"Being aged 14, having a younger brother and two parents to escort me, there is no better holiday destination in mallorca other than the Bon Sol. Visiting for my sixth time in July 2007 was the best yet. The hotel's old fashioned interiors is what makes the hotel so special. The relaxed environment and hot weather, combined with hotel staff that remember you, is the perfect recipe for a fantasitic holiday. We have never had a bad experience with the Bon Sol. Everything is always perfect from the food to the weather. Staff are always lively and extremely helpful in every way you can think of. This is why we always come back for more!! The Bon Sol may be slighty out-dated and contain rooms that arguably need updating but the hotel requires a specific taste... and we have it! Normally, i dont like recommending things, especially hotels, but i can confirm to you now that i 100% recommend the hotel. If your looking for a relaxed environment, decent weather, and a breakfast in the morning that could feed the 5000, then the Hotel Bon Sol is for you."

"I travelled with Classic Collection holidays. I am only JUST in my forties and I can quite see why someone would want to go to this hotel in their 30s and just never come back. It is slightly old fashioned but that is part of its charm. The owners Lorraine & Martin Xamena are lovely & are very hands on, this is about to be my 7th visit. The staff have been there years and nothing at all is too much trouble. The staff recognise you from one year to the next and it is nothing to be greeted with a kiss on both cheeks like a dear friend. The beach area is just delightful with pool bar and beach restaurant providing unobtrusive service. The evening meals are very Mallorcan yet both good value and good quality. In the evening the lounge entertainment caters for a range of tastes though if loud & noisy clubs are what you are after then go into town instead. Most rooms have a sea view and are adequately appointed. Everything is comfortable rather than sumptuous. I have visited this hotel both alone and as part of a party and I have always been made welcome and looked after & return home very rested - what more could you ask for? "

"My wife and myself booked the holiday needing a well deserved rest. We were assured by our travel agent that the Bon Sol was excellent. When we arrived we were blown away. The brochure and internet certainly didn't do the hotel any justice. IT WAS SUPERB! Extremely friendly, helpful staff, immaculately well presented, food was of a very high standard with huge variety for breakfast and evening meals. Every meal was excellent during our stay. The room was fantastic with stunning sea views overlooking miles of coastline. The facilities were second to none with everything you require to help you unwind. The swimming pools were very clean and all heated. WE WILL RETURN without any hesitation and would have no problem recommending the Bon Sol to anyone looking to visit Mallorca."

We Loved It
"My wife and I just returned from wonderful 10 day holiday in Mallorca. We stayed at Bon Sol and were enchanted by the many wonderful people who served us in every way possible to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. We especially liked the quiet setting and small clean beach. We chose to stay on the beach side and not across the street at other part of the hotel. The beach side made our visit more comfortable as we enjoyed the many amenities at the beach; including the picturesque restaurant overlookin the beach where we had most of our meals. It was an easy walk from our room and it was less formal. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to be near Palma and yet be in a quiet location on lovely small beach property."

"we have just returned from our week holiday. the staff are fabulous with the exception of tony on reception who was obviously miffed that we complained about our room and turned quite brusque. the food was fabulous the communal facilities were great. numerous pools and gorgeous gardens. the hotel is child friendly and all things are oriented to helping parents but the rooms we experienced were smoking and the bar smells smoky and boozy as do some of the hotel corridors. Worse still some of the rooms smell so strongly of smoke that your hair and clothes do also. The rooms curtains and bed throws are pungently smoky. The hotel places ashtrays everywhere and seem to encourage smokers in all areas. If you are a smoker you may be fine, but read on we were a large group and spent time in 6 different rooms. Only 2 were a good 3 star(Not 4 star as they should be) ie good curtains, lovely views, odour less, fair bathroom. the other rooms were so bad that we quite frankly couldnt wait to get home. One smelt so strongly of smoke as mentioned above; another 2 were extremely dark and not 4 star, the furniture old fashioned and bathrooms in need of updating. There was a whole floor of rooms that had terrible damp problems with the smell of musty damp so strong that it kept one awake! The staff did try to help by changing rooms for us but sadly the hotel simply dosnt come up to scratch on the room front. This would probably be acceptable if one was paying 2 star prices. but the hotel is expensive. the rooms are very hit and miss. probably the thing to do is what many of the people who return do. when booking request the room that you have enjoyed previously. if this is unavailable, i would say dont take a chance. I feel bad writing about this experience because the owner of the hotel has his heart in the right place and this is to be commended, but if you have a precious week of holiday and your standard of room is important to you, book elsewhere, because it isnt to them."

Palma the new Barcelona?
"We have just finished a week at the Bon Sol based largely on the reviews in Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. This traditional Majorcan furnished hotel has at first a Disney feel as you walk from reception to one of the main building bedrooms (see the website). The dark interior and the suits of armour do make you start to whistle m.i.c...k.e.y...m.o.u.s.e. But once you see more of the hotel it does all fall into place. We had two rooms, one with twin beds of 3 foot wide size(220) and the other with two larger singles pushed together as a very large double of about 7 foot wide. One was carpeted and the other (225) was tiled. The twin was bigger but itâs view over the pool was above the conservatory that was used for the breakfast. 225 was looking over the pool with a view of the sea. Both rooms were traditional, comfortable and very clean. It has TV with a good range of channels in various languages. You get yellow towels for the pool/ beach, slippers and dressing gowns. The towels were changed daily. There is an interesting way to get about the hotels facilities. To get to the beach and most of the facilities including the lower restaurant you have two lifts from reception. The first one takes you down two floors to a tunnel that goes under the road in front of the main building (note the chapel). You then take another lift from level 2 to level 7 for the beach and restaurant or to some of the other facilities on other floors including more bedrooms. You come out at level 7 into a long cold tunnel that brings you to a few steps down to one of the pools (sea water) and the bar. There are more steps to the beach and sun bathing areas (there is a lift). I didnât work out if you could bypass the steps to that pool, although there was a path going right. I mention this as you may have to check if you have difficulties getting up and down steps. There are lots of places to sunbath although the tradition of putting out towels to sun themselves for most of the day is still alive even in a more up market hotel. It seems that a book is now the thing to claim your bed, although most of the time we found very good spots to both sun ourselves and keep in the shade. The food. Most people are on half board which you can take as an evening meal or lunch. The restaurant in the main building is grand and is only used for evening dinner. The four course meals are varied and generally well executed although they will not win any awards if you are a major foody. They are not buffet style, which is great. The restaurant by the water needs to be booked as al fresco dinning is popular. The menu is slightly more basic in that it revolves around a soup, buffet salad bar and a grilled main. You can book up a day before and generally was full each evening. Wines are well priced for Spain but not extensive. Breakfast in both the water side restaurant and the main building is well done with a large selection and in a nice setting. The staff needs a special mention. They are all very friendly and do make the experience that little bit better. The owner lives on the 5th floor with his mother on the 4th floor. Iâm sure that this makes a difference. He comes around the restaurant in the evening checking that you are enjoying his hotel. The hotel has an international clientele (German, Russian, American and Spanish) but the majority appear to be British. There were a good number of children of all ages. But I can imagine that away from the school holidays that it may take on an over 45âs type hotel. Majorca is a lovely island and Palma a great city. The hotel is well located for taking in both and the nice south west area of the island. Make sure you visit Bellver castle. Note: we had a look at three other rooms in the garden area (500-700). The suites and junior suites are bigger versions of the normal rooms but you get the sea noise and some have sea views through the trees if you are lucky."

Bon Sol Experiance
"Having just returned from the Bon Sol.I must point out the hotel is in a hilly residential area and anyone doing there research before hand would realise this is not suitable for people looking for a holiday with shops and promenades. So please stop moaning about this.If you went to Magaluff would you complain it was to noisy. Most of the visitors we spoke to had been going there many years running - that really says it all. Most of the staff have worked there for many years too. The choice of dinning was excellent with either alfresco at the beach side casual wear and shorts accepted or more formal dinning in the main building. As for the age group the hotel caters for the more sophisticated clients..Granted at times the meal did take a while but as we were on holiday an in no rush to go anywhere this did not upset us.Our only dislike was guests reserving sunbeds with their towels, then going out for the day!!!.I am now going to bed to catch up on my sleep.PS to get the best sunbeds get up at seven"

"We have just returned from our 6th visit to the Hotel Bon Sol. It is a superb hotel and so relaxing in the summer. Every facility is provided, lovely gardens, various pools, shady spots, and a spa and gym for the wildly energetic. The food, in our opinion, is excellent for a hotel and in the main restaurant is waiter served, a dying art these days!! There is also the option of dining in the beach restaurant, at no extra charge if you are on half board and it makes a nice change if you want a simpler meal. People are generally very friendly and the staff helpful, the owners are always around should you have a problem but that rarely occurs! This is the second time we have been in the summer, and it would be tempting to move very little, but the hotel is very handy for Palma, with excellent buses that run all day about every 10 minutes and cost 1.10 Euros. Normally we spend Christmas and New Year there which is a wonderful time to go, although the resort is very quiet at that time of year and outside of Palma, not everywhere is open. However, the atmosphere is great and you can enjoy a typical Spanish Christmas without the cooking and washing up and avoid the relatives too! JVB, Wednesbury, West Midlands"

We love it
"A 3 night break at the end of May was my girlfriend and my fourth trip to the Bon Sol in 5 years - we are both in our early 30's and this review will express our opinions over all of our visits. We absolutely love the Bon Sol. It's somewhere to go and completely shut yourself away and relax. If you enjoy lying on a sun lounger reading or listening to music, with the odd break to swim in fantastic swimming pools or the clear sea, maybe sip a cold beer or enjoy tasty food in a friendly environment then the Bon Sol is for you. The rooms and public areas are tastefully decorated and really comfortable. The service on the whole is excellent - it was disappointing when we went last year and we said as much on our comments form... so it was nice to see it back up to standard this time. Breakfast sat by the sea every morning is a treat I'll never grow tired of... as is lunch and dinner. The food, whilst not outstanding, is very good. The swimming pools are great, with the main one set under a canopy of lush palms. The sea is fantastic for swimming in. Sunbeds are plentiful but the best spots do get snapped up so be prepared to get your towell down asap. The new spa is amazing and seemingly hardly used. Had a great massage and a sauna, steam and jacuzzi all to myself. Whilst it's easy to never leave the grounds for those that like to wander, the local beach is about a 10 minute walk away and is really good. There are also a couple of really cool bars nearby, which attract a young, cosmopolitan crowd. So what of the criticisms of the clientele all being 80 years plus? Yes the Bon Sol does attract an older crowd. We've always joked about the amount of zimmers and walking sticks on show at dinner. But equally there are plenty of families and couples around, and I'd sooner share my holiday with respectable elderlies than risk being stuck with a bunch of beer-swilling, football-shirt wearing morons. I come on holiday to relax, not expressly to meet people, so for me the fact that there are a lot of older people about is irrelevant. If you're young and looking for nightlife then the Bon Sol is not the place for you. If you're looking for somewhere with a touch of class to kick back and chill out then you can't go wrong. We'll be back at some time soon. No doubt about that."

"This Hotel is very traditional and a little old fashioned but this is what makes it so endearing, no noisy rowdy entertainments all day, just a beautiful little private beach, a heated pool, quiet places to read or sunbathe. Our young children were looked after by the lovely tem of nannies, playing mini golf/giant chess or games in the little playroom, the food was superb, especially the lovely beach restaurant with guitar music - our room was dated but soooo comfortable - proper sprung mattress, comfy armchairs, complimentary slippers and robe, kettle, etc. and BBC channels!!! The staff have been there forever and are wonderful, especially Eugene, bless him, he insisted on squeezing my oranges into juice for me at breakfast!!! We have recommended to everyone who wants a quiet, relaxing, good quality holiday (not cheap but you get what you pay for!!!) "

"The ONLY reason the Bon Sol is not 5* is because it does not open all year round and does not have an indoor pool. It is set on three levels with its own small beach set in a secluded cove.It has three beautiful pools. The restaurants are excellent with an good variety on the menu every day.The staff cannot do enough for you and the owners visit the hotel every week to chat with the guests. The rooms, reception areas, lounges and bars are top class. Entertainment every night is very good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone."

Great time at the Bon Sol again
"After going for a long weekend last year we decided to go for a one week holiday during the school holidays with our two children aged 5 and 12. It is a fantastic place, nothing like anything we've ever stayed in in Spain (and we've stayed in Spain several times). We love the traditional medieval style of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. My son particularly liked Paco who made a fuss of him and the other children every day. The food is wonderful especially the beach restaurant with the lovely views. There is plenty for the children to do and although the restaurant is formal they cater for the children and told us they would cook whatever the children wanted. We will definitely return again and again."
