's a room safe in the wardrobe as well. - Everything - room and hotel - very clean. - Quite a lot of older people there - but that may have been more the May season than the hotel clientelle itself. - Long trousers required for the resto - I didn't use it so no comment to make on that. - Parking is on the street but I was able to leave the hire car right outside and free of charge. - about 10 minutes walk to the 'town centre'. Nice promenade just over the road."

sea view not needed
"We have just returned from a week staying at the Hotel Pollentia to be fair this is a very clean hotel and the food is of a good standard. The rooms are drab and the beds are not very comfortable, they were like camp beds. A sea view was not needed even though we had one as the weather was particularly bad and seeing the bay looking wind battered and sea extremely rough the shutters on the window were rarely opened. This hotel is more suited to mature customers who enjoy reading as there is nothing else happening in it . The hotel lacks atmosphere and with a young family with us they were extremely bored at the lack of facilites on offer. A Bailie and family disappointed customers of The Pollencia Hotel"

Only for the fit and able
"We enjoyed a good holiday here on a package tour. The hotel is a standard 3 star hotel as used by package operators. The food is good and the views from the balconies are excellent, although you get much the same view from the first floor terrace and the garden. The public areas are very comfortable with the exception of the indoor part of the bar, which is rather run down. The hotel is located about 1 kilometer from the centre of the town although it feels nearer 1 mile walking back with the sun in your eyes. You usually have to go into town to access the bus service, as although there are convenient bus stops, the buses are often full by the time they get there. The main problem with the hotel are the number of steps. There are 12 steps up to the main reception area and 15 down to the dining room or the bar. The lift only goes up from reception. This did not bother us but was a problem to some guests who used mobility aids. The town is very attractive, as is the surrounding area, and it is easy to get to the old towns of Pollenca and Alcudia by public transport, and even with a bit of planning, through the mountains to Soller."

Get a sea view room!
"Concur with the other postings. If you only get offered a room without a balcony and sea view then book somewhere else! The rooms at the back are dark and a bit dingy. There is nowhere to dry swimming costumes, towels etc. In every other respect the hotel was fine. The food was good, the staff friendly and the location absolutely terrific."

"Myself and my partner (aged 26 and 24) spent a week here in August 2006. I would definitely recommend this hotel. We paid extra for a room with balcony and sea view and this is worthwhile. A room at the back of the hotel will not have particularly inspiring views! The location is fantastic and the rooms are perfectly adequate. There is no air con but a fan was provided in our room on arrival, which was sufficient. Lovely powerful showers, plenty of hot water. The food was varied, with plenty of choice and the option of trying local dishes. You get allocated a table at the start of the week, and if you buy a bottle of wine/water and don't finish it, then they take it away and return it to your table the following night. The guests at the hotel were mainly middle-aged British couples, but also some younger couples, the odd family, and some French and Spanish visitors. The sandy beach across the road is fabulous. Sun lounger hire was 10 euros for a double with a palm umbrella for the day, which is a little steep but worth it. The sea is perfectly clear, warm and with lots of fish, even in the shallow water!"

A real Find!
"After reading some negative reviews of the hotel my partner and I were not sure what to expect. But I have to say I think this is one of the nicest places I have come across. The hotel is clean and looks quite grand when you walk in. It is decorated in a typically spanish way and has a lovely feel to it. You Can't beat the location as it is right opposite the beach and we paid extra for a room with a sea view which is definatly worth doing. The room was basic but clean and tidy and ur view from the balcony was amazing. we went half board thinking we would probally eat out a couple of times but the food was so good we ate at the resturant every night. The breakfast was also really good. It has a bar area outside that does really good lunches and every couple of nights there was entertainment, although nothing to intrusive one of the nights was a traditional flamenco show, so while watching that sipping sangria you can't really get more spanish!! The hotel dosen't have a pool but we were allowed to use the pool of the hotel next door, but to be honest with the sea on your doorstep we didn't ever use the pool. The resort as a whole was fantastic the beach and sea were really clean and well looked after, and further into the town there were lots of nice resturants and bars. We also pre - hired a car at hyper car hire based in Puerto Pollenca for around £50 for three days which again is worth doing as you can visit Formentor, Valdemossa and soiller which are also really pretty and worth a visit. All in all this hotel is fantastic you will have a great time! we would definatly go back."

Our 7th visit to Puerto Pollensa
"We have just returned from a two weeks holiday at the Hotel Pollentia in Puerto Pollensa. The hotel is excellent and is situated on the sea front, we had just bed and breakfast as there are so many wonderful eating places around. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Just one negative point our friends stayed in room 106 and unfortunately there was a terrible smell there from time to time, we did inform the staff who went up to the room but the smell didn't really go away so avoid that room!!! ours was fine (214). We would certainly go back there again, we just love Puerto Pollensa!!"

The Good and The Bad
"We have just returned from a 1 week stay at this hotel. We had previously stayed here 5 years ago and had enjoyed our time. It is sold as a small and friendly hotel with a traditional Spanish feel. It certainly meets this, however the biggest let down for us was without doubt the rooms, which have gone down hill badly. We had requested a high floor room, the hotel only has 4 levels, but on our arrival we were given a room on the 1st floor with a view of the building work to the side of the hotel. We hadn't been informed about any building work taking place, so we were not that impressed. We didn't bother unpacking and went straight back to the reception to ask about being moved to another room. In fairness to the reception, they did move us with no problem to the 4th floor and the seaview room we had paid for. Upon going into our new room, we were again very disappointed. The room was very small, needed cleaning, refurbishing and had a horrible smell of sewerage. We immediately went back down to reception to complain. They did send a not very happy housekeeper who couldn't understand what the problem was to clean the room for us. The smell was explained by reception that it was to do with the hot weather, we later found out that it wasn't coming from our room, but from the roof of the hotel and if the wind was blowing in the wrong direction, that was the smell that greeted you. The bathroom in particular had mould stains and if you tried to open the window to allow ventilation you were greeted with pipes. We were still not particularly happy with the room, but concluded we weren't going to spend much time in it, so would put up with it. On the positive side we had amazing views over the bay, so whenever we did go back to our room, we sat out on the balcony. The rest of the hotel is very nice. The public areas are well maintained, clean and comfortably furnished. They really could do with paying the same attention to the bedrooms. The food which was buffet style was nice, with a good variety and very pleasant waiting staff. The hotel is situated across a road from the beach and is about a 20 min stroll into the main town area. Puerto Pollensa is a lovely town which provides a good holiday resort for couples and families. It is very safe, clean and has plenty of good resturants and bars. We would certainly go back, but will not be staying at the Hotel Pollentia again. We think we will try one of the lovely apartments or villas in this beautiful part of Majorca."
