wonderful peaceful retreat
" Stayed in the studios opposite the hotel the last week in June. Studio was very clean and bright. Had a lovely sea view. Great chicken done on the spit at the second cafe/bar to the left of the apartments. The owners are very friendly and make everyone feel welcome. Illetus is a little gem, return each year to the apartments, maybe twice this year. Find the hotel staff very helpful. Highly recommend the Roc hotel "

Grotty 2 star besit!!
"I have just returned home from a weeks stay in the Roc Illetas Playa. This was my first trip away with my one year old son so I thought I would treat ourselves to a four star stay in the above hotel. I read a few reviews and thought I would give it a go as everywhere has bad and good reviews now I wish I D LISTENED AS THEY ARE VERY TRUE! Upon arriving having been traveling since 3 am we were told that we were in a temporary room for tonight and then will move rooms tomorrow??? when I said no I am not happy I have a baby and its very difficult to unpack and repack - we are only here for a week I was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders and a "not possible". Apparently the 'timeshare' that we are renting out is not available until tomorrow. Timeshare??? we just booked a week holiday! When I asked to speak to the Manager the man replied I am the Manager I said no I want to speak to your Manager he replied he is not in so I asked him to write down his email address - the man wrote his own down. Did he not think I could read his name tag. When questioned the man eventually wrote down the Hotel Managers email address. Turns out the man on reception was just Head of Reception and extremely unhelpful! So we had to get on with it! We were placed in an old derelict building across the road from the hotel - when I say derelict I mean it. There was an old reception area, cracks in the glass doors, a bit of wood as a ramp for buggy access! Looked awful! When we got to our room we were horrified - 4 star??? more like a grotty 2 star bedsit! The room was dirty and absolutely tiny! Where was the 4 star I treated my family to??? The travel cot the hotel supplied was dirty, we had a great big door in the bathroom that never shut properly and when opened was full of concrete and pipes! There were jagged edges on the bath tiles, the bin was filthy, oven hobs rusty and stinking, fridge rusty and not clean properly, black mildew spots on the tiles and room was very outdated! The air con was a joke and the sea view I d paid for was some trees and I overlooked someones balcony with two grotty old mattresses - hardly the height of luxury I was expecting! We decided to get on with it so we had a look around. Word of advice - do not go if you have children or in a wheelchair. No access anywhere! when asked I just got the same shrug of shoulders! The pool area was at the bottom of a lot of stairs. There was a few lifts you could get on so you only went down about 10 which we had to manage. No equal opportunities in this hotel! Now onto the lovely pool area - Children's pool??? no a cornered off bit of the pool that is about as big as a bath! Which is dangerous as it starts off shallow then goes deeper at quite a drop! All in the shade too most of the day, so not very warm! We thought we would try a nearby beach - Illetas Beach - 30 steps plus - no lie! so don't bother if have a pushchair you just cant do it! Very steep! The area itself I found to be very run down, lots of empty shops and apartments. We found it hard to find somewhere decent to eat! There is two cafe places nearby which were standard. We often walked to find a bit more going on as its very quiet. I enjoy walking alongside the beach when I am on holiday but there is none of that here all roads! The bus service is excellent and we used this regularly. However it went to one extreme to the other. Illetas quiet and Palma city centre was just like a busy city which is not what you want when you go on holidays. I was after a beach holiday! Now onto my following day. We got a call at 10am to say can we leave our room by 12pm pack all our belongings come down the 4 flights of stairs, go across the road to the hotel and put all our stuff in the baggage room, then wait around until our actual room was clean. My reply was no way! I am not doing all that when we are literally moving 3 doors down. The lady who I was trying to speak to was not understanding me. I went onto say this isn't 4 star and she told me to contact my travel provider - this proves to me that they know its not 4 star! It was category advertised as 4 star and they are selling on the back of this. I asked the lady that I wanted to be put up in the hotel across the road and she said "no room" but I had already checked and there was. When questioned her she then replied "no kitchen" when questioned again she said there was and it would be 80 euros a night to upgrade??? not when I had just paid a lot of money for my 4 star accomodation! Then the lovely man I spoke to yesterday came on and was very rude! laughed when I asked about compensation. I had read that morning on here about other cases where guests and we met other guests that had got asked to move - some in a different hotel in Palma! So when I said this is something that you do alot of he just laughed and thought I was making a big song and dance as was only moving 3 doors down! Made no difference as still had to pack and unpack! I wasn't moving until my new room was ready and he accepted and put the phone down - very rude! Again I asked to speak to the Manager but surprise surprise he wasn't free and had no contact number! So we waited around and eventually our new room was free, we moved and was crossing our fingers it would be better - no chance. It was still dirty, shabby, tiny the only good thing was we did have sea view. Not the sea view you would expect to have after the extra money we paid - there was a tree and a hotel in the way but we could see the sea! So after 2 days of disruption we decided to settle in and try to enjoy our holiday as best as we could! We were very happy to come home! I would recommend the Western Waterpark and the bus service but the hotel definitely don't go if you have children or are in a wheelchair and be prepared to play moving rooms and get your rubber gloves on for the cleaning! "Just arrived home from a weeks stay, what can i say we had a fantastic holiday food was excellent with a great choice both for b/fast and at tea time.we took our 13 year old son with us,a bit quite for him but beach was lovely, and he loved the pools and the p.c's which cost 2 euro for 30 mins on the net.The bus to palma stops out side the hotel about every ten mins and costs 1.10 euro. well worth a visit.Staff all very friendly and helpfull, room cleaned every day. We made the mistake of reading reviews before we went and was left woundering what it would be like when we arrived and we had no problems. We would go again but without our teenager(too quite for him thats the only resson) The weather was really hot too, loads of sun cream needed. Not the best place if you find it had to get around lots of steps to beach very hilly.Illetas is not a cheap place so best to walk to local Spar and stock up on drinks!!"

"Fantastic!! Booked as a last minute deal and was worried with previous comments. Kept an open mind as everyone likes different things!! Nothing to worry about at all......the rooms are quite basic, but we only slept in them so no need for fancy furniture!!! Never a quiet moment here, always something going on-so not suitable for people without children or wanting peace&quiet!! We went self catering and ate out every night. The restaurants are approx 10-15minute walk from the hotel and so many to chose from. There is also an excellent pizzeria on site-highly recommended-best pizzas around!!! Entertainment goes quiet at night approx 11.30ish, so not really quiet if you want an early night!! Our children are 13&3 and both absolutely loved it...they didn't want to come home!! Only downfall is number of sunbeds....you need to get up very early to get one...so if you can't beat them..join them!! We would definitely return to the bouganvilla as it was excellent value for money. "

"Just got back from the most blissful holiday staying in Illetas at this hotel. Read the reviews, felt slightly apprehensive but was blown away! The resort is GORGEOUS! Beautiful beach, the clearest, shallowest warmest sea we've been to in a while and lovely surrounding scenery. Illetas has a few good restaurants and bars but is suited to a more relaxing holiday than a partyfilled one (Having said that Palma, Palmanova or Magaluf are only 10 min taxi rides away.) We were in the SC apartments over the road but found them quiet, clean and well-furnished. We still had a sea-view and full use of the hotel facilities which are great, good food and lovely pools but slightly dodgy entertainment!! The hotel bar and surrounding bars are expensive and we recommend stocking up at the local supermarket and taking picnics with you in the day as money does not go far in Spain anymore! Family-orientated - we think so. With a 2 year old in tow we had no problems. Getting around is easy with the very efficient bus system and I can honestly say we had a very stress-free time of it entertaining and feeding a toddler. Would (and have) recommended to anyone who wants a hot, sunny break somwhere beautiful thats only 2.5 hours away but doesn't want to break the bank. "

"no problems with the booking. setting fantastic. peaceful. food good. bfast buffet offered good selection. ate in restaurant twice in the evening again no complaints. bar servicable but expensive compared to other illetas resort hotels and bars. room clean and comfortable. beds good. bathroom good. staff all friendly and helpful. my only negative is this would not be classed as 4**** in britain-more like 3*** did visit other 4**** hotels in the resort but found them to be a little "stuffy" for our taste. illetas as a resort fantastic if you want to relax-this is no bright lights big city resort"

"Stayed in the Penthouse apartment overlooking the sea. Fantastic views from the large balcony. Snorkelling from the Hotels private jetty was great. A two minute walk from the rear of the hotel past some very upmarket restaurants brought us to a very nice beach. Over the last 5 years Illetas has become a very upmarket resort. The hotel has everything for an upmarket holiday, but I do agree it is not suitable for young children. Palma Nova and Magaluf are not far away and cater very well for English families with children. "My boyfriend and I arrived in the evening, tired from the flight. We discovered that our room was double booked and the hotel staff were not overly apologetic about the mishap. They explained they always book the rooms to people than they can cope with! I could not believe they actually intentionally overbook in hotels! We were put in the worst hotel ever, Hotel Bali, for the night and returned the next day. The taxi and room was paid for. Thank goodness! Currently, we were down to have a studio room but to our surprise we had a sea view apartment when we opened the curtains! The room was good and so was the bathroom. Apart from the cleaners not changing our sheets which were covered in sand grains by the end of the holiday. Having all this mishap, our stay after was brilliant, apart from my boyfriend getting stung by a jellyfish and a mix up with the market days. We were glad we weren't half board because the food wasn't top notch for a 4 star hotel. The cove was brilliantly, definitely take a snorkel! Definitely get up for the sunset at about 7.00am at that time in September. It was really lovely, got some great photos of the view. It was a shame that we didn't have our own beach, but the beach round the corner was adequate for us. And if you walk down the road there are more beaches which were gorgeous. The restaurants were great. We would highly recommend the Terrace restaurant. The food was gorgeous for such a good price. Especially the mallorcan style shoulder of lamb. Exquisite! The bus stop was great being outside the hotel and recommend going to Soller and Inca for the market days. Also, going into Palma numerous times to see the castle and cathedral. Beautiful. Apart from having a few problems this was a great first couple's holiday. If you want a livelier holiday, go to Magaluf! "

"AVOID THIS HOTEL LIKE THE PLAGUE!! That's the advice I would have liked to read before making a booking here! Overbooking specialists - we were just part of a chain of guests that arrived to find that the accommodation they had paid for was not yet available and the reception tried to fob us off with a crappy room in an old annex building across the street! All the negative comments that I have read since returning are all true, believe me. I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel - the service is nowhere near 4* .... in fact the whole place needs a thorough refurbishment, it's rather scummy and run-down. I've never been so disappointed by a hotel in my life, especially one that claims to be 4* I only give a rating of 1 because 0 is not possible! "

"Must be one of the best holidays! Firstly, thereâs beautiful scenery - to the left of the entrance thereâs a fantastic sea view. Pretty much a great location because of the scenery and its close to quite a few restaurants and shops. I was also impressed with the building and the facilities they have there - indoor and outside swimming pool, bars, games rooms, sauna etc. Our room was a great size - tiny kitchen but we ate out mostly anyway - 2 bedrooms with ensuite, big living space, and sea view balcony. Wasn't too sure about the entertainment but everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves. Loved the cocktail hour - (buy one get one free) EVERY NIGHT! Great holiday overall."

"I am just back from Mallorca and even though it is the nice place the Roc Illetas hotel is no way near a 4 start hotel. I had items stolen from in my bed room, stealing is common over there (another couple got in the same situation whilst I was there). Unfortunately I won't recommend this place at all. The direction is also not very competent on different level (room booking, serving, security. Otherwise the island is very nice and I would recommend this destination, but to be fully relaxed do not go to Roc Illetas! "
