Fab. View

Reviewed Mon 5th of November 2012

"2 April 2006. Just returned. Lovely hotel, friendly and efficient staff, spotlessly clean. MAKE SURE YOU GET A FRONT SEA VIEW WHEN BOOKING which is right across the bay of Palma - ab. fab. Good buffet breakfast with lots of choice. Would definitely return. About 45mins walk along the front to central Palma - No. 3 bus runs from 5 mins walk away and very cheap or taxis plentiful about £4 each way."

Superb break

Reviewed Thu 1st of November 2012

"Had a lovely few days here from 28th February. Breakfast was superb and set us up for the day. Spotlessly clean and friendly staff. 20 euro deposit for pool towels a bit steep but totally refundable.Number 1 bus very convenient. Bit of a walk up the hill but not too bad. Mondo Cane restaurant straight down the hill on the right was excellent in same road as hotel. Shut sundays I think. Hotel evening meals good too."

Great hotel, great staff and excellent food

Reviewed Mon 10th of December 2012

"Stayed at Catalonia Majorica for long weekend break. Our room overlooked the port and was a beautiful sight to wake up to each morning. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
The only problem is it is up a fairly steep hill so you do need to be able bodied. Would certainly return."

Friendly hotel

Reviewed Mon 29th of October 2012

"Just returned from a short stay at the Hotel Catalonia Majorica. Nice, clean, friendly hotel with helpful staff. Spacious room with great view overlooking Palma Harbour. Quite a way from the main shops and Cathedral but buses are frequent and very cheap and taxis can be called from the reception and arrive very quickly! All in all, very pleasant."

A great hotel great views and food

Reviewed Mon 5th of November 2012

"We stayed here for a 4 night break and had a great time. The hotel is clean, the staff very friendly and whoever complained about the dining room must have been at a different hotel. The food at breakfast was multi choice but I would recomend the fresh made omelets with different fillings made for you by the chef. The dinner was excellent value and again was multi choice with a good selection of salads and hot dishs, again use the chef for a choice of steak, pork, fish and pasta meals. The wine prices in the dining room are very good value, the bar prices are not over the top either. The view from the outside area over the bay of Palma was great.
Get a No 1 bus from the airport and ask for Porto Pi, 1.75 cents,at Porto Pi flag a taxi down and ask for the hotel and its another 3 euros. The hill was the only problem. To get into Palma turn left out of the hotel and go about 150 metres down the hill, there are a set of steps to the left and go down to the road, go over the other side and get the No 3 bus 1.40cents into Palma, for the train to Soller go to the Place de Espana, get off the bus go over the road and you are at the train station, 14 euros return.
There is a large shopping centre at Porto Pi with a good selection of shops and a large Carafore supermarket for duty free etc.
Overall we enjoyed a great stay at the hotel and would definatly go back again."

Avoid like the Plague

Reviewed Sat 27th of October 2012

"We stayed during August 2005 and although the hotel was clean and modern it was small and lifeless, better suited as a business hotel. We found the staff efficient, but only friendly if you make the running. The rooms were adequate, but on the small side, although the views are great and I could have spent all day watching the cruise liners etc coming in and out of the harbour directly in front of the hotel. There was no warning in our brochure (Thomson City Breaks) that the hotel was situated at the top of an extremely long, steep hill which is arduous even for the young and fit. This means a car is essential, but parking is impossible as the hotel does not have a car park and the surrounding streets are crowded with vehicles. The area around the hotel is not very pleasant; a bit run down and with lots of dogs (apparently) so watch your step! Building work next to the hotel is noisy and dusty - makes using the pool unpleasant. So, if you are young fit and have a car or can afford a taxi to go and buy a bottle of water this is for you. If not avoid it like the plague."

It's got real character

Reviewed Mon 10th of December 2012

"This hotel really does have something that many others don't - and that's maybe because it's small. I'm a BBC journalist, so am used to staying away, but the majorica certainly has an undeniable charm. It's clean. The views are certainly some of the best you could get anywhere in the world. Some of the staff are spanish and grumpy, some are spanish and friendly. They certainly don't fit the mold...put it this way - we've had loads of free drinks when we've stayed, and not because they liked us! It's a walk to palma, so if you're lazy - then stay nearer the city. I like looking at the king's yacht in the harbour in front of the hotel. I loved the walk to palma too. It's not that far and there's plenty to look at along the way. I'd recommend people try this place. It's certinaly got plenty of great things about it, though I admit it may not be to everyone's tastes"

Great view...terrible for parking.

Reviewed Thu 1st of November 2012

"Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights mid October. The sea views from the bedrooms are fantastic. Although, the balcony door did not lock and our room was very small.
The drinks at the bar are reasonable priced and they have a good selection. If you like a continental breakfast they have plenty of choice. I wouldn't recommend the cooked breakfast because it was always cold and soggy.
We hired a car from the airport and found the hotel by spotting it from the main road and guessing our way up the hill. It is fair to say that we stumbled accross it. It is not the easiest place to find. Parking was a nightmare too. They do not have any allocated parking so so must park wherever you can find. A couple of times we had to park 2 streets away, but it was only a short walk so we were not too fussed.
We mainly took taxi's on our nights out into Palma. They are very reasonable, around 5 euros. There are some fantastic bars and restaurants in Palma, but you will pay more to eat and drink on the front.
There was not much to say about the indoor pool, we took our bathers but didn't use them. The pool is very small.
All in all, a good hotel with friendly staff. Would recommend for a short break on a B&B basis."

A little bit of luxury and amazing view

Reviewed Mon 24th of December 2012

"Stayed here towards the end of September with a girlfriend for a chill out week. Room was very spacious and the bathroom allowed for the clutter of 2 girls and still looked tidy. (We did get cold water for 1st day but a quick word with reception soon had it sorted - they seem to know that there is a problem from time to time).

The view from the room was amazing - ask for a high floor for the best views. Straight across the bay to the Catedral La Seu. Plus you get to watch the cruise ships drifting in and out.

Breakfast - was almost a feast - masses of choice.

The staff (especially Carlos and Xavi) have excellent suggestions for nights out to suit the type of thing you want to do, who were brilliant.

The best beach we found was Illejetas - easy to reach on the bus costing just 1.10 euro (fixed rate). Lovely beach bar (spotless and make great Sangria). Nearly forgot to say - get a massage on the beach - pretty perfect !!!

Taxis are pretty cheap and necessary this hotel is up the hill overlooking the marina, and a pretty long walk if you wanted to go to the Old Town (great nights out with beautiful restaurants) . On the Paseo Maritim if you like Indian food though try Baiaskia - and visit the loos (ladies are the only ones I can tell you about!!) if only to look at their choice of pictures.

This hotel just has a great location and would not hesitate to recommend it."

As expected

Reviewed Mon 24th of December 2012

"I had read all the reviews before booking , so had a good idea of what to expect. My wife, daughter (1.5yrs) and I spent 5 nights here.

The hotel is clean with friendly, engaging and helpful staff. We went half board which is much easier with young children. The evening buffet was fine, healthy and supported by a reasonably priced wine menu. In fact I felt the prices for most of the goods/services were fair.

The hotel is on a steep slope (no surprises as that's what the other reviews had told me) with great views out across the bay. The bar area and outside seating is pleasant. The pool is a reasonable size and never felt overcrowded.

There is large shopping centre close by which is great for clothes and food, especially if you become bored with the hotel buffet. The old town is about 10mins by Taxi.

We also hired a car. I used carjet.com as they tend to have pretty good all inclusive prices.

In summay, a sensibly priced hotel providing a good service."
