A basic hotel, with very friendly staff.
"A basic hotel, no air con' and not suitable for disabled people or people who donât like walking up lots of stairs, which might be awkward for children too. A decent size balcony. The food selection was very good, as it kept changing frequently. The staff were very friendly towards our son. The hotel is exactly 5 minutes (i timed it) to the sea and beach. The pool area was ok, decent sized childrenâs pool, but had to go down some steps to get to it. The hotel was about 50/50 British/ German as far as i could tell. Overall i liked the hotel, the staff were excellent. "

VERY BASIC HOTEL WHICH IS FALLING APART
"I have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel (I just about managed to cope). Good points are the drink selection is quite good, hotel is right next to the beach. The hotel is also very clean. Hotel is more like a hostel, I don't understand the 3 star. The rooms had actual door keys and not cards, a bit like Victorian times! I am very shocked to see that rooms had no TV, Fridge or hairdryers (these are basics that even hostels have). Rooms had no air con just an overhead fan which meant that the room was very hot The balcony door broke on arrival. The highchairs in the dining room also had no straps so very unsafe for a baby, the chair arm broke too (on our last day we discovered that they had bought new ones- they must have felt ashamed of the old ones) Food very bland and boring. It was mostly cold, with a small selection. Had to use the microwave to heat up food which was a put off! No entertainment what so ever, not even music via a radio. Not a suitable hotel for young children or disabled people as they are many stairs to use to access the pool area and bar area. Never again!"

"We are 2 couples in our mid 50's just returned from the Amazonas Hotel, we would not have classed it as 3 star, may be a 2 star, it was very outdated, but clean and basic. The food was awful and we had to go out and eat a few times as there was nothing any of us liked at all. It was full of young 18 to 30 Germans who drank from 10 in the morning until 6am the next moring, but were amazingly well behaved, there were only 2 more English people there and they left after 2 days. The entertainment was just about nil, there was one man running the supposed entertainment team, what there was, was rubbish and all in German, we did ask if he could speak in English and we were told the entertainment was for Germans. The staff were very good, overworked but very pleasant and helpful. We found Arenal to be mostly a German tourist resort and certainly we will not be returning and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone English."
