"This hotel should be 5 stars! Its absolutely beautiful. The whole place is spotlessly clean and the rooms smell brand new! We were given champagne and cookies on arrival and reception were friendly and helpful telling us all we needed to know whilst we checked in. The rooms are modern and spacious and have everything you could possibly need! The maids kept them clean and there was no need for a safe we left all sorts out and had no issues. The balconys are big and perfect for evening drinks, we were lucky that ours overlooked the pool area. There is a supermarket on site for bits like water and snacks or inflatables for the pool - and any extra alcohol for your room ;). The pool is lovely, a bit cold but refreshing in the heat! The restaurant has an amazing selection of food, we particularly enjoyed breakfast you really are spoilt for choice, and again very clean staff very helpful and friendly. The pool bar serves all sorts of lovely drinks and cocktails most of the day which was fab and the snack bar served burgers/hot dogs/chips/wraps/salad - great for by the pool! As a couple we didnt really stick around in the evenings as it was mostly aimed at kids but there was a real buzz on the nights that we did. The walk along pine walk into town is stunning and takes around 15-20 mins slow walk i would really recommend this. The best part of our holiday were the staff, in particular the animation team. Every single one of them were just so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had the best holiday. We wish we could have stayed longer!!!"

we had a great time there
"We have just returned from a week at The Playa Mar and We can say that we had a good time. We went on a self catering basis, but did actually have breakfast ther most mornings. There was a good choice of foods from cereals to cooked breakfast to cakes and also fruits.
We didn't eat there in the evenings as preferred to walk down to the centre of the resort to try out local restaurants or as we had a car for most of the week we went further afield to eat. You can get food at lunchtime from the pool bar but this stops serving food at 3pm which is a bit of a pain if you have been out and about and just want a snack when you return. The rooms are slightly small when you have two adults and two teenagers but we didn't spend much time in the rooms anyway, plenty of storage though and the main bedroom isn't too bad a size. I did like that there was a patio door both from the bedroom and the lounge. Aircon was excellent too when you kept these doors shut.
Yes there is a major sunbed problem, but there seems to be in most hotels at this time of the year. There was the threat about not putting towels down too early, but it never happened and on waking the next morning most of the beds were gone again already. The best time to get a bed was about 3-4pm when the hardcore sunworshippers had left. The pool was also quieter then too and you cpuld actually swim in the pool.
The entertainment was good what we saw of it, but were out most evenings. It is quiet noisey however especially if you have a poolview room and it usually finished at 11-11.30pm.
Ryan and Chloe were excellent at trying to get everyone to join in. Didn't really meet any of the other entertainers as my kids too old for the kids clubs.
The resort is nice about a 15min walk from the hotel along a poorly lit cobbled pathway and might be too far if you have little children walking with you especially during the day in the sun. The hotel will book you taxis if you want, I do not know how much they charge as we didn't use them.
There internet facilities which my son made good use of, ther are two computers in the main lobby.
All in all We had a good holiday anf I would recommend this hotel.
The one thing I would say is that the hotel could do with a bigger supermarket, four people in it and it was full!!!!!! Ther are other local ones about though."

Not As Bad As Some Of These Reviews !
"Have just returned from one week at this hotel. Our party consisted of myself, five children and two other other adults.
After reading some of these reviews before i went i was really not sure what to expect, but must say we had a great time.
We had no problems whatsoever with our rooms, and the maid cleaned 5 out of the 7 days, bringing fresh towels and bedding.
We ate half board, and although not all dishes were to my liking with a vast selection on offer every day, there was always something you could find to eat.
The children especially enjoyed the childrens buffet, which always had things like pizza, sausages, nuggets etc. Along with lots of puddings and tonnes of sweets !!!
The sunbed issue was a downer on the holiday, and as has been said here time and time again, you cannot get a sunbed unless you get up at some ungodly hour! On talking to a group on the pool edge it transpired that they took it in turns to set their clock at 5.30 to go out and reserve the line of beds !! But to be honest if i wanted to sunbathe i went to the beach, which is only a couple of minutes walk out the front of the hotel, and when used the pool just used a chair from the bar area to put our towels on.
The entertainment was not always brilliant, although i pesonally thought the jackson five were good! Also the Kenyan Boys were brilliant. (at end of day its all free)
The reps themselves were a mixed bunch. No-one could fault Chloe or Ryan on their enthusiasm at entertaining! But as for the rest !?!?!?!??!?!?!!? But at the end of the day you can take or leave the entertainment. I personally did not want to spend all day joining in with quizzes, games etc!
Overall I was happy with this holiday and would visit the Playa Mar again. If you do go book to see Pirates Show - was definately highlight of the holiday.
To conclude all I would say is - if you want the cuisine and service of a 5 star hotel - then book one ! Dont book a four star one and expect more !"

"My family and I have just spent the last two weeks at the Playa Mar.
It is the third time we have been to Puerto Pollensa but the first time at this hotel. Overall the hotel was very good. The apartment was pretty much the same as most others that we have stayed in as far as size and facilities. The maids came in to change the towels and clean the room pretty much daily, I think there were only two days that were missed. The bedding was also changed three or four times during our stay.
The only food we ate at the hotel were baguettes and chips for a mid-day snack which were fine. We didn't use the restaurant in the evening as we preferred to take the pine walk to the local restaurants and cafes.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the pools were a good size and kept clean. There were only two things that I would change, although they didn't spoil the holiday, they would prevent me from returning to the Playa Mar. Firstly, me and my son had to set the alarm and get up at stupid o'clock to reserve sunbeds for the family, although the hotel policy didn't allow this, if you left it any later than 07:00, you would miss out. People would reserve beds before seven, but not turn up to use them until eleven or twelve o'clock and the hotel did nothing to deter it. Secondly, the evening entertainment was way too loud, (although obviously this is a personal preference.) The entertainment is performed on the outside stage and goes on until 11pm, if you enjoy it it's fine, but if you want to relax on your balcony you can forget it. Like I said though, that is just a personal thing and overall we had a good holiday at a nice, clean, friendly hotel.
Oh one last thing, should the "Jackson Five" be performing whilst you are there, try very hard to miss them, unless you want a good laugh, they were truly shocking and when "Michael" speaks between songs, he sounds more like Mickey Mouse, dreadful!"

"Majorca - excellent. Puerto Pollenca - Superb. Playa Mar - ???.
Arrived tired, decided on an evening meal @ 12 euros each - what a waste - food was terrible. Tasteless same old buffet. Tough beef, cold chicken etc. 1st & last at the hotel.
Room was dirty on arrival and only half cleaned after complaining. Cleaned with a dirty mop mostly so that room smelt worse, after we had spent time cleaning it, once maid had been,
The Pool - Could you get near it? - No. For accommodation for 300+ people there are only about 100 sunbeds and little room for any more. You need to be an early riser to claim one and once claimed please do as others did. This appears to mean that at least one person spends their holiday sleeping on one whilst reserving others for their family.
At 07:00 I looked around the pool on day 2 and could find no sun beds without towels or people on them.
So for the indoor pool i headed. Both myself and my wife headed here to escape the clutter around the outside pool. No under 18s without adult supervision it said. Ask management to use the pool it said. No diving or bombing it said. Ensure your are completely dry before exiting room to ensure no water on marble floors causes accidents by slippage. So what happens. We are all alone. Excellent! We get in. Nice! One 7 year old child runs down the stairs and jumps in alone. This is done several times before he runs back up the marble stairs soaking wet in just his trunks. Excellent policing of the hotels own policy i thought.
So to other entertainment. There were 2 pool tables of usual quality. Sloping to one corner so that most shots ensure a pot.
To the table tennis table. 2 euros per hour. Not a problem. Cheap enough. We pay and spend ages waiting for the table as it appears that the on site supermarket sells table tennis sets at 4.95 euros and nobody else really pays for the use of it. Again a lack of policing and i would suggest a loss of revenue for the hotel.
So to the Bar we go. A nice long bar of at least 30 feet indoors, but you have to queue to one 4 foot side of it at night out to the patio area for at least 10 minutes a time whilst waiters take orders from the side taking drinks to tabled people. My advice take a table and order it may be quicker.
The pool bar. The snacks looked excellent. Although please be patient if you only wish a drink as on one occassion while i saw 5 people behind the bar only one was serving drinks to the clietelle between food.
The evening entertainment - Again like the pool if you could sit close enough and weren't concerned with quality you might enjoy it. Several "Tribute Acts" graced the stage. However, these were mainly nobodies who may have once sounded like the person they paid tribute to, however seemed more interested in other songs to show how "good" they were than their own tribute performances. Extremely lacklustre.!!!!! The Beatles sounded Russian I think and nothing like the Beatles. The Jackson Five gave up the bad impersonation and went into Michael Jackson songs very badly to attempt to make up for it. Another 10 minute wait at the bar then to drown yoru sorrows.
The Entertainment team. (Where??) I saw one or two pass me but an extremely lethargic effort. It seemed they attempted to entertain people when they could be bothered as opposed to when the paying clients wished it. It seems to consist of occasional quizzes ( repeated ) water polo where males competed to drown as many of the opposition as possible.
The busiest event was "Killer Pool" a great game i thought! That was until i found out that one of the staff "DAZ" can only get any interest because all potential players have to place one euro each into a kitty and then its "winner takes all"
the amount of noise around the complex is unbearable until 23:00 or later. Kids are allowed to run around the pool and corridor areas making as much noise as they wish, which makes for a scarce chance of peace in your room either.
A complete waste of the £2,500.00 i paid for a holiday.
For those who manage to make it this far some plus points for the area. ___
The Pines Cafe - Superb meals and not far from the complex.
The walk along the pine walk. 20 minutes to the main restaurant areas is great.
The flight home - FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

playa mar review
"We have just returned from Playa mar, this is a great place for families, the hotel is clean and has a lot to offer. As this is a Thompson families hotel it only catered for the British. The location is great and we loved the 20 minute stroll down the pine walk to the centre where there are a good selction of restaurants. The only negative about the whole holiday was the fact you needed to get up a 6am in the dark to get a sunbed, god help us if the Germans had been there. The hotel had a do not reserve policy, its only a shame it did not apply it."

We want to stay here forever
"This is what our 9yr old twins said on our last morning! We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks at the Playa Mar. The room was great, a real treat to have air con. The staff were friendly & the Thomson Reps were excellent. The food was fine, the entertainment absorbing & the location brilliant. All in all a memorable holiday - I'm sure we will be coming back!"

Sorry to Go Home
"Having stayed in several resorts in Majorca, I can honestly say that Puerto Pollensa and the hotel Playa Mar is by far the best. The hotel was excellent as was the food and reps. My youngest thoroughly enjoyed Kids Club "Tribe". It was a place you could relax and take it easy whilst still keeping kids entertained (10 and 14). Whilst it is a little way out of the centre, the walk along the "Pine Walk" was lovely in the evening. The entertainment was great fun at the hotel, both professional acts and the reps were well presented. Hats off to all the reps, where they found the energy, the fun started in the morning and went on through all day and then into evening. I would definitely recommend the Playa Mar and am already looking at booking again for next year."

Great Family Holiday
"Just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. The hotel is great and is located at the top end of Pine Walk. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The Thomson reps and entertainment staff were fantastic. Our children enjoyed the Kid's Clubs: Tots, Team and the drop in. The entertainment in the evening was great, although it did go on quite late and we could still hear it from our apartment block no. 1, the children did go to sleep though! So it didn't seem to matter - they were tired from the activities in the day!
Although we did not have half board included we decided to pay for 7 days food: breakfast and dinner. This worked out good value. We ate in the restaurant for 1 week and ate outside the hotel the second week and found some fantastic bars/restaurants in the town (Tango, Pizzeria Eolo, Hotel Bahia -Pine Walk).
The only gripe with this hotel is the lack of umbrellas around the pool and the uncomfortable sunbeds. Plus the fact that you had to get up early to reserve your sunbeds - even though the Thomson Reps (Ryan) repeatedly asked at about 10.00 am every morning not to do this.
Overall, we had a great time here, and as this is our second Thomson Superfamily holiday (First was at the Hotel Bonaire, Cala Bona in 2005 which is superb) we would definately return again and recommend it to others with children."

Lovely hotel and resort - great for families with children
"If you have young children this is ideal. We have stayed 3 times and have already booked for next year and Iâm the person who said they would never go to the same place twice. The hotel entertainment and kids clubs are great and the reps extremely friendly and lovely to the kids. The hotel is around 20 mins from the centre of Puerto Pollensa but the walk along the promenade (pine walk area) is lovely with great restaurants. Little Italy is particularly good with authentic food and breathtaking views along the bay - the kids can play on the beach when they have finished as it is less than 5 metres away - leaving you to relax and enjoy the excellent food with peace of mind as the sea is very shallow and extremely clean. The square in town has a great atmosphere with a dozen or so lovely places to eat. Pollensa doesn't know the meaning of the word "scally" they don't exist - the resort is full of older couples and families. If youâre looking for English pubs, Corrie re runs and wild nights go to Alcudia and leave this gem of a place to people who want more than Blackpool in the sun."

Great Holiday - Great Value for Money
"Well, we booked a last minute family holiday deal with Thomson, knowing that one possible hotel was the Playa Mar, and after having read some of the comments on this website we were hoping that we would get one of the other 2 options available! When we were allocated the Playa Mar at the airport I was more than a little nervous, but in actual fact the hotel and the holiday turned out to be much better than we could have hoped for.
This was our second holiday and like I say booked last minute the total cost for 2 adults and 1 child was under £650 which I consider to be a bargain basement price. When we arrived things looked bleak - no cot for our 2 year old, but the staff quickly resolved this even though it was 11:45pm. After this there were absolutely no problems, no issues with sunbeds (always spare ones by the pool), the noise was not bad and ened on the dot at 11:oopm. As for the location, the hotel is out on the edge of town, but the walk along the pine walk became a feature of our evenings and we enjoyed it. It's particularly lovely when the sun is setting over the bay.
The military camp next door is no problem either, it's not a training ground for the SAS but a base for the Spanish air force's sea planes, which they use for fighting mountain fires. Never having seen a sea plane land before the sight was quite something.
We did hire a car for the week so getting to the other side of the town and the best beach was no problem. But even if you do not hire a car the local buses run along the road next to the hotel and a taxi into town is only a few euros if your legs really can't manage the walk.
We went self catering and didn't eat at the hotel other than breakfast which was superb - great choice, so other than that we can't comment on the quality of the food.
As for eating out the restaurants in town are great and Tangos (just off the square) does a fab 3 course fixed menu for 15 euros.
We had our 2year old with us and have never previously experienced 'family entertainment time' but our son really loved it especially Thomson the Dog ( some poor person in a giant dog suit), our only complaint is that the dog wasn't there every night, which left us with a very disappointed tot. On the subject of children remember this is a family orientated hotel and if you don't like being splashed or hearing children enjoying themselves please pick another hotel as you may not like the atmosphere.
On the whole we would probably return again."

"Transfer time is an nightmare . took 1 hour 15mins. and that was with only 1 drop off before our hotel. we were offered drink and a biscuit on arrival. was a problem with key card not working but was sorted by reception after 2 attempts. because of this arrived at the restaurant late (9.10) and had cold chips. room was nice and clean it is a good sized balcony. kitchen area small but usable. hotel and pool area were lovely and clean. entertainment okay for children. but Thomson entertainment team need to remember when it comes to adult entertainment. please remember we are adults and don't talk at us over the mike like we are children. because we think we did not go to welcome meeting not 1 member of the Thomson spoke to us. the bar staff seemed to ignore those on an evening who were all inclusive unless they got a tip.food was very bland on occasions but edible. W would go back again."
