10 Traveller reviews from Holiday Watchdog
"Agree with everythin the previous reviewer said, although didn't find staff particularly friendly. The views from this hotel are fabulous, but apart from that rather disappointing. Although renovated in recent years it is clearly an old hotel that suffers from sewage problems - at certain times of the day the smell outside out room was foul! Also the pathways around the hotel are not well maintained, although the grass and plants get plenty of attention. The rooms are large but no basics such as tea/coffee making facilities and iron/ironing board. Beds fairly comfortable and air-con efficient. Showers fantastic pressure! The website is completely misleading as the very large pool shown is in fact fairly small and is the 'kids' pool. The other 'adult' pool is also fairly small. Both pools suffer from lack of space around them and a complete lack of sunbeds for the number of guests the hotel can hold. Most sunbeds 'reserved' by 9am - shouldn't be allowed as so few to go around anyway! Breakfast was hectic, queuing some days to get a table. We only ended up going 3 times as couldn't be doing with people rushing everywhere. Plenty of choice but things like juices horrible and warm. If you like english breakfast tea, take you own tea bags. We spent our first week on another part of the island in a 5* and I have to say the difference was vast - probably worth mentioning the drinks here were more expensive than in the 5*! Paguera is nice, with large, sandy beaches and crystal clear sea. Plenty of restaurants, most with pretty similar menus, but reasonable quality of food and reasonably priced. 'La Hacienda' is a must - more expensive but great food. Get a car, get away from the hotel and explore this beautiful part of the island!"

Beautiful grounds but disappointing in other respects
"We live and work in Palma and decided to have a nice relaxing break at Hotel Bluebay Galatzo for the weekend as I am eight months pregnant. We read their website and it looked like they had great facilities in beautiful environment. The hotel has amazing views as it is situated on the top of a hill where you can see across the mountains and the sea. The grounds and outdoor pools are beautiful and there is a nice pool bar where you can order drinks and snacks during the day. The staff are friendly and could speak Spanish, English and German. The breakfast is included with the room and you are given a very good choice from a buffet. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by our room as it had a damp problem and smelt really bad. The fridge was broken so the drinks weren't cold and the pay for films were not working on our TV. Guests should not be paying for and staying in rooms unless they are in good condition! The jacuzzi, steam room and one of the saunas were out of order and the best restaurant advertised on their website was closed. This only left us with the choice of having food from the buffet each night, which was great for breakfast, but not the standard of food we would like for dinner from a 4 star hotel. Whilst walking around the hotel we also noticed that the carpets were dirty, there was general maintenance that needed to be done to broken tiles and lights, etc, and the lifts needed updating as they were old and small. We were attracted to the hotel due to the excellent facilities advertised on the website, but due to our experiences we did not have as good a time as we had hoped. It was a shame as it cost quite a lot of money and was meant to be a special weekend for us."

Excellent stay - good value for money
"Stayed there for five nights, and really appreciated the hotel. Large and good rooms, good food (we only had breakfast), and all in all excellent value for money. Make sure you get a room with views towards the Med. Family rooms are highly recommendable. Due to location, we would recommend you to rent a car for flexibility."

Cutting corners at the Galatzo
"This was the fourth time we stayed at this hotel - the first being 24 years ago in 1986 when it was the Club Galatzo (I think it was part of the Grupotel group then) . It has changed management and been updated to reflect modern styles since the last time we visited in the early 1990's The setting is stunning, the views beautiful the gardens and pool areas perfectly maintained to a very high standard .but somewhere along the way its lost some of the old charm it had back in the days when the mainly German clientel dressed for dinner and the wonderful food was served by waiters. Our room this time was in one of what the hotel calls ''villas ' but basically are rooms in small buildings in the hotel grounds. Lovely big bathrooms and an adequate bedroom with a terrace ,however the bed was rock hard to sleep on so I cant say sleep quality was very good and the air conditioning was centrally controled and not very efficient for temperatures up in the 90's. We were half board and its here that the corners were being cut there appeared to be some form of portion control going on as far as the puddings were concerned not much variety, mainly mouse based in small glasses !!!! Small bite sized cakes and one tart or flan occasionaly ice cream . The main courses were imaginative and there were no chips the whole time we were there but there was a distinct lack of variety in the food compared to other hotels in the same class we have been to..Another aspect that was dissapointing was that the 'Vista de Ray' resteraunt was closed and the bar in that part of the hotel which is really lovely not open in the evenings EXCEPT one day when the Thomas Cook rep was being shown around and all the poolside seating was put out to make it look as if was always kept that way !! The staff were all lovely EXCEPT for one small dark Spanish girl at the reception who was equally miserable ,rude and abrupt to everyone I didnt get her name unfortunately .The mini bus to Paquera only takes about 7 people at a time max and had to make return journies to ensure everyone who wanted to go got picked up from the town . It ran on the hour at 11am 12am - and then stopped until 4pm and 5pm . I would like to make a particular mention of a young man called Michael who was working in the hotel in the dining room and serving at the bar he was so hard working and pleasant that he stood out amongst the others who were also good but they worked Michael really hard and he always had a smile for us . We had a wonderful relaxing break ,its a great hotel to stay in more couple orientated not really a hotel for families beacuse of its layout and position high above the beaches I would recommend it but next time I would stay on a B&B basis . Majorca is the most beautiful island we have ever been to and we have visited many over the years We never want to leave it and are always sad to come home but are now looking forward to our next holiday there . If you havnt been GO you wont be dissapointed !"

Excellent hotel with superb service
"The service was friendly and superb, the rooms were lovely and the view wonderful. Two pools, great food. What else can one ask for? The hotel had a shuttle service to the center of the town or to the beaches, but it really was a 10 minute walk to the main boulevard - so incredibly convenient whilst being just off the beaten track. Lovely spa too!"

Lovely, peaceful, excellent staff
"Have just returned from a fantastic short break with a friend at the Galatzo. We were looking for a few days of chill out and we certainly got it. Hotel is out of Peguera up a hill so there's no-one else around...taxi into Peguera was about 5 euros. From the moment we arrived we could not fault the staff...nothing was too much trouble and every single staff member we passed throughout the 4 days we were there said "Ola" or greeted us in some way. We were stayin on a b&b basis...room was a standard room and was spotless. Beds were extremely comfortable, bathroom was well laid out and the shower was really powerful. Breakfast...you name it, it was there! Cereal, amazing fresh fruit, yogurts, dried fruit, breads, cheeses, meats, fish, pastries, pancakes, cooked breakfast...eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato, omlette, even champagne if you wanted it. We ate at the hotel in the evenings too, both in the bar and restaurant and found all of the food to be excellent. Cocktails also went down a treat too :-) Pools and grounds were both beautifully maintained and never crowded. A mini-bus runs every hour from the hotel down to a lovely beach, which again was easy to get a sunbed even when arriving at 11:30am. The only downside to the hotel was that it was a bit out of the way at seemed to be geared to couples, but if you're after a relaxing, quiet break, then this is the place!"

Above The Crowd in Peguera
"Stayed in a Junior Suite in the Llevante building, sea view, top floor, queen bed. The place has four buildings to choose from, the Tower, the Hotel, the Llevante (all junior suites, but careful: the North side faces the green slope of the hill), plus 6 bungalows with 6 rooms each ... all except those mentioned above with marvellous (sea-) views. The sprawling property sits on-top a hill, overlooking Santa Ponca. Nicely grown in, you have greenery all around you. The pool is big enough and nicely located. Rooms are well maintained, modernist, though lacking some esprit and attention to detail (like lighting). Beds are averagish, not reaching the Marriott standard. Was formerly managed by Maritim. Well-off Mallorca clientele, no package-dealers. Fair enough value for money, if you book a bit in advance. You'll need a car to get around, or walk steep hills down and up for 15 min.+ to /from the Peguera Bulevar."

Beautiful and relaxing
"I have just returned home after a weeks holiday at the BlueBay Galatzo. All i can say is what a beautiful place, from the grounds to all the amenities ( Spa, Gym, inside pool, tennis and squash) I would rate this place first class. My partner a i decided to stay here as we are looking for a wedding venue for 2011 and i think we have found the place. Breath taking poolside areas and stunning views followed up by great food, nice rooms and very hard working staff. Looking forward to a wonderful stay next year."

"Good service is the key word for this hotel. I enjoyed our stay very much. Nice service in the bar and a management that was following up everything. The view over the bay was also nice"

"We stayed at the Maritim for three days short break and wished we had booked for longer. We really could not fault the place, the staff were very helpful, even though the marority of the other guests were German, they all spoke good English. We were allocated a small suite with a sea view, and the breakfast was excellent with great selection. The pool area was well tended with a life guard/pool attendant on duty. The hotel ran a regular shuttle service to the beach and Paguera itself is very family oriented with lots of good cafes and bars. We cant wait to visit again."
