"We got back from Palma three days ago after spending a week at the Gran Melia Victoria. It didn't fail to impress... The staff are very friendly and efficient. The room we had (room 516) was large, very well appointed (the electronic curtains are novel) and luxurious. I particualrly liked the way the room had its own lobby (so you couldn't hear the lifts or corridor outside at all) and that the marble bathroom was split into two with sliding frosted glass doors. Other nice little touches were the night time chocolates, bowl of fruit on arrival and complimentary sun cream in the bathroom. I specifically asked for a room upgrade to a full sea and cathedrale view, which was certainly worth the money. A high floor room also helps noise wise. There are a few clubs outside and saturday night was the busiest it got. To be honest the windows were well sound proofed and we were barely disturbed. Breakfast was varied and tasty. Tip: don't be afraid to ask for espresso coffee, toast or fried eggs! The outdoor pool was pretty big and there were plenty of comfy loungers. Only problem with sunbathing was the road noise, but you got used to that (either that or listen to music). Would i stay there again - most definately. I am very hard to please, but the Gran Melia Victoria managed to!"

First Class Hotel
"A really great experience. The bedrooms are very good well maintained and serviced as I would expect from Gran Melia hotels. The varying restaurants give ample choice of menu. You are expected to dress formally in one of them but the other two are happy with smart casual. No need for tie in that heat!! The staff were excellent for lthe attention to detail and the breakfast buffet was well subsidised with any request for english breakfast as an example. There is a disco below and next door running from 12 mn to 6 am but we heard not a sound from either. Happy to return at any time."

"What a fabulous hotel! Mac & Lily took a romantic break there in June 2006 and despite the unusually dull weather, had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the upgraded room we were given was one of the largest I have every stayed in. Our complimentary bottle of sherry and cookies went down a treat, and our cute balcony a great place to contemplate life and what it has to offer! The pool area is beautifully kept and the staff around this area very attentive. We only ate in the hotel the first morning (late morning) however there was enough choice to have breakfast lunch and dinner all at once. Would highly recommend this hotel, and would not hesitate to return"

Very Grand and Ostentacious
"We stayed at the Gran Melia Victoria for 3 nights over the Easter Weekend, the hotel is very "Grand" and "oldie worldy", majority of clientelle 55yrs+. The hotel is great if you are looking for a totally relaxing atmosphere, the service of all staff was impeccable, as you would expect from a 5 star property. The hotel is in need of some cosmetic surgery, some carpets worn and bedroom furnishing outdated. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, superb selection of hot and cold choices, they will also cook anything you request if its not on the buffet. We stayed in a room on the top floor with Full Harbour & Catheral View, i would definitely recommend that you pay the extra for the superb view that these rooms give, see my photos!! We had room 612, the only negative thing about its position is that it is almost at the corner of the building next to Titos Nightclub so a night you can hear a little of the disco music, not too much though because the double glazing keeps out most of the noise, try and get rooms 614, 616 or 618, they are a little further away from the corner of the hotel and hence less chance of noise disturbance. If you are looking for a totally Grand Hotel with a totally relaxing atomsophere this is the place for you, next we are in Palma we will probably stay next door at the more modern and younger Melia Palas Atenea which is 4 stars. Finally, if you like top restaurants, you must try the one michelin star "Koldo Royo" which is about a 15 minute walk along the promenade towards the Cathedral, or take a 15 minute taxi ride to Puerto Portals and try the two michelin star restaurant Tristan, truly amazing... both restaurants must be booked in advance obviously. In the old town of Palma you must find Bar Abaco, words cannot explain the splendours of this Gothic style establishment, go on a Friday night when at midnight they drop petals from the roof, astounding, but cocktail drinks are not cheap at 15 euros a throw!!"

Excellent Hotel shame about the pool
"We stayed in this very grand hotel in February the hotel was very very quiet so much so we thought we were the only ones staying there until breakfast we a few other guests appeared. The rooms were very nice we chose a high floor because we had been warned there could be noise from the disco below, the disco went on till 4am. We had a lovely stay only one thing spoilt it and that was the outside pool was closed and roped off so there was now where to sit and relax when on the first day we arrived the temperature reached 75 degrees!!! be warned it stays shut until June"

"Just returned from a 4 day break in Palma. This hotel was outstanding from start to finish. Staff were brilliant could not do enough for you. Reception and porters were very keen to help. Room was large with balcony overlooking port and cathedral - outstanding views. We took a high floor room - 5th floor overlooking port and were not disappointed. We are very picky about which hotels we stay in but this one ticked all boxes. Did not eat in restaurant in hotel other than for breakfast (which again was superb) as seemed needed to be dressed up - suit and tie for gents ( I have enough of that at work !!) but smart casual was order of the day otherwise inc jeans but no one in scruffy jeans. If in doubt dont be - book it now and ask for that high floor room overlooking port - magical."

nice hotel, great views
"We stayed for 2 noghts at the Melia Victoria and were overall very happy. We paid for a sea view room and pre requested a room on a high floor, and sure enough this was honoured. Although we couldn't check in when we arrived at 11am, this was not a problem - Palma is a great city and a walk into ntown and back easily took us through lunch. Onarriving back we were pleased to be given a room on Floor 6 - room 612 - the view over Palma harbour is SPECTACULAR from this room. Overall, very comfortable - room was a good size, well decorated in a grand style (not minimal chic!) - nice touches such as a pillow menu, CD system and efficient aircon. Very nice bathroom. On the downside, it took 2 calls to get a second bathrobe, and the pay movie system did not work. But that view....... mesmerising! Watching the sun set and the moon rise over the harbour and cathedral made the high room rate worth the money. The Terrazo restaurant was good - competent modern European cuisine and a good wine list, and again... that view, but the terrazo bar, although a pleasant place to sit, the service was appaling - it took 20 minutes to be served and a further 15 to actually get our drinks, and it was not busy. The â¬10 per person charge for the sauna is unjustified and highly surprising for a 5* hotel, and the pool being closed at 5pm can only be due to a lack of staff, and at â¬230 per night, this is not acceptable. Having stayed in a few truly 5* places, and many Four Seasons, this does not match in any way, but the view..... !"

"My wife and i stayed in this hotel last week, and we have only superlatives to say about this place. It's conveniently located, nice helpful staff and the rooms and beds are big. The bed was very confortable. The curtains are automatic and you can operate it using the console. The toilet and bath was also big, with a separate tub from the shower area. We were fortunate enough to get a room with seaview on the 6th floor (which is the top floor) and the views were spectacular. We could have stayed here all week. Unfortunately we have to go back home. The buffet breakfast was also good, with many choices and good quality selection. You can also avail of the welcome drink in the lobby (wine or orange juice). I consider it as a grand hotel with first class amenities. They also have a swimming pool and health club. There is an exit that leads to the street facing the marina where all the boats are parked. For ice cream lovers there is also a Haagen Dazs store right in that exit, so you can't miss the hotel. Definitely plan to go back!"

"We have just returned from a 3 night trip to the Gran Melia, Palma. Over all the hotel is lovely, great location etc, but we felt it was well over due for refurbishment. The staff were lovely and they did everything they could to make our stay as pleasent as possible. It was the actual building that wasn't up to scratch. The hotel smelt damp and on arrival to our room the bathroom/toilet area smelt of urine. The pool area was nice but again needed a good tidy up. Over all we had a lovely time but i would not class this hotel as a 5 * plus in which it is said to be."
